I applied a veneer strip much like the first one you showed to an old metal door. Would it be possible to paint it without worrying about bubbling or peeling? Thanks in advance!

What kind of backer was on the veneer?

I have been using PVA glue with a hot iron to glue my veneer to the substrate. It seems to work well, except I found when I used an acrylic urethane finish, the veneer would bubble. Is the finish reacting with the glue and causing it to lift off the substrate?

Is it only failing with the acrylic finish?

I want to apply raw wood veneer to plywood is this common??

It is very common. just make sure to use the correct glue. I don't really have any videos on that since we only deal with paper backed veneer.

As best as can tell. I ironed the veneer down and it laid down very well - very smooth.....until I applied the acrylic urethane. It began coming up within 5 or 10 minutes of the application. On previous projects I used lacquer and it didn't lift the veneer.

Our best bet would be your glue line. If you have a scrap, test it with that.

I'm unclear what you mean by the "glue line". Could you elaborate?

By glue line, we mean either too much or too little glue. An uneven or "spongy" glue line can do bad things too veneer.
