When I was 10 yesrs old our family was in desperate situation. 6 kids in family. We received food for 9 months. Delivered to us every 2 weeks. We did what wirk we could. Worked on a pear orchard, tomato farm and on the canary. There was never one negative word said to us.
My family was helped by this program. It is not a handout. It is a program to get you back on your feet. But for the record, the food is better than what you can buy in a store.
Something that they don't really go into detail is that if you start working for one of their Deseret Industry stores is that they fund education. Couple years after my divorce I found myself working for fast food and I wanted to get out so I went applied to work at DI and they funded me to get my CNA and I am proud to say but I have a fabulous job and I could not have done it without them and now I'm looking to get back into school to be a medical assistant thereby showing that I want to be prosperous and able to support myself without government welfare.

This is Propaganda. What they will NOT tell you is that these goods are for Mormons ONLY. Also you have to be a member of the LDS Church in "Good Standing" - i.e. a regular Tithes payer, and attender of LDS Church Services. Try getting help if you are a Catholic or a Baptist. The Mormons believe that all other non-LDS Christians and their Churches are Apostate and of the Devil. They will not tell you that in a feel good propaganda piece like this...
You're very ignorant about this. For one thing, if the LDS Church is providing for its own members that means they're not on welfare or using food stamps. Secondly, there have been times where victims of natural disasters have been afforded the opportunity to obtain food from the Bishop's Storehouses regardless of their religious or non-religious affiliation. Finally, why are you so negative about a church that helps its own members? What's stopping other churches from doing the same thing??
@@mikemanners1069 Sorry you seem to have a specific negative experience in mind. Bishops and individuals in the church are not perfect individuals, nor is anyone who may be a recipient of help. The actual application of resources can and does vary, bishop by bishop and at any given time, as, less general oversight at the leadership level above bishops, each bishop is permitted personal discretion and acts in his conscience and perception of divine direction for each case and situation. Each bishop is an individual with varying personality, experience and views, and hence, judgment. I don't know how commonly people not from the church ask help from it, but it is true that the priority is to care for our own and the numbers should naturally reflect this. With those who are not in good standing and not paying tithes, at a bishop's discretion, if he sees that more than just some temporary financial thing outside someone's control is out of order in the person's life, yes, he could call the church member to some degree of repentance. If someone is humble and honest about their baptism promises to God, this shouldn't actually be a problem, rather a welcome opportunity to repent. For someone feeling proud or entitled, I see how it could be a barrier. But it is not a universal, general policy not to help a member who hasn't been faithful. I speak from the position of having been under 20 different bishops in 4 different states in almost 40 years baptized in the church, and having personally received assistance under about 4 of those bishops. One of those times, I was receiving help while I was not in good standing and not a full tithe payer.
@@tytanus6624 I'm not sure who told you this. We've helped people before and expected nothing in return from them. In some cases we've helped the same people more than once, especially during the peak of covid.
Merging Ty Tanus' and Iowa Guy's comments, the precise application can and does vary from one bishop to another and at one time or another, as each bishop is an individual with varying personality, experience and views, and hence, judgment. There are standard general guidelines and oversight at the leadership level above bishops (stake, akin to a Catholic diocese). A bishop has the discretion to ask or direct recipients to do or contribute certain things--such as possibly developing and reviewing personal or family budgets, assisting with some service or volunteer work, or being directed to seek and utilize employment resources. But as mentioned, it is not uncommon that nothing is asked at all, especially when the assistance is only one or a few months in duration. And of course, it would make a difference whether an old, disabled widow, a family with children or a young, capable individual, etc., is being helped, as to anything that might be asked. But anything asked is not viewed as payment or repayment. In some areas, certain social services such as personal, marriage or family counseling are also available, as are addiction recovery help. There are measures to protect from abuse of the system and typically, each bishop can only extend so much assistance at one given time (in reality, the assistance available is limited by available resources donated and produced, so general budgeting/limiting resources systemwide is necessary, though each locale does not need full balance every given month). I appreciated the insight one bishop shared in the video the humility to realize that it could easily be himself in one of the recipient's situations. At least all that I have seen or experienced in the Church's welfare system, is positive, humane, nonjudgmental encouragement of and assistance for people to get past hurdles and rough spots.
I'm a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. just like they said in the video member or not if you are in need don't be afraid to call your local meeting house and speak with the bishop of that meeting house they will help you in any way they can and they do.

We have seen this program bring joy to so many we cannot count them, including our own family when we lived in Houston, and suffered serious unemployment in a depressed economy. Practical help came from people who understand that each person needs to feel they have done their part, as much as they can, so that self-respect is preserved, and the person leaves with all that meets their physical needs as well as giving them a spiritual uplift . It is truly a miracle to behold, and every Mormon leader takes responsibility for ALL the people who live within his jurisdiction, no matter what their religion, or IF they have any religion at all. If you want to see God's plan carried out in a most refreshing way, look into this. And if you ever do donate, you can be assured that EVERY penny will go to the needy, because in addition to giving a significant amount out of their monthly salaries ALL of their lives, they give of their time in a significant, giving up two years of their lives, even when old and retired. On those missions, they may be the ones distributing the donations to the needy, so your donations are not even used to pay the people who hand them out ---it's all part of the "SERVICE" this amazing religion does in EVERY part of the world. They have time to pray and sing because often they are rolling before the disaster even strikes. In fact, if they didn't they might outpace the problem.
Government leaders, dignitaries, and charity CEO's from many countries (including the US) visit and see the operations at Welfare Square from time to time (President Trump did a tour in 2017). President Reagan once expressed frustration that the US government couldn't get together as great a program as "the Mormons".
Mormons low key are big on being armed, at least the Church I went to as a kid. I wouldn't doubt many of the people working there are strapped and well trained. Raiding a Mormon storehouse would be a fast way to meet God without the sermon. lol

Thank you for asking so respectfully. :) There are several dietary guidelines, known as the Word of Wisdom, that are followed by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One of the guidelines is to refrain from coffee, tea (herbal is okay, just not any made from tea leaves), any form of alcohol or tobacco. We believe that, while we may not always understand the things God asks of us, those who obey are blessed. The Word of Wisdom was given in the early 1800's before medical science really understood the harm of tobacco, caffeine, and other addictive stimulants we have been counseled to avoid. I hope this answers your question. If not, please go to LDS.org and search "Word of Wisdom" -- there are many more in-depth discussions there. :)
Di Ce I'd like to add my 2 cents and testimony to the word of wisdom. The basis of the word of wisdom (to me) is to keep our lives centered on the savior. Think of how many people can't go a day or even an hour without smoking. How some people buy Starbucks every morning. If someone cannot function without a coffee in the morning, or need to smoke daily, is their life actually 100% centered on the savior? This is just my opinion, but no. I don't think so. The word of wisdom encompasses not just dietary guidelines, but even where our attention should be. So of someone is addicted to let's say their Netflix account, and just has to have Netflix all the time and without it they don't function, is their life centered on Christ? Tbh I was beginning to become addicted to video games when I was only 14. I would sit down on Saturdays and play from sunrise to sunset without eating until dinner. And when I realized this when I turned 17, and I got serious about my faith, I decided to prove to myself that I don't need games every day to make myself function. So on my sabbath I do not play games whatsoever. But dedicate the day to studying the scriptures and helping around the house. Since taking up this self-discipline, rule. My sabbath has felt immensely more consecrated, and the spirit is stronger in my week and sabbath. Because I am more focused on the savior in my efforts, than I am focused on my high score. This is my witness and I appreciate anyone who read until the end.
A lot more impressive than the roman catholic church. I can say that in good conscience because 1 I was Catholic. 2, in the about 200 years the Catholic church was obviously formed AFTER Constantine the great, not Jesus and the apostles, the catholic church had no such grand system like this. And it very much could have because the ancient grand Israelite Joseph, son of Jacob/ Israel, pulled it off in very ancient Egypt. People are going to hate and try telling me oh wait fool the Catholic church is the biggest christian (half paganistic all due respect) church with the biggest donations. K that's great but it took well over 1500 years to do so??? Hmm.....

What leads you to say that many of the comments here are misinformed? Perhaps I haven't read far enough down the list?
This is how the government should run its welfare program.
I agree. This however is the only thing the church does where they get it right.
They used to. But the supermarkets lobbyists got the USDA Food stamp program and the rest is history
They have time to pray and sing because often they are rolling before the disaster even strikes. In fact, if they didn't they might outpace the problem.
Is there something like this in Australia, for the #homeless?
This is WHAT TRUE CHRISTIANS ARE.
I hope the Government doesn't raid them.
God bless you all.
Government leaders, dignitaries, and charity CEO's from many countries (including the US) visit and see the operations at Welfare Square from time to time (President Trump did a tour in 2017). President Reagan once expressed frustration that the US government couldn't get together as great a program as "the Mormons".
Why would the government raid them? That's just silly.
Unless you think there's something illegal going on…
I think They need major security at this place. ...
Mormons low key are big on being armed, at least the Church I went to as a kid. I wouldn't doubt many of the people working there are strapped and well trained. Raiding a Mormon storehouse would be a fast way to meet God without the sermon. lol
Wow
Indeed
❤
Is it easy to get access to these storehouse? I heard that's almost impossible to get access.
So they have a food warehouse like this in Las Vegas?
Yes look for Bishop’s Store House Las Vegas
Years ago, you had to be a member to get help. When did they change it?
How many years ago are you talking about? Because not since my time of baptism in 1984.
Looks like great system, im orthodox and European,so i don't know much about mormons. Can anyone answer are you allowed to drink coffee ? I rrad somewhere its banned for mormons
@@bonlilsam thank you , this was very good answer , explained everything I wanted to know .
What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?
I am not a good Mormon but I did volunteer at welfare square and did honey.I still don't go to church.
Hmm.....
I am a member of the Church and I wish Mitt would drop out of politics . By there fruits you shall know them he doesn’t vote or act in my opinion like a member of the Church should act.
So was this show made to give mitt Romney a popularity boost. Because I find it strange the timing to just start talking about Mormons and also Romney
Folks ---when you post these videos please respect the church's wishes to be known by the actual name of the church: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mormon was an ancient prophet. He never claimed that this was his church. It is the church of Jesus Christ.
This video was posted long before President Nelson made the formal request that media honor this. But yes, you are correct. Thank you.
I wouldn't brag about it.
so glad i'm not an america... what the hell happened to that country
I used to attend a Beachy-Amish Mennonite church and they wont helthats about it. They dont believe in helping u unless u r a Christian n money is preeminenp anyone.oh theyll helpbrebuild but
They take in much money and mind ...that's why they can.Good? Bad?
Good
For a good course it's the Lord's business and well organised taken care of.
Does the nation of islam have anything similar?
I highly doubt it
Different sects and communities do things differently, but helping the poor is one of the primary tenets of Islam also.
@@eastvandb And jews hate racism.
I truly admire all the charity work they do and I will support them in it, but it doesn't change the fact that their doctrine and beliefs are still false and that they have perverted the Gospel, not restored it.
Can you elaborate why you think their beliefs are wrong?
Google CES letter. It is freely available for download. It will explain everything. There are lots of reasons why I say this. Also find Lynn Wilder's testimony and Unveiling Grace video on RUclips. There is so much information on the internet. You must just be willing to find time to investigate. But the CES letter is a great start.
You have two options now. You can read the CES letter and get educated or you can put your fingers in your ears and yell "Lalalalalalala" and continue live in your deception.
Dirk Hoekstra You can’t say a something is bad unless you try it out.. You are just standing outside judging the inside. I’m not even a member but I know that haters will hate..take care
@@ulisolofuatalamaivao2796 Are you joking right now?? So I can't learn from and trust others? It is like saying that I should drink a well-known poison and first try it out for myself before I claim that it will kill me.
😬 low blow to the mormons at the very end.
I am a proud Moron please don't believe the negative comments smh
😂
They selling drugs too, and don't say that's not true.
St. Berdoo Name an example.
The word Mormon is a victory for Satan

where are you now mormons COVID-19
Call your Bishop, you'll find help. Remember to have food storage in the future.
Mormons are everywhere in most countries that are affected with Covid19 as you speak and ask the questions and they don't talk and boast about it..They are there taking action supplying medical etc and not to mention so much each day of help all over the world..If you need help look for a nearby bishop where you live share your need help and he will get you what you need
@@jonmuir311 Here is your answer Kratos. Thanks Jon, you beat me to it brother!
This is really a retention and proselytization agenda. I'm not necessarily against it. But as someone who grew up in the faith. I will tell you that targeting at-risk and precarious populations pays dividends in terms of conversions and baptisms. The Bishop Storehouse in my city is in the poorest part of a Latino community in my city of Los Angeles.
the hong Kong Tai p.o. bishop is an unfair person, can't solve any problems in the church!pls release his bishop job 3 yrs!
this shifty bishop called WU CHI CHEUNG!

Please seek out the stake president of that area and do inform so they can investigate with his counsellors and selecting random members for validation
Romnie is a sad excuse of a person to have been a bishop.
Beware of their stores selling "long term" foods.
Don't forget to check the dates, in the Very fine print.... Last food I bought was 2018, purchased in 2023. So they shaved at least 5 years of supposed shelf-life off. I won't be buying from them again.
if you were buying it wasn't from our church.

Here's a direct quote from the LDS Home Storage Center website.

Home storage centers help Church members AND OTHERS build a basic supply of food for their longer-term home storage needs."
@@tradersquarter Yes. But you don't buy the commodities. Someone may ask about buying and just because they didn't say anything about not buying doesn't mean you buy the commodities. I think I know enough about my organization - I have served as a Bishop three times.

Did you know that all the angels of the bible end in "el", which means, from God? Yet the Mormon angel's name does not, why?
Windy with a chance of We believe angels are simply resurrected beings and/or messengers from God. But hey this fact wouldn't probably sway a condescending religious nut.
We have the same angels as you, we simply believe in more. We believe that angels’ names are given to them after they become angels, and are different than those on earth. The angel Moroni is called simply Moroni because it is his earthly name instead of his heavenly name. In a similar manner, Christ was called Jesus on earth, but is known as Jehovah in his exalted form. Also, Moroni comes from a different language than the other angels’ names.
How about because the name 'Mormon' is from a different language on a different continent than those of the Bible
@@philipcochran1972 How about you explain that to me. God is universal and His names are eternal. Moreover, God created the angels.
@@philipcochran1972 God sends his angels with purpose. He chooses their names. The name Mormon comes from the root meaning "idiot" in any language. All languages are derived from a common denominator. So regardless of what continent it came from the fact of the word root remains.
Please pray for the truth. Don't you find it odd that Joseph Smith claimed this religion came from a different continent? Study your church history. I mean REALLY study the origins. It is very disturbing and that is why People are leaving the Mormon church. They discover that these claims are false. Nothing can be historically proved in any way. Only the true church can.
Peace!
How wonderful
Yet the homeless problem in Salt Lake City is not solved.... Hmmm, I wonder why?
Do you know anywhere that the homeless problem has been solved?
@@garyjohnson8026I sure don’t. What I do know is that is what Christ instructed us to do. If I had billions of dollars in a slush fund that gambled the stock market I’d maybe give more than 1% of that to charity. That’s all the LDS cult gives.
