- There may be other charities that are larger or more helpful, but the welfare tradition within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must be one of the world’s best. As correspondent Lucky Severson reports from Salt Lake City, the program supplies food, clothes, and all kinds of care to those in need-Mormon or not. The relief is always free, and the men and women who do the work-growers, packers, distributors, and caregivers-are all volunteers.

Lots to be admired about these folks.
I grew up picking grapes, with thousands of other members of the church, at the Church welfare farm in Fresno California. We laid them out to become raisins. We also went to the vineyard to prune it. As a kid I didn't always look forward to it, but as I got older I understood the importance of it. Great memories.
We picked onions in Texas :)
We worked the pasta plants in Utah. Other stakes had different assignments. It was fun, but it's misleading when they make it sound like they make all this stuff for anyone in need. No! It's for church members only!!! Their program is for members only.

Is A ANSWER TO 🙏
WE ALL NEED HELP
NOW/THEN THANK
YOU LORD I ❤U
The LDS Welfare system is absolutely incredible. The ability of those in need to get food, clothing, help finding a job, and even monetary aid from the Church is absolutely beautiful. It is the most humane and humanizing aid service I have ever seen. I know because I have been a beneficiary of it. I have helped others, Mormon and non-Mormon, benefit form it. It is wonderful.
They usually turn away people who are not tithe paying members.
Klarity*11 Not true actually but why bother to argue.
@@jime3281, you should bother. Why would he lie?
@Hale Hafa , good point. In any case, I have met missionaries who helped folks without any tricks up their sleeves.

Hey! I know Bishop Hopkins!
Doesn't seem to exist in the Philippines. Lockdown is harsh. Running out of food and need online income.
Does the nation of islam have anything like this?
No
I am sure the policies within the State of Utah help to facilitate such programs with the LDS church.
graysonbr Nope, completely private. Did you not actually watch the video?
The church receives no government assistance.
I wish they would send some food to the PINE RIDGE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN RESERVATION IN SOUTH DAKOTA. THEY ARE POOREST PEOPLE IN WESTERN HEMISPHERE ONLT 1% better off than Haiti. They get only $90 A month to live on.thats all.
Thats so gangsta
How so?
The welfare program only works as fair, as the person who's got the authority to help you,😢 wants too!!!
I say this, with a heavy heart!🙏
Yeah. They tend to make people feel worthless for asking for food, they could afford themselves if church wasn’t taking 10 percent of gross income to hoard. Sickens me
@@marleymae6746 That's not how it works.
@@marleymae6746 Tithes are not used for that.
tithes help members contribute to this cause and the functions of the church they are a part of.@@marleymae6746

We could not do this without volunteers ( hoarding billions lol)
Sad that some people are so biased that they make these types of comments. True followers of Jesus would not make them.
charity work is on FREE WILL not in effort to gain monetary. hoarding anything isn't bad, people out to be able to provide for themselves and save for their future.
Joseph of Egypt hoarded for 7 years... that aged well.... the same for the church.. it will age well to...
Not sure what this dude is on, but what he describes about what the 'Mormon' church does is so totally incorrect and untrue. think he really needs a lot of help, and not just with finding work or providing food to fill his belly. So sad. May our small individual offerings on fast Sunday, collectively add up to provide some needy and grateful people with sufficient to sustain them until they are back on their feet. I am grateful for what the church does to help me and those around me become self sufficient and with that ability to help myself, puts me in a better position to help others.
if you were to make reading the New Testament a daily habit you're beliefs will unravel you will realise everything the LDS Chuch has been built on is totally false temples modern day prophets , priesthood has already been fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ
Scott Anderson Christians truly can be condescending- your comment is arbitrary but why argue it to someone who won't change their mind.
@@jayhawk88z Sadly, that is not a factual statement. The only ones who believe that have no real clues as to that they actually believe. Most of what those who tell others they know what they really believe have changed their actual beliefs, distorted them or outright lies about them. Try asking actual members who know what they actually believe. Also, it would help to read the New Testament, along with the Old Testament with an open mind and actually compare scriptures with the same type and you would be surprised at the difference that would make, especially when those who spread untruths about the church take many of them out of context, etc.
yep and Christ shares the priesthood with the true church who he entrusts to carry out his mission aka the LDS church@@jayhawk88z
LDS church is a money making machine they could do considerably more then this
They use the money well though most of the time and don't take on any debt.
I've helped and been helped. If it wasn't for the church I would have been starving on the streets in the past. And they build such beautiful temples to bring peace into my life and those of my ancestors. It's a selfless work.
if it wasn't for the church it had nothing to do with Jesus ? he alone was not capable of doing that
I volunteer at a food bank iv'e honestly never met any LDS well doing
that they have two chuchs here there both located in the rich parts of city
the homless shelter stated buy a Catholic
nun soup kitchen is run buy a Presbyterian chuch .
That's minuscule LDS t church is a money making machine the only church richer is the Catholic Church .
