as someone who follows internet fashion not at all and therefore knows basically nothing about these trends, these videos are so fun, its like when your friend who goes to a different school starts spilling all the drama there to you. I dont go here, but im entertained
literally, what even are these "trends". I think you guys need to put your phones down and truly take a deep breath, feel it in your body, notice the breeze touching your skin, look around you, and remember you are alive. do what you want, be who you are, buy the things you actually want and know you will wear and enjoy. these trends are so pointless and not reflective of real life as a whole. everyone in these niche online fashion spaces seems to be so obsessed with "aesthetics" and embodying them entirely, they cannot just see outfits they really like and recreate them without going "me when i'm in my chris don peterson maldonia apple rocker chick girl era" (a lot of these fashion aesthetics are just like, one outfit. with a weirdly specific label slapped on them. instead of a whole image / look / vibe such as with cottagecore and dark academia.) they're very peculiar little creatures... there seems to be a lot of people online and in real life who have little sense of who they truly are and what they enjoy, who try to create a sense of self through the things they own, instead of the things they own being an expression of their self. in the case of this community, their clothing. i feel for them, i think they would all benefit from thinking about themselves at a deeper level, actually figuring out what they like and what they don't, who they are as a person, detached from these ultra-specific labels or the things they want to buy. upon reading your comment again i realize i went on a tangent that actually didn't have very much if at all to do with the original comment, but i spent like 15 minutes typing it out so now it's like a sunk cost comment that i have to post, otherwise i just wasted a bunch of time. i don't even remember what prompted me to start typing all this. apologizes for the paragraph.
i agree with all of these except leopard print, i think thats been around for ever and it will always be timeless. I do think that people are buying it because they think its trendy, but the right people will love it forever
last sentence is key - don’t buy leopard just because it’s trendy, if you are that’s pointless and you’ll regret it. if you LOVE leopard print and don’t care if it’s currently trending, now is your time to shine ✨ but also don’t feel pressured ditch it when it’s no longer trending
Yes, but the groups with whom its trending can vary quite a bit, especially with whatever leopard print items are currently trending. So if somebody only just finds out they might enjoy leopard print because they enjoy the mainstream-y coolness of it all, it might be quite short-lived.
god do you remember the mustache trend of 2014? When people were putting mustaches on everything? I even remember a few people getting them tattooed on their fingers 😭 permanent micro-trend forever on you index finger
Which was previously a massive 90s trend - at least here in Australia. My mum shows me pictures of her in high school and every chick has on some military jacket 😭 like it was their north face puffer uniform.
Omg true! That kind of trend comes and goes, I had a military jacket style phase in the early 2000 when I was a kid. Also at the same time a safari phase with a buckethat and beige/ green colors, cargo pants 🤔
oh how i BEGGED my mom to let me get a bomber jacket... at first she refused saying it was a symbol of violence (prob thinking about skinheads idk) but after a while she finally agreed to a pink one which i still loved to bits T-T
fr, I’ve watched a couple of these I think with similar titles but they were more about the creators personal dislikes, which was still interesting to watch but didn’t actually give tips on how to be de-influenced 😭
I also crochet, but the crochet trends concern me only because SO many people are getting fast fashion crochet items (which cannot be done with machines). I think a lot more people are learning to crochet, which is great, but a LOT MORE people are being exploited in fast fashion factories over it.
@@flowerbeebfast fashion crochet bad, fast fashion knit also bad. Even if machine made. Machines need people to operate. Workers are also exploited and die in the fast fashion knit industry. Not disagreeing on the ethics, and yes I crochet. Just a bit frustrated to see crocheter acting like fast fashion crochet is the only place where exploitation happens because no machines are involved.
@@CoeurlarmeI dont mean this to downplay your point but the inability to make crochet items with machines makes them significantly more harmful to buy from fast fashion companies. Buying anything from a fast fashion company is incredibly harmful but the increased extent to which people are exploited when buying crocheted items shouldn't be ignored. Also sorry if I worded this poorly, it wasnt meant as a criticism of you at all ☹️
what i like about your video is that you deinfluenced me into thinking "oh this might not be trendy anymore but i genuinely still like this item" :) helps me realise that even if something isn't stylish to most people it's still indeed part of my personal taste
was surprised to find out half of these things are not trendy anymore.. i guess not following any fashion influencers and opening the pinterest app once a month is good for my brain 😌 i’m healing 🧚🏻✨
i lowkey already hate adidas shoes now because literally everyone has the same pair 😭 and it sucks too because i’m still DREAMING about getting the triple platforums like the moment i saw a picture with them in maybe 2020 my brain chemistry was altered forever.. but chunky shoes look outdated now :( i’m soooo waiting for the 2010s fashion to come back to be in my tumblr grunge prime
being a knitter and existing in niche knitting circles online is so fun because when everyone was knitting bonnets last winter i knew i would see them in fast fashion stores this year
@@Aelffwynn What's wrong with it? Adidas is a German brand, that's how it's originally pronounced lol. I'm from Europe too and everyone pronounces it the same way here. Americans never adapt to the pronunciation of foreign words
@pretzelx I didn't say anything was wrong with it, I just said I was confused at first because I hadn't heard it that way before. And according to your standard, she's pronouncing "nike" wrong. It's "nai-key" according to the brand's chairman. British people also don't adapt to original pronunciations lol. But I wasn't criticizing. You were.
in australia everyone still wears those puffer jackets but with white air force ones haha. theyve been wearing it at least since i graduated high school (2018)
I was born and raised in Alaska, Carhartt was my go-to brand for winter jackets. I still have my jacket and vest that I bought in high school and I am in my 30's. Only disagreement I have for your "before you buy" leopard is a print that is on a cycle, it always comes back in.
Right ! While I myself am not a fan of leopard print, it always cycles back in every now and then! I think it depends on how it's styled and what item it on tbh
5:10 "you dont need to name it because it will turn it into a uniform, and once it becomes a uniform it will become old when you see it in any other time" this really stuck with me thank you for putting this into words!! Not every style needs a name, having your own personal style that is a mix of your entire personality and everything influencing you is the best way to go!
Speaking of finding trends that suit YOU - I've had a big green Carhartt coat for 3 winters now. Love it - it feels so "me". The "workwear" trend has been surprisingly enduring - I am hoping it becomes desperately uncool soon so I can buy it all up for cheap 😂
You make some great points. I slightly disagree about the leopard print/checkerboard situation: leopard print has always existed (at least in my wardrobe) in some way, shape or form, a classic in its own right, checkerboard not so much. However, the way it's being worn now (baggy jeans for example) will indeed become very tied to a specific point in time, much like the checkerboard print. Maybe you've convinced me after all.
I think it’s particularly the way it’s being done now that is exhausting to me, the way that it’s plastered over everything rather than tastefully done. Definitely reminds me of the checkerboard print from 2020.
@@ashleighcallaghan No, I get what you mean. Everything becomes off-putting when whe have to see it everywhere. Unrelated: In Germany, the Nike Dunk became very popular only after the Samba (although similar looking shoes, like the Spezials are definitely still around), so trendwise the UK seems to be on a different schedule ("Frazzled English Woman"? The rest of Europe doesn't know her😂). I also think most Adidas shoes look nicer (more narrow and elegant) than the Dunk, so they might go better with a variety of outfits without stealing the show. Maybe that's just my personal preference.
i have a leopard print skirt i’ve worn for years. leopard print skirts and tops are not going out of style anytime soon. the fuzzy jackets and vests and baggy jeans which are more “trendy” items will
@@izzybobizzyy Hihihi and as someone with a fuzzy leopard print jacket, I disagree on that one :) To me it calls back to cool 70s rock star fashion, i.e. Posion Ivy of The Cramps for example
@@oggyboggy8692 oh i meant vests, my mistake. there are these fuzzy cheetah print vests that i see people wear with athleta wear and they are def not going to last for much longer i agree cheetah jackets aren’t really especially “dated” because they have been popular for a long time and come up in the trend cycle again and again
this is fascinating as someone who still wears bucket hats, massive scarves, vans, checkerboard print (checkered vans even...) and has no social media aside from youtube and pinterest. also hearing you say nike like mike is absolutely sending me godbless
personally i think leapord print is timeless; it never gets old to me and every time it resurfaces i liiive for it and still live for it when it's not "trendy"
none of these rly hit for me except when you brought out the vans... even when i see people wearing them today I just cannot disconnect them from the tumblr grunge filter pics aesthetic
I didn't know a lot of these were out of trend! I personally see a lot of these items (like the pufferjacket and scarf) everyday, and i honestly love a lot of them lol (the big scarfs are so pretty and practical, they're so worth it imo)
Dude, I don't follow trends and I'm basic AF but I feel like most of these things are actually still in trends ! North Face jackets ? Everywhere. Vans ? Everywhere. Big scarfs ? Everywhere (as it should !) and leopard print was always trendy tbh so it was a very interesting video to say the least
i agree with most of what you said but i truly believe in personal style. I have owned leopard print, still wear vans sometimes and a fuzzy bucket hat but i’ve like adapted it to my style i the first place (leopard berets are my go to, short black fuzzy bucket hats 1930s style are a staple for me). I’d say : if you’re going to buy a trend, own it and make it fit your own style. don’t hop on a trend to fit it, just buy it if it actually suits your style !
Half of the supposedly out-of-trend trends u mentioned are def still trendy or at least a classic and definitely still being worn by people irl therefore are def worth it if someone likes them and shouldn't be worried about them being out of trend any time soon
I have two routes when it comes to specific items: I wear what I like (I've always worn ballet flats and all kinds of Converse even when they were loathed) or going for a not so obvious choice. I got an Adidas for the first time ever this month (I wanted a casual ''fluffy'' sneaker, mine are all barebones designs and hard af), but the three lines are so understated it doesn't even look like Adidas. It's also pale pink - I don't do white shoes and pink is a staple in my wardrobe. Or people could just engage and keep wearing it when it's not ''cool'' anymore, the most important thing is not being wasteful!
the adidas shoes are really cute and there’ll be a time when less people wear them but it won’t mean they’re ugly my staple shoes are loafer doc martens and maryjane’s i don’t care if they’re on trend or not like she mentioned dunks and air force shoes which people are still wearing and i don’t really bat an eye when they do
@@izzybobizzyy Yes when she said nike's are over I was like whaaat? I cant live without my jordans and wear dunks all the time ahahha, jordan 1 is one of my favorite sneakers ever
omg carhartt jackets and other barn coats have been a staple in my wardrobe ever since I started thrifting like 9 years ago it’s funny to think of them as a ~pinterest girly trend~ bahah but I know I’ll still be wearing them after the trend dies down :)) lovely video ash🫶
I've lived in the countryside my whole life, so I've rocked many a Carhartt jacket, overalls, etc. It's a bit odd to see them out of their usual context, but they are indeed cozy so I can't really begrudge anyone wearing them!
I totally agree, what I do think is that if something makes sense it will never feel incredibly trendy or dated once that trend passes. I for example live in a place where winter is pretty cold and above all incredibly windy, bonnets are something that just make so much sense here, because something like a bucket hat or a scarf thrown over yourself would just fly away. The same thing goes for a black puffer jacket. But I do agree that in other places they will eventually go back to being just something that makes no sense to wear once the trend passes and eventually just go to rot in your closet.
This is so funny because I haven't seen most of these new trends, but basically all of the "old" trends are the ones going strong where I live. Nike, North face, checkers, etc are all so in for my school
I think all of this is funny because I just look at something and if I want to wear it, I buy it. I don't have a style I just wear what I like. I also wasn't aware that any of these were trends am I living under a rock?? 😭😭
this is exactly why i dont buy uggs, used to think they were the ugliest things on earth and now i like them but i think it may just be because theyre trendy. So no getting them yet (cause theyre kinda imparctical), ill wait it out a couple of months to see if i still think theyre cute, then maybe a dupe?? idkk.
Save a screenshot of the ones you like and leave it alone in ur phone for a couple months, then when you rediscover it you can see if you still like it or if u r like o my what on earth :)))
depends on where u live and your comfort; i live in Toronto and wear uggs like 6-7 months out of the year cause they're so easy to slip on and keep me warm.. also they are pretty trendy cause a lot of girls i see and know wear uggs or ugg shaped boots
same thought but i bought some non-suede industrial boots from them and they were INSANELY good quality…much as i hate to admit. wouldn’t spend all that on a slip-on tho. And uggs gets destroyed so i’m too cheap to invest in something that won’t last forever. I think that’s part of the i’m-so-rich appeal.
hahaha same. 15 years ago my mom had bought them for me and i was so embarrassed going to school with them 😂 little did i know that my mom was just ahead of her time
The thing is, I love discovering new things with trends but I don't like letting them go ! Checkered print ? Still love it, gives me 70s vibes, would still rock it. Ribbons ? Still on all of my bags and jeans and everytime i braid my hair. Leopard print ? Love to wear it when I go out, with a black smokey eye makeup. Still wearing my "acne inspired wool scarf" bc its genuinely cute and pretty and i put it on everytime i go out. I have worn adidas shoes like the sambas for years. I don't care about anything going out of fashion, if I like it, trendy or not, I'm wearing it :)
I love bonnets, balaclavas etc., I'm knitting and crocheting them myself for myself and I'm not going to stop wearing them just because some stranger on the internet says so. They match my style perfectly.
i watch a lot of fashion related videos but ive kind of gotten bored of watching videos abt trends or deinfluencing bc the points get very repetitive - but i have to say this vid actually helped me see trends and deinfluencing in a different way!! u are so interesting to listen to ! id love to hear u talk more about what patterns you can notice in trends of different eras (if u have more to say)
this comment got me excited to watch this video, haha sitting with a knitting project rn (what are yall making? I'm on the sadie top - woozey by celine )
All these trends are still new where i live - carhartt, north face, lopard, checkerboard, bucket hats, bonnets, oversized scarves, smaller scarves, pumas, nikes, adidas shoes. What are you talking about?!?
I work retail and many people (especially newcomers to the country) go crazzyyyy over Northface jackets. That trend is still very much alive aha At least here in Canada (Also very shocked by the way you pronounced Adidas👀)
Balaclavas have been in for 5 years already, they are cozy and warm and a nice diy project to get into knitting or crocheting. I knitted mine in Winter 2020/21 and it is a great piece to have
1:49 I kind of disagree. The carhartt jacket, at least where I live, has been around for quite a while. I personally also really like the silhouette of the canvas (Detroit jacket?) jacket
so so glad this video came out:) i got my north face jacket 6 years ago and bc it’s so so cold where i live it’s still going strong in the winter i absolutely agree with Ash just here to say its nice when something u wore becomes trendy and then out of trend and u still wear it in ur particular style it shows character hehe⭐️🪲
THIS IS EXACTLY THE SENTIMENT OF THE VIDEO thank you so much for saying this, what i was trying to get across is ,, don’t get rid of your old stuff and replace them with new trendy things bc they all turn out the same in the end. As long as you buy what you like it’ll never get old to you, fashion comes and goes style is forever xxxxx
Tbh, I'd love another (longer 🥺) video like this. I had forgotten some of these trends but this video really put the new ones into perspective! Thank you so much ❤️
I don't remember the northface trend, and I didn't know carhartt was a trend now too. Just wear what you want! Carhartt is a nice brand and although I only wear it at work, ain't nothing wrong with wearing it. It's like a sherpa or flannel lined jacket, never really goes out of style. Unless you live in California or something it'll see use. Unless you're wearing it in conjunction with other pieces in a concerted effort to look working class I wouldn't call it poverty cosplay.
im pretty sure my dad owns a carhartt jacket and i thought i looked cool. i had no idea it was a trend 😭 ( when my dad wears it he looks like a resident evil character tho.)
as a bonnet lover let me just say they're very great for someone like me who hates wearing hats! I'm a knitter and I made two for myself last winter (when they were popular, but not quite at the level they are at now) and I wear them almost everyday. I think they're very cute, they keep me nice and warm, I get a lot of compliments on them, and they're super practical items, since you can just keep it tied around your neck and slide on and off your head, just like a hood. All that being said I don't particularly care if they're trendy or not, as I've been wearing them for a year and plan to keep wearing them. Also bonnets as a concept will never be dated in the same way the fuzzy hats, or crocheted hats will be. Of course the point of this video is to just think before buying! so this is just me adding my two cents :))
I need to defend memy beloved balaclava here. I started wearing the scarf around the head when studying in st Petersburg, Russia, but I wanted something less bulky and easier to shove into a bag. Enters the balaclava... Mine is hot pink, but you can get it in so many colours! I believe it was J crew that made a heart-shaped version. It's a scarf, a beanie and a ear warmer all combined So perfect
i don't follow trends nor fast fashion, like i literally sew my own clothes when i need something new that i can't easily thrift - but i would argue that shoe trends are a bit different because shoes DO get worn out to a degree where it can hurt your feet if you wear them past a certain point. so, if a new show is fashionable in a few years (as long as you are not buying new shoes every month and just discarding them because of trends), buying 1-2 pairs of sneakers/everyday/athletic shoes a year is fine. because people who are wearing them frequently will just naturally wear them out. of course some shoes will be a "sign of the times" later but that shouldn't be a necessarily negative thing... usually on-trend shoes have more color/size options anyway
i think really unusual looking shoes like those foam yeezy’s will 100% be out of style if they aren’t already and dated(i think they’re so ugly lol) but adidas shoes have literally been around since 1949 they are not going away anytime soon. people might wear sambas less but i don’t see them being super dated plus like you said they wear out in a few years anyway (thank you purposeful object obsolescence) plus i think compared to other branded items their brand being the two lines is pretty inconspicuous which might help it with it’s longevity
One of the best things to happen out of the trend world for me is when charity shopping changed from being “poor” to “trendy” I went in for the first time last year and not only have I managed to find my own style through it but it’s so great to be able to walk out of a shop with 3 or 4 unique items for a tenner instead of one item for £30 that I’ll eventually leave hanging in the closet. It feels like going into a pick and mix sweetie store and getting your bag of sweets 🍬 it’s fun shopping instead of serious money leaving your bank account 😂
i love this so much. it puts it all in perspective for sure. but being from NYC and seeing carhart jackets, north face buffers, and airforce 1s being a 'trend' is actually hysterical to me LOL!
I think leopard print is great, I just think it’s the quality and cut of these items that it’s put on which cheapens it. same can be said for the checker board print. they are both pasted on shapeless bags and cheap looking jeans- fast fashion quality
I feel like some of the things that are trending have been part of an alternative style for a very long time. For example the construction jackets, checkered patterns, docs. But of course people on microtrends just look to hop on from one thing to the next. Im personally just waiting for the things I like to stop being in the limelight lol
the fact that the north face coat was so trendy makes me sad because it was legitimately so warm and i loved wearing that thing through the winter! thankfully i never actually bought it and just “borrowed” it from a family member lol
I disagree with your point about leopard print because it’s a timeless clothing pattern that has trended throughout history for countless centuries, unlike checkerboard print.
Well in Serbia scarves weared like a bonnet won't be trendy for a long time because we are associating that with grandmas (my great grandmother wore it in her village and I'm one of many who have a similar background)
I agree with everything other than the leaopard print. It has been here for so long, and is prominent in so many styles and subcultures i dont think we should categorise it into just a current trend that will be a fad is some time
trends are so fascinating to me as someone who partook in high school. I have gone through so many aesthetic cycles but have ended up with black slacks, black baby tees, and a red cardigan as my daily attire. I feel like vomiting in my mouth when I think about all the clothes I've thrown away or donated over the past 5 years. So many checker-printed nightmares.
I knitted a balaclava for myself in a very deep plum red (im a true fall), it's made out of wool and can be worn as a hoodie. It's neither super tight nor loose... here functionality really overpowered the trend factor 🥰
I just wear what my husband wears and that takes care of most trends. Mossy oak, carhartt, knee length cargo shorts, and cameo, check. I'm especially lucky because we are basically the same size.
thank you so much for this video. this is from someone who lives in a country where its so hard to find these trendy clothes easily and even when i do buy them i just end up throwing away a lot of my trendy clothes because i end up hating them slowly.this helps 🤭
cheetah print will always be a counter cultural print, as it will always be associated to urban tribes minorities as punks, hiphop culture etc. But as it happened with sambas and many more pieces and fashion statements, it got capitalised and lost its essence. For me sambas and cheetah print will always be part of my wardrobe :)
I am emo so the checkered Trend has never left me. I am also brazilian, so the leopard print is not even considered a trend here, it's been strong for years
Oh.. I am getting that old???! When you said puma speedcat I was like wait those are back???!! I had those when I was a kid in pastel pink and I totally rock them I miss them🥲🥹
Exactly i used to have them back in 2002 very famous around house parties back in the day and the adidas trend its been a trend since the 80's at least for adidas fans like myself
What an adorable and inspiring video! 💕 That said, I’m not entirely on board with the parallel between balaclavas and crochet hats (especially the chessboard-patterned ones, which seem to align more with the previous argument). As a fiber artist, I’ve been working on balaclava designs since 2020/21, and I must say they’ve always been met with enthusiasm. They’re not only practical but consistently in demand over time-not just a fleeting trend. Perhaps it’s a phenomenon more tied to Italy and Northern Europe? In any case, I believe it’s crucial to focus on slow fashion, prioritizing durable, high-quality materials. Many of my clients have been using the same pieces for three years, and from the photos they share, they still look brand new. It’s proof that thoughtful design and craftsmanship always stand the test of time! 🙇🏼♀❤✨
I have been eyeing a leopard print item-while I never bought a checkerboard item, I thought and still think that it's a cool look. so at least I'm consistent.
I've always loved and wanted leopard print clothing. I think it's actually a more timeless print that comes in and out of fashion, whereas checkerboard is a little more niche and closely connected to that late '10s era.
The adidas Nike thing is so true, for me I’m so glad I waited to get my sambas only this summer, pretty certain I’ll always be into them since I waited and still wanted them hehe
Totally agree about the pumas, those vans will haunt me forever. But what the pumas and sambas have in common is the slim silhouette. That’s really the trend. The late 2010s were defined by chunky sneakers, like the platform buffalo monstrosities or nike dunks/ airforce and now it’s the low profile shoes…
people buying things because they're trending is so..... like it feels like no one has their own style anymore and its sad. f social media and what its done to fashion. this is your reminder to wear whatever tf you want!!
another sad thing is that a lot of people will probably toss these trends into the trash in the months to come. i personally try not to buy into micro trends at all- unless it’s something i’ve thought about for weeks and can justify buying (ie i’ll wear it for a long time or i’ve found it at the thrift.) however, i’m not saying it’s always bad to buy into a micro trend! and not everyone throws their old things into the trash! i always donate my stuff or give it away to friends…. but sadly we cannot control how other people will get rid of these items. i just have to remind myself personally of the environmental impact that said micro trends can have.
A lot of the things you were reminding us about still seem stylish/fun to me.. I still like myself an oversized comfy scarf (not the ones in the pic though, I hate polyester), I still wear checkered stuff, I bought "trendy" ugly dad shoes, Asics in my case, and have been wearing them for almost three years now, I knit a hood/bonnet last year and I adore it.. I think some of the trends are fun, because they give me a chance to see something and learn that it exists. And thankfully I have enough self-awareness to tell if I actually like it and will like for a while or if it's just a passing trend. Overconsumption kills style, taste and the planet.
Oh my, those Puma Speedcats! They were my first ever online buy - 20 fricking years ago! Back when they were trending for the first time. Honestly contemplated for a while buying the exact same pair again (had them in burgundy back then - of course 🥲), but oh well... Anyways, I still think they are a fantastic shoe. I also feel like VANS are just a staple at this point, not trending at all, but also still worn by many of us millenials, who just appreciate them for what they are: an inoffensive and comfortable shoe. 😅
as someone who follows internet fashion not at all and therefore knows basically nothing about these trends, these videos are so fun, its like when your friend who goes to a different school starts spilling all the drama there to you. I dont go here, but im entertained

i sm the right ppl:) very true.
Yes, but the groups with whom its trending can vary quite a bit, especially with whatever leopard print items are currently trending. So if somebody only just finds out they might enjoy leopard print because they enjoy the mainstream-y coolness of it all, it might be quite short-lived.
“No one wear vans ever” is a wild statement

Which was previously a massive 90s trend - at least here in Australia. My mum shows me pictures of her in high school and every chick has on some military jacket 😭 like it was their north face puffer uniform.
bomber jackets omgggg
Finally a deinfluencing video that makes sense. Like this is actually a good approach.
Thank you !! So pleased to be of service :D

As a crocheter, bucket hat is never not in trend. It's a classic because it's so easy yet fun to make and customizable too!
hand making things gives it so much more value imo
same thinng with balaclava and knitting i think
Also sorry if I worded this poorly, it wasnt meant as a criticism of you at all ☹️
This is an incredibly chronically online video but i think that’s probably perfect for the target audience so good job!
Only chronically online people allowed hehehe ;)
I never got a phone till 6form but I remember all these trends and the way they were hyped up then made cringe from school not online.
what i like about your video is that you deinfluenced me into thinking "oh this might not be trendy anymore but i genuinely still like this item" :) helps me realise that even if something isn't stylish to most people it's still indeed part of my personal taste
was surprised to find out half of these things are not trendy anymore.. i guess not following any fashion influencers and opening the pinterest app once a month is good for my brain 😌 i’m healing 🧚🏻✨
i lowkey already hate adidas shoes now because literally everyone has the same pair 😭 and it sucks too because i’m still DREAMING about getting the triple platforums like the moment i saw a picture with them in maybe 2020 my brain chemistry was altered forever.. but chunky shoes look outdated now :( i’m soooo waiting for the 2010s fashion to come back to be in my tumblr grunge prime
@@porsl11n buy those shoes! your style is not everybodies style so who cares what's trending, nothing cooler than having fun
Yesss
That’s such a bright idea I might start doing that too
being a knitter and existing in niche knitting circles online is so fun because when everyone was knitting bonnets last winter i knew i would see them in fast fashion stores this year
I feel like Adidas and Nike shoes are eternal. Everyone has been wearing them my whole long life.
I was confused by how she pronounced them. Is that how British people say "adidas" and "nike"??
@@Aelffwynn What's wrong with it? Adidas is a German brand, that's how it's originally pronounced lol. I'm from Europe too and everyone pronounces it the same way here. Americans never adapt to the pronunciation of foreign words
@pretzelx I didn't say anything was wrong with it, I just said I was confused at first because I hadn't heard it that way before. And according to your standard, she's pronouncing "nike" wrong. It's "nai-key" according to the brand's chairman. British people also don't adapt to original pronunciations lol. But I wasn't criticizing. You were.
I think where I live nobody is trendy, because the Vans, big scarf and Northface coats are still worn by everyone 😂
As they should ! Xxxx
The trends will probably also reach you xD
in australia everyone still wears those puffer jackets but with white air force ones haha. theyve been wearing it at least since i graduated high school (2018)
@s.u.s.a.n.a where do you guys live it's also like this in Germany
@@lulianjuliuswassbach I live in The Netherlands :)
I was born and raised in Alaska, Carhartt was my go-to brand for winter jackets. I still have my jacket and vest that I bought in high school and I am in my 30's. Only disagreement I have for your "before you buy" leopard is a print that is on a cycle, it always comes back in.
Pls u r the goddess of winter jackets ❄️❄️❄️i hope u have a lovely day xxxxx
@ Thank you! It currently doesn’t fit so I’m holding onto it for one of my kiddos. 😂
@@oggyboggy8692 oh i meant vests, my mistake. there are these fuzzy cheetah print vests that i see people wear with athleta wear and they are def not going to last for much longer
i agree cheetah jackets aren’t really especially “dated” because they have been popular for a long time and come up in the trend cycle again and again
this is fascinating as someone who still wears bucket hats, massive scarves, vans, checkerboard print (checkered vans even...) and has no social media aside from youtube and pinterest. also hearing you say nike like mike is absolutely sending me godbless
its not about trends its about you not being able to like things that are "out of style" i personally love my bucket hats
personally i think leapord print is timeless; it never gets old to me and every time it resurfaces i liiive for it and still live for it when it's not "trendy"
This queen is rockin the theodore from alvin and the chipmunks trend
Pls yes write this on my gravestone 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️
!!!! I'm sorry but vans are actually timeless what
none of these rly hit for me except when you brought out the vans... even when i see people wearing them today I just cannot disconnect them from the tumblr grunge filter pics aesthetic
I fucking love Vans and will never get over them
Tell em !!
i agree with most of what you said but i truly believe in personal style.
Caring about trends is just rich people problems. If you like sth buy it or if you have a t-shirt from 2009 and loved it, keep it
Love these deinfluencing videos, such a cool concept and a great way to use your platform to encourage slower consumption. :) Props to u Ash!
I got u hehehe xxxxxx
Love every point made in this thank you so much xxxx
the adidas shoes are really cute and there’ll be a time when less people wear them but it won’t mean they’re ugly
my staple shoes are loafer doc martens and maryjane’s i don’t care if they’re on trend or not
like she mentioned dunks and air force shoes which people are still wearing and i don’t really bat an eye when they do
i have light pink adidas gazelles myself which i love :)

omg carhartt jackets and other barn coats have been a staple in my wardrobe ever since I started thrifting like 9 years ago it’s funny to think of them as a ~pinterest girly trend~ bahah but I know I’ll still be wearing them after the trend dies down :)) lovely video ash🫶
Thank you so much :)) the best way to know if you like a trend or not is if it is already in your wardrobe!! Hope you have the best day xxxx
While the leopard print is definitely trending, I find animal prints to be timeless and classic. That may just be me bc I’m a “loud” dresser and extra
hahahahah we love a self aware qwweeeeen
@@samaraisnt i got them covered by my moms insurance

That trend is still very much alive aha
At least here in Canada
(Also very shocked by the way you pronounced Adidas👀)
Balaclavas have been in for 5 years already, they are cozy and warm and a nice diy project to get into knitting or crocheting. I knitted mine in Winter 2020/21 and it is a great piece to have
As someone from Colorado, Northface jackets have always been and will always be in style
random i LOVE the pace you talk at, i always get bored listening to slow talking youtubers 😅. and your vibes are immaculate
You’re making me blush pls i love you for this xxxxxxxx
Thank you so much ❤️
i cannot get over how wealthy your accent is
I watch too much made in Chelsea
I don't remember the northface trend, and I didn't know carhartt was a trend now too. Just wear what you want! Carhartt is a nice brand and although I only wear it at work, ain't nothing wrong with wearing it. It's like a sherpa or flannel lined jacket, never really goes out of style. Unless you live in California or something it'll see use. Unless you're wearing it in conjunction with other pieces in a concerted effort to look working class I wouldn't call it poverty cosplay.
Also Nike dunks and hi-tops will never go out of style. They're still incredibly prevalent in the streetwear scene.
im pretty sure my dad owns a carhartt jacket and i thought i looked cool. i had no idea it was a trend 😭 ( when my dad wears it he looks like a resident evil character tho.)
Pls he’s an icon xxxxx
as a bonnet lover let me just say they're very great for someone like me who hates wearing hats! Of course the point of this video is to just think before buying! so this is just me adding my two cents :))
i gotta say vans have always been in style/trend in california, theyre still everywhere here 🖤
i think u just convinced me to buy a carhart jacket😂😂 i love my northface and still wear it like everyday
hahahahahah at least you know what you like !!xxxx
I need to defend memy beloved balaclava here. I started wearing the scarf around the head when studying in st Petersburg, Russia, but I wanted something less bulky and easier to shove into a bag.
Enters the balaclava... Mine is hot pink, but you can get it in so many colours! I believe it was J crew that made a heart-shaped version. It's a scarf, a beanie and a ear warmer all combined
So perfect
Pls a heart shaped balaclava sounds genius oh my . I do like a hand knitted balaclava bc it holds sentiment :))
i don't follow trends nor fast fashion, like i literally sew my own clothes when i need something new that i can't easily thrift - but i would argue that shoe trends are a bit different because shoes DO get worn out to a degree where it can hurt your feet if you wear them past a certain point. so, if a new show is fashionable in a few years (as long as you are not buying new shoes every month and just discarding them because of trends), buying 1-2 pairs of sneakers/everyday/athletic shoes a year is fine. because people who are wearing them frequently will just naturally wear them out. of course some shoes will be a "sign of the times" later but that shouldn't be a necessarily negative thing... usually on-trend shoes have more color/size options anyway
i think really unusual looking shoes like those foam yeezy’s will 100% be out of style if they aren’t already and dated(i think they’re so ugly lol)
but adidas shoes have literally been around since 1949 they are not going away anytime soon. people might wear sambas less but i don’t see them being super dated plus like you said they wear out in a few years anyway (thank you purposeful object obsolescence)
plus i think compared to other branded items their brand being the two lines is pretty inconspicuous which might help it with it’s longevity
One of the best things to happen out of the trend world for me is when charity shopping changed from being “poor” to “trendy”
I went in for the first time last year and not only have I managed to find my own style through it but it’s so great to be able to walk out of a shop with 3 or 4 unique items for a tenner instead of one item for £30 that I’ll eventually leave hanging in the closet.
Still wearing the chunky scarf, mainly because I get cold lol. Also, it makes for a nice blanket when it's cold inside!
a tartan blanket on the sofa w tv on yes pls xxxxx
SHE’S BACK!!
Like she never left B)
I disagree with your point about leopard print because it’s a timeless clothing pattern that has trended throughout history for countless centuries, unlike checkerboard print.
Well in Serbia scarves weared like a bonnet won't be trendy for a long time because we are associating that with grandmas (my great grandmother wore it in her village and I'm one of many who have a similar background)
the original babushka
@@ashleighcallaghan haha yes, we just say baba btw, shortened from Russian :D
I agree with everything other than the leaopard print. It has been here for so long, and is prominent in so many styles and subcultures i dont think we should categorise it into just a current trend that will be a fad is some time
it is SO refreshing to hear you pronounce brand names and words in general correctly.
trends are so fascinating to me as someone who partook in high school.
LOVE this concept omg
thank you so much for this video. this is from someone who lives in a country where its so hard to find these trendy clothes easily and even when i do buy them i just end up throwing away a lot of my trendy clothes because i end up hating them slowly.this helps 🤭
such a pleasure ! have the best day xxx
cheetah print will always be a counter cultural print, as it will always be associated to urban tribes minorities as punks, hiphop culture etc. But as it happened with sambas and many more pieces and fashion statements, it got capitalised and lost its essence. For me sambas and cheetah print will always be part of my wardrobe :)
I never thought of this! An interesting point thank you for highlighting it !!:)
I am emo so the checkered Trend has never left me. I am also brazilian, so the leopard print is not even considered a trend here, it's been strong for years
The way you say Nike and Adidas fascinates me
This works! I actually think you could also say .. don’t buy that.. just wear this instead (a classic version)

Oh.. I am getting that old???! When you said puma speedcat I was like wait those are back???!! I had those when I was a kid in pastel pink and I totally rock them I miss them🥲🥹
What goes around comes around or smth like that hahaha;)
I have been eyeing a leopard print item-while I never bought a checkerboard item, I thought and still think that it's a cool look. so at least I'm consistent.
precursor to the bonnet and bucket hat is the snood and i must say i love a good snood, i still have my hot pink one from like 8 years ago😌
I REMEMBER SNOODS hahahah
I've always loved and wanted leopard print clothing. I think it's actually a more timeless print that comes in and out of fashion, whereas checkerboard is a little more niche and closely connected to that late '10s era.
i kept expecting u to drop the accent any second lol,, i think it’s the glasses that make it unconvincing
The late 2010s were defined by chunky sneakers, like the platform buffalo monstrosities or nike dunks/ airforce and now it’s the low profile shoes…
people buying things because they're trending is so..... like it feels like no one has their own style anymore and its sad. f social media and what its done to fashion. this is your reminder to wear whatever tf you want!!
yes pls this is everything xxx
This is a genius video format. Please do regularly 🙏🏼💘
going to have to think of more just for you
as long as theres athletes nikes will forever be in style, thank you very much
another sad thing is that a lot of people will probably toss these trends into the trash in the months to come. i personally try not to buy into micro trends at all- unless it’s something i’ve thought about for weeks and can justify buying (ie i’ll wear it for a long time or i’ve found it at the thrift.) however, i’m not saying it’s always bad to buy into a micro trend! and not everyone throws their old things into the trash! i always donate my stuff or give it away to friends…. but sadly we cannot control how other people will get rid of these items. i just have to remind myself personally of the environmental impact that said micro trends can have.
i've never heard of the oversized scarf trend but i live in a snowy town and my mom gave me one last year that i absolutely love
using vans as a passé to the puma speed cats really made me feel old because the vans replaced my puma speedcats which i had in highschool
currently missing class to watch u. absolutely love it.
I’m the best teacher anyway 💅
A lot of the things you were reminding us about still seem stylish/fun to me.. I still like myself an oversized comfy scarf (not the ones in the pic though, I hate polyester), I still wear checkered stuff, I bought "trendy" ugly dad shoes, Asics in my case, and have been wearing them for almost three years now, I knit a hood/bonnet last year and I adore it.. I think some of the trends are fun, because they give me a chance to see something and learn that it exists. And thankfully I have enough self-awareness to tell if I actually like it and will like for a while or if it's just a passing trend. Overconsumption kills style, taste and the planet.
this is such a good concept for a deinfluencing style video
i try really hard to stay off most socials and i didn’t realize how well i was doing it until i didn’t recognize half of the trends in this video
I've never visited this channel and I'm pleasantly surprised. You have a sweet personality
"It emulates the same vibrations." I liked that.
If i could describe vans as anything it would be inoffensive and comfortable hahahaahahxxxx
