Your emphasis on not having to finish things right away is so important in this context. I've been reading a lot for a few years now, but i used to have a bookstagram and goodreads. These sites made reading so stressful that when someone called reading a “relaxing hobby” i would get mad. I just didn't understand because the socials I was a part of turned reading into a competition. I only started books in order to finish them. It was soooo stressful. Then I took a step back, deleted all my goodreads logs and got rid of bookstagram, and put my read books, as well as my tbr into a private physical notebook & now I just enjoy reading a part of the book instead of pushing myself to finish it. Suddenly it's a great hobby to unwind to. It's good to do fun stuff for fun, not as a means to have something to share on the internet
phew! i thought it was just me. the internet makes reading seem so scary. and judges people harshly when they don’t read how they’re “supposed to”. definitely way more stressful than it should be.
I have been a lifelong reader and only get on Goodreads to see what my friends thought of a book before buying it (at the library I don’t mind risking a bad book) or for rating the books and typing up my favorite quotes. Goodreads can get very toxic tho so I understand why you mean
I am so glad I'm not the only one who felt pressure from those sites/social media. Reading became fun again when I only focused on what I wanted to read and not what goodreads for book influencers pushed me to read.
Fish are super relaxing to watch, I can’t have fish considering where I live but I like to put on a fish swimming video and fall asleep to that or have in the background.
I've turned healthy cooking into a hobby! I used to eat mostly microwaved/baked processed food due to time constraints, but health issues forced me to start cooking more. I hated it until I forced myself to learn more about the science of cooking, and experimenting with the flavors I like. I also subscribe to a CSA veggie box, so I learn how to make meals from new types of veggies. I also tried a few local cooking classes, and learned basic knife skills + preserving.
I dont know why this video made me so emotional.. everything is so fast and needs to be done and this was a great reminder to slow things down and enjoy things we used to enjoy as kids and still enjoy as adults!
Another simple and fun hobby is air dry clay! You can make little tiny things if you don’t have time for bigger projects eg a little flower and if you buy some little magnets you can glue them onto the tiny figures and then you have your own fridge magnets! There’s so many things you can make that don’t take long but if you want something that takes longer you could paint it intricately :)
Omg I needed this sooo bad. I recently graduated and got my first full-time corporate job and I did not expect to be this dang exhausted!!! The last few months I’ve been trying to find ways to ACTIVELY rest because I have mostly been resorting to endless hours of doom scrolling to turn off my brain. In the moment, it’s great and I feel like I do turn my brain off but then I feel so guilty and literally and actually sick. It’s crazy to think that even though I DREAMED of resting during the evenings and not doing homework for YEARS, I would not know how to rest when the day actually came!
That’s exactly what I feel. It has helped me to embrace rest. When I am scrolling, I say “I’m allowed to do this,” and then I scroll for way less time BUT still have fun and rest. Allowing myself means no guilt and no drain on my emotions/energy so I do it less!!
Relatable, looking back it feels like I was constantly of the brink of a breakdown for the first two years of corporate, but luckily I learned that it is just work, I'm not saving any lives here, I'm allowed to rest and put my health first. But it's learning curve for sure. 😅
I honestly deactivated my socials (except for Pinterest). If I'm dying to scroll, I can still go there. But I literally gained hours of my life back because I got rid of social media. I didn't think that I was even using it that much. My stress went down a lot after.
I would put in gluebooking to this list. Its super easy, low cost, and low effort. You just need some glue/gluestick, scissors, a magazine, and a book. You just cut up pictures and stick them in. You dont need to have any theme or anything. It's really great to just turn off your brain.
@Brenschannel I recommend the channel Relax Cut Glue if you'd like to see more. I discovered her channel a couple weeks ago. She has a very approachable method that she talks about in he big random gluebook series. And thanks for this list BTW. I don't work a 9 to 5 but I have executive disfunction and anxiety so it's hard for me to do certain hobbies sometimes. This is a great list of low effort things.
@@ohhstonee it's like a subset of collage yes. But collage is a broader term that can be applied to a lot of things. There are painted collages, fabric collage, digital collage, etc. Gluebooking is specifically about glueing in pictures (typically from a magazine, catalogue, or newspaper but other sources can be used). So it's like paper collage, but you use mainly those magazine images. Paper collage can also be done with other media, but gluebooking aims to be low cost by not using specialist papers, paints, stickers, etc.
I think journaling/scrapbooking is also a great way to spend your down time. For me, I enjoy reading, watching movies/shows, and playing games. But tbh sometimes even those are too much for my brain 😅 I think in those cases sleep would be good to just rest your mind.
Yes! Love journaling - just started an observation journal, sometimes I will glue in an interesting photo from the newspaper on the page, Yup! Bookmarks are fun to create & give away .
Playing my kalimba is my fave restful, lazy hobby right now. I can do it in bed, and I just look up the tabs for songs I like, and play very simple songs. I’m not particularly musical, I’ve never played an instrument properly, it’s quite simple and calming
Hey! I also started playing kalimba. However, i suck a reading tabs and playing simultaneously or memorizing tabs or the tab positions on Kalimba... any tips for that?
I tend to just crash and watch RUclips for hours on end, maybe falling asleep while doing so. So definitely feel like trying out several things from this list 🥰
wow those colouring books, and sudoku and word searches are exactly like pick up and play gaming handhelds. if you get interrupted you can just close it without worrying because they dont require much dedication. printing colour pages is so cheap and cool. Thank you for this. I have been super stressed with my job and just scrolling mindlessly for hours when I get home. I have a lot of hobbies but they're quite high energy or meticulous and this reminded me that anything fun (and away from social media) is better for me and my brain. I'm going to try to pick up my crochet hook again this week while watching disney movies :)
I love to knit and crochet, usually whilst listening to a podcast, or with a easy watching show (usually a sit com) in the background. So lovely to hear all these other suggestions though!
This video itself was so cosy and relaxing, I’m really glad RUclips recommended it 😊 I work as a housekeeper from 6 to 3 and I’m fairly exhausted when I get home 😟 I sometimes forget how important active rest is; having a cosy hobby lets you unwind without zoning out completely. I spend pretty much every evening hanging out at home with my pet rabbit and it’s the best. I keep him in an X-pen when I can’t supervise him (he eats carpet lol), so I mostly don’t go out in the evening except very rarely bc I don’t want him to be cooped up. I usually watch RUclips or listen to music and read, knit, crochet, or play a video game. I really look forward to evening time!
Can you do a cozy vlog just making bookmarks and taking them to the little library? I’ve always wanted to make bookmarks for my community but haven’t gotten around to it.

thanks this was so cozy. i'm in dental hygiene school monday through thursday and commute and hour and a half there each way everyday. I also work friday through sunday. I took this week to do some fun things, seeing friends and going to shows so I don't feel like all I do is school and work but even doing that was exhausting. Everything has really been taking a toll on me mentally and i need to just chill out. these were nice suggestions.
This video was so relaxing, both your soft voice but also the non-pressure approach ☺️ recently I've been so hard on myself and found myself also in a reading slump, but doom scrolling instead and I feel the need to change my evenings. I also can recommend learning a language. Hear me out. One you've always wanted to learn. Just ten minutes a day. At first it feels like an endless task but making small steps each day actually helps so much. I have two small books and follow some accounts who teach the language. I do something different each day, like watch interviews in that language, write one page of vocabulary...
I have never seen your channel before but I really loved this video! Your channel has such a calm vibe, it is like sitting back and drinking a cup of coffee with a good book. I subscribed :)
I truly appreciate this! As someone who wanted to be chronically offline (online work can be exhausting), this is a reminder for me to tap in on my childhood joys
recently i've been really trying to detach more from my phone, like a lot of people i have such a bad habit of scrolling endlessly. i was recently reminded how much i liked coloring and bought a kids coloring book from the super market a few weeks ago - it's been so nice. I always feel so lazy to read but want to keep doing it so maybe i'll finally get over myself and start listening to audiobooks hahah this video was so relaxing, thank you! instant subscribe
Great video, will definitely look for some sudoku at the 1€ store, I used to love it as a kid! Leaving the stress and troubles at work after 5pm is already so hard, I don't need my hobbies to give me more stress. 😅 I recently got all seasons of friends on dvd, because then I can be completely offline when I watch it. I also love to decorate my planner and make little collages in it. 😊
Love the video, and I think you creating and sharing your bookmarks is so wholesome! I’d love to try doing that myself as there are tons of little libraries around me.
This is definitely the best hobbies video I have ever watched. This is exactly what I need, and just really speaking the truth about what hobbies are. Thank you for this!!
5:45 also another game i recommend is called pony town! Its a really cute pixelated game and there is so many things to do- you can make custom pony avatars, build your own maps/houses and there's a main map where they have all sorts of places to go like libraries, bakeries ect it also has backround music to play as well! Its also a way to meet new people, i already have afew friends on there :) One thing though is that before you play you should research afee things at first as it can be hard to know where to go and use the mechanics, but its easy to get the hang of
I've recently learned to crochet - I can only do one stitch and I'm making a really long strip in hot pink while I have Love Is Blind on in the background. It might be a scarf or might just remain a random strip. Bliss.
Late to comment, but my fave winding down hobby is playing with dolls, physically, not role-playing. (Nothing wrong with role-playing, but for me, it's the swapping of clothes and bending of joints and stuff). Ever heard of Capsule Chix? You can swap their bodies (to a degree) as well as their clothes. I have a tackle box full of their parts and just go ham!
I love love love coloring, I use Tempera Paint Sticks. The paint glides soo smoothly and "melts" into the paper. Its legit like coloring with butter. I highly recommend
Love that you are not screen-centric and you are married! I love that, nowadays... your voice is super soothing too, perfect for a cozy video. subscribing bc we are trying as a family to get off screens MORE in the evenings and do something at least semi-productive but it's hard when you are braindead haha
I enjoy adult coloring, watching some youtube videos like hygiene shopping, polishing my toenails, word search, simple canva designs, makeup, and watching Christmas movies or romantic comedy.
Origami origami origami. It's relaxing and 100% free to learn. There are tons of tutorials online and everybody has some paper laying around. I've been making origami for 30 years and still enjoy it. If you like sudoku, you should try ken-ken. It's a bit more challenging but so rewarding. Other hobbies to try: Crocheting coasters or granny squares. Playing the kalimba Darning clothes or embroidery Making small notebooks with scrap paper and glue.
For those of you who like makeup and have a good size collection but don't want to practice on yourself and then have to put out energy to take it off. You can get mannequin faces to use after work. This concept is similar to adult coloring so I'm going to purchase the mannequin eyes soon to start this hobby.
I know this sounds random, but how is your voice so crystal clear and I don’t see a mic ANYWHERE?? I’m planning on starting my own RUclips channel and have always been curious about this.
My iPhone! It’s the green thing sticking out in my video :) I owned a $200 lav mic that I used for years when I first started my channel, but it broke recently. Now I just use my iPhone and I adjust the audio a tad bit when I edit. And it’s just as good! Made me regret spending $200 on the lav mic, lol
My main hobbies are reading and collecting. I now collect books, K-pop albums, and photocards, Funko pops, and enamel pins. The photocard collecting hobby requires the most effort of them all, but there is something very calming about cataloging and sleeving the new additions to my collection before storing and displaying them.
My hobby woudlnt probably be counted as a restful one but I am very into tabletop roleplaying games. Its a bright light in the week to look forward to and atleast for me renergises oneself when you plop into the session and start getting into character and roll the dice. Doesnt take to much brainpower as a player if you go with the flow and have your things prepared beforehand. Also depends on the system ofc dungeons and dragons require more energy than for example kids on bikes or simpler games.
Beautiful video! You're my favourite "smaller" creator and I think you're incredibly underrated. Your videos provide so much comfort and value.🌱 I'm so glad someone finally talked about how anxiety provoking adult coloring books are. I tried one some years ago and it literally took me an hour to finish one little corner of it. This is not relaxing at all... I didn’t know that there were options between the "boring" children coloring books and the overwhelming adult coloring books. Thank you for mentioning those! I will probably try that. Love all the other tips too!😊🪴

I was watching the intro and thinking "I hope she says coloring". LOL
Bren! You always make great videos! Thank you!
Thank you so much. It makes me so happy to hear that 😊
Late to comment, but my fave winding down hobby is playing with dolls, physically, not role-playing.
This was so healing thank you ❤
building little lego sets taking walks chill games reading and this year coloring has really helped me relax
Love that you are not screen-centric and you are married! I love that, nowadays... your voice is super soothing too, perfect for a cozy video. subscribing bc we are trying as a family to get off screens MORE in the evenings and do something at least semi-productive but it's hard when you are braindead haha
Thank you! ☺️
Your voice ❤ so calmng 😊
Awesome video - positive and validating!
I enjoy adult coloring, watching some youtube videos like hygiene shopping, polishing my toenails, word search, simple canva designs, makeup, and watching Christmas movies or romantic comedy.
Ur voice ❤is so relaxing. Can you do longer videos of you just talking or reading
one idea I have seen before is sticking stickers onto magnet paper :)
I like to write music to relax. I pour emotions into what I write, and I am rewarded with enhanced depth and meaning in my songs.
Omg your channel screams FALL 🍂
Thank you! ☺️
Origami origami origami. It's relaxing and 100% free to learn. There are tons of tutorials online and everybody has some paper laying around. I've been making origami for 30 years and still enjoy it.
If you like sudoku, you should try ken-ken. It's a bit more challenging but so rewarding.
Other hobbies to try:
Crocheting coasters or granny squares.
Playing the kalimba
Darning clothes or embroidery
Making small notebooks with scrap paper and glue.
For those of you who like makeup and have a good size collection but don't want to practice on yourself and then have to put out energy to take it off. You can get mannequin faces to use after work. This concept is similar to adult coloring so I'm going to purchase the mannequin eyes soon to start this hobby.
Thank you for making this video 🥺🥹
Thank you for watching. I hope it helped 🫶🏼❤️
i loved this list! another thing i enjoy is knitting because it relaxes my mind :)
I’ve always wanted to try knitting! But it looks intimidating to me 😅 I’m sure once you know how to do it, it’s super relaxing
@@Brenschannel yes it is! i only started about a month ago, so you catch on pretty quick
I like the vibes here ❤
I love that people say that stardew valley is STILL a cozy game when in fact it's a survival game lol 😂
Where did you get your stickerbook? I’ve always wanted to get one!
I got it off Etsy! The seller is MalinkyStore :)
I work 10 hours per day, I'm so tired, thanks for the video ❤
RUclips’s recommendations really popped off today
I started adult coloring some years ago and not I’m sketching and painting!
I do love your video. It is wonderful as always👍
making candle i love it too
Beautiful video! You're my favourite "smaller" creator and I think you're incredibly underrated. Your videos provide so much comfort and value.🌱
I'm so glad someone finally talked about how anxiety provoking adult coloring books are. I tried one some years ago and it literally took me an hour to finish one little corner of it. This is not relaxing at all... I didn’t know that there were options between the "boring" children coloring books and the overwhelming adult coloring books. Thank you for mentioning those! I will probably try that. Love all the other tips too!😊🪴
I’m having such a rough morning at work and reading your comment lifted my spirits. Thank you and I’m glad you enjoy my content . It means so much❤️☺️
@@Brenschannel I'm so happy I made your day a little bit better!😊💕
thank you so much for sharing 😭🫶
You’re welcome 🥹❤️ Hope you enjoyed it

I loved this video very much then.
What is the music playing in the background? Would love to know please.
