in my opinion, if an outfit looks too neat (for example, white sneakers that do not have a single crease on them, clothes that look brand new) then it lacks that personality or sauce. loved the video:)
Sauce is such a good term bc it literally has to cook. Unsauced outfits are copy + paste and less developed but sauced outfits need to be almost a summary of someone’s taste, which can’t really exist without cook time
yesssss it has to COOK - like the outfits with sauce look like they are part of the person and the outfits without sauce look so seperate from their wearers
I'm noticing that most sauceless outfits usually consist of brand new pieces that you can tell the person has gone out & bought from the same popular shops as everyone else whereas outfits with sauce are a combination of lived in pieces & have a lot more authenticity & uniqueness.
For me the sauce is happiness. you’re wearing something that makes you look good, you also love those clothes personally, you’re just happy and vibing, instead of trying to look cute or cool
man i had a roommate in my 20s. She was poor as hell as we were all. She had the best ability to make the most out of nothing. She had the sauce in her style and interior design. I loved living with her. Her creativity was invigorating. Idk how she did it. She is a true icon. We lost contact sadly over the years but last i have heard she was building stages for artists on festivals.
For me a lot of the time sauce is practicality, for example layering because it’s cold maybe with things that don’t perfectly match but keep you warm, maybe even potentially “ruining” fit by adding pieces that you need to be comfortable not to impress
thats such a good way to put it cause i often have this internal “debate” in my head about trendy vs ‘timeless’ and i really dont think there is such thing as timeless and in many cases what ppl mean by timeless is still a trend (but a more versatile/long-term or minimalistic one) or will be soon enough but authenticity (sauCE) is actually what we should strive for instead of following trends mindlessly sauce = good for ur style, good for planet
everyone's different perception is so interesting because i always thought bella (in the more recent years) was always dripping in sauce with her fits, just because they look so authentically & uniquely curated as hers while hailey bieber was an example of being well dressed but with bland saucelessness
outfits without the sauce tend to look very deliberate i think...not that all outfits aren't deliberate, but it's more in the sense of people picking out outfits specifically for instagram/tiktok/whatever like deliberately concocting a "personal style" to appeal to the masses vs just like. having clothes and wearing them LOL. u can definitely tell when someone is Wearing an Outfit vs wearing an outfit...it feels v inauthentic and calculated
The sauce for me is those who gives an impression that they are sooooo comfortable in their own skin and I can feel that through my phone screen, that why I prefer celebrity over other when they wear exactly the same outfit or using that pic as my Home Screen lol
i was literally on the subway and saw two people who both arguably had some trendy pieces (one was wearing black sweats, loafers, socks and a murakami cherry speedy whereas the other leather bomber, linen pants, leopard print wales bonner sambas) and I couldn't put my finger on why the girl in the sweats felt more "fashionable" than the sambas girl and I think this was it! the first girl had the sauce, this personal style that felt her! loved this vid and all your others!!!
u really read my mind ive been trying to put this into words for ages!!!! in the past ive found myself putting on an objectively good outfit but something just seems off whereas some people dress so authentically & i long for it... i long 4 the sauce....
Im a true believer in this. When you see fashion/ fashionable influencers they mostly don't have the sauce because they have to be constantly posting (buying/ getting new pieces); their pieces don't ever become a part of them or worn. It ends up looking too premeditated/ costume-y.
New to the channel, but i really enjoy ash. She seems to hit the mark in her videos, and does not drag her videos out for too long and does not repeat stuff she has already said, which is something I really appreciate
Omg, I am smiling so much, you are a living caricature! Your accent, pronunciation and just doing a fashion video while wearing something one step away from pyjamas, epic :) this by no means sarcasm, I love that you are confident and doing your thing x oh and I did enjoy the content of your video too, so I smashed the like button!
Personally I believe bella hadid has so much sauce. Is she really following trends, or is she the trendsetter (for example she’s the one who sold out those platform uggs 2:02 ) . Her style is very consistent with the body hugging silhouettes mixed with street wear. She pairs unusual things together and makes it work. I do think the Pinterest girlies may be sucking her sauce dry by copy and pasting her looks.
I feel like in my heart, the sauce is like wearing clothes you own. Like clothes you ownnnnnnn. Not just bought. But like own. While worn-in thrifted clothing might feel like it has the sauce, I feel like sometimes even thirfted clothing has to like meet its new owner. Ive thrfted pieces and then been like. No matter what i do... I CANT STYLE IT. The sauciest clothing items are ones that almost style themselve bc they like being on your body and you like them being on your body
Yes absolutely! Also for me my most sauciest pieces are connected to the narrative of my life because they represent me in some way and I've had experiences in them.
fundamentally, it seems that to have sauce u have to be in communion w urself and then somehow have this colour your sartorial discussion w the codes around u.
I personally would call it a filling instead of a sauce, since the sauce is something that lays on top. Sauce as defined the way you did is something that comes from within, like the chocolate filling in a donut or meat filling in an arancino . You can’t see it on the surface. It’s the energy and the authenticity that make an outfit good, not the layer that tries to hide the lack of it.
Elle Fanning is another celeb which I think has a very distinct style! She has been doing girly pastel looks for years and while she definitely fits into the coquette "aesthetic" it still feels distinctly her and not based solely in trends. Lots of yellow and pink and blue and florals.
very well put into place thoughts. I haven't quite explored this path but now I know why even through fashion trends I still seem to find it hard to apply those items on me. I believe that one's experiences and soft spots are shown in each ones style. Sauce is unique and people in sauce seem so peaceful in it.
i agree! i was thinking “wonder if she’ll mention iris as an example of someone with sauce” and was pretty shocked when she said the opposite! i love iris
i copy a cool fit off pinterest from someone with the sauce, only to find i do not have the sauce... but i think i seem to have the sauce when i wear my adam sander fits lol
Showing my millennial here but just want to point out it was Gucci Mane who popularized the term "sauce" in one of his interviews with vice. The interaction went something like: HOST: Do you have to be rich to stay fresh? GUCCI: Even when I was broke I still had sauce. If you don't got sauce, you're lost. HOST: Can you be born with sauce? GUCCI: No you can't be born with sauce! How you get born already flavored, already seasoned? I had to develop this sauce. I interpret it as a kind of natural style and confidence that develops with life experience and self-knowledge. Pretty cool concept honestly.
The best is trying to think about all your personal likes (from movies, aesthetic periods of time, music...) and make a mix and match from all your different inspiration (this is my advise hehe). And ACCESSORIZE. Don't try to match all or make any sense. If you like it then it's you.
I like your takes on fashion and trends a lot and i really like this video too, well thought out and explained and good reference pictures. Sauce takes time, what you wear needs to be well loved for an outfit to look effortless. and that usually comes with the years, a lot of my style inspo comes from older women i'm not saying everyone that's old has style but the ones that do can really teach you something.. just wearing their well loved clothes and looking comfy also clothing that's new usually just doesn't have the right flavours for a good sauce.
Gurl i love u so much. Je me fait un marathon de tes vidéos je kiffe ta vibe et ton point de vue. En plus de m'aider à devenir bilingue 😔 YOUR STUNING AND YOUR VIDÉO MUAAHHHHWWW 💋💋
I think the issue is that we are trying so hard to curate a look and vibe it's styled too perfectly almost. Its sanitized. Before it felt a bit less manufactured, when of course in the case of celebrities they are styled. But now we know for a fact that everything is a performance. That everything is for magazines, social media ect. We are buying items for a vibe/core not always because you simply like the item, and combine it with another item you like. Not to say you are supposed to, or can't envision a look for yourself. But as someone else in the comment's mentioned it's about having peices on the outfit thay dont necessarily match perfectly because its not COMPLETELY about looking good, but the practicality of it. Or because it looks good on its own and its not the end of the world if it clashes slightly. Now of course many people want to look clean and put to together always. Clothes are pressed perfectly, everything looks brand new ect. That's valid. Maybe they grew up having cloths with rips, or stains, or wrinkles and dont want that life anymore. But the average person isn't always going to look that way, especially on any given day. Style comes through especially when you aren't trying that hard. And having a little patina to your clothes can help add a little realness and texture to cloths. And i dont just mean mudwash jeans.
I never take photos of my outfits anymore cuz (for one I don’t post anything anyway and) they don’t ever look like the Pinterest or influencer looks, turns out I’m just unapologetically saucy. 😈
I think too a big part of "sauce" is functionality. A lot of the "saucey" outfits when compared to sauceless outfits (ive given up on the quotation marks) were worn purely for function- scarves over the head bc it's snowing vs scarves over the head bc it looks good, overalls and a white tee bc ur old and its simple vs overalls and a white tee bc it's "timeless", the young guys who wear workwear but don't do manual labor vs people who wear workwear because they do do manual labor.... sauce aka true personal style is largely borne at the intersection of functionality and comfort. How can I dress for what I need to do today and how can I make myself happy and confident in the process?
The most saucy outfits are usually those with a wild mix of long-owned loved expensive pieces and random cheap thrift finds. Bella Hadid’s looks are trying to imitate that quirky attitude, but are clearly way too new, polished and expensive.
You perfectly described what I’ve been thinking about fashion for quite some time, really cool video and let me tell you that your personal sauce is what makes the recipe for this dishlicious video. I’m french so idk how i stumbled upon this video but im gonna definitely subscribe
The sauce is a lived in feel, literally that’s it. It’s a perceived glimpse into the wearers true style and authentic practical dressing. Which is why new, unfamiliar clothes that the wearer doesn’t seem very comfortable in don’t look as good and why a beater jacket and a cigarette hanging out of your mouth will always have the sauce, vices notwithstanding.
i can sometimes even feel when i wear something with ~sauce~ bc i feel more confident or better with myself the whole day, and those days i wear a really nice outfit but without that efortless saucy tomato pesto sauce vibe i can f e e l it
it took me winning best dressed senior year to realize I had had "the sauce" i'd been desperately searching for thinking I never looked good. it felt pretty cool to know people who voted saw "who dresses the best in our grade?" and thought to write my name. now whenever I feel like I'm dry, got no drip, I remember "that's not what others think."
Love the video I think we really need to find each others unique sauces’ that are within us because we are getting influenced easily by brands that are not 👏even 👏it👏
So I'm aimlessly scrolling through RUclips, only to come across this video and find myself immediately enraptured by 1. Her voice 2. The simplicity of the video 3. Everything about the video Truly an enjoyable watch, I stayed all the way till the end. I love your style of video, of clothing and being.⭐...... except for the socks and flip flops combo, that is villainous
i didn’t f with the first vid i saw of yours (literally just before this) but u popped off with this one…u right. e.g i’m an avid leopard print wearer (ESPECIALLY if it’s fluffy) and i’ve always been sporty too … those 2 things are my sauce because they come naturally and effortlessly
I agree with most of what you say, except for the Bella Hadid part: to me, Bella's outfits have lots of sauce :) she's always following trends indeed, however to me her outfits look interesting, distinguishable and very individually when she's interpreting a trend
I think Zoe kravitz has the sauce but so did her parents. Personal style versus Nice on trend clothing nothing given an overarching themes and story about that person.
i think the problem with influencers and fashion girlis is the clothes look brand new, freshly pressed, not a wrinkle in sight.... like from and add! as opposed to examples of outfits you showed as "having sauce" - you can see that the clothes are worn and loved, which gives the authenticity and realness to them
great video, but most of bella hadid's off duty looks show a clear signature, and more than a little sauce. i think she suffers from being highly imitated but even then, there is a very clear bella look i see in her outfits that aren't well replicated elsewhere. yes she is often aligned w her times but its still bella in the fits even when shes masked up. i do get what ur saying tho bc there are several outfits that have been photographed that are too sanitized, but generally Princess Hadid parle sauce.
I think alot of this has to do with the pieces themselves. Trendy clothes look brand new, neat --- you've seen them before. But with saucy fits, they look more worn in, distinct, and have a more distinct design because they simply don't fit in with the modern dna of modern clothes.
Sauce = very well made clothes (usually expensive) that are well kept (ironed, clean, structured, un-frayed, etc) and worn sloppily. No sauce, cheap clothes worn like everyone else.
in my opinion, if an outfit looks too neat (for example, white sneakers that do not have a single crease on them, clothes that look brand new) then it lacks that personality or sauce. loved the video:)
Absolutely , it shows that the clothes haven’t been loved
this is so true, especially if its MEANT to look worn-out, like a leather jacket or a boot, but with with no creases. bro that just looks so notreal
Thats why I cant stabd Milan style, its too 'perfect', too luxurious and lacks soul
It also indicates someone who purchases exclusively with the trend. new trends always make the outfit new. fast fashion, mass consumerism, etc. yk
sauce is simply authenticity, voila :)
No better word to describe it , thank you
Sauce is such a good term bc it literally has to cook. Unsauced outfits are copy + paste and less developed but sauced outfits need to be almost a summary of someone’s taste, which can’t really exist without cook time
THIS IS GENIUS pls u must have a phd in English literature or AT LEAST analyses of mice and men at gcse
mmmmm this is it
yesssss it has to COOK - like the outfits with sauce look like they are part of the person and the outfits without sauce look so seperate from their wearers
@@BaileyDerby OMGG YES YOU SAID IT PERFECTLY 😭😭😭
I'm noticing that most sauceless outfits usually consist of brand new pieces that you can tell the person has gone out & bought from the same popular shops as everyone else whereas outfits with sauce are a combination of lived in pieces & have a lot more authenticity & uniqueness.
Yes yes yes authenticity and personality xxxx
For me the sauce is happiness. you’re wearing something that makes you look good, you also love those clothes personally, you’re just happy and vibing, instead of trying to look cute or cool
Ah this is so cute yes I love it xxxx

For me a lot of the time sauce is practicality, for example layering because it’s cold maybe with things that don’t perfectly match but keep you warm, maybe even potentially “ruining” fit by adding pieces that you need to be comfortable not to impress
Yes I love this idea. I often "ruin" an outfit on purpose.
I feel like for me sauce is simply your own twist and a flare of your personality and your style and what makes it uniquely you
yes I love that !!xxxx
thats such a good way to put it cause i often have this internal “debate” in my head about trendy vs ‘timeless’ and i really dont think there is such thing as timeless and in many cases what ppl mean by timeless is still a trend (but a more versatile/long-term or minimalistic one) or will be soon enough but authenticity (sauCE) is actually what we should strive for instead of following trends mindlessly
sauce = good for ur style, good for planet
Yes yes yes and yes to everything. Nothing is timeless to a population but you can have items that are timeless to you :)
i feel like rihanna is a good example of someone with sauce her outfits never feel like a costume
authenticity + well loved lived in pieces= sauce
everyone's different perception is so interesting because i always thought bella (in the more recent years) was always dripping in sauce with her fits, just because they look so authentically & uniquely curated as hers while hailey bieber was an example of being well dressed but with bland saucelessness
this!!! bella couldn't be more saucy
it's new clothes that lack sauce. clothes need to be lived in to be sauceful
They need to be loved
outfits without the sauce tend to look very deliberate i think...not that all outfits aren't deliberate, but it's more in the sense of people picking out outfits specifically for instagram/tiktok/whatever like deliberately concocting a "personal style" to appeal to the masses vs just like. having clothes and wearing them LOL. u can definitely tell when someone is Wearing an Outfit vs wearing an outfit...it feels v inauthentic and calculated
Sauce is basically just your own vision for things that you like if you weren't exposed to clothing trends online!
The sauce for me is those who gives an impression that they are sooooo comfortable in their own skin and I can feel that through my phone screen, that why I prefer celebrity over other when they wear exactly the same outfit or using that pic as my Home Screen lol
Yes !! Confidence is key is true I guess hahahah
i was literally on the subway and saw two people who both arguably had some trendy pieces (one was wearing black sweats, loafers, socks and a murakami cherry speedy whereas the other leather bomber, linen pants, leopard print wales bonner sambas) and I couldn't put my finger on why the girl in the sweats felt more "fashionable" than the sambas girl and I think this was it! the first girl had the sauce, this personal style that felt her! loved this vid and all your others!!!

Ugh eating jammy toast and watching your vids is my form of self care
ah I need some jammy toast rn gimme
fundamentally, it seems that to have sauce u have to be in communion w urself and then somehow have this colour your sartorial discussion w the codes around u.
my personal style is coquette/cottagecore inspired but i just wear what i think is cute so i've never really attached myself to trends too much lol 😭
I think thats good :)
This is the best way to be , I know u have sauce
I personally would call it a filling instead of a sauce, since the sauce is something that lays on top. Filling does not sound as good, but I totally get where you’re coming from with this

oh my goodness you put it into words!!! this makes so much sense and your reference photos nailed the point. such an interesting topic!
very well put into place thoughts. I haven't quite explored this path but now I know why even through fashion trends I still seem to find it hard to apply those items on me. When it comes to having the sauce I think Leandra Medine Cohen has definitely got it!! Her Substack the Cereal Aisle is extra savory!
Thank you now I’m seriously considering if I have the SaUCe 💀
Only saucy people are allowed to watch this channel so u must have it ;)
I like your takes on fashion and trends a lot and i really like this video too, well thought out and explained and good reference pictures. some outfits have the sauce only on pictures, in real life they usually look weird
Gurl i love u so much. Je me fait un marathon de tes vidéos je kiffe ta vibe et ton point de vue. En plus de m'aider à devenir bilingue 😔 YOUR STUNING AND YOUR VIDÉO MUAAHHHHWWW 💋💋
ugh i just adore ur thumbnails/editing style 😂
Biggest compliment anyone could ever give me thank you so much :)))))

yes!! i have been thinking about this topic ever since I watched that reel as well. glad someone is talking about it
Arguably though, Helena is much older than Bella and had time to create and develop her source style, you do need time to cultivate your style
I never take photos of my outfits anymore cuz (for one I don’t post anything anyway and) they don’t ever look like the Pinterest or influencer looks, turns out I’m just unapologetically saucy. 😈

you just changed my whole life ngl
Doing it on a daily u best believe 💅💅💅💅💅
I'm italian and never heard of sprezzatura lmao. Love your videos
The most saucy outfits are usually those with a wild mix of long-owned loved expensive pieces and random cheap thrift finds. Bella Hadid’s looks are trying to imitate that quirky attitude, but are clearly way too new, polished and expensive.
obsessed with ur accent🫵
Sammmmeee
Though I think it may be a persona she's gone with for the channel as it's different to her first video.
Either way I love listening to her
You perfectly described what I’ve been thinking about fashion for quite some time, really cool video and let me tell you that your personal sauce is what makes the recipe for this dishlicious video. I’m french so idk how i stumbled upon this video but im gonna definitely subscribe
The energy in all of Ash’s videos is just impeccable xxx
ah thank you I love you so much xxxx
The sauce is a lived in feel, literally that’s it. It’s a perceived glimpse into the wearers true style and authentic practical dressing. Which is why new, unfamiliar clothes that the wearer doesn’t seem very comfortable in don’t look as good and why a beater jacket and a cigarette hanging out of your mouth will always have the sauce, vices notwithstanding.
yay you're my new fav youtuber now :)))
I love your voice and I love the examples pls never die
Please note that celebs like Bella and Hailey likely have stylists that curate their outfits for them
i can sometimes even feel when i wear something with ~sauce~ bc i feel more confident or better with myself the whole day, and those days i wear a really nice outfit but without that efortless saucy tomato pesto sauce vibe i can f e e l it
Gonna do a no buy year and see if I simmer enough in the sauce 💃 love this video queen
LOVED THIS CODEO SO MUCH
What a. Good vid idea honestly also iris law what!!!????
Pic of that old couple was too cutw
Ash u have SAuCe AlWays
it took me winning best dressed senior year to realize I had had "the sauce" i'd been desperately searching for thinking I never looked good. it felt pretty cool to know people who voted saw "who dresses the best in our grade?" and thought to write my name. now whenever I feel like I'm dry, got no drip, I remember "that's not what others think."
I love your personality so much
You're so refreshingly right all the time.
Christmas wishlist next please! :)
U WILL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT THE NEXT VID IS !!!
Love the video I think we really need to find each others unique sauces’ that are within us because we are getting influenced easily by brands that are not 👏even 👏it👏
great video to watch while crocheting
I’m honoured
I think Turtlewithhat (Emma Fuente and Izzy Perez) have IMMACULATE sauce and personal style, they're such a stylish couple!
obsessed w ur accent
sauce is the story behind them personally the meaning they have to me
LOVE THIS VIDEO RAHH
So I'm aimlessly scrolling through RUclips, only to come across this video and find myself immediately enraptured by
1. Her voice
2. The simplicity of the video
3. Everything about the video
Truly an enjoyable watch, I stayed all the way till the end. I love your style of video, of clothing and being.⭐...... except for the socks and flip flops combo, that is villainous
i didn’t f with the first vid i saw of yours (literally just before this) but u popped off with this one…u right. e.g i’m an avid leopard print wearer (ESPECIALLY if it’s fluffy) and i’ve always been sporty too … those 2 things are my sauce because they come naturally and effortlessly
how come u always so on point
i just want to say i love listening to you :))
So true!
You make the most saucy thumbnailss🤌🤌😭😭
Hehehhehe thank you xxxxxxxx
I agree with most of what you say, except for the Bella Hadid part: to me, Bella's outfits have lots of sauce :) she's always following trends indeed, however to me her outfits look interesting, distinguishable and very individually when she's interpreting a trend
if i had people to talk to they would have had to prepare themselves for how much i would be abusing the word sprezzatura
Loving the Gusto advert right after she says spaghetti lol.
i just ate lunch but the thumbnail is making me hungry again😭😭😭
Oops hehehehh xxxxx
Spaghetti 🍝 ( pasta ❤ ) I love your energy .. 😂 just keeping it real
always xxxx
I think Zoe kravitz has the sauce but so did her parents.
Personal style versus Nice on trend clothing nothing given an overarching themes and story about that person.
For me it’s the difference between looking like you’re wearing the clothes vs the clothes wearing you.
👏 bravo!! Spot on xx
a celebrity that really has the sauce is chloe sevigny, you can see by her looks she wears what she likes
i think the problem with influencers and fashion girlis is the clothes look brand new, freshly pressed, not a wrinkle in sight.... like from and add! as opposed to examples of outfits you showed as "having sauce" - you can see that the clothes are worn and loved, which gives the authenticity and realness to them
That old man at 5:00 is low key a fashion goal for me
I dont think consistency = sauce. Human beings are multidimensional so authenticity can look like many different things on any given day.
Be careful, “sprezzatura” can become “spazzatura” (=trash) very easily
Ash I think YOU have the sauce 🥫
florence welch has the SauCE i feel
yes yes yes gives me hippie in a graveyard vibezzz
A larder full of sauce indeed ✨✨✨👌🏻👗🧢👚🥫✨🥫✨
All the sauces 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
It's not the outfit that needs to have sauce. It's gotta be you.
great video, but most of bella hadid's off duty looks show a clear signature, and more than a little sauce. i think she suffers from being highly imitated but even then, there is a very clear bella look i see in her outfits that aren't well replicated elsewhere. yes she is often aligned w her times but its still bella in the fits even when shes masked up. i do get what ur saying tho bc there are several outfits that have been photographed that are too sanitized, but generally Princess Hadid parle sauce.
She did it aging 🫵🏻👏💯❤️
