I get you, but I think the outfit blindness is part of the fun. Art, fashion, literature are all a reflection and expression of the times. Participate now! While it is normalized, before the moment is gone forever. I don’t want to KNOW BETTER. I want to double down and DIG IN! 😂
I always feel this art blindness when i'm working on a sketch for a long time and finishing it thinking it looks like a masterpiece then leaving it for a snack and coming back being shocked how awful and disproportionate it is. And this just applies to outfits too because youre like in a high
We did skirts over pants in the 80’s. Also that acrylic jewelry too. All the trends recycle over and over. If you want to be trendy just hold onto everything because it all eventually comes back around.
That's neat to learn that it's coming in and out of fashion, three times now. I remember in the early 2000s ,that was also popular. I Remember seeing all the Disney kids.I used to watch, wear pants w/ skirts, on the red carpet.I always thought it was ugly though 😅
so refreshing to hear a fashion girl talk abt this, i've been thinking it for ages myself - i fear many "trendy" ppl nowadays lack this kind of longer-term perspective and firm sense of identity with their clothes💔my partner and i call it "trend soup" when we see someone wearing 3+ trends in a single fit, lol
Ah thank u so much !! I get so scared in the beginning to post bc im so afraid of upsetting anyone eeee :’) im so glad u agree, I hope u have a lovely day xxxx
"The fact that this is so ubiquitous makes it so boring." YES thank you. I have never actually seen anyone wearing a headscarf over a hat, though. I wonder where those girls live.
yeah, probably a better word for the concept since people both insist on negative terms but also wanna avoid stuff. like "fashion victim" would imply the person is... a victim to fashion somehow, so blindness just means they're not aware of what the current good fashion is which makes more sense
one way i try to combat this is i only save pics on pinterest that inspire me to style my already existing clothes in a new way . so i’ll look for photos of things that are similar in shape , texture , color etc to what i have & save outfits with those pieces as opposed to outfits w completely new pieces - that would be just me playing into the trends . i’ve been watching for a while but realized just now i forgot to subscribe , i luv uv ur calm energy in these vids :+))
i truly believe , that clothing fabric that covers you and that we all are going to die .... so even if you wear something weird , its okey ...not to minimize fashion or style...only the stress around it
The over accessorizing and layering trends never really suited me and made me feel like I wasn’t seeing something that made so many people love them. I much more prefer to focus on colors and silhouette when I pick my outfits and that works for my going out outfits AND just everyday life for me :) I really enjoy your more opinionated videos!
Ah love this !! I’m the same as you, I don’t layer very much and I don’t accessorise at all other than rings , I tried skirt over pants once and just felt SooooOoOoooO strange , like it just wasn’t me so I ha ent done it again oops
I don’t think I’ll ever wanna b absolutely critical of old outfits even if I cringe thinking about it. I will think, it was a moment, it was a purpose, it was fun, etc.. different ppl end up liking it … it just depends. I don’t think ppl recognise how extremely common outfit blindness is. Fashion in the 2000s was despicable - some genuinely like it but if I was an adult @ the time, I would’ve believed ppl’s sense of fashion was messed up. It was the trend 2b outfit blind. As well, Ppl who don’t think about fashion critically r simply fashion blind in the sense they have no personal sense of fashion.
Most people have had outfit blindness in their life cause they are experimenting with what suits them the best? Cause i have had "Outfit Blindness" in the past and now developed my own style because of it
As a young millennial, I've felt like Gen Z have had "outfit blindness" ever since Y2K came back. Just as it looked rubbish on us when we were young, it looks rubbish on the youngins now too lol
YES OMG! I am an older Gen z and I always thought the low rise jeans or skirts were horrendous! And all those bright and unmatching colors of Y2K make me cringe so hard. Like it just isn't cute,I am sorry. The wide jeans, I can get behind, skinny jeans are still my go to NGL, but both have their shining moments. But low rise anything , needs to die! It never looks better than high rise! Even if you have a flat belly, it really just doesn't look as flattering as a high rise skirt or jeans... I will die on this hill!!!

I get really annoyed when something I genuinely like wearing becomes a microtrend 😭 I have a really colourful, sort of maximalist style since middle school and now I see pieces of clothing that I own trending eg. the shirt with ribbons in the middle and big hearts at the bottom, I had it made by a tailor and now I see every "wear this trends for summer" girl has it, like pleeeease I'm a star, I don't blindly follow trends
all of this is so true and great and i'm reminded of how i definitely feel like i am influenced by trends and i do wear things that you could say are trendy, but a lot of my friends have said that when i wear them it doesn't feel like i'm dressing for the trend, i'm just dressing like me and there happens to be some overlap. and i feel like that's where we all want to be. this sounds like im boosting my own ego now LMAO... oops
absolutely adore your content! Your view is so refreshing. It’s important we feel comfortable in our clothing but It seems like everyone on social media who’s claimed to have found their ‘own style’ look like duplicates running around. As an old lady I'll say, I've been wearing the same basics for 20+ years (shape, fit, style etc not the same pieces, mostly) and occasionally I will add something trendy, but only if it fits my personal style, or can uplift what I am wearing. Wasting your money on trends is fun in the moment, but buying things that suit you and fit well will always be best and more sustainable for your wardrobe and wallet.
12:03 You brought up the lockdown phase right after saying to ask if it’s ever been done before and then showed a bunch of pictures that just looked like a modern take on the 80’s which means yes it was done before (Plus all those outfits looked fantastic to me, essentially the one with the green top and floral skirt, but I just love 80’s fashion so I guess that’s to be expected)

you gotta see through this point of view, many people are still young in their late teens and early 20s, trying to experiment with their style and see what suits them which is okay to experiment and have fun. I’ve watched so many videos of girls aloud looking back at their old outfits from when they were in their 20s cringing at the stuff they wore

What upsets me about this video is that most of the styles you were talking about that are supposed to be unique to contemporary fashion are actually things that have been done in the past too! Like the football jerseys with the cutesy outfits, for example! To me it’s just a continuation of 2000s fashion around the time of the world cup in 2006. Same with the huge rings! I have a lot of outfit pics on my phone but I have a folder for pictures where I truly in my gut felt like myself wearing. for me theres just a gut feeling when you wear an outfit that you'll hate later. its a certain kind of discomfort and not genuine feeling. still not bad to wear and have fun in but it won't go in that folder
@@ashleighcallaghan it's a lot of fun!! when I look through my pictures I notice I skip adding the looks where I'm trying too many trends in one or ones where I physically feel awkward just looking at them
This is off topic, but i just love your accent 😔🙏 Your voice in general is very soothing, its honestly one of the reasons i love to watch your videos 🫶
I’m forty. My biggest fashion regret is having watched Trinny and Suzanna back at the… um…. the turn of the century 😂 It took me years to reclaim dressing for joy. Dressing unselfconsciously. Dressing for my spirt, not my silhouette. Dressing BADLY. I had a sort of sartorial orthorexia - I was harming myself with individually sensible rules that were, in aggregate, a trap. I was frightened of being judged. Y’all wear what that cool girl wore on Instagram and do it wrong. Overdo it. Wear things that will age badly because you are representing your generation. In ten years you look back and say “OMG why did nobody tell me.” . In 25 years you look back and feel such a flood of love for your younger self and all your peers who came along with you. Listen to this lovely you tuber and then give yourself permission to ignore the lot. Go get a puffball skirt, babe.
I try on outfits that I see on Pinterest and they look so cute in the picture, but then i try to recreate it and it just... doesn't look the same. But if i take the idea of the outfit and recreate it in my style, now it suits me and I'm happy with it. I look back on my 2020 photos and think some of the outfits were cute but not all of them were, but i was happy in the moment and that's what mattered. I lost my sense of style to tiktok in the 2020 era and i am slowly regaining it, it feels so freezing to finally just be myself.
Absolutely love the video, just wanted to point out that g*psy is a racial slur and the term you're likely looking for is likely Romani. This was a very refreshing take on modern trends/microtrends, and I love the way you go about explaining it - I'm 100% checking out more of your videos!
i love when i find out random things i do are trendy lmao started wearing skirt + pants cause i like skirts and was cold and vibed with it so much i started just doing it cause i liked how i looked lmao
Love that you are so willing to share your opinions! You are right in so many ways! I’m person so tied of cowboy boots 😒it’s too trendy bad. Thanks Ash🙏🏻
I personally like to look at 2 factors when deciding wether or not i want to hop on a trend 1) Did I like it before it was trendy? 2) Do I already have it? Obviously if you said yes to number 1, i think its totally cool to go for the trend, but make sure to do it in the way YOU envisioned it and not necessarily in its trendiest form. If you said yes to number 2 its totally cool to go for and try, but you might end up hating it later down the line, which can inform you the next time something similar is trending on wether or not to get it. If you answered no to both questions but still want to participate in the trend, wait until it goes out of style and people start hating to see if the trend genuinely changed your mind on a style. If it goes out of style and you find yourself defending it anyway it probably was right for you, but if you find yourself hesitating or agreeing with people, you likely never liked it to begin with. Remember a costume is not about what you are wearing, but how you are wearing it.
I love your videos and today I was just scrolling around online shopping (as one does) and I came across some really cool military surplus hats and I thought of you because of the video (I can't remember which one now) where you said that you loved hats with flaps. Idk if it's your vibe or not but military surplus tends to be cheap and has a ton of stuff in neutral colors and that has a practical no-frills look which seems to fit your style! Anyways, I thought it could be something cool to check out.
Just discovered you today and I already watched a ton of your videos. I immediately subscribed because you seem to be such a lovely person and I really like the way you approach the idea of trends and how you analyze them. Just a round of applause for you 👏🏻❣️
Hi !!🫶🏼once again you nailed it !!! I love your videos !!! I love that you explained blind fashion because that’s what it is ( I get it now !)🤭 just want to mention also that you’re so raw and true to your opinions that that is a quality of a great friend in you , thank you
Love this! I couldn’t agree more with you about the trendy instagramer‘s outfits and the piling on all the at the moment trendy pieces. I think those really work on instagram for instagram. I mean they’re very attention grabbing but irl they would maybe look a little weird (too trendy), not many people would even own all those pieces. Also yes to talking breaks from styling and from social media!
lovely video!Though I realized that I have been wearing the same outfits since 2019, which I don't know what to think of, bc I don't like my style most of the time. That's why I right now love trying out new trends, even when they aren't even trending anymore.
Strangely the only outfits I look back and cringe are the ones from middle school . The rest of my outfits from then on were very reflective of what I loved at the time and I still think it looks good but I wouldn’t wear it today since my style has changed slightly since then
This video made me realize how completely unplugged I am from fashion trends because I have never seen nor noticed any of the things listed here. I cannot believe that anyone is actually wearing "blokecore" out and about in the real world.
Trends are fun to try but they are more like catalogues to see what you like and what suits you instead of having to follow them. I preffer to do something out of trend. Your outfit could be the next trend 🤷♀️
Def not ignorant to say you can tell. My friends and i sniff it from a mile away. Anytime i look online or shops.. so glad im goth lmfao…. Although I had to come to terms to not listening to the goblins in the ear in my younger years to waiver from my staple colours and cuts. My wardrobe is supremely cohesive and I buy less due to it being such a concrete style / concrete in what I gravitate towards. Which I am told it is more so the corporate goth look. My outfit blindness existed in my teens and my early 20s. And it is really in my face how bad some peoples outfits look. Ill fitted in an unintentional way due to a desperation to be apart of a certain trend, people adverse to the concept of an iron. It goes on… it looks really bad. And might I be the bold one to say a majority of these resellers with a following, all look the same. And the “let me style you” / bundle outfits under a “core” aesthetic.. all look like garbage. But to each their own, more so it is jarring to me when they are my age or older and doing these really bad outfits, especially really cheap. Along with the amount of product waste that happens due to the turnover. The amount of videos I watch that are these people in those spaces that in one video go on and on about quality over quantity… and get rid of half of their closet. And then the next 5 uploads is their new hauls.. its insane. Its all an excuse to make space for more garbage they wont like a month from now, because it is more often than not these people do not have a concrete identity and hope to find themselves in these tidbits. It is like another video essay I had watched the other day. In talk of all these core aesthetics in which we live in a fast paced world with a horrid economy in which, rather than being the thing itself. Aka having the hobby that coincides with it. Like you mentioned, the football. Or they used the example of tennis core.. the horse girl aesthetic.. ballet etc so on so forth. Rather than affording to go into the hobby and having the time for it. People more so than ever are gravitating towards looking the part of the thing they wish they could do. It leaves behind an emptiness that goes unfulfilled. Or it is a short lived trend in your wardrobe rather than existing in your identity.

I love your communication style. It's intriguing and opiniated. Excellent. However, not being able to name David Beckham as the only football player you know is an area of growth I wanted to point out.. much love
u know… u knooooow….. ive noticed that in online spaces lately, to be considered “fashionable”, you have to pile on as many accessories as possible in unconventional ways. maximalist, but in a “i have a ton of cool clothing items” kind of way, not “i understand the theory behind a good outfit” (maximizing the effects of basics and statement pieces, then adding anything else that’s necessary) kind of way
Another way to "combat" this is to simply embrace it: yes, you will cringe in the near future and ask yourself "what was I thinking?" Just accept it.
Excellent point !!
i agree!
yess if you really like the look of something, not just because it's trendy, and you wanna wear it, just wear it!

@@ashleighcallaghan it's a lot of fun!! when I look through my pictures I notice I skip adding the looks where I'm trying too many trends in one or ones where I physically feel awkward just looking at them
This is off topic, but i just love your accent 😔🙏 Your voice in general is very soothing, its honestly one of the reasons i love to watch your videos 🫶
ah thank you , you are so kind , pls I hope you stay forever xxxx
I’m forty. My biggest fashion regret is having watched Trinny and Suzanna back at the… um…. the turn of the century 😂
It took me years to reclaim dressing for joy.
I lost my sense of style to tiktok in the 2020 era and i am slowly regaining it, it feels so freezing to finally just be myself.
ah yes love this !! its all a learning experience heheh xxxx
literally liked and subbed right after that little lamb intro he is very convincing
ah im so glad (he's new btw, so I think this comment will mean he gets to stay hehehe ) xxxxxx
Absolutely love the video, just wanted to point out that g*psy is a racial slur and the term you're likely looking for is likely Romani. This was a very refreshing take on modern trends/microtrends, and I love the way you go about explaining it - I'm 100% checking out more of your videos!
Ash: “You are a beautiful girl and I really hope that whatever you wear makes you happy.”
Me, a full grown man: *blushes*
Welcome home hehehe xxxxxx
i love when i find out random things i do are trendy lmao started wearing skirt + pants cause i like skirts and was cold and vibed with it so much i started just doing it cause i liked how i looked lmao
Love that you are so willing to share your opinions! You are right in so many ways! I’m person so tied of cowboy boots 😒it’s too trendy bad. Thanks Ash🙏🏻
Spot on ! Many overdone styles and trends end up looking dated. Have you done a “favourite looks” video recently? Would love to see another ❤
I must do another v v soon bc honestly they r my favs !!
I personally like to look at 2 factors when deciding wether or not i want to hop on a trend
1) Did I like it before it was trendy?
Remember a costume is not about what you are wearing, but how you are wearing it.
oh my I love this comment, this is such a great way of thinking im going to remember this next time I THINK I like something hehehe xxxx
Anyways, I thought it could be something cool to check out.
oh my pls I am now looking this up IMMEDIATELY love this idea sm xxxx
Just discovered you today and I already watched a ton of your videos. I immediately subscribed because you seem to be such a lovely person and I really like the way you approach the idea of trends and how you analyze them. Just a round of applause for you 👏🏻❣️

ash callaghan: you are a beautiful girl
me: !! 🥺🌸
I love you , thank you for being here xxx
I am a man interested in women's fashion, but after watching this video, I am a beautiful girl.
Yes !! I’m so glad u agree !! Great minds think alike hehehehhe xxxxx
Mark my words, she’ll be the next RUclips sensation fr
screenshotted this and put it in my insta stories the other day hahaha xxx
my favourite educational podcaster!! and podcast hehe
lovely video!Though I realized that I have been wearing the same outfits since 2019, which I don't know what to think of, bc I don't like my style most of the time. That's why I right now love trying out new trends, even when they aren't even trending anymore.
i LOVE your videos please never stop sharing your opinions
I think theonly important thing is putting whatever you do is need to have your personal touch on it or else it just looks notlike you
i adore you so much, these videos are so helpful♥️♥️🙏🙏
ah youre so kind thank u so much xxxxxx
this makes me think of mean girls when Cady cut holes in Regina's tank top and it became a trend 😭😭
i think u have accidentally solved overconsumption
(ily your videos, they are so lovely ❤)
i take bits of trends and add it to my style which is more permanent
You are adorable 😊 love watching your videos, love the simplicity of them! ❤️🌻☀️💛👍🏾
this was brilliant! absolutely love your content. hugs from switzerland.
ah helloooooo from across the pond !! thank you so much for being here xxxx
just love watching your videos
Loving all of this content
Ah me too Hehehee xxxx
Strangely the only outfits I look back and cringe are the ones from middle school . The rest of my outfits from then on were very reflective of what I loved at the time and I still think it looks good but I wouldn’t wear it today since my style has changed slightly since then
also i love your new little intro with the goat! very cute :D
points were made! also you are gorgeous.
No stahhpppp thank you xxxxxx
Hey Ash!
Just an out of context comment,
Dude you look so calmingly pretty
Why did i read this like a poem hahahahaah (thank you so much you’re too kindxxxx)
This video made me realize how completely unplugged I am from fashion trends because I have never seen nor noticed any of the things listed here. I cannot believe that anyone is actually wearing "blokecore" out and about in the real world.
trends are so soulless 😭
I love your sweatshirt
Trends are fun to try but they are more like catalogues to see what you like and what suits you instead of having to follow them. I preffer to do something out of trend. Your outfit could be the next trend 🤷♀️
yes love that !! BE the trend heheh
Or it is a short lived trend in your wardrobe rather than existing in your identity.
oh my I love this so much, thank you for taking the time to write to me and everyone reading :') love that you have your own opinion on the matter, I hate that everyone on the internet tiptoes around trying not to hurt anyones feelings, it makes it v boring hahahah , I agree with everything you said lol. I hope u have a lovely day xxxx

B) what can i say
I cae from alexa sunshine’s chanel and stayed bcs this chanel is so interesting
ah thank you youre so kind !! I hope u stay forever xxx
Girl we love your vids 😭😭🫶🫶
Insane to me that football jerseys are a trend now. I'm Brazilian. They're the most quintessential casual wear item ever genuinely
I love your jumper! where did you buy it?
trends are a game,, relies on context. u look back n be all ‘what the hell was that’ n then ‘oh yea. hot damn i did that’
I'm such a clown bc I'm the opposite and never touched a trend. Feels like I need to follow more trends😂
Ah no u are pure hahahahahah xxxx
this vid was so goodddd
I love your communication style. It's intriguing and opiniated. Excellent.
However, not being able to name David Beckham as the only football player you know is an area of growth I wanted to point out.. much love
i cant w the harry ptter ass glasses
You are very funny and awesome, subscribed.
u know… u knooooow….. ive noticed that in online spaces lately, to be considered “fashionable”, you have to pile on as many accessories as possible in unconventional ways. maximalist, but in a “i have a ton of cool clothing items” kind of way, not “i understand the theory behind a good outfit” (maximizing the effects of basics and statement pieces, then adding anything else that’s necessary) kind of way
