If you are good enough to make it past district championship, then regional, then national, you will see basically every school and every contender in your weight classes from all over the US. I’d compare it to chess, or maybe even golf. The people you compete with year round and then nationally, tend to be the same as you get better. Very , very small community

Steroid use is definitely cheating but it's not like they magically turn you into a super athlete. It's a combination of steroids, genetics and training. The first two things, and especially the second, play a big enough role in Jon Jones' case to offset the third. I think it's more important that he is genetically gifted (look at his family of star athletes) and got the right kind of training for mma. Steroids add to it for sure, but you gotta consider the genetics and training. He's sort of the opposite of mighty mouse, where DJ was unfortunate with the height genetics, was always clean but worked his a** off to be where he is.

Steroid use is definitely cheating but it's not like they magically turn you into a super athlete. It's a combination of steroids, genetics and training. The first two things, and especially the second, play a big enough role in Jon Jones' case to offset the third. I think it's more important that he is genetically gifted (look at his family of star athletes) and got the right kind of training for mma. Steroids add to it for sure, but you gotta consider the genetics and training.
He's sort of the opposite of mighty mouse, where DJ was unfortunate with the height genetics, was always clean but worked his a** off to be where he is.
He explained at Joe Rogans podcast he goes out a week before cause of anxiety. If he loses the fight he can blame the parting the week before.
