To upgrade or not to upgrade? That is the question, and it only becomes even more pressing with Apple products. I like to think of Cupertino as the automaker of tech, where since design is one of the most important pillars of its products, it's also the reason why it doesn't change that often. My new MacBook Pro carries a design that's five years old, and you'll see that across the board.
Where you'll see innovation is in features, which is one of the major reasons why looks can be deceiving. On one corner we have Apple's best and most changed iPhone of 2020 and on the other we have its 2021 successor. The only time when you should upgrade from last year's iPhone to this year's iPhone is going from the 6 to the 6s. That was a massive upgrade.

Exactly. I find no point in doing that. I’ve had my iPhone 8 for 4-5 years (the average iPhone user) before I finally upgraded to the 14 pro max. And I’m keeping this phone for another 5-6 years or until it stops working. So yeah
Recently upgraded to the 13 pro max from a XR and man, combining the 120 hz and OLED screen is night and day. After using the 13 PM for 5 minutes, going back to the XR to transfer my data, it was painful to use a 60 hz LCD lol. It’s well worth it.
A much needed video in my opinion and I'm a Samsung guy. Very good attention to detail pointing out the differences between these 2 smartphones from Apple. I'm a S21 ultra owner and I have great respect for both phones. A great video brother stay safe.

I noticed that the iPhone 12 Pro Max produced warmer better pictures than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Surely agree with the greater battery life on the 13.
I upgraded to the 13 Pro Max from the 8Plus and couldn’t be happier, lol. The battery life and cameras on this phone are amazing! I wouldn’t see a point in upgrading from the 12 Pro Max, however.
I have a 8plus as well and I’m torn between the pro and pro max. I hear a lot of ppl say that the pro max is very heavy and even heavier with a good case on it

@@icymayne Like I guarantee you that the regular user (which are the ones that buy it the most) will not see a big difference in everyday use! Let’s say that you can make a case for battery life, I have the 12 Pro Max, I get a day of really heavy use with maybe 12-16% battery left at 10 PM so if you get the 13 Pro Max which by his calculations is a 1- 1-1/2- 2 day battery it will not matter ‘cause MOST PEOPLE CHARGE THEIR PHONE EVERY NIGHT WHILE THEY’RE SLEEPING. The camera I didn’t see a significant difference not even at night the 12 Pro Max is still one the best ones out there, so in conclusion Unless you’re getting a really good deal on your 12 Pro Max then go ahead as for me… No way!

@@casualmetalhead9383 well for me. I did a 5 year value test. My iPhone X was worth 800$ trade in after 4 years. The Note 8, released the same year, didn’t have any trade in value after 4 years. Oldest Samsung with value is the s10 with a trade in value of 400$, and that released 2 years after. So Samsung doesn’t carry value over the long run. Android doesn’t carry after the long run. Shoot the Note 20 Ultra, last year was worth 1300, is half the value a year later.

Well I have to tell you that I had the 11 pro max and I was about to get the 12 pro max when I heard that the 13 was coming out. not surprise they put out a phone every year. But something told me to wait to see if the camera was going to be better and I am so glad I did. I am enjoying taking photos and videos for my handmade business. I want to thank you so much I have been watching for years now and you always have great videos.

My only gripes about my iPhone 13 Pro Max so far is iOS15. Its very buggy compared to my 12 Pro Max on 14.6. Maps crashes at least 3 times a day for me. Luckily, my route stays and i can just tap the app to go right back to my route. Otherwise id be using Google Maps again and i hate google maps.
As these devices are lasting longer and longer, I wish there were more comparisons between the 11 pro and 13 pro etc.
I guess the good thing about the 12 v 13 comparison is that people looking to switch from a 10 or 11 will know if it's worth paying extra for the *most* new device.
No one should ever switch from a 12 to a 13, or 5 to a 6, unless you have extra money burning a hole in your pocket!

I upgraded to the 12 pro max from an 8plus, huge difference in those phones and very happy with the 12promax , not enough improvement with the 13 to be worth the upgrade in my opinion

The biggest and most noticeable upgrade imo is the 120hz display (ProMotion). If you want the smoothest mobile display on the market, then upgrade. I upgraded from 12 Pro Max and am very pleased. Ive also been looking forward to 120hz on iPhone since 2017 when they brought it on the iPads so that had a big influence on me upgrading.

My friend got the 13 pro max and I have the 12 pro max, the smoothness of the screen is definitely noticeable

They have few differences… If U have the 12 Pro Max it really doesn’t make sense to upgrade to the 13 pro max unless you create content and always need the best specs even if they are far in performance from the last models specs

I recently upgraded from the XR to the 12 pro max and I do not regret it. It’s reasonably priced right now and my carrier (t mobile) had plenty in stock. Part of me would have liked the 13, just because it’s the newest model but again no regrets. The 12 pro max is everything I need and more. I was reluctant to upgrade and I’m extremely glad I did.

I saved tons of money by buying a second hand 12 Pro Max 256 GB Dual Sim (from a 64 GB iPhone XS Max) variant instead of a 13 Pro Max 128 GB. A larger storage capacity is more critical for me. I don't care about having the cinematic mode or a faster higher refresh rate.
I will upgrade to the iPhone 15 Ultra when the prices drop 😊

I didn't need to upgrade but wanted to for some of the updates that you mentioned. The resale value of an unlocked 12 pro max made it an affordable choice for me.

Honestly the camera is worse , i upgraded from iphone 12 pro max to iphone pro 13 (decided to go with a smaller pro because this year the camera was the same whereas last year 12 pro max had a bigger sensor)
They removed my favorite feature which is MANUAL HDR CONTROL
i get blown up skies anytime i type on a person while taking a photo because the hdr doesnt kick in automatically... and theres no option anymore to enable it manually
And the other bad thing is the zoom lenses apperture which is f2.8 whereas on iphone 11 pro max it is f2.0 on iphone 12 pro max it was f2.4 ... the night mode doesnt really help because i get shaky photos even with the new stabilization
Id say if you care about taking beautiful PHOTOS keep the 12 ...
I sold my iPhone 12 Pro Max, paid out the contract and got the 13PM… it’s all set up, just waiting for my case/screen protector to arrive. While it definitely feels like an S year, I feel this is the best year to buy - when the product has been refined/improved. In saying that, I am challenging myself to keep this phone for the next 5 years so I went for the 1TB option. Wish me luck not being tempted again next year 🙈

Just upgraded to a 13 Pro Max over a 12 Pro Max, and i really feel a difference. Maybe it's the 120 Hz screen, but overall it just feel so much tuned with a great finish. And when it comes to the macro camera, well it is just very cool!

@@muhdhaziq3219 My 12 Pro Max had a great battery, but i can feel a difference in the 13 Pro Max's battery life time. I'd say it's maybe 15% better. Like in all other ways, the 13 Pro Max is just more superior.

When it comes to choosing between two phones that are fairly similar it should come down to price. A person shouldn't go into debt just to get a phone that the slight now if you are affluent and have the extra money of course you can change every year especially if you get a good trade in value. If you're a person looking to upgrade from a older or inferior phone and you can get a good price on the 12 promax why not go for it? Nice video once again, you have a friend in Columbus Ohio!

I have a 6s plus and it's just fine. Makes phone calls, does internet, great camera, slow motion, great screen, and streams and stores music and movies and is a TV. Everything the 13 is. Plus mines a 128 gb. And only cost $200

Don’t forget the display brightness. 13 Pro Max is the first OLED phone I’ve ever had that is easily viewed in Southern California sunlight. (It’s 1000 nits compared to last year’s 800. That’s huge for me)

Is it my imagination or were the daytime shots with the cloudy sky much better on the 12? The sky had much more dynamic range and definition in the shots from the 12. At night the 13 definitely was better though. As for the "smaller" notch, it's more narrow yes, but it's deeper now. That's why the notch now cuts into 18:9 video. So yes, the design of this brand new iPhone reminds me of the Google Pixel 3 XL. Congrats Apple :/

Apart from the battery life, you shouldn't upgrade. And this is coming from someone that loves 120 Hz on my One Plus. Some shots on the 12 actually looked better than the 13 imo.
I agree and the selfie shots of Jamie like he said looked more natural with the warm ness of the skin. This 13 PM should have been the 12 PM last year.

Nah. The 14 will be this same phone just better and a redesign. That's the joy of having both operating systems . 120 hz isn't a must being I have it on my android . I'll wait for the 14 . Great review .
To be honest with you my friend the iPhone 14 only have a few changes like the removal the camera bump, 48 megapixel mainlans , and A16 biotics chipset. The rest of the other things will be the same even the battery since the new chipset will be another 20 percent more efficient with battery life.

The 48 megapixel lenses alone are something I would wanna try out Even though megapixels don’t tell the full story it seems an upgrade for someone with the 12 . To me the 13 is the 11s upgrade not the 12s s unless you gotta have that stuff every year. Not to mention the 14 will get rid of that notch and go to a whole punch design. To me that also warrants an upgrade from a 12 but I don’t see a reason to switch to from a 12 to 13 .

@@kennitobunge1062 yeah it's not an upgrade from a 12. Not even close . The reviewers have to say they are because they get free phones from the companies. They help market because people wouldn't upgrade just by looking at a 13 that looks nearly identical to the 12 .
Although the 13 notch is smaller, it would’ve made more sense for them to completely eliminate it, and also offer wireless charging. I’m upgrading from an 8Plus however, and truly loving this phone.

I have the 12 Pro Max and honestly I feel very happy with the phone. Tbh not worth the upgrade until the 14 series comes out. Hopefully the notch will be removed in the Pro models this year.
I did upgrade from the 12 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max, but only because my wife wanted an upgrade so she got my 12 Pro Max.
If she didn't I would still happily have a 12 Pro Max...however for a heavy user like myself, the battery improvements are very noticeable. The 12 Pro Max will need a top up by early evening on a work day (calls, multiple email account syncing, hotspot usage, 5G usage most of the day with mixed signal with 4G at times), but the 13 Pro Max will last until bed time with about 20% left.
Everything other advantage is a nice to have, but wouldn't miss it if I stuck with the 12.
In the IOS 15.1 beta 3 they have a option to disable auto macro :)

But that battery must suck for you after 3 years? I had XS Max 2 years ago and my sot was only like 5-6 hours at best.

I have the 11 pro max. But I recently just cracked my screen pretty good and it’s chipping and my 11 month old somehow always gets ahold of my phone 😬 so before she gets hurt I’m gonna upgrade. Was trying to figure if waiting for the 13 pro max to come back in stock near me was worth it or just get the 12 pro max. I love my 11 so I think I’m gonna go with the 12 pro max. The 12 has 5G the 11 pro max uses lte and lte is more like 3-4G at most and did you ever upgrade ??

The best thing about silver iphone is that you can use a metal polish and it becomes BRAND NEW. Other colours cannot do that because it has a colored coating on top.
But it can get scratched very easily :/

I honestly wanted to trade in my Note 10 plus for a future model but it seems like the Note line will be discontinued. Also Google removed Play Music for RUclips Music which I hate subscriptions, so until Android increases the Security and OS Updates more than 3 years I'm leaving Android.
So I decided to order a iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TB which I'm excited for, but unfortunately I have to wait until November 6th due to high demand.

My over 2yr old Note 10 Plus still gets me through a day easily, looks & performance is still like brand-new..
I've never experienced Lagging, freezing, etc. issues with this, my 1st Android Device! I love the customization, long battery life & display on this phone.
Since I mainly just stream or watch movies on my phone's. So in a nutshell, I'm holding out for the 2023 phones
That’s an awesome phone. I was doing ok with it until I started having smell sensitivity issues and could smell the battery smell from the pen. It was bothering me so I had to give it up. ☹️
Keeping the 12 PM since its jailbroken on 14.3. I would only upgrade to the 13 PM if there’s a jailbreak out for it. Jailbreaking an iPhone is the best kept secret
The 13 was worth it… I could see a huge difference especially with the macro mode…. The battery alone was worth the upgrade
