    Not a medal threat no, not everyone is a medal threat and that’s just the truth. I love Neita, I have been watching her progress and is proud of her but I am a realist

      I hear you, and I'm not making a blanket statement, but I think there are certain athletes who are in the conversation considering what they have done. She got 5th in the world last year, so it's not as if she is a nobody. Also yes the 200m is extremely deep, but athletes like Gabby Thomas, Carmelita Jeter, Dafne Schippers, etc. they never ran sub 22 seconds the year before they won their first global 200m medals. So its possible, but yes the 200m is stacked for real

    Darryl is definitely getting the British public excited, that recent wl 200m run really caught the imagination, yes we know it's only may but beating a world class field coupled with physically looking different, so much muscle added, we're excited

    The great thing about our sport is the unpredictability from season to season. There will always be athletes who will breakout during the Olympic year. Of course there are favorites to win, but there are also upsets. Daryl just might surprise us. Great video!

    In major championships Daryll has a tendency to run her semi finals faster than her finals in the 100m she will have to correct this in addition to significantly improve to win a medal especially in the 200m, I’m a fan of her but I’m just being realistic.

    • @TheFinalLeg
      @TheFinalLeg  2 месяца назад +8

      Thats a fair assessment, but remember in Budapest she ran a 200m PB in the 200m semi-finals, then dropped her PB again in the finals, so shows she might be getting much better

    I love her confidence, let's not forget that dina asher Smith has been the absolute darling of British athletics for the last 5 years and more, outperforming Darryl on track and generally being the kind of angelic sweetheart the British public, and British advertising agencies, loves, Dana will definitely be made a dame by king Charles when she retires, she has not just been the face of women's sprinting in this country, she has been the face of athletics as a whole...darryl is a very different character, loud, precocious and very confident...establishing her persona in the minds of the British public has been a struggle, they don't automatically take to extroverted women like Darryl, but she has stuck to her guns, remained herself at all times and now the pb's are flowing and it's apparent she isn't going anywhere but the top and the great British public are realising just what a huge talent they have on their hands, I'm rooting for her

  • @ozzy9348

    I certainly wouldnt deny her anything. she's been consistently improving. even if she finishes 4/5th it would be a huge confidence booster. not sure about the 100 but there's something in her 200. She runs with so much aggression and urgency now. it's certainly good for the top contenders to have sprinters like Nieta who will push the competition and the field if not anything. Now you have Shericka, Elaine, Gabby, Sha'Carri, Dina, Alfred, Steiner and Neita for a possible line up. I mean what a field holy shit.

    • @TheFinalLeg
      @TheFinalLeg  2 месяца назад +3

      Agreed, The improvement has been huge the past few years, and importantly in the 200m, she is relatively new to it so has a lot of untapped potential. Not saying she will definitely win a medal, but getting 5th place last year shows there is an outside chance. And we can't act like 21.9 didn't win a medal last year, which is possible for many athletes. Yes Paris may be faster for bronze, but who knows. But agree that the 200m field is STACKED

    Love that Daryll finally took the 200m seriously & immediately reaped the benefits, but while she should defo be a finalist in both 100/200m Paris Finals, a medallist is pushing it! In addition to the likes of a 21.53 Elaine & 21.77 Abby getting back close to their best, 21yr old Favour Ofili (21.96) who just ran 10.78 (+2.2) & 22.34 (-2.0) has clearly levelled up this yr & should be in this conversation. Also very much looking forward to another 21yr old in Rhasidat Adeleke becoming the next sub 11/22/50s sprinter like Shaunae & Shericka. Expect her to only run the 400/4x4 in Paris, but will be shocked if she doesn't run sub 22/49s this yr. At 21, her ceiling is incredible! GBR must be gutted she was born & raised in Dublin, IRL instead of across the sea in London, ENG :) Imagine Dina, Daryll & Rhasidat as their main trio! Their 4x1 & 4x4 would be so dope!

    • @TheFinalLeg
      @TheFinalLeg  2 месяца назад

      Agreed, her taking the 200m seriously showed the untapped potential she had. But agree that getting onto the podium will be a challenge. But like I said with the Kayla White video I did a few months back, a small improvement and step up could change everything for any of these ladies. Ta Lou had never broken 22 sec and has been a 200m medal contender. but to be fair, we are now in a different era and the 200m is DEEP.
      There's an argument that Adeleke is the most talented sprinter of this generation and would not be surprised if she became the next Marie Josee-Perec. Theoretically, she could get on the podium in the 400m in pairs, then in LA 2028 she could go for the 200/400 double. I honestly would not be surprised if Adeleke ran 48.5 and 21.6 this year in one-off races OR if she won 400m gold. Not making that prediction, just saying would not be surprised!

      @@TheFinalLeg S/O Kayla White (10.95/22.01), but think she really benefited from; an in-form Brittany Brown (10.90/21.99) who ran 22.05 (-0.6) in her only 200m last yr & was in PB shape in literally every event she did last yr not running the 200m @Trials; a frustratingly inconsistent Tamara Clark (10.88/21.92); and a clearly out-of-sorts Abby (10.90/21.77). From last yr's WC 200m Final, there was no Elaine, Abby & Favour was also out-of-sorts. Favour has levelled up this yr & her potential at only 21yrs old in the short sprints as a former quarter-miler is something to really look forward to! Wouldn't be surprised if Adeleke tries the 200/400m Double in Tokyo next yr or even possibly @Euro Champs this summer (like Klaver in '22) which only has 2 rounds per event 🤞

    She ran a 22.6 in an early season race, now she’s a medal favorite lol. When you have the 3 Jamaicans, Sha’carri, Julian Alfred, and even her teammate Asher-Smith. All of whom are much stronger medal threats.

    Last years performances are the best predictors of this years performance. Neita's 2023 100m SB was 10.96 ranked #18 in the world, her 200m SB was 22.16 #13 in the world. I don't think she has much of a chance to medal. Richardson, Frasier, Thompson, Jackson, Alfred, Thomas, Steiner, Ta Lou, Sears, Lyston. I think it will be difficult for her to even make it to the finals let alone medal.

    Srry to say, that won't cut it in both 100 and 200m, when u got athletes running 10.5 or 10.6s in the 100 and 21.4, 21.6 and 21.7s in the 200m

      It will be tough for sure, but there's always an outside shot. 21.92 won a medal in Budapest. Yes Paris may be faster, but I think the overall point is that the event will be very competitive and we could see surprises from Daryll and others. Just for context, Prior to the Olympic trials in 2021, Gabby's PB was 22.17.
      She then later ran 21.6 and got Olympic bronze. Not saying Daryll will do that, but highlighting how its possible for an athlete to improve and shock the world
