What's greatness in cheating? She cheated, lied, took shine from honest and hardworking people at the time, and for you that's greatness. My anger is that, there are many of her kind who went away with this, and today we see them as "GREAT"; we shouldn't let people like her make honest or hardworking people think that, hardwork and honesty does not pay. Finally, I am happy for her that she made a good use of her second chance at getting it right.
well it took her long enough to admit that she lied her face of and it was only in the face of overwhelming evidence she admitted it... she is a lying scum bucket and cost all of her team mates their medals
😳She only apologized after Balco labs ratted her out. She never had any intention of ever telling the truth so what is their to respect unless you believe in compulsive liars.🤷
Her form was poor, and lacked the will a true elite displays. Due to THG being undetectable by the methods used in the 2000 Sydney Olympics she was on the maximum dose, her body could stand, throughout competition. Even given advantages of the better tracks in 2000 and maximum doping, MJ could not match a performance, 10.49 100m, Flo Jo considered disappointing : in an interview immediately after, Flo Jo stated she had run faster, and wanted to run faster in the future. (Remember Flo Jo did not have access to an undetectable steroid, any usage would have had to be tapered off, and speed and form would have had to be maintained. )

She has conquered. She has overcome. She has been Redeemed. Not by the ones that think that they brought her to shame, but a Higher Power than them. None of them can take away the talent and skill that was installed in her. None of them can rerun her races. She did the ppt by coming clean , guilt and shame cannot hold her down. She Is Victorious. Since MJ never had any talent or skill to begin with, she can't lose them. She proved how unskilled she was by (a) In the Sydney Olympics, she was unable to beat 10.49, when taking the maximum dose of THG her body could withstand : she was constantly smiling due to induced aggression. (b) In the World Championships 100m, when an opposing athlete got the jump on her, she couldn't maintain her form all the way to the line despite appearing fresh afterwards, her opponent did, despite collapsing afterwards, showing her opponent was a true elite.
If people would be honest with themselves and not so self-righteous, this is a good example of the tribulations of normal life. If you are talented, there is an early time period of fantasy land where everybody thinks you can walk on water. So, you try not to disappoint people, but you soon realize it is an impossible standard to uphold. Eventually, you either cheat or come to grips with how you actually cannot walk on water. Then adult life begins.
A legendary cheat? She got stripped of all her medals and her name removed from the stat lines? Do you not understand she cheated her way through? She also caused others who ran on the relay team with her to lose their medals as well. Her name has been scrubbed as if she never ran track and rightly so. Her name will always be remembered as a bonafide cheater and a black eye to the sport. What part are you not getting? Sheesh.
I'm happy she's admitted she was wrong, but despite her apology, we can't ignore how consequences affect others. Think about the relay teammates who lost medals because of her.

We all make mistakes! An error isnt a mistake until you refuse to correct it. After it came out, she took it on the chin and came clean. It's always interesting tho to see how many people can make the exact same mistake yet the handling and outcomes as a result can be entirely different...
The solitary confinement in prison did her a favour : she was forced to recognize what she valued most and think about her path. Once she did, she realized she was heading down a bad path.
She was a threat even without steroids and she needed to be silenced. Money rules the world unfortunately........the lost image cost the big boys too much and there had to be consequences.
When I was a young kid running 100 meters, I used to study how Marion Jones ran the 100 meters, especially the last look she took at the track before putting her head down to wait for the starter. I was really disappointed to hear that she had been taking steroids, and I don't think she really needed them to succeed. Maybe she was surrounded by the wrong people at the time. I am glad she has sorted out her life and is enjoying it. I am sure her story is a great lesson for many people.
Omg same. She made sprinting into an art form and I literally copied her whole block ritual and it got me to junior olympics, nationals, and college. I blame Tim Montgomery.

Glad to hear of her present comeback for success, after such critical stumbling blocks in past. I guess beauty with superhuman talent both comes with a price.

The truth definitely didn't set her free : her part in a multi-million $ cheque fraud scandal was exposed. She was lucky the judge didn't give her 5 years, the maximum sentence, she was able to secure a plea bargain which resulted in a 6 month confinement.

The Love I have for Marion Jones will never die in me. As for me she's the best female athlete with a beautiful smile. I am happy that she chose happiness, peace of mind and family over a lifetime of regrets. Her admission of guilty is a lesson to all humans. I LOVE Marion.
Those saying she deserves credit for admitting her faults should remember she also denied the real, clean winner of all the races and titles she won, from getting the riches they deserved, not her. And she knew she would be doing this the day she decided to take drugs.

Wow, you lose your reputation, money, status, credibility, and your prized medals. Your name is removed from the record books. You tainted the athletes you performed with. Was it worth it? How could it be?! It breaks your heart.
This was very sad, that she had to endure all of this. They really stuck it to her because she's a black woman. How many times that Caucasian people use the same thing and never had to go through any of this.
She was impulsive. She said this herself when giving antidoping warnings to teens. She regrets not taking her lawyers advise, had she done so, she would likely have escaped any punishment. It amounts to not playing the game, the legal game in the US, smart enough. (With the kind of money she had, she should have boxed clever, with the help of her lawyer, and gotten away clean.)
My two kids graduated from the same high school about 5 years ago, Rio Mesa, that she attended in her youth. There isn't a single picture of her anywhere there. It is so sad. I think she deserves a third chance even, and should be invited back to all the places where she's made contributions and tell her story. I think the kids will understand, I really do. They know, especially as teens, just how tempting it is to take the bait; even when you are already so gifted and talented. I understand why she lost everything; she cheated. I don't understand how she ended up in jail. 4. Jones period of solitary confinement ensured she wouldn't be a repeat offender. She showed the impulsive behavior typical of a repeat offender, which would have activated her 2 year suspended sentence.
Overall she got off very lightly. The judge wanted to give her 2 years, but due to the prosecution offering immediate release to 6 months as his options, he could only give her 2 years suspended. NO ordinary citizen would have received such light treatment.

She didn't really have a choice. The noose was tightening, and she finally had to admit it all. She got off really easy at only 3 months in jail.

Her drug doping was so systematic she needed a calendar to keep track, which is how she was found out.
@J.Crooner exactly she robbed the other athletes
Most gracious soul and her running style was out of this world!
Yes, running is very important because only a lucky few was blessed with such a gift lol.
Perfect form .....that can't be taught....that's God given
Her form was poor, and lacked the will a true elite displays.
(Remember Flo Jo did not have access to an undetectable steroid, any usage would have had to be tapered off, and speed and form would have had to be maintained. )
A Beautiful story for me - The dignity and the courage of this woman is inspirational. She faced her fears, served her time - And came out a brighter person than she went in. To add, she now has a beautiful family. A true champ!

If people would be honest with themselves and not so self-righteous, this is a good example of the tribulations of normal life. If you are talented, there is an early time period of fantasy land where everybody thinks you can walk on water.

A respect for her cheating? Sounds real intelligent. SMH.
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of olympic and other high-stakes professional athletes that have done as much, and often much worse, and have suffered little.
