    Hi guys, love all your videos, keep them coming.
    Just wanted to share our electric setup. We are over towing caravans and too old for the rooftop suicide tents so have gone for a slide on.
    We are not caravaners but campers like you guys. We wanted to be able to have aircon without hitching up in a bloody caravan park with thousdands of other buggers.
    We have fitted 2 x 300 ah lithiums, 3000 watt invertor, 900 watts, (nearly a killer wasp) of solar, 100amp ac/dc charger & diesel heater.
    We can run our small split aircon for around 20 hours on eco mode on the batteries (because us old farts are soft), and of course we run our induction cookers & bushmans 120 litre fridge & 240volt electric hot water. No gas means more space , no 9kg gas bottle or never running out of hot anything! That is when we are not cooking on the campfire of course. When the sun don't shine we were going to get a generator to top up the batteries but that is over $2k for a Honda EU22i which is extra weight and space & you need to carry a container of petrol as well. So we opted for a high output 300 amp alternator, so the car alternator is really our generator.
    The car uses about 70amps of power normally, so we had it wired up so the alternator can pump about 150 amps easily into those lovely lithiums. Yes one of the benefits of lithiums is you can wack plenty of amps into them. The bigger alternator , charger & wiring setup is about $2k, same as a generator.
    We have an extended cab ute with our 70 litre fridge/freezer on the back seat with a 120 slim lithium on the back wall of the cab to keep it cool. We fill the freezer with lamb roasts & chooks etc.. and when we are up north we buy seafood cheap & stock up. If we are staying put for a while we can plug our big fridge/freezer into the 600 lithiums. When the sun shines our batteries stay topped up.
    Bloody great to be able to lay in that big queen bed at night and turn on the heat or cool with a remote! That's camping old fart style.😊
    The only suggestion to others if you are going this way, get plenty of battery power.

      Hey mate, thanks heaps for watching and enjoying the videos.
      Sounds like you are getting your setup down pat which is awesome. Also sounds like a ripper battery setup! Being able to stay off grid with all the comforts sure would be a massive bonus. Thank you so much for sharing we really appreciate it as we always hope someone else also might read this and get something out of it. 👍

    We’ve been tossing up between a power pack like Bluetti & of course the inbuilt systems & this definitely gave us some food for thought! If only the easy option had Anderson plugs!

    • @chasingdreamsau
      @chasingdreamsau  4 месяца назад

      I still think honestly the inbuilt is a better system to be honest. Something I didn’t think about until someone asked the question is if the battery stops or something can you replace it and unfortunately no you need to send it to them or someone who can sort it out to change it over and likewise for anything else that may go wrong. So I believe also not being able to change out certain parts that go wrong can be a huge pain and leave you without a battery system.
      Hope that also helps with making your decision.

    Gday mate with this unit, can you say plug a camper trailer straight into this like a jayco camper, then run lights, phone charger etc inside as normal, or so all appliances have to be plugged into this separately?

    • @chasingdreamsau
      @chasingdreamsau  19 дней назад +1

      Hey mate, unfortunately not. The plug to a caravan is normally 15amp and this unit is only built to run max 10amp. If you plugged your appliances to the unit and depending on what you run it should be fine. That would be great if they did work like a silent generator wouldn’t it. 👍

      @chasingdreamsau for sure I ran my van last night on 10 amp plugged in to a house, just lights and charged my phone so it should be alright haven't tricked it out yet! So this might be a good option

      I personally wouldn’t but best of luck with it all mate. 👍

    What happens if the battery fails in it or the inverter fails can you change the failed part or do you throw the whole thing out

      Hey great question, I don’t honestly know the answer so I have just asked the question. 👍
      Hopefully get back with an answer soon.

      Hey mate, from what they have said is that after the warranty period it would have to be sent for repair and they have a maintenance team in Sydney.
      So not as simple as just replacing it like an inbuilt system. Hope that helps. 👍

    • @Willg-vg3tl
      @Willg-vg3tl 4 месяца назад +1

      @chasingdreamsau I did think that could be the case definitely something to think about as would be easier replacing failed components in a built in system would be easier I'd say

    how dose this stack up to a gen set we are still sorting setup and van comes with 2400watt air con so looking at 2500/3000 to run it off grid but iftheses. bad boys would run it could be. worth it

    • @chasingdreamsau
      @chasingdreamsau  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hey mate, something like this will run it but the issue you will be faced with is the aircon will draw say 50amps there abouts and will only be able to run it for an hour or two. Generator would still be the way to go in this scenario i believe. 👍

    Definitely the built in system, but having the backup of a portable would be nice if you can afford it. They are quite expensive.

      Sorry this didn’t even cross our mind when making the video.
      BLUETTI AC240 is $3,199 but they normally have a special and it’s currently $2,499. The inbuilt system cost us $2,000.
      Thank you for commenting and saying as I’m sure others felt the same way and we just missed it.
      Have an amazing week.

      @@chasingdreamsau thanks also just a thought as I’m looking at doing either system just weighing it up I loved the pro and cons but a bit more on what you used with the Bluetti thanks love watching your videos

      Thank you so much. Really appreciate the feedback. We didn’t run the fridge as it doesn’t have an Anderson plug. We use it for induction cooking, air fryer and charging our laptop and camera equipment. We have also run starlink off it a couple of times just to save our other battery on an overcast week.

    Unfortunately you need a big solar panel to charge the Bluetti system

    • @chasingdreamsau
      @chasingdreamsau  4 месяца назад

      No not at all, our 170watt certainly tops it up with around 6 to 8 amps an hour on a good day. Depends how much you are using I guess vs how much you need to put back into it. 👍
