I'm going through very difficult days. I feel lost and alone. I've been crying a lot these days. This song is helping me get through this.
Get outside and go to the woods with a dog
May those tears turn into tears of joy❤ I feel your pain 😢 I hope it's sooner than later ❤
Same here... Stay strong you'll be ok.
God's listening to you. Why dont you talk to Him?
hopefully it gets better for you as well for myself so the alcohol tells me

No autotune, no click, no backing tracks, no gimmicks, no writing team, no corporate idiocy, just pure, pure talent. They don't make many like this anymore.
They still do. You just have to look for them.
@cerebropottymouth7567 those were the exact words that popped in my head hahaha. You have to explore. Fantastic artists are out there everywhere
So lucky to have grown up then
You got to admit there was some corporate idiocy included…
They are still out there but mostly independent. Check out Ren, chalk outlines, with chinchilla. New music lives on
This has got to be one of the greatest songs ever written

I was about 24 when I said to my dad “hey, this should be our song!”
We were separated for most of my upbringing but when I was around 20 I went to see him for a week and we became best friends. He died when I was 40 - I have never missed anyone so much. What a gift that bond was ❤

Probably the Greatest song EVER! I will be 60yrs old on Tuesday. Miss my DAD. Wish my son respected me as much as I respected Mt dad.
Give him time he may do so later when he grows up and gets more mature. I just turned 67 and now I am so so so proud of my son and it took a long long time to get there and I pray that you will also and happy belated birthday.

Gonna be scattering his ashes tomorrow. RIP pops.
RIP to your father, I remember being a kid and listening to this song with my father. 🙏
Rest easy pops
Beautiful sentiment. He sounds like a sweet man.
The San Fernando Valley. A great place to grow up in. I lived in Mission Hills, now called West Hills.
Rest in peace
It makes me cry. I loved my dad so much!!! Love the song. I am a lot like my dad!!’ He’s gone now. God bless.

There aren't. Deep Purple did go viral with their new release and Aerosmith and others soldier on. Even Neil Young goes live occasionally. Talent is now rare across most genre.

You can find some, in other continents too, I guess. Like this norwegian singer, song writer and record producer, Aurora, who crafts her musical art mostly by herself, as she wishes. Personally, her songs in her albums are not always for me (she's a "pop singer", and I'm mostly metal, with a bit blues, rock, folk, and I've enjoyed Neil Young for about 30 years now), but when it comes to live performances, she's great, especially in acoustic set up. She's not the new Neil Young or Aerosmith, for sure, but there's still some talent on earth, that being said maybe not really in main stream music industry. In exemple among many others here in YT:
AURORA Live from COP26 | UMA Entertainment: ruclips.net/video/qHPIPdPhUP0/видео.html
She has plenty of live sessions, where she sometimes varies, from slightly to completely, her rendition, as she feels it in the moment. It's worth to dig a bit (here on YT). Maybe you won't like it or her, but at least there're still creativity, talent and genuine renditions, even if it's not that easy to find.
@@Josian-ps7fb We got some new people - Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, lots of country artists are writing crazy good songs and singing them from the heart! Not quite the same, but I think Neil might agree that they're damn good!
If ever a song could transport you back to summer days, bell bottoms and weed this is it.
Happy days ❤❤❤
I lost my dad December 21st, 2021. This was one of his favorite songs and we would listen to it often. This version specifically. The pure, raw passion in his voice in this song would almost bring me to tears before I lost my dad. I simply can't understand how someone can pick up guitar and a microphone and make this magic.
Coming straight from the soul ❤️
I'm from India, I'm listening to this track back from when I was 12, understood a few words. This songs hits it home, love it more as time passes.
hi, there is another music video the Bernstein tapes that has Neil telling the story of how he wrote the song. he is referring to the old man that lived on the ranch he had bought, and he told the old man he didn't want him to have to leave the ranch and to stay there and live with Neil on the ranch they both then owned, now that is a blessing from one heart to another. Simple Love is goodness. Amen
@@jm1979mx that's so wholesome. Good on Neil for letting the old man stay. It must feel horrible to be uprooted from your home at an old age
The lyrics makes sense across cultures.
Old man, look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
Old man, look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
Old man, look at my life
Twenty four and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two
Love lost, such a cost
Give me things that don't get lost
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you
Old man, take a look at my life, I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true
Lullabies, look in your eyes
Run around the same old town
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you
I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past
But I'm all alone at last
Rolling home to you
Old man, take a look at my life, I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true
Old man, look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
Old man, look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
This man was 24 writing this, just goes to show the difference in times
The same with "Old Friends," by Simon & Garfunkel. Paul writes, "can you imagine us years from today, sharing our park bench quietly. How terribly strange to be 70." They are both 82 now!
I'm the Old Man now who remembers this song when Neil was our everyday music with his first album. The lyrics teased the reality of me being here today in a time when I did not give it any thought. I am amazed and grateful to be here, but Horrified at what my country, the world and it's people are becoming. Thanks Neil for one of the most Beautiful songs of my youth. I will go out on your positive song about us! May they all grow up and learn the lessons we know too well when they are still Young! Love-Love-Love!

This song is always complicated for me, and really makes me emotional. My dad and I had a very contentious relationship throughout most of my life, except towards the end when he died. And ironically, not only did we look so much alike, but also in character. I catch myself thinking , saying and doing things that he would. “Old man look at my life. I’m a lot like you were” really hits home .
I’m there with you. My dad passed in 1986. I was 18 he was 53. We look like twins lol. He’s still my hero. My cousin sent me a video of him before he was married to my mom. Amazing for me to see. My son said he couldn’t miss someone he never met. Until he saw the video
My father passed September 22, 1971. My first day of High School, then 10th grade. Life changed, and this song told my story in so many ways. I left school, home, and traveled from L.A. to San Francisco. Grew up quickly, playing my way through time and places…
I’m 67 today, and this song still takes me back to where I was then. As with many of his songs, they all seem to connect with people and pieces of times in our lives.
I’m a lot like you were’..
Thanks.. Neil

Hello, how are you today? It’s nice to meet you on here.
I'm 64 and there's so much more
Gorgeous song I used to sing it to my dad
Hello, how are you doing today? It’s nice to meet you here.
This song takes me back to a time when being a teen came with no worries about getting old. However time has passed and now I realize that I am a lot like every old man, just needing someone to love but reflecting on so much time lost. Life passes and whether we realize it at 24 or older we will always require love to hold us all the day through.
Life passes most people by while they are making Grand Plans for it. As Johnny Depp said in the movie Blow!
my dad passed last month, he was my best friend.
he played this for me a few times, we talked through music most days.
this songs holds a special spot in my heart for him.

In My humble opinion the BBC performance is The benchmark for acoustic shows. The sound of Mr. Youngs voice and the tone of his martin were sublime. One of the greatest of all time on 🔥this particular evening. Do yourself a favor and watch the whole BBC performance!
I was 14 years old when I discover this magnificent singer. I had bought all of this albums and listen them yet. I am 67 years old . All an history. My preference go for Harvest.
I learned about Neil young through my pops and I was young then and thought it was lame. I'm 37 now and listening alot and found this man is one of the better song writers ever
Played this in 72 on a transister radio the size of my current cell phone-Go Neil Go! Can't believe those 50 yrs went so fast!
So did I. Remember how many home-recorded (borrowed) Neil Young cassette tapes that were devoured (eaten) by the cheap cassette players we use to carry around with us in 73?
Stunning. What an artist. That guitar playing is first rate, along with everything else.
you can't really find words for how powerful this is, from a man so young.
❤❤
The universal power of music ladies and gentlement, that would make even an alien resonate and cry...
I love everything about this 🥰 performance!
Hello, how are you today? It’s nice to meet you on here.
Brings me to tears every time I have the courage to come back ❤
Neil is quite simply amazing
