I’ve been struggling with Chatterbaits for a while now. Only caught 1 Bass in the last year. I’ve changed trailers, line, retrieval…. You name it. Having said all that, I still have one tied on at all times. I know my luck will turn around and when it does, it will be with a big one!
Do yall have grass where you fish ? I have my most successful with it in the grass from about late May all the way through early to mid fall time. I'm in northeast Ohio. I fish exclusively jackhammers because they are the best . But the other ones will catch fish too. craw trailers lately but I so like the gambler komodo and the big bite swimon. Goodluck guys don't give uo.
RIP it out of the grass and fish it throughout the water column . Vary your speeds and your retrieve style. Start with a spinnerbait to get some confidence, both are two of my favorite muddy water baits .
Thank you for all this advices I'm 44 years old. The last time I went fishing was when I was maybe 12 and not that I live in Florida. I got the fishing bug, and thanks to you, Im catching more fish.
Love your focus on being different. Also your videos on where to find bass are great. Being new to bass fishing, I’d love a series on what techniques to learn first.
Imo, soft plastics like wacky senkos or skipping TX rig flukes are a great place to start. If you get hung up, it's not a lotta $ to lose. Very effective methods too.
I used to have a love/hate relationship with bladed jigs. I got a ton of bites, but lost a lot of fish. Got a new rod and it changed everything! I use the Ark Tharp Series Grinder, which is very similar to the B-Hittay, just a little lighter. Love it!! Thank you for your always informative tips!
Since this is a fairly recent video, I wanted to give a heads up that might benefit some of you. Yesterday 4/18/22, I was in Academy Sports in Winston-Salem and found Z-man chatterbaits for $1.12 each regular price $4.49. The regular $8.49 were $2.12. I don't know if all their stores do the same, but it's worth checking.
I'll say with the OG chatter bait my son likes the jack hammer I don't see much different amount of fish because I get more sometimes he gets more fish one year of testing and still going to figure out what is the big difference in price point. I get two chatter bait and my so gets one for the price point. I like the flashback 1/8 ounce with a 3 inch trailer then go to the bigger one's. Sometimes the bass likes no skirts on the chatter bait. So go with big eye strike 1/4 ounce for emergency if nothing else is working for Bass fishing. This is a great video chatter bait video 👊🏼 respect do more on this.
I use chatterbaits 80% of my time fishing. Alot of the spots I fish have so much wood in the water, jigs are the only way not to get snagged constantly. Your tip on turning the creature baits sideways has absolutely saved me money on lost jigs, and caught my best fish last year that way. Any recommendations on a trailer for the Big Blade? None of my creature trailers seem to get decent action behind it.
I think size of lake or pond you are on has a huge impact. Along with the pressure on the lake. Im in Fort worth TX. And some of the lakes around here, the fish just don't bite a chatter bait. I think so many people have been throwing them that the bass become accustomed to it. Same goes for craw style rigs. The only things I've had luck with are the willow vibe and the micro
i know bladed jigs catch fish, so far ive only caught one on it, but i love these videos bc i really wanna figure them out. I see my friends slay on them. Thanks for the good tips!
Good tips. Love that big blade in dirty or stained water. I often reel it and kill it repeatedly on the retrieve and get a lot of bites on the fall or immediately when I start to reel again.
Sup Tyler. I have most of the chatterbaits by zman, don't have jackhammer or finesse. I also have some thunder crickets. Except for original chatterbait I got rest in mystery box or giveaways. Learned a lot from video. Answered my questions. Ty tc
Caught my PB last summer on a Green Pumpkin Jackhammer, 7 Pounder out of a highly pressured reservoir in my area. Chatterbait does work! You can catch numbers and biggs!
Jackhammer got me in a trance on the water for real. Hands down BEST chatterbait period. That was the difference between myself and my all the time fishing buddy I chose to spend the money to find out how good it was n sometimes can see him getting jealous to the amount of fish I'm getting with the jackhammer
I went to a new lake this past weekend with muddy water. I tied a white jackhammer with a chartreuse kvd perfect minnow and caught fish in two spawning pockets. When they stop biting it I drug a rage craw around and caught more. One of the best days I’ve had on the water this year. They were all post spawn. I flipped the rage craw in wood cover on the points leaving the pockets and caught a couple bigger females.
Ty awesome video once again the information you are putting out is solid gold. I have been watching and pushing my channel and gave shout out and linked your video in one of mine couple weeks ago. You are definitely one of my go to for information since I am trying to get to the next level in my fishing career. You know as well as I do in the area we live in spring is just now arriving and I have competed in two tournaments as Co Angler and blanked so I went out yesterday and hit the bank with a shakey head just to get confidence back don't plan on blanking next tournaments
I came of age with the chatterbait in 2018, fishing around Dublin Ohio. I accidentally caught a few fish in springtime and then I bought a jackhammer and used it until it became my confidence bait. Once I mastered some different retrieves everything changed. I would fish almost all night long with a jackhammer and be catching fish consistently. Consistently better fish in the 3-5 lb range.
Zako is my favorite trailer for the jackhammer. And I fish it on a Johnny Morris signature reel, 7.1 great. I find that when I make my self SLOW way down is when I catch the better size fish. Just my 2 cents.
I love using the original the only thing I’m worried about is the longevity but I just lost the first one I got today after catching around 50 bass and pike on it so I feel like it lasted a decent amount of time for 5 bucks but I did have to replace the skirt once
this the sportsmans outfitters in Dothan, AL? If so, small world..... i grew up on dothan and started my outdoor journey with their original store lol.
I use the Chatterbait Elite they have hand tied skirts and on some of them I straighten the blade and bend it where the Jackhammer is bent and it makes it start thumping quick like the Jackhammer
I ordered the Zman jackhammer the other day. Looking forward to giving it a shot. Love the videos man I’ve learned a ton. Watching in North West Louisiana. Lake Bistineau is my home lake if you’ve ever fished it.
I have a hard time keeping paint on the blades and once the paint comes off the bite seam to fade. Do you have any recommendations? For the price of a jackhammer you think the paint would stay on a little longer. I’ve tried nail polish but it don’t seam to last but a couple cast.
Good info I would add if using paddle tail swimbait trailer to rig it upside. It allows for more action due to the water displacement of the blade, Thx for your videos
I use the big blade a lot. Found that when I caught a fish, the snap would come unsnapped during the fight. Never hat one spread open and never lost a fish because of it but it bothered the hell out of me that the snap was coming undone. What was happening was that when pulling on a fish, the blade lays down against that snap, and the very end of the wire is pushing against it. Or more correctly, the blade is pushing against the end of the wire snap. and it can push it to the point that it unsnaps. Simple solution. Take the snap off and turn it around, so that the side of the snap that can't come undone is what contacts the blade in that situation, This used to happen with the original, too, but the problem there was eliminated when Zman went to the wire with two twisted loops in place of the snap on the original.
Hello again.....I want to buy the Ark Randell Tharp rod for my Chatterbait fishing......do you recommend the fast tip rod or the Mod. Fast rod?. Right now I use a Abu Garcia MH 7'3" fast tip rod but I lose some good fish so I'm asking you what you use and why..... Thanks
I like and use all the chatterbaits but my favorite by far is the crosseyez series, they are very weedless and I use the kvd blade minnow as a trailer. It creates a ton on action and when you rip it through the grass you better be hanging on because they will absolutely crush that bait. In the last 2 months I've caught 32 bass over 5lbs fishing this bait around grass pockets and cypress trees. In my opinion the jack hammer isn't worth the extra $6 because it's just not as weedless as the crosseyez chatterbait. Thanks for the tips Tyler, always appreciated for your expertise.
I’ve owned 20 chatterbaits for about five years and maybe threw them twice in that time and caught one small bass. Here in Minnesota a big reason I don’t tie them on is because pike might just bite them off. 🤷🏻♂️
I just recently got out for my first fish of 2022 because our fishing season just started and I was quite successful! Love your vids man! I always learn a little from every video you post! Also I would like your opinion on my newest video because I tested my new GoPro hero 10 for the first time!
New to this bait, I use the original Chatterbait however the blade is cutting my leader line. I’ve lost 3 in the month I’ve been using it. I’ve retrieved one from the pond and the knot is still intact. What’s the problem here???
I can promise that no one else is throwing the bladed jigs I'm throwing; because I make my own from scratch. Skirts, jig heads, and custom blades, the entire thing is made from scratch. And boy do they ever thump! And because I make my own, I don't have to pay $16 a pop for a jackhammer. I go from 1/4 oz up to 3/4 oz and it's nice to be the only guy on the lake still catching fish in a bladed jig when no one else can.
I have a brown and green chatterbait tied on at all times...period. I don't think I have ever not caught at least 1 fish when using the chatterbait for an extended period of time.
I never catch fish on a chatterbait I've given up I've tried over 200 bucks with of them dif colors trailers no more I catch more with a jig or swim jig.
The plastic clear blade is junk, of course my personal opinion. It provided absolutely nothing. ZMan needs to needs to look into a larger stealth blade.
The bladed jig is one of a few baits I’ve got tied on 365. Amazing video as always bud.
Yeah you are definitely a sucker for a bladed jig :)
“Goes flying through the next universe” 🤣 i can relate to that
I’ve been struggling with Chatterbaits for a while now. Only caught 1 Bass in the last year. I’ve changed trailers, line, retrieval…. You name it. Having said all that, I still have one tied on at all times. I know my luck will turn around and when it does, it will be with a big one!
Same here unfortunately 😢!! We’ll get that giants this year buddy, keep grinding!!
Same except I always cut it off for a spinnerbait
What's your retrieve like? Just straight chuck and wind? What are your go to trailers as well?
Thank you for all this advices I'm 44 years old. The last time I went fishing was when I was maybe 12 and not that I live in Florida. I got the fishing bug, and thanks to you, Im catching more fish.

What’s the rod action?? Because I lose a lot of fish on a chatter bait.
@@timfontenot9921 It has a moderate fast action. I love mine for chatter baits.
Since this is a fairly recent video, I wanted to give a heads up that might benefit some of you. Ty, Great tips, thanks. I like throwing a chatterbait but have never used fa Jackhammer. I will order a couple. Keep posting the teaching videos.
Hey man just wanted to say thanks for the videos! Really help me sharpen my fishing skills

I keep a regular jackhammer and a stealth blade tied on this time of the year , saved me last week as 18 of the 20 I caught was on one of them
Good tips. Love that big blade in dirty or stained water. I often reel it and kill it repeatedly on the retrieve and get a lot of bites on the fall or immediately when I start to reel again.
Had the Best Time of my Life, last year with Strike King Pearl Trailer for Largemouth Bass & Northern Pike all Year up to 8-3!!!
Sup Tyler. I have most of the chatterbaits by zman, don't have jackhammer or finesse. I also have some thunder crickets. Except for original chatterbait I got rest in mystery box or giveaways. Learned a lot from video. Answered my questions. Ty tc

Banger video dude. Chatterbait is definitely my confidence bait if 2021 and is definitely top if the list of 2022!! 🎣🎣😎😎👏👏
I Get a lot of bites on the z-man original c-bait. I can’t wait to get my hands on the slobber knocker by berkely.
Great break down on these Chatterbaits. Enjoyed your videos 📹
Thanks for your videos, what trailers do you like the best on chatterbaits?
Yamamoto zako is the best

I like the Clickbait because it still shakes on the fall and falls at an angle rather than just dropping straight down.
I have a hard time keeping paint on the blades and once the paint comes off the bite seam to fade. Do you have any recommendations? For the price of a jackhammer you think the paint would stay on a little longer. I’ve tried nail polish but it don’t seam to last but a couple cast.
These have to be my favorite lure to toss out there. Monday I got my personal best Pike 21" 2.5lbs.
Good info I would add if using paddle tail swimbait trailer to rig it upside. It allows for more action due to the water displacement of the blade, Thx for your videos
Great video!! Always gotta tie on a beefy trailer to make it that much more juicy 🤙🔥
What’s that paddle tail trailer you had on the jackhammer?
I use the big blade a lot. Found that when I caught a fish, the snap would come unsnapped during the fight. Never hat one spread open and never lost a fish because of it but it bothered the hell out of me that the snap was coming undone. Spot on advice

Wow, what State are you fishing?
Thank you for explaining how larger trailers cause the lift while retrieving. Downsizing today!
Tyler, you're my new mentor.
Same exact lure I got there expected I keep on losing my trailer after catching a fish. It’s the Keitech fat swing swimbait.
Use a Lil super glue on the Very Tip of the Trailer!!!
I've had 2 Zman chatterbait this week where the blade ripped off. One was on a hook set too.
I saw in one of your bladed jig videos you use a Ark rod..... what one was it
Did you ever try the Strike King Tour Grade Rage Blade? I've caught more bass on that bladed jig than any other.
Love the videos man keep them coming bro.
What size should I use a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce?
Apparently there is going to be a chatterbait evo coming out OCTOBER, need to raise my chatterbait skills before getting it hahah
One the best baits to get bites, but also one of the best at catching some of the biggest bass in the lake.
Have you tried de berkley dex chatterbait??
Excellent video thanks 👍
Went head to head Origional vs Jackhammer vs micro vs big blade.... Jackhammer BY FAR....PERFORMED THE BEST.. Not even close...
I feel like I just went to school. Thanks for the informative video.
Used this exact technique today on the Arkansas river
Does it have to be a baitcaster or can it be a spinning reel?
Zman Original works Great in Western Nebraska for Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike!!!
New to this bait, I use the original Chatterbait however the blade is cutting my leader line. I’ve lost 3 in the month I’ve been using it. I’ve retrieved one from the pond and the knot is still intact. What’s the problem here???
Might not be one of the name brands us fishermen usually use, but it works!!!
Thanks for the video
I can promise that no one else is throwing the bladed jigs I'm throwing; because I make my own from scratch. Skirts, jig heads, and custom blades, the entire thing is made from scratch. What knot do u tie with this?
What’s difference between a chatterbait and a bladed jig if any?
Chatterbait is a name brand. Like a Q-Tip, or a Band-Aid. They're all bladed jigs.
i have also casted the body of a zman off and only had the blade. was a sad day lol
What line size are you throwing the jack hammer on in a lake with ZERO GRASS??
I usually use 12 or 10lb flouro-coated P-line for that
I've had a snakehead completely destroy a original chatterbait. Love using the jackhammer and the stealth blade
I’m about to go chuck one in about an hour, I’m pretty experienced with the bladed jig but always could use some tips hopefully I’ll get a chubby girl
Chatterbait is the best when it comes to overcrowded and muddy ponds. Never had much success with it in lakes though and they are useless in rivers.
I have yet to catch one on the big blade. But I know it’s coming.
Ive never had any luch with any chatterbait, hence why im watching videos like this
I have a brown and green chatterbait tied on at all times...period. I don't think I have ever not caught at least 1 fish when using the chatterbait for an extended period of time.
I'm working on using a chatterbait I have 1 bass on a chatterbait maybe I'll get a bite on the jackhammer 😊
Jackhammer is the best 💪🏼
Started fishing last year, caught 2 fish so far and they were both caught on a chatterbait...lol
Can you link to your favorite trailers? Or point me to a previous video that lists them?
I've caught walleye with them, just gotta let them sink.
I dont doubt people catch fish on them but I have never caught one on one. I cant catch a bass to begin with anyways though so.
Do you trim the skirt ?
I never fish it deeper than 10 ft deep. That’s about as deep as I can dive lol
I use the super fluke Jr. for a trailer
Who hates a chatterbait ..... prolly the best lure out there since the plastic worm
Another great vid, but cmon man, how may takes did it take for you to talk about stroking the chatterbait without laughing??
I have decent luck with chatterbate s
Body of water dependant
I have NEVE caught a bass on a chatter bait
I never catch fish on a chatterbait I've given up I've tried over 200 bucks with of them dif colors trailers no more I catch more with a jig or swim jig.
When Is pre spawn and spawn here in ohio?
Don't know , the weather sucks here, clear and warm on a Wednesday... .cold and rainy on the weekend lol
Never caught a fish with them
Useless here on a busy lake. Once boat after boat after boat throws the same crap, the fish get lock jaw.
I’ve been throwing them for 2 years still haven’t got a bite. Slay them on spinnerbaits and underspin but never the chatter bait. Send help 😂
Send me all your chatterbaits and I will break them in for you and try to remember to return them….
The plastic clear blade is junk, of course my personal opinion. It provided absolutely nothing. ZMan needs to needs to look into a larger stealth blade.
Y does it say 10 comments when I count 4??
Lol
Probably cause I deleted some that was someone trying to get people to invest in bitcoin lol
Cool thanks just 4 that Im gonna buy a hat
0 fish on the chatterbait. Wtf
Drinkin game... take a shot every time he says chatter bait
My liver would become pickled in the first 5 minutes. 😂
You lost me with all the self promotion
Chatter baits suck!!
