  • Today we are changing hydraulic & Transmission Oil In John Deere 410 Loader Backhoe. Changing the oil was a lot easier than what we thought it was going to be, there wasn't near as much oil to drain as what we first thought.

Thankyou for a very informative video..... i just bought the same machine...
I was told by a farmer not to get hydraulic fluid on a wound because it can poison you. I dont remember if it was old fluid or if it entered the bloodstream from a pressureized line....

      Hello,
I do know you have to be careful of pressurized lines so always use caution whenever working on a hydraulic system.
Glad the video helped you, I hope you have good luck with your machine! 🤞

Great video, well done. Where is the video on cleaning the suction screen?

      Thanks,
Somehow we missed filming the screen, but there is a large plug that is inline with the filters, use a 3/4" breaker to remove it (no socket needed, the plug has a square hole in it).The screen should slide out, I think they can get stuck so it may not come out very easy

Pro tip, dig a ditch then straddle it with the tractor, then you have room for you and the bucket under there , no laying on the ground

That's a good idea, however when I parked the machine there the engine was out so I could dig with it.
I did a complete engine rebuild and then did the transmission fluid/filter while I was there

20 gallon for hydraulic and 10 gallon for transmission. They both use the same oil. Do they both use the same fill hole right in front of the seat in the cab? 30 gallon total is like $750 if 1 gallon cost $25 each

Ya some model need different oil cause 10 years ago had a older machine it was different

Is the hydraulic fluid the same as the transmission fluid? Are there two different containers on the backhoe?

    • @ImaginaryMachines
      @ImaginaryMachines  2 года назад +1

It is all the same fluid, the dipstick/fill spout is in the cab right in front of the seat.
Be sure to check the oil after the machine is warmed up to get a accurate reading (check when engine is off)
Also make sure you use John Deere Hy-gard oil.

@@ImaginaryMachines Thank you. I just purchased a 1979 John Deere 310-B and this machine seems very similar to yours. I am in the process of repairing/ repainting. One issue I am having is getting the lever on the left of the steering wheel to shift into reverse. Forward is easy to do. Is there a sequence of using the two stick shifters on the floor and the clutch pedal that I am missing?

So I got my 79 deere running after new starter and a few hydraulic hoses. Had to get it off the guys property and out of the blackberry bushes, so this morning i drove it backwards home for 5 miles as it would not shift into forward. Have you any experience and/or tips with the reverser on this machine? Thanks bud. Love your videos. Van Valkenburg from Vashon Island, near Seattle, WA

I talked to a friend who said he knows the 410. The transmissions dont go its the pumps. According to him the transmission pump is under the seat/floor. I just watched a video and there is a hydraulic pump in thefront of the machine. You have to take the radiator off according to him to get at it.... good luck. Mine has a couple leaks and very poor/hydraulic power for the transmission but good power for the bucket and hoe.
First change hydraulic/transmission oil and filters as they may be plugged. I was told take filter(s) out and open them tosee if there are metal filings.

I had the same problem on my JD 210C Loader/Backhoe, I dropped the bottom of the pan and found the pickup screen was completely plugged up and the magnet was gummed up too. Cleaned it up, filled it back up with oil and it worked well but not long after it started to do the same thing again. I dropped the pan a second time and again the pickup screen and magnet were gunked up. I cleaned it up a second time, put it back together and filled up the fluid again. I don't use the machine too often but I haven't had a problem since and that was about 4 years ago.
