Why are we forced to visit Holocaust museums and learn about it in school. Why are we forced to read the diary of Anne frank, but main kampf is banned? I thought school was supposed to foster critical thinking? Which means analyze BOTH sides before reaching a conclusion
You're disgusting. You want kids in school to read Mein Kampf? I don't agree on banning it but maybe wait until university level for people to read what this fascist was all about in his book.
In my opinion, in order to “reach truth” or more precisely to reach the most rational conclusion, the ideal is to have as much critical thinking as possible. That means to read and to be exposed to as many different opinions and perspectives as possible and even making up imaginary ideas/ thought experiments. That being said, in all forms of education systems, there is a limit of time and brain power you can put, so when this happens you can obviously tell that the system will apply what it thinks is more important to give the students. And by “important” I mean not only in a matter of pure knowledge, but in the matter of “the right values/ethics”. I guess that where you live, the system agrees that the holocaust was a bad thing and thus learning about the victims of it is more urgent and morally right than explaining the rationals of the nazi /hitlers ideology. I believe that in the USA you can study more in depth about the nazi ideology and Main Kampf in higher education institutes. I can tell you that in Israel, we learned about the nazi ideas and rationals behind it in more depth. It’s quite interesting. And about banning Main Kamph? It’s a good debate. I can see why banning a book or discussing/debating an idea can cause a sense of oppression and a need to resist it. I need to think about it more, because I don’t have good enough arguments to establish a solid enough opinion. Although I believe you can access the book on the internet. Edit: when I said “the system agrees that the holocaust was a bad thing and thus learning about the victims of it is more urgent and morally right than explaining the rationals of the nazi /hitlers ideology” I need to add that learning about the rational behind the ideology that was responsible for the crime can be a good tool too to send a moral message too, by making the students aware of how can a person reach a point where they think destroying a whole civilization is right. So maybe it still have a place in the syllabus. Idk, I guess again that it all depends and that exposing students to the horror stories and to death/suffering is more efficient and impactful in making them know how bad that was. Edit 2: pay attention that in my comment I assumed that the holocaust was wrong/unjustified, I involved my opinion. in a deeper discussion, everything can be questioned, and that too. But then you have no choice but to enter the field of philosophy-ethics and maybe religion.
Israel had the opportunity to create a great partnership with the Palestine people and be a showpiece to the world, but alas, economic greed and extremist zionists did not allow it. Sad state of affairs, but we live in hope.
To single out one so-called state all the time means that state is most obvious in it's injustice for all to see. We all was aware of problems in all African countries during the South African APARTHEID years but South Africa was singled out because it was the most grotesque.
@@cockoffgewgle4993I still don’t see why that necessarily matters, especially since there are arguably worse conflicts going on, but the media attention all goes to criticizing Israel anyway.
What is wrong with criticizing aspects of Judaism anyway? Don't the Jews all argue and criticize each others beliefs? As far as I know many Jews condemn other Jews beliefs. Grow up people!
It’s a good point. But I think that because Judaism / being a Jew is kinda arbitrary concept (religion/belief/culture/nation/ethnicity???) it makes problems. I do think though that the more problematic form of antisemitism is the one that aims for the genetics/blood of the Jew, in such no matter how or where they were born. And no matter what is their beliefs or values- liberal/ progressive/ secular/atheist/muslim/anarchist etc, the jewiness is still in them from birth and thus it’s bad.
Perhaps, but what if it was a Muslim state? Would it face the same condemnation and worldwide outrage? I can think of two examples, Saudi Arabia's actions towards Yemen in recent years (killed more Yemenis in 5 years than 75 years of the Israel-Palestine conflicts) & Morocco's invasion and occupation of the UN recognised independent nation of Western Sahara, displacing the local population into refugee camps and building new towns and settlements (sound familiar?) for Arab/Arabised populations in the land of the Saharawis - somewhat unknown in western circles ?
@@AnthonySwaby212 Not sure what you mean. Afghanistan and Iraq was a Muslim state. Libiya , Syria is Muslim state. We know what happened. West will only stay silent in such cases when their interest is involved. Both Saudi and Morocco are under western influence. That is why Israel signs Abraham accord with Saudis and sells spying software to Morocco to perpetuate their regimes.
@@AnthonySwaby212 Probably because Israel is directly and substantially propped up by the West, especially America, economically, politically, militarily. Hence, it is a more salient domestic issue.
@@caimansaurus5564 Perhaps, but then you could argue so is both Saudi Arabia and Morocco, both receive substantial US support, with Morocco being allowed to violate international law with US backing and little outrage outside of Africa and little protest across the west, bar Spain & none in the Islamic world. In addition the Outrage (re Palestine) is not just domestic to the western world, but to nations as diverse as Colombia, South Africa and many non western propped up states, so the question has to expand beyond that analysis.
If I do something wrong and apologize, am I anti-myself or just insane? I believe to hold oneself to rational introspection which reveals ugly hometruths is to love ones humanity and is perfectly sane.
In Latin America, we have seen a domino effect of coups d'état against progressive presidents in several countries on the continent. And followed by the rise of several far-right populists moving Israeli embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem
With our new Zionist president Milei I fear for the territorial sovereignty of Argentina in the next decade, considering that our south was considered a candidate for what is today Palestine. They have been destabilizing national politics for years and buying large portions of land.
The average zionist today, in 2023, does not believe as Abba Eban wrote though, so i think bringing up an article written half a century ago to answer the question is a bit disingenuous. Most zionists bar a fringe, do not believe that criticism against the policies of the State of Israel in itself is antisemitic. There is a significant difference between criticizing the military occupation, and saying Israel should be dismantled and cease to exist as the Jewish State. If anyone called for the entire MENA to be stripped of its nationalist Islamic nature, they woule instantly be considered Islamaphobic. But the real crux of the antizionism equals antisemitsm stance is that 1) antizionism, by and large, denies Jewish indigeneity to Israel, which is, aside from being antisemitic at its core, is also anti scientific, and 2) the use of double standards when it comes to Israel vs every other country in conversations of policy and international law, something which any unbiased onlooker of the UN and its subsidiaries, should be able to unequivocally agree is real.
Zionism is colonialism. The amount of ads and propaganda I've been seeing in real life and online, in an entirely different country, that all claim antizionism is antisemitism are insane. Zionism is a plague and anyone who believes in this "right" to steal land should be neutered
If Zionism = Judaism then maybe that case could be made. However, if Zionism ≠ Judaism then we are back in this postmodern world of undermining language and meaning.

Anti-Zionism is to reject the notion that Israel has the god-given right to an ethnostate and to reject the notion it has the permission to steal ever more land in pursuit of that ethnostate.
Let's take 3 definitions of Zionism: 1. Oxford: ''A movement for (originally) the re-establishment and (now) the development and protection of a Jewish nation in what is now Israel.'' 2. Merriam Webster: ''An international movement originally for the establishment of a Jewish national or religious community in Palestine and later for the support of modern Israel''. 3. Brittanica: ''A Jewish nationalist movement that has had as its goal the creation and support of a Jewish national state in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews'' Chomsky talks about ''criticism of the criminal actions of a state'' without explaining what he means by that. Killing Palestinians? Raids in the West-Bank? Unequal rights? I don't see any reason why somebody can't be a Zionist and still be against these kind of things. One can be an French nationalist and still be critical of many French government policies. For example: supporting child labor by allowing imports of brands like Nike and Adidas. Does that criticism make someone anti-France? It totally doesn't make sense. Chomsky pretends it's plain and simple through his intellectual tone and demeanor but his answer is just blurry and vague. I'm very critical of many Israeli government's policies. Does it mean I'm against the idea that Israel should have the right to exist? I'd say: being anti-Zionist is being antisemitic, being critical of the criminal actions of Israel is not. To all the people blindly praising Chomsky for his greatness, genius and non-human intellect: just pay attention to what he's actually saying. In the case of this particular video, nothing noteworthy.
Well, if Israel's goal is to create peace with Palestine, you cant just focus on "Jewish national state in Palestine" and "Jewish national or religious community in Palestine."
Indeed, but there has never been a consensus among Zionists about what part of Palestine. And the definition changed over time for many people, especially after the partition and creation of Israel. That's why; specify what you're talking about. Same goes for vague slogans like ''Free Palestine'' and ''I stand with Israel''. They're open slogans with many interpretations @@Siroitin

Augustus Berg and Franck L. Goldwasser are flip sides of stupidity and intellectual dishonesty.
Why are we forced to visit Holocaust museums and learn about it in school. Why are we forced to read the diary of Anne frank, but main kampf is banned? I thought school was supposed to foster critical thinking? Which means analyze BOTH sides before reaching a conclusion
wow really? where are from? (genuine question)

Not really, it was founded on stealing Palestinian homes and massacring thousands

Thanks in advance.
To single out one so-called state all the time means that state is most obvious in it's injustice for all to see. We all was aware of problems in all African countries during the South African APARTHEID years but South Africa was singled out because it was the most grotesque.
It's also because we/the US/the west are complicit and responsible.
Thank you Noam, succinctly put!

If Israel was a Buddhist state , it would still face the same criticism it does now.

Anti-Zionism is to reject the notion that Israel has the god-given right to an ethnostate and to reject the notion it has the permission to steal ever more land in pursuit of that ethnostate.
Think, Russia or China invent something like this slogan, and perform bad actions, nobody can criticize them in UN 🙂

Indeed. The U.S. is prayed upon for its intellectual vulnerability
A pampered child is seeking sympathy, thats what the aparthied state is.
Let's take 3 definitions of Zionism:
1. Oxford:
''A movement for (originally) the re-establishment and (now) the development and protection of a Jewish nation in what is now Israel.''
2. Merriam Webster:
''An international movement originally for the establishment of a Jewish national or religious community in Palestine and later for the support of modern Israel''.
3. Brittanica:
''A Jewish nationalist movement that has had as its goal the creation and support of a Jewish national state in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews''
Chomsky talks about ''criticism of the criminal actions of a state'' without explaining what he means by that.
