One big problem with Samsung’s One Connect box is that at my new house that’s fairly higher-end, the wall for the TV is already pre-wired with HDMI 2.1 e-ARC inputs and power, so as much as I would love to get this TV it’s a no go for my installation - which sucks. Hopefully the Sony version is just all built-in like usual.

I still have a LG C2 42” for pc use, bought it the day it came out. Recently got calman home and calibrated every mode, i’m so happy with it except for one thing. I would love a 42” size pushing 1500+ nits as well. Would make a great gaming experience.
I researched TV's for months before buying this one, I hate it... Judder is terrible and using any of the judder and smoothing control just adds artifacts (and this is using the TV streaming apps!). Sound is another issue, every few minutes it has a little skip in the sound (TV speakers or receiver however using pass through with a connected streaming device doesn't have this issue, seems to be a processing issue with the one connect box). Currently back and forth back and forth with Samsung. Safe to say my love of Samsung is gone, for a flagship I'm bitterly disappointed. My 12 year old Samsung LCD is better than this TV.
These TV companies will do anything to look good. From a "damaged" to a "fast turnaround golden sample" from samsung? Looks like a planned bait-and-switch. You need to buy the TV from a store to review instead of getting a review TV from the manufacturer.
Finally! Some rationality! Why should ANY TV (consumer grade) not include all the formats? LG. Sony, Panasonic.. all have DV.. I honestly prefer DV for TV content and HDR10 for gaming so I guess C and G2 will do until Samsung or someone else brings along a TV that's all bells and whistles!.
If Samsung Electronics wanted to nerf the qdoled's peak brightness, then why did the sony qdoled model from last year have even less brightness than the s95b? Because the tv manufacturers likely knew that the "2000 nits" claim was bogus and could quickly lead to burn-in.
The limited brightness may also be due to a lack of an actual heatsink. I think they advertised this year that theres a graphite heatsink but from what ive seen people think its marketing talk for their thermal pad they had last year. Maybe sony a95l has a chance of hitting those peak nits because of the heatsink and because they tamed the brightness on the a95k. Also i went to my local electronics store and was talking with the staff in there and they were saying they had a lot more people bring in there s95B with burn in than A95k or G2 owners. So thats why they kept recommending the other OLEDs to people. But it is still a great TV. Would love a comparison between the s95C and A95L or even s95b and a95k to show whether dolby vision is a big deal though because from Stop the Fomo vid there didnt seem a big difference. But not a lot of recent content showing the difference in todays market
Great review! I’m looking forward to see how the A95L compares, if it really reaches 2000 nits (Sony did claim 100% brightness increase in their marketing), then I’m gonna be really tempted to replace my LG G2!
@@xFrxsty Honestly it was an open box from BB. I only had it a few days and realized there was a faint "Samsung" across the screen. End of the day its a beautiful TV. Sad to see it go BUT no tv should have burn in less than a year old tv. PERIOD. Anybody else wants to ration what they watch god bless, but thats insane to me. The TV wasnt free and I didnt want to see how bad it gets in a few years. I ended up going with a mini led instead.
For the price of this TV (6000$ from what I see) you can get a 4000$ TV from any other manufacturer that's 80-90% just as good and get a top of the line graphics card for your PC also. I fail to see the premium value in this product especially since their OS sucks so much. Samsung used to have the absolute best panels but I can't say it's so true anymore. I suggest getting the LG TV instead and investing in other enjoyable accessories instead unless you're rich.
Hey Caleb great video, im obsessing over buying this tv but im on a budget atm lol, is Samsung coming up with more qd oled tvs in this size and maybe even better ones?
I can't understand why people use sound bars or run sound through their tellys. If you own a TV of this quality you can afford and should have a 5.1 system that is THX certified (minimum). Also, streaming anything is never as good as Blu Ray (even 1080p), plus you can bypass the TV altogether and run your DTS signal through your sound system. Also, who needs Dolby vision? It's like having a graphic equaliser on a high end hi-fi, just silly. If the source is reference quality, you don't need to artificially make it "better".
People stretch their budgets with TVs. Not everyone wants to go through the headache of buying more stuff. They want a good TV that works out the box, thats it.
Would love to see how it compares to the G3 and A95L. Good to see they added static hdr. Now nets hope they will get 34" gen2 panels soon. And I hope they will make 83/85% screens in the near future. I would like Sony 83/85 A95M
From my perspective (in the UK anyway), I’m really hoping that Phillips (which is evaluating QD-OLED) takes this technology on as a consumer set. From my perspective, Phillips will offer all HDR formats as well as their brilliant Ambilight technology as well as its competitive pricing. I’m thinking that MLA will need to be made available at a lower price on LG’s C series to really bring it into the mainstream. Should that be the case, it’ll give QD-OLED a real run for it’s money.
@@jasmadahar9089 The money is in affordable sets right now. I hear much of the budget stuff from brands like TCL is killing it in sales when compared to these 4k costing TVs
i feel you when you said you can’t tell a difference with the dolby vision! i have a samsung and a hisense with dolby vision and watching disney+ marvel made content i would still pick the samsung despite no dolby vision because you get better brightness and a sharper overall picture!
I have the first gen qd-oled from samsung. Absolutely love it. Not a fan of the user experience when it comes to Tizen. But, I don’t do much with it as far as swapping inputs or apps. It’s fantastic. The 2nd gen looks even sweeter!
I actually had an LG E8 fall flat on its face after unboxing the top. Amazingly there was actually no discernible damage when I turned it on. It wasn't until a few years later that I noticed the bottom right corner now shows a bit of blotting... but it's only visible in certain conditions and it's so small that you can't really notice it. Basically the bottom right corner is a bit rounded instead of the sharp angle the other corners have. It's still going strong and I honestly don't think I need to upgrade this thing for a while longer. No burn-in yet! 😊
Just out of curiosity, what made you go for the E over the C or even better G? Just curious.. don't hear many people using the E series and always been a bit of an enigma.. I worked in richer sounds before covid and even then we barely seen the E series on display! Always aas the A,C,G series!
@@SSNebula I think they don't make them anymore but honestly it was price. If I remember correctly they were the same as the C series of that year but a bit slicker in style being a full slab of glass all the way to the base (it gives the unit a floating effect on the stand) and with better speakers. I got it for a good deal shortly after it came out because apparently they weren't moving. The only reason one would buy it is because of looks honestly. The C8 was technically the exact same unit otherwise. You can actually dump a C9 board on these to get full 4k 120Hz out of the panel via HDMI even! I think LG realized people weren't willing to pay a bit more just for looks and discontinued them because mine was cheaper than the C8 was at the time.
I got this TV and can't agree more with your review, this TV it's a treat, I'm impress on how punchy, vivid and bright the TV is, viewing angle it's amazing, gaming it's a delight, even the kids loved this, I had to watch Moana around 100 times on my older TV but with this TV Te Ka scenes are something else (the reds and black looked so wow) we are all super happy (even wife changed her mind from "too expensive" to "wow you were right, it was really worth it"), on the downside Tizen is not my favorite a few apps I can't find and old shows like Seinfeld on Netflix looked terrible (maybe I need to change settings but not sure how), sound is not really a problem since we see movies only after getting our kids to bed with modest volume and then play games with gaming headsets, so this fits all my needs. P.S. For installation I recommend watching tutorials on RUclips. The base is heavy and not easy to assemble, but one connect box is very worth it. I was able to get the 55' for 1.3k around $700 less than Sony 55X90L so I think this was the best for her value
So funny! Thank you for your review! - No Dolby Vision, - No DTS - No 85” unfortunately when will Samsung get with the program. Will you compare it to the G3?
Doesn't the one connect cable always carries power to the panel? My old 2018 Samsung with the super thin cable sure does. I love it. LG should really copy that, actually everyone should do it.
Your reviews are absolutely fantastic. There are so many points in this video that were really helpful. The extra attention detail, like panning the static and active is just second to none
Sounds amazing. Caleb, appreciate your humor and hard work on this. That said, I hope it's not being overhyped like the previous version. I'm wondering what the Sony A95L will have to offer over this? Will it's tendency to have superior color accuracy be enough? Looking forward to it. Obviously Sony will have Dolby Vision but will it's gaming features be lacking in any way comparatively?
Another theory - so they can charge us full price again for the S95D without using a new display. Just add another 20% brightness and call it a brand new TV :)
You should keep in mind that people with poor eyesight need lights on all the time. What tv's would be good for them? Also, how do you tell if TV upscaling is actually working?
I suspect that Samsung has not released the full brightness power of this TV because of concerns about burn-in. This is why LG keeps dimming down their picture in certain sceens. My 5 year old $3K plus 65-inch LG Oled has developed burn in and it just ruins the picture. In addition to the image retention, there is quite a bit of color fade especially with the reds on large areas of the screen. In my experience as you use the OLED you sort of use up the color, so it gets weaker over time. Early Rting testing of this technology does not bode well for the longevity of this beautiful picture. At these prices I would like the picture quality to last at least 7 years, but if the early testing is any indication I believe problems might develop within 4 years.
..yes we can ONLY wish, even Sony uhd LCD lived 4 1/2 years, Its made it so you buy new one as soon Its posible.. QD-Oled will be the same, you are right sir👍 but there is no other choise, perhaps you will not watch tv that much 😂
75% 2020 is if you are using DCI-P3 mode (or auto which remains broken), if you move to BT2020 you would get around 90% Also the little packing bumpers were on my S95B so not new for this year.
It is time Simba. Im rocking a 43 Samsung from 2011. Thank you for the review. Needed to see this before clicking buy on the samsung store. My last hurdle is the wife ❤👀
The screen rubbing issue is well know issue of samsung QD-Oled. I am from India (Delhi). I knew the place and sellers who bought these rejected TVs and re-sale at less than 50..70% off with 1yr seller warranty. They said there is no complaint with LG panel but the thermacol itself rubbed the screen(samsung qd-oleds) which make most of the buyers asked for returns and these TVs then available to re-sellers.
After seeing Stop the FOMO prove that there was little to no difference between Dolby Vision and HDR10+, this TV is definitely going to be my choice. Q Symphony helps with the decision also..
There is 1 major difference in that Dolby Vision is the universal standard used by virtually all the studios and streaming services, whereas HDR10+ is hardly used by any of them (Amazon Prime Video being a rare exception). So more often than not, your choice would be between DV if you go with other major brands, and nothing if you go with Samsung. 🤨
@@Noneya5555 It doesn't matter. HDR10 (non-plus) with active tone mapping *can* be better than native DV. That was the point of the Fomo video. Unless you are pixel peeping, pausing every frame to do side by side comparisons, you should not notice a difference between them.

Hiya, thanks for an excellent review, as always. I can buy this telly 77" for 2800e (on sale) or Sony XR77A84LU for 3100e Which one would you recommend considering it for movies only and that I watch movies from Nvidia Shield Pro (only, so I'm not concerned about picture processing) and have Sony HT7000/RS5/SW5 sound system Samsung seems to beat Sony on brightness levels all the way, but on the other hand, I could use Sony with my Sony soundbar as a central speaker, and Sony has Dolby Vision support Again, this is strictly for movies only, well, and PS5 😉 but not that often What are your thoughts, thanks
I was confused when you said Sony A95L but in the video somebody wrote Sony A97L 😊. Great review Caleb! Can't wait for the final Top 3 TV for this year to coming out.
We all know how beautiful the TV image is but here are some things no one is talking about: 1) Internet Speed - Limited to 10mb over 100mb. So the max download speed you can get on this 2023 device is 100mbs. 2) NO Google Assistant - Confirmed after speaking with Samsung support. It looks like Samsung has split off from Google Ecosystem and will not support Google Voice Assistant on their newer devices 3) Built In Audio - Almost no bass. Sounds rather bad. Definitely needs a soundbar. 4) Low Brightness Ambient Mode - Ambient mode will cause burn-in on OLED TVS so while it's offered it's at a very dim brightness setting with no static images and overall looks meh compared to Samsung QLEDs 5) Storage - My TV was down to 19% availability right off the bat because of so much pre-installed bloatware 6) Uninstallable Bloatware - Samsung won't allow you to uninstall anything they've preinstalled for you. The Remove button is greyed out 7) Laggy Interface - You'd think they'd install a faster processor on their most premium TV but they cheaped out. The TV menu lags and isn't a fluid experience. 8) Settings Menu - When you go to settings it always will start playing Samsung TV + or whatever other TV app you were using. Like why? Also, why put All settings all the way at the end? 9) Mounting - Back of the TV is not flush. Required different size spacers on the top and bottom to get an even mount. -> I opted for the Samsung TV because I use a Samsung/Phone Laptop but I'm realizing there are very few ecosystem benefits and not having Google Assistant is a huge dealbreaker for me. I'll likely be swapping to the lG OLED.
Thanks DT. This year is the year I replace my 2018 LG C8 Oled. I am going to buy the Samsung S90C because it has an analogue out, so I can connect my subwoofer to it. Bravo Samsung for thinking about my needs! Currently, my work around is to use the optical out connected to an audio extractor. This barely works, because I can't control the subwoofer volume as I change the TV volume. That problem will finally be addressed. Again, bravo Samsung!
Shield TV pro should be a companion of any good TV. Best upscaling technology and awesome gaming. Android TV experience. They just need to refresh the lineup with a HDMI 2.1 shield for 120hz.
No Dolby Vision, meh gaming performance, hard pass. Await the big Sony reveal, or LG G3, which is extremely impressive. Screw 8K, been there with Samsung twice, it's a joke, everything is poorly upscaled. Stick with 4K, at least for now.
Stuck deciding between to two,. My heart and brain wants Sony but at $2.5k, while I can get Samsung and lg TVs at a work partner discount. I’ll have to skip Sony for now. I could get a G3 55 for $1.8k or the S95C for $1.4K which is a great deal but still deciding haha
@digitaltrends - ok - MASSIVE negatives with this TV - 1. no long One Box Connect cables available. Only what comes in box (small and 2 meter) , 2. the Remote is so so so so so bad. like just horrible bad...
I would say Samsung pegged back the brightness to reduce the chance of screenburn and to help with panel life. It might also allow them to bring out the 2024 TV with "extra brightness" using the same panel!
@@RealArtVandelay Not as such. The S95C panel can go up to 1800-2000 nits from factory. Obviously running at that may affect panel life and accuracy. So although brighter than the S95B, it could go higher.
@@NexGenTek I really like Caleb but this review disappoints me. Why bother with a “golden sample” if it’s not truly what the general public can purchase. Plus DT has 1M followers they can afford to purchase a TV.
What's up with the tv borders on lots of your shots? Most of the times the borders aren't equal all around.. I've been thinking about buying this tv, but I just returned my Hisense 65A9H because it had that exact same problem, so I wouldn't want to have the same issue again...

Luke 15:3-7 (KJV) 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
Samsungs are great until you adjust the volume and see an annoying large OSD popup even when you’re trying to just Adjust the volume on an amp or something external. Seriously Samsung introduced this and because it, Samsung is the last tv you want to watch movies on if there’s more than one person in the room. Otherwise every minor volume adjustment, you’re just distracting your audience. This wasn’t an issue on previous Samsungs and no other tv manufacturer does this. Volume should show only if it’s the tv speakers. If I’m using a separate remote and sound system, stop advertising what I’m doing.
I too used to like the google chromecast and had it plugged on my panasonic oled but i have noticed that google very intentionally dulls the picture quality of Prime video content. I can notice it distinctly when I compare it with my native tv app and also with the one in apple tv. So apple tv has permanently replaced google chromecast as my go to streaming device.
samsung stubbornly adhering to qled tech, even pushing it so hard reminds me of how subaru pushes its cvt tech so hard. come on now, it's 2023. dump the qled already.
It's just been found to not be full 48Gbps, but only 40Gbps like the LG CX because of the one connect box. I purchased the S90C 77" due to this and the fact that the panel is the same as the S95C (in the 77" only), for a thousand less, around $1500 less after Samsung Care Plus for 4 years and tax differences. Minor differences in speakers (should have surround if you have this anyway) and a bit less bright in testing not really application. Happy hunting. I literally went crazy choosing between LG G3, and the 2 Samsung OLED'S S95C 77" and S90C 77". I actually ordered then cancelled S95C after finding out about the HDMI mess.

I think if people scream loud enough they'll fix it like they fixed the S95B which had overbrightened eotf for movie maker mode at launch.
So dramatic! Haha love it, Caleb if I knew how, I'd enter you as my nomination for best newcomer in next year's PrimeTime EMMYs, bravo!
Great review! I’m looking forward to see how the A95L compares, if it really reaches 2000 nits (Sony did claim 100% brightness increase in their marketing), then I’m gonna be really tempted to replace my LG G2!
New TV every year? Lucky!!!
@@shroey20 im still using my 2020 CX and have no plans on replacing it any time soon.
My S95B already has burn in. Im not kidding.
How long did you have it for? And how many hours a day did you use it and what content did you watch ?
@@xFrxsty Honestly it was an open box from BB. I only had it a few days and realized there was a faint "Samsung" across the screen. End of the day its a beautiful TV. Sad to see it go BUT no tv should have burn in less than a year old tv. PERIOD. Anybody else wants to ration what they watch god bless, but thats insane to me. The TV wasnt free and I didnt want to see how bad it gets in a few years. I ended up going with a mini led instead.
I’ll say this I hate WebOS . Tizen looks better In my book
The OS does suck. The panel itself is amazing though.
Thanks Caleb for the review. Another year of ZERO Dolby Vision. What a shocker... 😆
I swear, Samsung is rich for everything, but too cheap when it comes to not wanting Dolby Vision.
@@DedricSilva it's not the matter of money. They're just too proud to acknowledge that HDR10+ is a failure.
I am interested in the furniture the tv stands on. How can I find it?
The only problem with Dolby Vision isntheres no easy way to turn it off.
@@Kevfactor did you really just compare TCL to the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic...?

i feel you when you said you can’t tell a difference with the dolby vision! i have a samsung and a hisense with dolby vision and watching disney+ marvel made content i would still pick the samsung despite no dolby vision because you get better brightness and a sharper overall picture!
I have the first gen qd-oled from samsung. Absolutely love it. Not a fan of the user experience when it comes to Tizen. But, I don’t do much with it as far as swapping inputs or apps.
It’s fantastic. The 2nd gen looks even sweeter!
Same thoughts exactly
Same, i just bought a Google TV dongle for it. My other TVs are Google/android TV so can’t go back to Tizen.

Is it really true that the Samsung updates fuck up the screen in a couple years?
@@lammyjammer6670 fair enough! Didn't realise that never had hands on with the E series from LG
- No Dolby Vision,
- No DTS
- No 85”
unfortunately when will Samsung get with the program.
Will you compare it to the G3?
no need for Dolby Vision anymore.
I had the LG c2 abd switched for S95c.
Picture quality is better without Dolby Vision lol
I expect the gaming experience will be superior on the Sony they got PlayStation! HYPE
@@stefanjakobsen6038boy were you wrong
Another theory - so they can charge us full price again for the S95D without using a new display. Just add another 20% brightness and call it a brand new TV :)
You should keep in mind that people with poor eyesight need lights on all the time. What tv's would be good for them? Also, how do you tell if TV upscaling is actually working?
Numbers for Nit-Nerds is my favourite section
I’m curious how much heat a tv puts off after running for a few hours
theyll have to give us dolby vision eventually, they cant keep this up
Unfortunately they won’t because HDR 10+ is theirs
Remember to keep your "golden sample" offline cause it will end up as "bronze" after couple of months before next gen
QD-Oled will be the same, you are right sir👍 but there is no other choise, perhaps you will not watch tv that much 😂
75% 2020 is if you are using DCI-P3 mode (or auto which remains broken), if you move to BT2020 you would get around 90%
Also the little packing bumpers were on my S95B so not new for this year.
... yep, very true, even the previous S95B could reach around 90% in BT2020, the "auto" mode is broken, and has not yet been fixed by Samy ...
You’re right and I will mention that in the comparison!😅
I prefer the 8k TV it's way brighter
It'll be the best until they smack you with that firmware.
With every video we inch closer to the myth, the legend, the fable, the lore that is the tale of the mystical X95L review.
Looks like the X93L will be part of that inching closer. It’s the first one Sony could send.
Lmao, I wouldn't even waste my time with tech that still uses backlighting and local dimming. Bring on the real Hotness, the A95L...

@@Noneya5555 pretty sure it reverts to standard HDR when there is no Dolby Vision support.
The difference is availability. Much more content and streaming services use DV.
@@Noneya5555 It doesn't matter. HDR10 (non-plus) with active tone mapping *can* be better than native DV. That was the point of the Fomo video. Unless you are pixel peeping, pausing every frame to do side by side comparisons, you should not notice a difference between them.

Which one would you recommend considering it for movies only and that I watch movies from Nvidia Shield Pro (only, so I'm not concerned about picture processing) and have Sony HT7000/RS5/SW5 sound system
Samsung seems to beat Sony on brightness levels all the way, but on the other hand, I could use Sony with my Sony soundbar as a central speaker, and Sony has Dolby Vision support
Again, this is strictly for movies only, well, and PS5 😉 but not that often
What are your thoughts, thanks
I was confused when you said Sony A95L but in the video somebody wrote Sony A97L 😊. Great review Caleb! Can't wait for the final Top 3 TV for this year to coming out.
Wonderful review and I think we all are waiting for the face off.
We all know how beautiful the TV image is but here are some things no one is talking about:
1) Internet Speed - Limited to 10mb over 100mb. So the max download speed you can get on this 2023 device is 100mbs.
2) NO Google Assistant - Confirmed after speaking with Samsung support. It looks like Samsung has split off from Google Ecosystem and will not support Google Voice Assistant on their newer devices
3) Built In Audio - Almost no bass. Sounds rather bad. Definitely needs a soundbar.
4) Low Brightness Ambient Mode - Ambient mode will cause burn-in on OLED TVS so while it's offered it's at a very dim brightness setting with no static images and overall looks meh compared to Samsung QLEDs
5) Storage - My TV was down to 19% availability right off the bat because of so much pre-installed bloatware
6) Uninstallable Bloatware - Samsung won't allow you to uninstall anything they've preinstalled for you. The Remove button is greyed out
7) Laggy Interface - You'd think they'd install a faster processor on their most premium TV but they cheaped out.
Still kinda early to be replaced

@digitaltrends - ok - MASSIVE negatives with this TV - 1. no long One Box Connect cables available. Only what comes in box (small and 2 meter) , 2. the Remote is so so so so so bad. like just horrible bad...
I would say Samsung pegged back the brightness to reduce the chance of screenburn and to help with panel life. It might also allow them to bring out the 2024 TV with "extra brightness" using the same panel!
Wait, they REDUCED the brightness ?? They said that they increased it by 30% ( the s95b has 0150 nits and the s95c has 1400)
@@RealArtVandelay Not as such. The S95C panel can go up to 1800-2000 nits from factory. Obviously running at that may affect panel life and accuracy. So although brighter than the S95B, it could go higher.
Just to be clear 1600 nits @ D65? You fail to mention that.
I removed my like since I find your HDR brightness measurements suspicious, sorry Charlie.

I agree, Dolby Vision is way overrated and, in my opinion, shouldn't even be a deciding factor in which model to buy.
Samsungs are great until you adjust the volume and see an annoying large OSD popup even when you’re trying to just
Adjust the volume on an amp or something external.
