Hey Zach! I've been a fan of your series and book for a while, and am getting my first puppy in a week! In my neighbourhood during the summer, people use fireworks every weekend. I'm wondering if you have any tips on helping my dog with not being scared of fireworks?
Zak my 10 month old quad breed dog ( mum is a shitzu and chihuahau dad is maltishion ) is coming in season for when they bleed could you do a video on how to keep them calm through a time like this, please and thank you ?
Mcmillian is incredible! We watch his show lucky dog and can't believe what a selfless helping person he is. The book ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfKlzfzw0sMZ_RgZNzMeOPu6d4b5i5XWl has his training methods from both the show and new tricks i had not heard until i got the book. Simple dog psychology and pointers to make the methods stick. Great insight to the thinking of dogs. There is so much more we know now about our dogs. Fear in training no longer apply. I cannot say enough about this book and it's author.
I have been using thisas a handy reference book ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGQVgV21bQ7B9b9duQ1ByImyT9xHbjOKq . I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of.... "how simple why didn't i think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!
I like this guy, he depicts training in a realistic way. Lots of other people show easy tempered dogs and how their training process magically occurs in a few minutes. He really reinforces how this needs to happen gradually. Good stuff
Everyone on this channel seems like total rookie with dogs, walking a dog on leash forms a bond between you and your dog andis the safe way to go. You should only have your dog off leash when training in a fenced off area or property with nobody around unless the dog knows them. I’ve had dogs all my life and they literally want to be on leash and I have Belgian Malinois so don’t tell me their wimpy or something stupid like that.
Didn't realise how lucky I was with my dog. His hardly trained at all, knows sit and high five. His never been trained off the leash or anything, but he always comes back immediately off leash when called. Just him knowing his name was enough surprisingly.
my chihuahua has "questionable recall" on a day-to-day basis, but on hikes and other "open" areas, I can trust her to stay near and come back when called, while off-leash. She can go to a restaurant (outside seating) and she'll always just be near our table and hanging out, and when she wanders off, she comes right back when called. Sometimes, you just get lucky, and get a dog that most people consider "heavy training" and "naturally unruly" but ends up being an easy dog to train. But that doesnt mean people should *never train*. If you don't have time to train basic commands with your dog, then you probably shouldnt get a dog.
She’s such a cutie pie! I absolutely love it when you can see the wheels turning, and the light bulb comes on, and she just gets it! It’s so fun to watch them figure it out! It’s one of my favorite parts of training! Thanks for this informative, fun video! You’re always so good with the doggies! Love it! Hope you’re all having a wonderful day! God bless and hugs to you and Bree, and the fur babies!☺️❤️
I wasn't sure about having a dog but I have watched about a hundred of your videos and they have really helped. You are fantastic with them. The little things you notice and do are crucial to a good training experience. This video is definitely in the next phase of our mini Aussies life.
Loved how you broke down the come when called part and then how to add distractions. What I loved most though was that Athena didn’t listen at first because those are the exact behaviors I’m working with my dog. It was great to see the medications you made right in the moment! Your videos are helpful beyond imagine....As always 😊
I’ve been watching your vlogs for a while but never commented until now, I just wanted to say your love for dogs really comes through and you’re helping me learn a few things before I get my first puppy in September
My dog hates showers but when I take a shower she stands by the shower, and when I open it she comes in and licks the water off every surface and off my legs.
Its because dogs are vulnerable when they go to the washroom. You will notice when they are doing the deed they will stare at you, as you are their protector. When you go to the washroom many dogs will try to remain with you to ensure they are keeping you safe.
I learned more in literally 2min than I did watching about 90% of the long winded trainers who have videos on youtube. Goods hands on demonstration, not just someone staring at a camera trying to sell their training videos. SUBSCRIBED!
I love how he shows the training in a full video. I feel like a lot of training videos show the method on a dog who already has had some experience with the commands.
For anybody wondering the way you walk your dog is also incredibly important! When me and my dog walk she is required to always walk next to me so when we’ve started switching to her walking off leash she is walking next / behind me no problem
I'm late to the video but I just wanted to say I really enjoyed the amount of content in this video, especially the failures. I think seeing your failures is the most important part of your videos and I wish we saw more of them--knowing what you're "supposed" to do or have happen is easy. But failures and miscommunication happen every single training session and it's so valuable to see examples of you working through them and moving on with the training or taking a step back/breaking it down.
Thank you for all your amazing content! We started listening to your book and we can’t wait for our new Rottweilers to arrive. With your training videos and consistent training we know we’ll be good dog parents. Thanks Zak!
Watching these videos reminds me of when I trained my first dog... She is now pretty much fully trained and I'm planning to get a second dog eventually and train them like this again because dog training is so much fun and rewarding. :) I can't believe some people miss out on it completely!
I cant wait to try this with my dog! I've had trouble getting her to come back and listen to me outside for the longest time. She's a very smart girl and knows a lot of tricks, thanks to your channel :) But when she sneaks accidentally out of the house and is off leash she just takes off
I love my Duke but I needed to get him under control, after he bit my MOTHER during a visit I realized I was letting him run amok too much. Between these videos and the Brain Training program ( goodboy°.°today ) ( remove °) he has finally been acting much more like a good doggo. Real test comes in a month... during my mother's birthday party.

I really like your approach to training. I've always disliked those who've told me to do aversion training... My Smudge is my child. He's an energetic 7 yo Chihuahua who just loves people. I just need help training him in certain areas. I've ordered your audio book and will watch all you videos. Thank you again.
Yes! What a good girl. :) She did fantastic with the lesson. I used to have a crazy long leash for my first dog. We lived on 100 acres and used the long leash to work like this, and then let him run around with it attached for a while, because he'd be easy to grab if needed.
Long leash for safety - Associate every recall with something positive and.. That's basically it! (After 4 years I still reward my dog with words every time)
In a few weeks im getting new member of the family, something that will grow upto been big yet clever - i cant wait, I'll be watching your tips to, great video.
This is perfect for me! I'm going to be getting a female german shepherd puppy, and I can't wait to train her with all I've learned from you!

My dog thinks that his name means “come”, but I’m not complaining. He often comes, but not always. If he can’t see me, he’ll come 100% of the time, because he fears that he will not be able to find me

I find myself cheering for the dog when it does the right thing 😂
