@@William_Kenny I have a problem with getting the shape I want for the piece to actually get to the piece. I’ll get there but I’m dyslexic and I have adhd so my head is always doing something weird on me lol. Like I know the shape in my head but it won’t transfer to my hands and chisels. I’ve done some pretty good ones but this is something I try to practice often with scrap prices. They tend to sell really good at the shows. Thanks William!!
Madonna I have a similar problem I find sitting down and drawing the shape and refine on paper first when you are happy with the result cut out template with a scissors and work from that, hope that helps a little happy and safe turning 😀
Great show William. I’m heading upstate NY on Thursday to my shed and try to use up some cedar and apple. I’m suffering from turner’s block so I hope I can get out of it. Thanks again Jon
Hey William Nice job on the use of scraps, I noticed you turned some nice maple handles for your lathe, You didn't record that by chance did you? Would like to see that.
So interesting as always. I know what to do with my small branches now. Thank you for sharing. How do you keep your lathe so clean - or is it still new? 🌞
Nice pieces to be sure, & well done. But I had to turn the sound off to escape the incessant pounding of the repetitious music bed. Why they're still deemed mandatory in videos is a mystery to me.
I made one of these from walnut for a lady at church who turned 85 years old. She still reminds me weekly how much she loves it. Not that it was that great, it’s just little handmade things like these make people so happy. That’s why I turn to this day.
Very true, I made a bandstand clock for an old neighbour of mine she cried when I handed her the clock :) It’s so nice to get a reaction to something you handmade for somebody.
They are all lovely Will but my favourite shape is the bottle in Spalted Beech and favourite wood was definitely the Laburnum. Take care Will. Cheers, Huw
Only just come across your videos William. Got them all saved on Watch Later. Good way to use up the scrap pieces. Lovely job.👍 'Wood' be nice to lose the 'music' in the background.
I usually cut the branches about a metre long and stack upright in my wood store, i leave then to dry for a year or so some will split and end up in the fire wood pile but most are good to turn. 👍😊
Great video William showing that no wood need be wasted! 🙂
Cheers
Mike

Those came out amazing. You make it look so easy.

Love this!! How do you avoid splitting from the pith of the branch? All of my attempts at turning branches have resulted in splits a few weeks later
I usually cut the branches about a metre long and stack upright in my wood store, i leave then to dry for a year or so some will split and end up in the fire wood pile but most are good to turn. 👍😊
