Mistakes NOT To Make While Turning A Classic Vase! - Wood Turning

- A very simple, classic design vase for displaying dried or imitation flowers. I made a few mistakes with this piece but it all worked out in the end. I'm looking forward to getting back to the natural type turnings I like to do, just not quite strong enough, yet, but I'm getting there! LOL!

Ha ha, from the angle where both bark spots show, with the flowers in it, it looked like a frowning alien with a flower hat on. 😂🤣😂🤣😉
I love it!😍😎
All ready for the Kentucky Derby!🏇🏇🏇🏇
LOL!
That turned out lovely. Hope you are feeling better.
Thank you! 😊
If it were a vegetable, it would be a Hubbard squash!! Lovely little vase. 🌺
Haha, OK then! 😄
American Chestnut is a rare piece to turn. The young trees only live for about 25 years before the blight kills them. Only the root systems of the old trees are still living. It would be an honor to have a piece of one of those to turn. You are a lucky man the have such nice friends to send you such a piece of our history.
I am indeed very lucky to have so many generous viewers, Dean! 😊
Those two eyes make it look like a grimpy ET. I like it.
For sure! 😊
Phil, you have been missed. Glad to see you are doing better.
😊
Looks like alien eyes, Phil I’m so glad you are able to creat video’s for everyone to watch.
Thanks, Ronnie! 😊
hey Phil,
a wonderful little gift for a beloved woman. Very nice work, I like it very much. I'll turn one for my wife too
😊
It looks like a very unhappy alien when you hold it with both the bark areas face on, love it.
Cool, thanks! 😊
I can definitely see this in a modern household, awesome vase
Cool, thank you! 😊
Nice to see a project with so few knots, roots & gravel.. Beauty..
😊
Very nice-simple design really accents the beauty of the flowers
Thank you so much 😊
Beautiful vase, Phil. Nice flowers, too!😃😃👍👍 As usual, a great video, my friend. 👍👍👍
Take care,
…..Gord
Thank you, Gord! I'm glad to see you could find time for me this week. Seems like you have been very busy lately my friend! 😊
When I saw the title I thought here we go something is going to go flying out of the lathe 🤣 but all turned out well, nice little vase.
All the best to you.
Regards Jim
😊
Better to learn from your mistakes than our own Phil. It turned out pretty nice in the end.
Haha, I make the mistakes so you don't have to, Veg! LOL
It’s a really sweet vase. I like the touches of bark left! It looks great with the flowers in it. Beautiful!
Thank you! 😊

Lovely either way.
Thanks, Mandy! 😊
Mistakes and all, it turned out beautiful.
😊
...it may be simple, but it turned out great...and really works well with the flowers...I like it!...👍

Classic is good Phil, the larger hole doesn't detract from it's beauty. Take care, John
Good to know, John, thank you! 😊

I love it when I hear that couples watch together. Thank you so much for that, Bunny and Honey! 😊
Another elegant piece Phil! Hope you’re well!
😊
Yes you should have left a bigger diameter to show off more of the bark. Yes you should have drilled a smaller hole. But looking at the finished piece no one who hasn't seen this video would ever know. And I have seen the video and I still like it. 👍👍Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thanks a lot, Glen! 😊
Great looking vase before the flowers BUT WOW what beautiful piece with the flowers 👍🏻 GREAT JOB PHIL Thank you for a great video
😊
Just when I thought I had seen everything....... No bark, no cracks, no roots, no knots, no rocks ......... Phil, you're always full of surprises . Nice vase.

Love the face once you have put the flowers in at 16mins 15 seconds. Love it. Looks like beeker from the Muppets.
😊
I couldn't wait to get home to watch your video. I don't see any mistakes and I think you left just enough bark. Another Wonderphil Thursday! See ya next week.
Love that. "WonderPhil Thursday". 💜😊
Thank you very much, Billy! 😊
Love it phil. I like the simple ones. I many times almost drilled through the bottom. Good save.

Thanks, Hotrod! 😊
Great classical piece👍
Flowers topped it off
Thank you, Luie! 😊
Great teacher, far far too modest. I have never seen one of you jobs turn out bad. If I had a fraction of your skill I would dare to make my own videos, may be I have left it too late.
I must suffer from old dog new
tricks syndrome. Keep it up, thanks
Tim.
I was 69 when I started turning seriously and making videos, Tim.
😊
Hi Phil,
I was 52 when I got my first lathe and enjoyed turning for 5/6 years until I needed to sell it. Then just before Covid surfaced I got my next lathe but could not quite get into it the same. I have kept at it since and now at 75 I am no match to you and doubt if I ever will be.
Cheers
The missile maker,
if you get my drift.
Phil, as always a beuatiful piece out of Shady Achres. You are a migician with a piece of wood and when im big one day i hope to be as half as good as you. Great project 😁👍🏼👏
You can do it, Japie! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop thanks Phil 😁
So simple in its shape but SO elegant Phil. Little bit harsh on yourself regarding mistakes. What mistakes! Simple but beautiful & the grain does work well & is well supported by the Feed n Wax. The size of the opening is not too large & is well hollowed out & the flowers are a GREAT addition. Great piece, particularly for a man on the Come Back Trail after surgery. I think I have told you that I am now just 3 weeks today, post op from a a full Right Shoulder Replacement so I'm right there with you. Take your time my friend, the little simple things will gradually lead you back to the projects you prefer, GIVEN TIME. Stay well my friend, Don from South Aust.
Ah, yes, time. If only I could breathe, Don! LOL! 😊
Simple, elegant, definitely a keeper. Thank you.
😊

Lovely little job, so used to see your work with bark included in your finishes, but you surprised us this time you kept taking it off to leave just a hint of it. looks grand with flowers. All the best from Lincolnshire UK

Cute and simple little vase. I like it! Thanks Phil
😊
Happy Thursday. Nice vase Sir. Thank you for sharing.
😊
Oh man I just love your attitude and creativity! Beautiful piece! Thanks for sharing.
😊
As simple as it is it's still a beauty. Must be nice just to turn something that's not all lop-sided.
It's a nice change but does feel kind of odd, GG! 😊
sometimes simple is more beautiful than extra vagant, nice little vase Phil.
Nice to see that even your "mistakes" turn out well 😉 Grz from Dutch Piet
Thanks so much, Piet! 😊
Looks great and chose some pretty flowers too.
Thank you! 😊 Cheers!
Very beautiful! Would love to have one of those in my living room
😊
Good work Phil,to me they will all be good when you finish.
😊
I enjoy watching this video while its raining 🤗
😊
Thank you for showing this one!! I learned a number of useful things☺️
😊
Very nice! Sometimes less is more and I think that is true in this case.
😊
Hi Phil , thank you for all the impressing videos here at youtube. I am just a beginner , your exemples were really helpful to me. Especially your ' mask and faceshield on' became something like a mantra , since a large piece of magnolia jumped off the lathe ... Greetings from northern germany !
Great, Stefan, thank you and stay safe! 😊
Lovely vase. Love watching you work.
Thank you, Arla! 😊
Very nice vase. Thanks for the heads up on what not to do! Thanks again for sharing your talents with us!
I got a million "what not to do's" Ted, stand by! LOL!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop LOL!
Beautiful classic shaped vase, Phil. Take care. 😊
Thank you! 😊
Another good piece of work. Keep it up Phil, and God bless.
😊
Looks great, Phil. No one would know about the "problems" unless you told them. Every time I watch someone turning, I expect to hear "mask and face shield on" - lol. Take care and I hope you're feeling better.
Bill
Thank you, Bill! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I agree...safety first and thank you for emphasizing that. It's really difficult to continue turning with a chunk of bark in your eye.
Thanks Phil another nice one.
😊
You are right, very nice grain!
😊
Phil,
I can't tell you how much I look forward to seeing your posts each week. I really enjoy each thing you create. Keep on keeping on and I'll pray for your continues health.
Take my friend!
Thank you, Bob! 😊
American Chestnut very hard to find here in southwestern Ontario. Once had many till the chestnut fungus destroyed them. Very pretty vast Phil. God bless you sir.
Thank you, Bob! 😊
Classic is beautiful.
😊
Absolutely beautiful Phil. Wish I could send you a picture of what I just finished working on right now. Anyways happy turning my friend 😊.
😊
Very nice simple project! Just what I need
Great! Have fun with it, David! 😊
Hi Phi., this video is perfect for my purposes. I have a new student I'm introducing to the lathe. Sometimes simple is better. BTW, I like it! Peace..out. J
Cool, thanks, John! 😊
Good job Phil! 💫🪵
😊
Great job as always. I have relocated from Seattle to Maine and I look forward to your contributions. Hopefully I'll be able to start turning in the future.
😊
Very nice! Hope you’re healing well. Wish there was a lot more chestnut out there. Hopefully I’ll get to plant some on my place. Maybe my eventual grandkids will get a chance to work with that wood. Or their kids more likely.
😊
