One of the things that confuses me the most about gender ideology is the whole "Gender is a Spectrum" argument. It implies that feminine men and masculine women are somehow lesser than masculine men and feminine women. I don't like that idea that just because I'm not hyper masculine that I'm somehow less of a man than a man who is traditionally masculine, because at the end of the day, no matter how I act or dress, I'm still a man. Jeffree Star is still a man and Ellen DeGeneres is still a woman.
Edit: To clarify I don't believe that most people who say that gender is a spectrum are genuinely arguing that feminine men aren't men and masculine women aren't women. I also understand that "expression" and "identity" are different things in regards to gender. I do believe that there are infinite amount of ways to express yourself visually, especially in western 1st world countries like the U.S. where people have more freedom. What I don't understand is the idea that being called a biological man or a biological woman somehow restricts your ability to express yourself. We can acknowledge biological reality while still dressing or acting how we want. I don't think we should be creating new genders identities daily just because someone feels a certain way, especially when a lot of these "identities" are virtually indistinguishable from one another. (Ex: Agender and Non-Binary) Jeffrey Marsh identifies as non-binary. There is no biological difference between Jeffrey Marsh and someone like a Ben Shapiro. What makes Jeffrey Marsh not a man? Is it the fact that he wears lipstick and female clothing? Or is it just because he doesn't "feel like a man" and should that really trump the reality that he is a man? Sam Smith is another example of someone saying that they're non-binary. One of the reasons Sam gave for feeling not like a man was that he used to wear a full face of make-up to primary school and had a period during which he didn't own any male clothing. I don't know all of what Sam Smith has dealt with in regards to gender, but I don't think its responsible for someone with impressionable young followers to imply that make-up and certain clothing means that you aren't a man. I think it's honestly more regressive than progressive.
Sorry for the length, I wanted to clarify some points that I could have explained better, but it ended up being more of a tangent of things that I haven't been brave enough able to voice until now.

but gender is a spectrum. masculine women are still women feminine men are still men. if someone says their non binary you dont just say “oh but your biologically male so im still going to think of you that way.” thats just messed up.

    • @bingustime
      @bingustime 10 месяцев назад +2

well you are a man so being feminine wouldn't make you any less of a man. I think your thinking on this issue might be a bit misguided. The belief that someone is not man or woman enough IS enforced by the very strict conservative binary which tells us there are correct and incorrect ways of acting or feeling. Being told you're not a real man or you're not a real woman is a struggle all trans people go through. I don't fully understand what being gender non conforming is but it's not erasing anyone. Most people I've met who are gender non conforming are pretty chill and are one of the most accepting and empathetic people I've met. idk if I made myself clear but honestly I really want to believe there is a way for everyone to exist happily and come to an understanding. It's just sad that we're fighting the same system though each side is ignoring the main issue by turning on each other.

I'm Polish. These two Polish girls you've interviewed are what we call "Julka z Twittera" - because Julia is an extremely popular name in Gen-Z girls, and because it is a repeating pattern on Twitter here. They're absolute fanatics - self-appointed communist and gender ideology activists, who'll get downright aggressive when someone dares to express disagreement. Them talking about "toxic masculinity" is laughable, most "Julkas" are the epitome of toxic. I know, I lived through being with one and talked with more than a few. Another funny thing - plenty of them hide their true colours when trying to find themselves a boyfriend, because they know that their ridiculous views will get them rejected and no man in his right mind will tolerate them unless ensnared first.

@@dmdeester I lost hope for it a long time ago. These woke girls are a plague here. There was a time when I didn't pay attention to them at all. And then, after a bad experience of my own, I discovered the full scale of that occurrence and just how much wrong is there about my Millennial generation and Gen-Z, especially with the women, since they're more influenced by the guilt-tripping rhetorics of wokeism. I mean, I thought that perhaps my view of Polish girls was twisted by dating apps, where the Julka species is the majority. But no, in life - at work - it's the same. Not so long ago, in the office cafeteria, I listened to a conversation of typical Julkas - tattoos, nose rings, etc. One of them was doing a feminist rant, making it abruptly clear that her potential partners had to be leftist "allies" of whatever insanity comes along, and preferably ones loaded with money. Another was talking plenty about that she's bi - nothing wrong with that, but then she started boasting about cheating on her boyfriend with random girls in nightclubs. If not for that I was bloody hungry and had to finish eating, I honestly wanted to leave the room, because my lunch was undecided as to whether it wants to go down the gullet or go out the way it went in.

    • @evanburrows1697

No, they're not literal synonyms. Throughout the 20th century, the English language word 'gender' basically meant "something stereotypically associated with the sex." And it was used to describe behaviour, jobs, tasks, and words in gendered languages.
Hence, sex was biological and was "male" and "female". Whereas gender was "masculine" and "feminine". Up until the 1990s the word gender was barely used by anglophones in day to day life unless you were in a French or Spanish class.
However, as OP alluded to ( _"i just think of it as a less sexual word to refer to what sex someone is."_ ) it did have secondary meaning to a *limited* extent as a synonym for sex for somewhat prudish people. As I once heard a linguist jokingly explain it - "for some people, gender means I'm talking about sex, and I don't mean f*cking."
From the 1990s there has been a concerted effort to eliminate the word sex from usage, and replace it with gender. There have been studies of the frequency of usage of the two words in peer-reviewed papers and newspaper articles, and gender just skyrockets from near-nothing in the mid 90s.
Up until about 10 years, almost EVERY single English language form (government, corporate, whatever) used the format "Sex/Male/Female". (Not to mention all software too.) Yet in just a few short years, almost all forms (and software) have been updated to say gender.
In the earlier days of the internet, people, even (especially) youths, in internet chatrooms would initiate conversations with the acronym "ASL" which meant "Age Sex Location". That too has almost completely disappeared since 2010.
It's staggering how fast and widespread the change has been. It's not organic and we are all being gaslit.
Personally, I'd suggest abandoning the word gender almost completely, and just saying the word sex. Playing along with these word games is what got us into this mess in the first place.

They're right. Around the early 00's, biological sex was DELIBERATELY replaced with the Trojan Horse of "gender" in popular language (and later, in laws, gov't/corporate policy, etc), BECAUSE "gender" is 100% subjective and opinion-based.
Sex = Evidence-based, fixed from birth, with objective, physical criteria (producing small or large gametes; Ova, or sperm). It's a term from the hard science of biology.
"Gender" = Vague, murky, and ENTIRELY subjective. Has no agreed-upon defintion or criteria. It's a term from the subjective field of linguistics.
You only need "gender" to exist AT ALL, if you want to DENY evidence-based sex...
pre-2000, the whole world (even the far left) accepted that pronouns, as well as man/woman, boy, girl etc were all defined by evidence-based SEX, and things worked perfectly fine...
All the current insanity is A DIRECT RESULT of biological sex being replaced with "gender" in our language, in the last few decades...
NEVER adopt the left's language like "gender"; Women and men are defined by EVIDENCE-BASED SEX, not by the vague, murky "just a social construct" of "gender".
There are only two SEXES... Men/women, female/male, XX/XY, girls/boys. Fixed, immutable, and evidence-based...
If the argument is about "genders", then the left has ALREADY won...

its because of peoples confusion of gender. These people who identify outside of the 2 original genders are at constant war with eachother since there is no theory which can explain how they feel there gender, and since there is so many different theories all which seem inadequate. This concept of "infinite genders" really is kinda nonsense, in the sense that people who argue such a thing really mean that gender doesnt hold any strong concrete definition due to sociocultural observation of its malleability and as the way these people feel their gender sometimes feels like a mix of male and female, sometimes neither male or female, sometimes both etc. The idea of "infinity" in this sense just really means "gender is a spectrum" or "gender is fluid" since its defining traits can change

No, I think just most people use sex and gender interchangeably. Sex is typically binary (as we have intersex people) and gender is also typically binary. In western culture a male is a man and a female is a woman but throughout history different cultures have had more than 2. Japan for example had a third gender called the wakashu 400 years ago but they disappeared as Japan westernised.

I think that is what the progressives are doing. They call it "gender identity" and then put the focus on "identity" and go "But I'm different from the others, so I need my own gender identity."

I've always thought this! Like it's not your gender it's just a personality trait. Like if you're more sweet maybe it means your feminine but id doesn't mean you're more of a woman. Your gender is your BIOLOGY. (sex and gender is only different for trans people which is a small minority) How you act has nothing to do with your biology! I mean you could argue that oestrogen makes you more nurturing and testosterone makes you more aggressive or whatever, but it doesn't make you any less of a man or woman. I've always been more of a masculine woman, I've never thought I'm a man or anything, just a bit different.

I live in England, so I'll give an opinion too! :D
    "Is gender a social construct?"
Yes -- but not in the way the social left uses that term. But interestingly enough, just saying "yes" is enough to get you branded some sort of "gender progressive". This annoys me with political tests.
Sex is a biological phenomenon, and gender is the social construct revolving around it, such as the stereotypes and expectations you have due to your sex.
People pretend that there's no link between the two and they're just completely different. "Gender is just how you feel". That's complete nonsense. And there are only two.
"What do you think it feels like to be a man vs a woman?"
I think there are differences due to our gender in how we feel. We have differences experiences, though society is trying to make this not the case.
For example, there is a special impact with women constantly being told that we were discriminated against in history, and that women continue to be discriminated against now (especially in certain countries such as within the middle east). There is a special impact with men constantly being taught they must be strong and not showing their emotions. There are also impacts with the media both genders were raised with, and what our media teaches us and shows us.
"Should trans women compete against women in sports"

Gender and sex are synonymous, regardless of what these people might say. Gender roles and stereotypes may be a social construct to some extent, but gender is not.

In Spanish we assign gender to everything, from fruits and veggies to the moon, the sun and the sky. For sure we know that an apple, a door, a car or a book all lack sexual parts, but we think of them in either masculine or feminine anyway. This sex vs gender debate is really a problem of the English language.

If you notice, they all look at each other when being interviewed to seek acceptance.. they either wait for one person to answer or they look at how their friend reacts to what they say. There’s only TWO genders, and they know it, but they don’t want to say it because they’re afraid they’d look bad in front of others. SAD.
