Disappointing that there's zero comparison on the audio qualities when gaming, for gaming headsets. That would be much more informative than a review of features
FREAKIN FINALLY. Been holding on buying since I haven't found a good comparison of the two. Waiting for packing day to pick one up. Probs go with astro
I have both. Used a50s for about 2 years now and just got the nova pro wireless a few weeks ago. Although I like them both and nova pro definitely had better directional sound for picking up footsteps, the cons of the novas were just to much. The anc mic in the ear cup, the mic sounded like dookie, and voice from discord or game chat sounded like it was coming from a intercom. For the price of them, I didn’t see the worth so I’m returning the novas and going back to my a50s
I actually just picked up the steelseries yesterday as needed new headphones. The battery thing was the main selling point for me but they also sound good, really comfy as they're light and hardly even notice them and they sound pretty good but I haven't tried them on the EQ settings yet though. Plus I do think they look better than the A50's as it looks like a regular pair of headphones since the mic tucks away into the headphones completely
I heard a lot of people are having setup issues on startup for the A50s, I just got them myself and didn’t encounter any problems at all, PC recognised the headset and everything was fine. The only negative I find with the A50 is that you can’t connect the Xbox and PC together at the same time, meaning you can only use one of the other via the USB cable supplied.
Yes the big problem is the firmware update. I had issues when doing that with the dock. It would be nice for them to add dual connectivity to those and allow for both Xbox and pc.
Just got the Nova Pro’s … after having the Arctics 9x I thought I’d be blown away by more sound quality… sound just the same but with more comfort for my head and the leatherette doesn’t itch like crazy after an hour of play. After 350 bucks… and no real upgrade on sound I feel a touch slighted.
I’ve had steels before never owned astros . I’m excited to get some nova pros ! The astros look a lot cooler than the pros tbh . Which to me just means the astros are probably made cheaper lol like who wants to dock their headset every night???? Are we in 2001 ? The dual battery swap is next level for long game nights with the boys 🎉 I wish Astros would step it up like to try a pair out right now I can’t say they’re worth it . Steels have always focused on the high notes in sounds so they’re great for sound whoring 😊
Was legit debating hard between purchasing these two headsets today but I ended up going with the nova pro. Sounds like I made the right choice thank you
I bought these headsets wired after trying out the JBL 910X gaming headsets. Let you tell you the JBL sounded good but not £279 good, the audio was low even at max. These headsets are scary good because you can literally hear footsteps, gunfire, explosions and killstreaks around you and at the same time without losing detail.
I love my A50 but they are a tight fit on my big head over the psvr2 headset so I‘m gonna buy the Nova 7 now which are half the price of the nova pro‘s but almost the same. Active noise cancelling really isn’t worth double the price in my eyes.
Currently I have the a50's gen 3 but battery is dying, i need to buy a new gen 4 or try the artic, what you suggest me ? Also I have xsx and ps5 i would like to use it in bought is that possible with the artic ? Cause wit the a50 i have to decide if xbox version or ps5 version, thanks
Thank you for the great review! I've been looking at getting the Nova Pro Wireless ones, but I'm hoping I can get them at a cheaper price rather than spending the full 350 dollars.
Welcome! Ya the price is the one downside of these. But you are buying the right time as both black friday and cyber monday are here. If they are going on sale, now is the time!
Try Amazon's refurbished program. I got mine for $237 and they were good as new with all the in the box items included. They just don't come in the original packaging. Saved myself over $100.
My A50s lost connection non stop and then the base station stopped working all together. That headset gets a 2/10 for me only cuz it’s got a good build quality and sounds great
I wish I had this video back in summer 2022. I got tired of the charging and battery problems on my used A50s and all the reviews and impressions I could find on the Nova Pros were not talking about the simultaneous wired connection, so I just ended up going back to wired with A40 TRs. Great video
Couple of Days before Black Friday was able to pick up the Nova Pro Wireless for $249 and at that price they are best Valued Headphones you can get. For Gaming they are best Wireless Headphones you can get.
Technically you can connect to 2 devices on the nova's at the same time because you can have your phone connected on Bluetooth while your playing Xbox or ps5 and answer calls
Hi thank you for the review, I have a question please for those who have tested Arctis 9 and Nova Pro Wireless I have the choice to take Arctis 9x which I use on Xbox and which I can use on PC with Sonar with an adapter bluetooh xbox or either buy this Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset. Is it really worth it? Is the difference in sound quality much better? Apparently the chat mix setting is not adjustable on the dac or the headset except on the headset the Arctis 9x if and I can use Sonar on PC. And also the imitation leather which scares me a little. thanks guys
So I’m not quite sure I haven’t use the 9x. But I am sure the sound quality will be similar on Xbox. On pc the pros support spacial audio and not sure if the 9x do. But the extra money is for sure the features of the pros. Extra batteries, noise cancellation. Pass through. Multiple usb. Let me know which way you go!
I've owned the A50's, they were good overall, great sound. But they would pop and lose connection. The Nova Pros have not failed me once. I think they are a great headphone.
I just got the Astro A50…the initial setup was a nightmare. Love them otherwise, but that experience alone makes me want to return them. I just don’t think I could stomach $100 more for the steel series if I did.
@@evanmarch4142 I couldn’t get the headset’s firmware updated properly. Astro’s software from their own website would only update to a firmware release from 2019. I then tried the Microsoft store app of Astro Command Center, which wouldn’t even recognize the headset. Tried to reach out to Astro support and got worthless answers, copy and pasted prompts of “turn it off and on again”. I could tell Astro had no control over themselves anymore and at some point in this Logitech acquisition, Astro and their former product support, got left behind. They simply told me to return the product to Best Buy, with zero help given. I persisted however and tried the ACC app on Xbox to see if maybe it would work. The headset was detected and finally I found the answer of what was wrong, as it showed the firmware version I needed. Going to Astros website, I tried finding the files to update manually, as ACC allows such. Of course however, they don’t exist on Astro’s site. Had to go to Reddit to find the file. Went back to the broken version of ACC from Astros site, and tried updating. Fail. Wtf. Had to then find the little pin button to pretty much wipe the headset. At that point the software allowed me to update to the latest firmware, and voilà, they were up to date and worked finally. I honestly should just make a video about this experience because it was atrocious and I can’t imagine the average consumer would go through such a hassle. For $260+, you shouldn’t have to resort to Reddit to even get the product working.
No these are the older model. They are the Xbox version hence the green. They no longer sell them. Was funny when I was streaming with a green screen those parts would be transparent.
Yiu use these on xbox series x at all? I got a pair of the nova pros when they cam out and the mic had a issue in xbox party chat if the mic volume was over 5 it sounded like I was running a fan in the party and was wondering if that's been fixed if so I'd try them again because they sounded better than my a50s.
Ooof no I haven’t heard of that. I did not buy the Xbox approved version as I was only going to use this for my PCs. Did you have the plug in the right one? I know only one of the usb ports is the Xbox approved just double check that it is the right one and test again. Let me know how it goes!
@@evanmarch4142 yeah it was in the right one it was a known issue. I returned them and been sticking with my astro a50 gen 4 since I returned them. I was thinking of giving them another run but haven't seen ifnthe issue was fixed
I just had the novas. For some reason I kept getting interference from the wireless connection. Soon as I throw my Sony pulse 3ds on, zero issues. I love the novas, the feel is premium, they sit nice on the head even tho a little hefty. That battery is awesome, having connected to my phone while playing is such a plus. Too bad I was getting interference and couldn't seem to get rid of it even after restarting . Back to the store they go.
I just got the Nova's today no interference issues as of yet. I'm kind of concerned now that you bought it up. I had the OG Arctic Pro Wireless ones no issues PC/PS4/PS5. I honestly bought the original OG back in 2018 because of interface issues I had with the OG Astro A50's (5Ghz vs. 2.4Ghz). I got the Xbox versions even thought I would more often use them on my PS5 because it's just an added bonus that they would on an Xbox. I would recommend that version only unless you have not desire to own an Xbox and you game on both a PC and a PS5. I wish it was an adapter, so one wouldn't have to have special Xbox headphones (maybe it is I hadn't done any research). Also they don't appear to work on M1 Macs, which is odd. I don't plan to use them on a Mac, other than to change some settings and upgrade the firmware. I had to boot up an old gaming PC to do the firmware update which sucked. Years ago the software would work on a Mac, hopefully this gets sorted out...
Well I can assure you I have had zero interference issues with mine. But yes, the different versions is silly but that is on Xbox not steel series. I think it is only for party chat I believe they can be used for audio but have not tested. This is something I need to test.
@@evanmarch4142 When I first got the Astro’s back in 2014/15 I immediately had interference issues, but I was able to fix it with adjusting my WIFI from either the top half of 5Ghz, or the bottom half (I forget). In 2017 I moved to a larger apartment, and needed a Wireless Mesh system, which didn’t let me control the bands. I had way to much 5Ghz going on, and the Astro’s wouldn’t work at all. Fast forward to now, I’m in a house with Ethernet in all the rooms, so I’m sure I wouldn’t have issues today. Anyway, this is why I originally went with the Steelseries (because they were 2.4Ghz). The swappable batteries was a huge plus as well…lol
@Jermain Murray Wow ya that makes sense and also I noticed that the Arctis pros can go a lot further in my house without cutting out than the Astros did. And that makes sense as to why.
I recently got the Arctis 9 wireless and I gotta tell you the comfort is terrible the software was constantly recording gameplay and bogging down my pc I had to turn a lot of functions like that off now I’m curious if the pro wireless is the same or if it better goin for the astros cause I loved my a20s the comfort is next level

so the conclusion is they are both very good. its a matter of flavour and taste. Both have aftermarket cups that transform the feeling of the headset. 4:55 you are ill informed sir. wicked cushions are amazing with the nova i can attest for.
I picked up the Nova Pro. Have it hooked up to PC and PS5. But I haven’t tried out the PS5 yet. The swappable batteries and the two sources were a big part of me choosing it. I really like the idea of swappable batteries. Also if years down the line a battery goes bad. It’s easily replaceable. Sadly didn’t see any sales on it during Christmas or Black Friday. So had to stomach the cost.
hello good very good video I would like to ask you a question about the astro A50 generation 4 4 months ago I bought the nova Pro because the generation 4 update stopped working I try to update it stays 75% I have been looking for the solution for months and I have not been able to as an ornament because I can't use it anymore you realize something please explaining thanks
I would try either a different usb cable first. The. I would uninstall the software, reinstall and try again. If both doesn’t work try on a different computer to update.
Does anyone have the sonar app downloaded on a MacBook instead of just on windows? bc I don't see a version and its limiting me for what I want to do ... I have the wireless Novas, MacBook Air and Xbox
No as far as I know it is only windows. Not many companies has taken on the mess that is the max sound system. Apple still has not put in a control panel of any sort where you can control application audio. Only company that I know is Elgato with their lines of wave products.
Wages are much better in Australia. It easily offsets the increased cost. Here in America the federal minimum wage is only $7.25 an hour and in Australia it is $21.38 an hour. Australia is better in almost every way, be grateful.
100% nova’s you can literally choose an EQ for specific games which can boost certain footsteps in different games. I have noticed a huge difference since switching to these headphones.
Biggest con of all for the steelseries is the ANC nub on the inside literally drilling into your ear, I'm so shocked to see reviews not mentioning this as a detrimental design flaw. I'm returning mine simply bcus of that flaw bcus it is SO FAR from a comfortable headset bcus of that
I didn’t mention it in this video, but I didn’t mention it in my original review. I had the same discomfort but fixed it by adjusting the head band. And since I did that I do not have the pain from those anc nubs. Try that before you return.
@@evanmarch4142 just makes it a terrible hoax review when you dont bring up a massive con like that. Majority of ppl cant just adjust the headset to fix the issue and I'm also one of them. Massive design flaw, its crazy that they even went on with it to the market
I’m not quite sure as I don’t have the 7x to test. But I would compare them on a website for specs. I’m sure they are close in sound quality just without all the options of the artis’.
Guys can I get some help I’m in the market for a new headset I don’t care what brand or how much money it cost I have the turtle beach stealth 700 gen 1 but my hearing has gotten a little worse over the years so I’m looking for the loudest headset on the market today. When I say loudest I mean foot steps trying to determine whether the enemy is upstairs or downstairs Call of duty apex thank you
I would have to recommend the nova's due to the ability to change the presets in side the GG to match the game. Or you can even tune the EQ yourself and make the footsteps louder.
Must be a PlayStation problem cause with my xsx they are very loud. I’ve never came close to full volume. I haven’t used them on my ps5 yet I hope it’s not a issue.
The wired Steelseries Nova Pro sound better than the wireless. No doubt. If you’re thinking of buying the Nova Pros and you don’t sit too far away from your screen, consider the wired version.
@@theFoxxx866 Had the MMX300 also at home. For me personaly the nova pro is better. I can hear footsteps better. Don´t know how I should explain it... the nove is a little bit more precize. @@evanmarch4142 yes. another youtuber posted some eq settings. But yesterday arrived the nova pro wired and the epos h3pro hybrid... in my ears the wired version is not better than the wireless... only tested in csgo. but the epos.... damn... out of the box i had never so clear footsteps. i don,t know how to explain, but at the epos the footsteps are so damn clear. i can exactly follow in my mind where the enemy is. it is a lot better than the nova and the rest i tested. i will try to get maybe more out per sonar with the nova, because the nova has a bit more comfort. In the gun fight the steps going down in the nova, the epos is clear as hell and you can hear when you are in a fight, where the other enemys are walking. it's really difficult to describe. but i dont kmow how to set sonar for that clearnes as the epos has.

The swappable batteries and the two sources were a big part of me choosing it. I really like the idea of swappable batteries. Also if years down the line a battery goes bad. It’s easily replaceable.
Sadly didn’t see any sales on it during Christmas or Black Friday. So had to stomach the cost.
Nice ya huge plus with the external battery. But it will worth it on the long run.
hello good very good video I would like to ask you a question about the astro A50 generation 4 4 months ago I bought the nova Pro because the generation 4 update stopped working I try to update it stays 75% I have been looking for the solution for months and I have not been able to as an ornament because I can't use it anymore you realize something please explaining thanks
I would try either a different usb cable first. The. I would uninstall the software, reinstall and try again. If both doesn’t work try on a different computer to update.
Try a different computer I've seen that work for people
Does anyone have the sonar app downloaded on a MacBook instead of just on windows? bc I don't see a version and its limiting me for what I want to do ... I have the wireless Novas, MacBook Air and Xbox
No as far as I know it is only windows. Not many companies has taken on the mess that is the max sound system. Apple still has not put in a control panel of any sort where you can control application audio. Only company that I know is Elgato with their lines of wave products.
Any word on a refresh for the A50s? I don’t wanna buy one and a new version comes out
Nope, seems like Logitech is transferring the tech to their pro line of headphones.
I love the artist Nova pro Are the best headphones I've ever had the only problem with them is you cannot use them on RUclips
What do you mean, cannot use them on RUclips? I use mine, they do work. Any other known issues?
Ya I’m curious. What doesn’t work?
wow ty for the review :D
You are welcome. Are you picking up either pair?
Arctis Nova Pros are currently $750 in Australia, gotta pay that Australia tax
Wow. But that is in local currency or converted to USD?
@@evanmarch4142 that’s local, converted it’s a little over $500usd
Wow that is crazy. But I guess all electronics are like that?
Wages are much better in Australia. It easily offsets the increased cost. Here in America the federal minimum wage is only $7.25 an hour and in Australia it is $21.38 an hour. Australia is better in almost every way, be grateful.
Wow! Is it really. I thought Canada was high with the $15. That trumps us then.
thanks for the great review
Welcome! And thank you for the comment.
For competitive fps shooters like apex. Is the steel better or the a50 still better with the software?
100% nova’s you can literally choose an EQ for specific games which can boost certain footsteps in different games. I have noticed a huge difference since switching to these headphones.
Biggest con of all for the steelseries is the ANC nub on the inside literally drilling into your ear, I'm so shocked to see reviews not mentioning this as a detrimental design flaw. I'm returning mine simply bcus of that flaw bcus it is SO FAR from a comfortable headset bcus of that
These reviews don’t mention it because they get these sets for free just to talk nice things about the headset.
Massive design flaw, its crazy that they even went on with it to the market
could've just bought some wicked cushions. it fixes the issue
I just bought them and my goodness. They are so comfortable! Cannot recommend more.
Is steelseries nova 7x as good as nova pro?
I’m not quite sure as I don’t have the 7x to test. But I would compare them on a website for specs. I’m sure they are close in sound quality just without all the options of the artis’.
Compare this to the new a50 with dolby atmos not the old gen green xbox version . Not a great comparison at all
To be fair. I didn’t really compare the sound quality. I mostly did the features. And the new A50’s don’t add any other feature other than atmos.
Astro got the new Astro A30 wireless....and they are better than the 50's....3 in 1 like the Novas
@Kano Gomez oh dang. Might have to take a look at these.
What chair are you sitting on?
have the steel series... the bass is very mediocre. astro blows that out of the water, thinking of exchanging... sonar not helping much.
Yes that is true. Bass is something the Astros do better.
Yu can do the presets from the nova headset using the volume knob
Yes but still goes through the base. There is no shortcut on the headphones right?
@@evanmarch4142 you can activate the hub menu from the volume wheel and scroll through using the volume wheel. Thats what i mean
Ok. Yes I am aware of that. Thank you!
@@evanmarch4142 no problem. Was just letting it be known. Also stinks you cant use sonar on xbox
Ya silly to this day that Xbox still uses their proprietary audio.
That's a old pair of a50s not a great comparison at all🙄
love the nova
Same. Everything you ever needed in one pair of headphones.
Max volume on the arctis are a joke on playstation 5 even with volume limiter off
What if you go directly on from the controller?
@@evanmarch4142 even worse....
Oooooooff. Well that is a let down.
Must be a PlayStation problem cause with my xsx they are very loud. I’ve never came close to full volume. I haven’t used them on my ps5 yet I hope it’s not a issue.
Let us know if you do get to try them. Could be just that pair.
The wired Steelseries Nova Pro sound better than the wireless. No doubt. If you’re thinking of buying the Nova Pros and you don’t sit too far away from your screen, consider the wired version.
There is a jack on the wireless if you want better sound and don’t mind the wire. It’s the best of both worlds.
@@UofARollTide I wasn’t aware of that. So, thank you. I appreciate you telling me that. Have a good day!
I went for the MMx 300 gen2. From Beyerdynamic
Do they require a dac?
@@evanmarch4142 not necessarily , sound is awesome as is it, but will improve the sound even more
@@theFoxxx866 Had the MMX300 also at home. For me personaly the nova pro is better. I can hear footsteps better. Don´t know how I should explain it... the nove is a little bit more precize. I also had the JBL Quantum 910, HyperX Cloud Alpha, Razer Blackshark v2 and Audeze Penrose. The nova pro was the best of them all.
Yep. Are you using sonar custom eq’s for fps footsteps?
Neither if you’re gaming on ps5.
Get hd 560s at 179.Get a mic for 150.
You’re done.
Astro a50 needs Bluetooth then it would be complete
That would be nice.
steelseries arctis nova pro is the GOAT , I am very impressed because nova pro is Monster of the Headset gaming and phone 🔥👌💕
Yep. Hard to improve the best. But they found a way.
Don't buy A50s.
The A40s are where it's at
But what if they want wireless?
Astro a50 are $249 at best buy now. Sucks you need that stupid adaptor to use on ps5
Ya, that is very unfortunate. So an extra $40 on top of the 249. $50 more for the Steel Series, tough decision!
You don’t need an adapter.
With the adapter u can't run 120fps on 4k so it's trash - use them with usb only
Ya no way giving that up for voice comms.
👍🏾
Thank you!
Those A50s tho… so darn ugly lolol
Ya never was a fan of the green.
