Logitech tuned the A50x closer to Harman, but that could also be done through EQ for the X2s. Physically, they're both made out of the same material. The drivers on the A50x are actually a very lazy refresh. Logitech didn't want to spend the money to change the housing of the old A50s (which were 40mm), so instead they shrunk the graphene drivers to not have to change the headset itself.
@@TheQuickyouknow To be fair I actually thought both headsets sounded good for gaming with very impressive directional audio, the main issue with the PRO X2 was the lack of key features at the price point while looking at competitors like SteelSeries. Really appreciate your input by the way, I feel you have some really good points and will try to look into this further for my next headset reviews. 👍
@@ChickenPopGames cool! I do agree it's really a feature discussion. There are many great headsets out there (Maxwell, Turtle Beach Stealth Pro, etc) so at the $250+ price point it's more about what features you want instead of good sound vs bad sound. For me, the appeal of the A50x is the multi system connectivity (which I don't need), but the X2s don't have simultaneous BT, which is a deal breaker personally since I like to game and listen to podcasts from my phone. Also a shame the X2s don't have the same mobile app as the A50x.
24:10 there are replacement ear pads called wicked cushions to fix that issue. It's more money for a already pricer headset but that microphone is nice to have
Marketing really works. You would think that anyone with common sense can come to the conclusion that a company that just makes headphones can do a better job with the same budget as a company that does it all. i believe its an amazing purchase if u can use it to its full capability. 5:00 is makes me think there might be an HDMI in the future that will be able to use some voice or microphone features now that smart TV’s have microphones on them. LG or Samsung early develop this in China to a different market. Apple could push that with an Apple TV to save/cut costs on the microphones for their own products and then the world to adopt it because of “privacy” but just exploiting TV manufactures(monopolized deal)
In fact, the sound of this headset using the Logitech driver is horrible, even with surround disabled it seems to be activated, you have to remove the Logitech driver and use the Windows generic one so that Dolby Atmos will work, the audio from the headset and the audio from the microphone are a thousand times better without needing Blue Voice.
Without 3.5 mm on Astro arent hight quality headset. a quite nice one like pro X2 with headset pre amplituner event cheap one will always be better thant aby headset itself , and you dont have any problem with connections. As well HDMI pit 40 GB port is not good for PC gameing have you done monitor compatible test? What performance are availble ?
Do you know if you can replace the earbuds on the Astro A50X just like you could on the previous model? Cause if the earbuds are too small for my ears to fit on the new Astro A50X, I could just change them if I could.
for the earpieces it is not a problem for the astro A50X because the mod kits of the old A50 are compatible.... fabric...leather...refreshing...and with the location for the ears wider and taller 😉
@@ChickenPopGames I can confirm, had the pro x 2 lightspeed and returned them due to bad bad bad audio quality ( 16bit depth only, and sound crappy )and got the A50X which I can say is just amazing. Why Logitech pulled that is beyond me.
Hi, thanks for watching. I want to do a gaming set up tour where I could include a small review of them at some point. Keep an eye out in the future. Thanks
Excellent review, like to hear the opinion of someone on our little island too! One quick question: I use multiple monitors for multiple inputs, with each console going to a hdmi splitter that sends it to my TV and monitor simultaneously for wherever I may want to play. The audio is then via USB to a Steelseries Arctic Nova Pro Wireless set. This is a DAC with multiple inputs and I just switch it depending on which source im playing... If i were to forgoe any hdmi inputs on this base station, would it still work; just routing audio for me?
Hi, thanks for watching. 🙏 The base station routes through usb so as long as you can accommodate that you should be fine, you don’t need to use the HDMI inputs/outputs 👍
Hi and thanks for the quick reply. I took the plunge and after a brief setup period and an unforgivable user error I got them all working. 3 inputs for sound, all coming through loud and clear. My 3 hdmi sources intact as was the setup before. Thrilled 😍
Thank you for the Sub! 🙏 They have been released already but been out of stock for a while, I have communicated with Logitech but yet to hear a date for restock. I would like a pair too as I borrowed these from a family member for review. 😢
Got mine today and that dongle Aux thing is driving me insane. It works litteraly with every device i dont want to use it with apart from my PC+Laptop. Game on one while i work on the other. Astro are too expensive tho.. I will probbably get the Nova pros instead.
With the a50x’s can you still listen to music while on ps5, you can on the normal a50’s but wondering with the switching like it is and seen some comments on reddit how you can’t and have to do a workaround. I just wanna be be able to have it on “ps5” mode and still be able to listen to music through my pc, like I do on the normal a50’s
I don’t think you can listen to PC music and Game on PS5 at same time. You can listen to you music from your phone and play PS5 at the same time though 👍
Quick question, can use this headset and ab able to hear from 2 connections at the same time. Like if I'm using my PS5 and my PC, can I be able to hear from both. This is literally "make or break" for me at this point.
The playsync feature allows you to switch between consoles but I don’t believe you can listen to two at once. (Sadly I have had to send headset back now so can’t check) One thing you could try is the stream port 16:15 you maybe able get both working that way. Another option is using Bluetooth as the headset has simultaneous connection, so you could connect PC or Phone via Bluetooth and use Playsync via PS5. I hope this helps, apologies I can’t check for you.
I've had the headset for 3 days. And I just get a headache. No matter what you switch off and put down. It RUNS all the damn time. It stays the same loud the whole time. Unless you also set your voice to be heard. Then the noise is 4 times as loud. Does anyone have a solution. How to fix this? Even if the dock has no power. The headset hisses.
Great question, I haven’t used the nova pros so can’t comment, I did use the previous SS Arctis Pro which I feel were clearer than A50x but I get better directional sound from A50x, I also like the features on the A50x more. For lack of features I wouldn’t use the Lightspeed although the sound is great. 👍
The A50X sounds a little better than the Gen 4, but the Mic is a huge improvement. Exact same comfort and build. IMO keep the Gen 4 and wait until Gen 6 👍
Question, I currently have the A50 Gen 4s. I stream and play on xbox but I set up an audio extractor with the optical port so my headset can be plugged into my PC and can still hear game sound and use my party on xbox game bar. Can you still hear PC audio while the base station is set to Xbox or PS?
Thank you for your answer! I thought this headset was great until i read on reddit that the best wireless headset for gaming was audeze maxwell. But are they performing that bad that even regular people would prefer maxwell over pro X 2 for wireless headset ? What is your point on this and what would be your top 3 wireless headset if taking something else than audeze maxwell isn't a waste of money ? @@ChickenPopGames
@@wingsrose9639I am doing a review with A50x vs Maxwell in next couple of weeks, I would recommend the original SS Artis Pro over the Pro X2 if you can find one. Otherwisex wait out a couple of weeks and Ile be posting up my final thoughts. 😉
Hi, I have a AVerMedia capture card, I deactivated HDCP on the PS5 and it worked perfectly through the hub. I use it through Streamlabs. I see no option for HDCP on the Logitech software.
I think I may have confused it a little on the review. Let me explain, the PC isn’t connected through HDMI, it’s connected via USB A and that’s how the audio comes from the PC(you connect your monitor from your GPU to monitor as normal). What you have on the base station is the option to connect two consoles into the hub and you then use one HDMI cable to go to your monitor. You can the switch between the PC, console 1 and console 2. If you wanted to say connect a PC through the base station then I believe you would be limited to 4k 120hz due to the HDMI not being full 2.1 bandwidth but I haven’t tried this but I’m sure that would be a limitation. Hope this helps. 🙏
Thanks for watching. It supports Dolby Atmos so I’m sure it would support Dolby 5.1 surround sound. It’s only software after all and not built into the hardware. I hope this helps.
Hi mate I just bought the a50x after using my A50 for 5 years. Just so you know - I am returning the a50x as the surround sound is terrible. I have tried using Dolby Atmos but almost no games are supporting it. My previous Astro has the Dolby button/logo on the base station and, for me, sounds 100 times better.
Also a shame the X2s don't have the same mobile app as the A50x.
important to note. the astros have a semi open back design (THIS CAN CHANGE THE FEEL OF THE HEADSET a lottt) the Logitech look more closed.
24:10 there are replacement ear pads called wicked cushions to fix that issue. It's more money for a already pricer headset but that microphone is nice to have
the difference in mic quality is like day and night
I just use my Sony AV unit and plug my Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro's in I don't think any gaming headsets even come close tbh.
Marketing really works. You would think that anyone with common sense can come to the conclusion that a company that just makes headphones can do a better job with the same budget as a company that does it all. You like Beyer, I like Sennheiser, but both are audio companies that give you the best experience your money can get. Only if people knew some 40€ Sennheisers sound superior compared to some 200€+ gaming headsets
@@Shhzhxjsjznxn Exactly!! I find a lot of gaming headsets are a farce tbh I produce, mix and master music with my dt770's too but its just what I'm used too I have tried the sennheiser 650's and I truly don't understand the rave about them granted they are warmer than most headphones and are open back but it's all personal preference at the end of the day 🤷🏼♂️ that's the thing these days people prefer convenience over quality 🤦🏼♂️
audeze maxwell?
Watching this with my A50x lol. It's really amazing
I definitely love my A50X! Best headset I’ve ever owned. The sound quality and mic quality is amazing!
The a50 gen 3 had way bigger earcups and were super comfortable. I love the a50x but why astro keep shrinking the cups down is beyond me. My ears are cramped and i feel it after a while
This was definitely a bug bear of mine, those ear cups are too small. 👍
@@ChickenPopGames I got the wicked cushions freeze pads and they are bigger but there pretty stiff and not as nice as expected.i guess I'll just see how it goes
What about the Bluetooth connection? The fact that you can't take the ASTRO out of the house without the basestation is a deal breaker IMO. Or have i misunderstood?
Great shout, yes Bluetooth can be used away from home but base station will be required for plugging into console or PC.
Just got 50x today my xbox wont recognize mic.
Have you plugged USB cable in as well as HDMI?
i believe its an amazing purchase if u can use it to its full capability. Such as switching between pc and ps5 and/or xbox. or having all those together. making it easy and simple for people to use. not only that combined with an amazing software with pretty good build quality and comfort. i dont think its too bad of a purchase. maybe reduce the price to maybe like 320$
Can’t agree with this more, the price is definitely a bit steep considering you can nearly buy a PS5 for the same price. I’m sure there will be some deals once the hype calms down.
Thanks for watching 🙏
of course, just for now i just believe its not worth the price unless u use it to its fullest extent. if you dont have a pc nor a ps5 there no point in buying it. the logitech g pro is a better buy if you are stickign to one gaming platform. price will probably go down maybe sometime in a year i believe. good review though keep it up earned yourself a subscriber

My gut is the A40X (or what ever they call it) will be the same exact headset as the A40X minus the pass through functions.
I really don’t know what the future holds but this sure sounds possible! Thanks for watching 😊
I have always loved using Dolby Atmos EQ, I’ve found a lot of headsets perform better with it too. Thanks for watching. 🙏👍
Just a thought but couldn’t you just swap out the ear cushions for some wicked cushions ?
You probably can, I’ve not looked into the 3rd party ear cups. Great shout by the way and thanks for watching. 🙏
Do you know if you can replace the earbuds on the Astro A50X just like you could on the previous model? Cause if the earbuds are too small for my ears to fit on the new Astro A50X, I could just change them if I could.
Yes, they can be changed out, I didn’t think of this until I handed them back to my brother after review.
@@ChickenPopGames No worries. I appreciate the reply and the review nevertheless.
for the earpieces it is not a problem for the astro A50X because the mod kits of the old A50 are compatible.... fabric...leather...refreshing...and with the location for the ears wider and taller 😉
Great point, thank you for watching 🙏
Mate, awesome work. I have the previous version of the pro’s and was considering switching back to astro, so this was super useful!
You won’t regret the Astro A50x if you get them. Thanks for watching mate 🙏👍

Thanks
Astro a50 gen4 are great no complaints
Excellent review, like to hear the opinion of someone on our little island too! One quick question: I use multiple monitors for multiple inputs, with each console going to a hdmi splitter that sends it to my TV and monitor simultaneously for wherever I may want to play. The audio is then via USB to a Steelseries Arctic Nova Pro Wireless set. This is a DAC with multiple inputs and I just switch it depending on which source im playing... If i were to forgoe any hdmi inputs on this base station, would it still work; just routing audio for me?
Hi, thanks for watching. 🙏
The base station routes through usb so as long as you can accommodate that you should be fine, you don’t need to use the HDMI inputs/outputs 👍
Hi and thanks for the quick reply. I took the plunge and after a brief setup period and an unforgivable user error I got them all working. 3 inputs for sound, all coming through loud and clear. My 3 hdmi sources intact as was the setup before. Thrilled 😍

Got mine today and that dongle Aux thing is driving me insane. It works litteraly with every device i dont want to use it with apart from my PC+Laptop. Game on one while i work on the other.
Astro are too expensive tho.. I will probbably get the Nova pros instead.
You are right, they are super expensive it there isn’t another headset that offers what it has so I think that’s why they priced it that way. 🙏👍
Whats the current best headset for hearing footsteps in games liek CoD.
P.S you could connect PC via Bluetooth, that could work
Is your “normal a50’s” the gen 4? If yes, how do you have your pc and ps5 connected to be able to listen to both simultaneously?
@@turkialrefai4491 Hi, these are the A50x and not Gen 4's, sorry I cannot help you.
(Sadly I have had to send headset back now so can’t check)
One thing you could try is the stream port 16:15 you maybe able get both working that way.
Another option is using Bluetooth as the headset has simultaneous connection, so you could connect PC or Phone via Bluetooth and use Playsync via PS5.
I hope this helps, apologies I can’t check for you.
With the a50x you can, as long as you use the optical to the tv/ console and regular connection to pc

I have the nova pros wireless and just bought them. Are the LIGHTSPEEDs or the nova pros better?
Great question, I haven’t used the nova pros so can’t comment, I did use the previous SS Arctis Pro which I feel were clearer than A50x but I get better directional sound from A50x, I also like the features on the A50x more. For lack of features I wouldn’t use the Lightspeed although the sound is great. 👍
I have the a50 gen 4, is it worth the upgrade?
Great question but sadly I can’t answer, I may try to get the A50 in the future and do a proper comparison. Thanks for watching 👍🙏
I believe you can use the Stream port within the PC software to setup different outputs, take a look here 16:15

Does the base station for the A 50 X support playing games on higher than 120fps on pc? I am a bit confused on that
I think I may have confused it a little on the review.

Does the headset support 5.1 surround sound as in previous versions? Because I don't see the Dolby logo on base station !
