    I just tried this out with only the bar weight and realized that I feel my upper back muscle groups and side deltoids being fired up. Feels good and I think it helps with posture. Would you guys agree? I am not entirely sure what the benefits are for this exercise but I do have experience with OHP (front).

      +Gabriel Cuello yep, i feel it in upper back and mid delts. I might add it after normal OH presses as a finisher :D

      you d better warm up your shoulders before this if not you can get a serious injury

    • @suffes1
      @suffes1 7 лет назад +6

      Many think it's just good for shoulders and little triceps. But it also builds the upper part of the back muscles, deltoids and trapetzius. That means it's actually good for the top last move in both jerk and clean.

      Military press is mainly for the front delts, behind the neck press is mainly for the side and rear delts.

    I do this exercise but many people say it is bad for my shoulders and I am going to end up messing them up with chronic injuries over time. Is this true or is this an okay exercise to do.

      Eerik Baker hi, hi have problems with my ac joint. I did bench press and front overhead press two times per week for a long time . now there are tendons inflamed or something like that. Have you any tips for me? come it from overusing the Trapez muscle, because its insertions on the ac joint hurts.

    • @dickpiano1802
      @dickpiano1802 6 лет назад +3

      My coach suggests doing them for high reps (at least 10) to minimize the stress on the shoulder.

    • @mattsalvatore3193
      @mattsalvatore3193 5 лет назад +13

      If your mobility is adequate you will be fine. The key is to start light, not load up a weight you would use for a normal military press.

    • @abbaslim9674
      @abbaslim9674 4 года назад +1

      This is true for regular grip behind-the-neck press - they are almost universally regarded as being bad for your shoulders due to excessive external rotation at the beginning of the movement. Klokov presses are fine though because of the wide grip - it puts the shoulders in a more neutral position.

    • @cannonfodder8287
      @cannonfodder8287 4 года назад +13

      Not true at all. Klokov himself started to do this exercise to strengthen his shoulders after he got a shoulder injury for which he had to get surgery for. You read correctly: he began to do this exercise AFTER he got a shoulder injury that required surgery.

    Can anyone explain for me why he does the little dip at the end when the bar is coming down?
    But then he pushes from a dead stop with no momentum off the traps at the bottom..?

    • @09thespecialone
      @09thespecialone 3 года назад +5

      One. To absorb the shock when he lowers the bar on his upper back. And two. A strict press (a strict behind the neck press in this case) is done at dead stop (no momentum involved). That's the correct technique (pressing with good form, with a pause, at dead stop, at the bottom).

    • @ctsd623
      @ctsd623 2 года назад

      He dips for the same reason you bend your legs when you jump. Not dipping is asking for disk herniation.
      If you have trouble understanding why it's necessary to bend your legs to absorb shock, try jumping off a box and landing with straight legs on your heels.

      Alianknight not klokov but to improve stability and strength in the shoulders for the snatch

    • @dickpiano1802
      @dickpiano1802 6 лет назад +3

      According to Koklyaev it trains the side and rear delts which are used when you fixate the barbell in the snatch. For comparison, when you fixate the jerk you use mostly front delts.

      Did he talk about his POV about some people saying that it impinge the shoulder by having ball not properly aligned in socket and grinding tendons? Many people talk against behind shoulders press but others (as Klokov) talks for....

      @@poodlefilmstrailer note how wide his grip is though... couple that with the flexibility and strength of an oly lifter and I am not sure it's any worse than a regular overhead. I wouldn't do it if I was a weekend warrior who never stretches though

    • @coachingconfidant2785

      no their good, just make sure your shoulder mobility and health of shoulders is good and balanced as it should be, and with heavy weight drop the weight at the eccentric portion like klokiv does and absorb with your back. These are klokov presses, but with normal behind the neck make sure to not go lower than your ears just to be safe

    • @09thespecialone
      @09thespecialone 3 года назад +1

      @@coachingconfidant2785 If shoulder mobility is optimal, the bar should rest on your upper back before each press at deadstop either with a clean-grip or with a snatch grip (and it's safe too). To stop the bar at ear level equals no full range of motion.
