Just coming back to comment here after making this for this years vegan thanksgiving... IT’S SO GOOD. Everyone loved it. I have never had Shepherds Pie so I was gambling my entire night on this and so happy I did. Also, thanks for the mashed recipe. It was a huge success. A huge thank you from me and my family.
In a span of a couple hours I went from watching this video thinking this looked good but I'd never make it, to realizing I had all the ingredients, to this could be what my roommate and I eat on Thanksgiving when we DON'T celebrate to hosting a thanksgiving dinner for another couple....and so now I get to amaze some non vegans with this awesome dish !! 😁
I've been making a vegan lentil shepherds pie a lot lately. I've never had shepherds pie until this year but it's so good! So glad to see other vegan shepherds pie recipes like yours. It's more proof that people can make hearty, delicious, vegan meals and vegan versions of just about anything!
This looks yummy! I'm a vegan. My husband is not. We've been together for 20 years! You are actually inspiring him to go plant-based with your videos. I appreciate you! 🙂
If I could shake your hand I would. This was the most comforting meal I’ve had in a long time. Even my kids love it. Just had to get on here and tell you 👏👏👏
I know about stripping Thyme, but I like the term so I'm a dingus! I am so impressed with your depth of knowledge regarding these dishes. You mention deglazing the Fond in this video, add all the delicious additives including wine and broth which makes a pan sauce wonderful. You finished with a lovely fork design not just linear, but the circular rings look fabulous!
I find Dill and Mustard go amazing with mashed potatoes. They take the flavor up a notch. Fantastic recipe and a winter classic I can't wait to prepare. Thanks Dude!
usually we add milk AND butter ;) Usually (I need a lot of that stuff) I just make a pot of soymilk with a soy milk machine, and when it's done throw a big piece of butter into it, and then into the smashed potatoes (I use a similar smasher, but with larger holes, it's made for Spätzle actually, Spätzleboub is it's name, it has longer handles which makes it easier ;))
I love a few of the touches here to add to the one I make! ❤ Absolutely great recipe! I can’t eat soy or wheat so don’t do fake meat, so I use a lot more mushrooms and add a can of lentils - delicious, and no allergy symptoms. 😂
I made this as our main dish for our vegan thanksgiving and it was AMAZING! It is easily my new favorite thing to make. Thank you so much for sharing this incredible recipe ❤🌱
This looks awesome! Gotta make this and it's perfect as I have a family history of Cancer so need to avoid the Heme and BLV in meat. Thanks for sharing
I was gonna make a green bean casserole but I saw this and now I just have to make it! I've never had shepherd's pie but I can already imagine the flavors.
Bro. My meat loving bf LOVES this dish. I do too! I can't count how many times your recipes have saved my butt for holidays or really any time I'm feeding meat eaters. Thanks so much! I can't wait to buy your book too!
I'm going to try this one as it looks more flavourful than what I make. If calories aren't playing on my mind when I make this I sometimes add grated vegan cheese to the top before grilling the top.
I've found with the Yukon Gold there's no reason to skin them, just cut them up and then boil em. The skin then peels off super easy after draining the water.
Ok so I’m a devoted meat guy, but my vegan buddy made me some of these and I enjoyed them, so I guess I’ll make the exception and start using this, besides, some plant based foods are genuinely tasty!
4:40 “Smooth them out and try to make them as even as possible. It’s okay if it’s not perfect”, says the man with the smoothest danged mashed potatoes the world has ever seen. 😂
@@captainsunburn8510 I'mma be honest with you dude, I'm not sure how many places in the US even have sheep, like farm/ranch wise. I think, normally, we get it shipped in from elsewhere. Usually, when I hear about sheep here, they're specifically for wool.
I made this today! I used beyond meat which personally, I think was a mistake. I don't like the flavor that much. However, the mashed potatoes and the filling itsellf is really damn good! I've never had Shepherd's pie so I can't attest how true to the original it is, but I love it and so does my non-vegan family. Maybe next year I'll upgrade it by making my own vegan ground!
Nice Video 👌🏻 But I have one question: Are the recipes in your cookbook done with for example groundbeef made from scratch or not self made like in this video?
Don’t peel potatoes. The healthiest part is just below the skin which is lost after peeling. No reason either since they’re perfectly edible skin included.
@@TheeBurgerDude LOL I used Caps to gets your attention. It worked. Im not vegan. I swear i made this same recipe but i put in some dried mexican chillis in the beyond meat mix

Wow, that makes my morning!! I'm planning on making it for Xmas dinner. So glad it was a hit!!
this is going to be my second year cooking this for thanksgiving

Nice!
I have a feeling this is going to be a go to dish for this winter season
The gravy makes it even more tempting. I may have to make this for Thanksgiving!
It honestly ties the whole thing together! It’s mandatory in my house.

Chickpeas can also be an awesome sub for the ground beef! They naturally have a really nice "meaty" texture.
Yea! Good call!
tvp + besan?

Fantastic recipe and a winter classic I can't wait to prepare. Thanks Dude!
Made it yesterday - no leftovers. My meateating husband loved it and asker to make it again. WOW!!!! Thank you, Dude
I always add crispy onion straws on top of the potatoes to make it next level.

Yummy now I'm hungry 😐 this right here is comfort food for these cold days like this. I'm definitely trying this this 👍

That looks so good! And now it's finally cold outside so it sounds super comforting.
That looks great. Make sure to use vegan Worcestershire though.

That looks so inviting on these cold days.
I was gonna make a green bean casserole but I saw this and now I just have to make it! I've never had shepherd's pie but I can already imagine the flavors.
Honesty they would compliment each other nicely, but I'd rather have shepherd's pie if I could only choose one!

Now that right there sums up comfort food 🍲🙋🏾♀️
Happy Thanksgiving 💜
I made this! it was delicious!

Oh yah! 🎉
Can’t wait to make this.
Thank you
Made this for thanksgiving and my family cleaned out the cast iron skillet. Even my picky niece devoured it 👍🏾 Great recipe 👨🍳
Heck yes! Love it! 👍🏼
The potato ricer is the greatest potato tool since the mandolin and the curly fry cutter.
The way we have been making it for a while we just make the mash potatoes put some veggies and and some lentils it is pretty good
Mmmmm! I love shepherds pie. Minus the mixed veggies.
I think I'd rather add some greens maybe? 🤔
lmao, I just paused a Binging with Babish video to come watch this....that's how good your channel is Dude lol.
Can't wait to give this a shot.
Haha! Thanks!!
Came back on this video to cook the recipe a second time and it was just as delicious 👌👌
Glad you liked it!!
A good old shepherds pie, a British staple, best comfort food dish
This looks delicious. Will definitely be making this soon. Thank you!
I've found with the Yukon Gold there's no reason to skin them, just cut them up and then boil em. The skin then peels off super easy after draining the water.
I need to get a potato ricer!! Looks so good and easy to make.
Ok so I’m a devoted meat guy, but my vegan buddy made me some of these and I enjoyed them, so I guess I’ll make the exception and start using this, besides, some plant based foods are genuinely tasty!
Thank you very much for this!
I made this and it was fantastic 😊. I will be making it over and over.
Glad you liked it!!
yummm looks amazing as always! can’t wait to try it ❤️
thank you for this recipe ❤
Yeah I found what’s for dinner tonight🤣
This looks delish
At 0:24 the potato has a cute smilely face
I got all my ingredients to make this tomorrow!
Nice!
Very interesting dish!
I'd love to see a vegan tiramisu

I can't find vegan wine. Instead of the wine, what should I put in it? Is it necessary to put a wine in it?
big want, awesome job, I wanna make this one for Christmas :)
Mouth watering at the end there! 🤤
Since you went for a 'beef' flavour in the mince, this would be cottage pie. Shepherds pie is made with lamb/sheep - hence the name.
Yup most folks outside the UK don’t know what cottage pie is and there’s no vegan lamb that I know of hence shepherds pie. 👍🏼
@@TheeBurgerDude do american shepherds farm cows?

Pssst! I always add some vege broth to my potatoes! I think it really elevates the flavor ❤
Ooooo that look's very good :0
Can you do cabbage rolls?
Looks wonderful
I will be making this with canned lentils, frozen veggies and instant potatoes 🥲
That totally works!! Not a bad idea!
I mean, that still sounds pretty good. I forget that canned lentils are a thing. Should add them to my canned bean rotation.
Looks freaking amazing

Yum! ❤
Thanks so much for this :)

Nice Video 👌🏻
But I have one question: Are the recipes in your cookbook done with for example groundbeef made from scratch or not self made like in this video?
Thanks. There’s a TVP ground beef recipe and two burger patty recipes in the book. I also have a tofu ground beef video from a month ago. 👍🏼
what plant based meat did you use?
It looks delicious 😋
I like melted vegan cheese on top of my cottage pie.
Dude! You rule!
next time use the handmixer on your taters. easy peasy fluffy mash!
what plant based meat are you using in this vidio?
Last time I was this early my ex got really mad at me
Ha!
I honestly thought that was going to say "I ended up paying child support."
Is there vegan worstecire sauce?
My wife makes this all the time and IT'S DELICIOUS!
Yum 🤤
💗💗DANGIT MAN 😋 💗💗
Yummy
Granted parsnips on top trust me is a killer
Not vegan, I just don't like lamb 😅 Anyway, this looks nice. I'll give it a go
Noice mate
Nice Recipe, but regular Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies or (not specified) fish sauce, so it's not vegan... hope you had that in mind. ;)
Don’t peel potatoes. The healthiest part is just below the skin which is lost after peeling. No reason either since they’re perfectly edible skin included.
I love the skin as well 😊
🤤🤤🤤
Made this tonight. Took a bite then jizzed
Looks amazing!!
This is Cottage pie, until Beyond Lamb comes out.
you pronounce it wuster if you are talking about the sause. and wustersher if you are talking about the place
More munchy meals please!
Thanks for the Vegan Gravy recipe! but Tradition; Shepherd's Pie doesn't include Gravy,,,
'To me rustic just means full of mistakes' 😂
🇬🇧 dish
Made this without the vegan meat and added some Asiago cheese to the potatoes. This was bomb
Worcestershire sauce is not vegan btw. It is made with anchovies
Most Worcestershire sauce is vegan in the US. Only Lea & Perrins has anchovies in my experience.
Shepherds pie has lamb, cottage pie has beef, so this is like farmers pie?
I had no idea people put anything else but butter and spices in mash potato. o:
Dingus😂
I make the fake version, with ground beef & buttery mash.. tastes pretty good tho'.
Oh wow how inventive, fake meat. You could have saved us time by just saying “switch the meat in your favorite recipe to fake”
To much butter!!
I'm sorry your shepherds pie will never be as good as my mom's. But it could take second place
Worcestershire sauce IS NOT VEGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Calm down. Most of it is. Lea & Perrins isn’t. Every other one I’ve seen is.
