I've been taking Hydroxichloroquine for 21 years, to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis. It's not without its side effects. Taking this medication when you don't need it is moronic.

I also stumbled across this great entertainer during the crisis. Please forgive me as I am Australian so I hadn't heard of him. Anyway I get ever so excited when I see a new closer look come up in my feed. He does the best impersonation of your lunatic leader. I assure you all that the whole world is in disbelief as to how your leader has and does conduct himself. So about hcq: i think trump is stupid but impossible for trump to have financial interest: the drug has no patent. Sanofi produces it but so does novartis, bayer, etc basically every big pharma can do it for pennies. It costs 5 euros a full box and margins are close to zero therefore novartis already stated they d give it out for free. On the other hand the CDC taking interest in gilead's drug is very strange (no study with control group), costs 8/900usd per patient..
NYT did an article about french researcher didier raoult (the guy who discovered gigaviruses/ has the inserm price which means next step is nobel) and quoted 3 doctors criticizing him: all 3 are on gileads' board... strange indeed.
I studied in Boston 20 years ago, was a big fan of washington post and NYT, now it seems it all became political and american journalists on both sides have a very very strong bias which is very sad

This virus has exposed vulnerabilities in our system around the world; however, the US system was long vulnerable (too many examples to list) long before this outbreak. It just made it magnified it by 1000x economily, politically and socially.

@@murrayflewelling1258 hydroxychloroquine is not available over the counter. It is a prescription medicine in Europe and the US. This is because it has some very nasty side effects. There are plenty of drugs that are licenced or that are not "safe" for everyday use because when you prescribe as a doctor you have to make a risk/benefit analysis. Hydroxychloroquine is great if you have (for example) lupus. But if you have certain heart conditions, kidney or liver damage, or any eye problems you wouldn't get it, even if you had lupus, because chances are the hydroxychloroquine would make those problems worse, possibly killing you. In Europe, the licence says that doctors should do regular blood tests as well for something called "agranulocytosis" which is where you stop producing white blood cells (part of your immune system - the drug affects the immune response which is why it's used for lupus) and then you are at risk of massive infections from bacteria. When you start the drug you need a lot of blood tests but if you are stable you can slowly go down to once per year. Same thing with your kidney and liver function tests. This isn't a safe over the counter medicine. It has a long list of cautions and contraindications and you should only prescribe it if you are happy that it will be less harmful than the disease it is being used to treat. A healthy person taking it is at too high a risk of having the drug make things worse for them, especially as there's no evidence it helps with covid-19 anyway.
