Finally somebody who doesn't just talk about how EA ruined the series for the entire video.
The ironic, misinformation spreading video made by an obnoxious random that gains over 500K views by jobless, nostalgia-drunk losers whose entire personalities more than likely consist of nothing but anti-capitalistic views they gained from endless Twitter browsing, or just generally (and understandably) have a massive hate boner for EA.
Fr that's all people be talking about in some of their videos
YESS
Are they wrong
Yeah, actually. EA didn’t do most of the things that people hate but blame on them (i.e. adding microtransactions, BFN being unbalanced and feeling rushed on released)
Garden warfare was surprisingly amazing. I remember spending definitely over 500 hours grinding it as a kid.

Pvz is honestly a perfect name. There's no pun or nonsense, it simply tells you everything you need to know. Even a name like fruit ninja can confuse a person because it can't not only be read as you're the ninja who slices fruit or it's a game about a piece of fruit that is a ninja. An actually well made GW3 would be so good because it would be great to have multiplayer alive again for garden warfare. Also, great video.
They may be developing a Garden Warfare 3. They released Garden Warfare 2 on Steam around May this year, no real reason was given as to why, but many speculate EA’s interest growing in the Garden Warfare series again.

im 15 and as a kid my cousin would always be playing the warfare game, he was really into pvz and i even have a character spreadsheet of me as a corn that he made at that time, last year he gifted me the original game on steam and i fucking love it, im almost done completing all achievements to get 100% of the game done, it makes me so sad how they screwed up with the franchise and how i was to young to experience the initial hype

i am about your age but i fortunately got to experience garden wafare in all of its glory, i got the gw 1 on pc on 2015, played the hell out of it, got gw2 on release but it didnt run on my pc so i got it on ps4 on 2017 and played the hell out of it
i also got bfn a few months after release on my pc... i kinda regret it since it became free on the ps plus and development dropped less than a year after release

Playing pvz gw2 with the boys late at night was such a mood. Probably some of my favorite memories. I loved that game so much
GW1 and 2 were actually such great games, especially with how GW2 added this whole PvE base map with a bunch of quests and secrets allowing you to earn more coins. I installed it just recently to check if I could find a game but to no avail.
not sure bout gw2 but gw1 pc still has one filled lobby during main hours on EU and NA
The video makes me feel sad about PvZ’s current state. I grew up with PvZ and am still playing BFN to this day (not a bad game at all and pretty underrated). Here’s to hoping that the future can bring us some hope for the franchise.
Bfn isnt a bad game. Just a terrible sequel to gw2. Removing the variants was the biggest downfall of bfn
@@shadow_king12344 imo, removing the variants was the best part it did. I hated variants a lot, but for some reason everyone else loved them.

It's genuinely saddening to see how this series has fizzled out into obscurity. Garden Warfare 2 was absolutely peak gaming. Me and all my friends would play that game every day after school. Everything after GW2 was a blur, the series just started dying out, and nobody was playing it anymore. I am upset that I completely forgot about PvZ until this video popped into my recommended. Farewell PvZ, you were a major part of my childhood, and I will always cherish the memories you have given me.
I still play PvZ 2, it's very addictive, despite the micro-trasactions you mentioned. They keep on adding new plants to it, after so many years. Wouldn't that make PvZ 3's development slower?
No, development isn’t slower since they have their own seperate teams working on the games.
admittedly, the new plants added aren’t the same quality as the ones it has had from the start
and the new plants are actually free
mmmeh...it seems like they're so focused on PvZ 2, specially after the newest update. The devs seem comfy with their current pattern of "add new plants every whatever months", "add new 4 days battle events", "fix bugs". They could be adding new worlds to it, I'd be happy.
EA is not known for creating new games off of acquired franchises..
8:35 bro started speaking alien

It'd be cool to see a follow up about how the Chinese games fit into this.

I grew up with this franchise and I started playing last week or so, great games and a great video.
pvz 1 will forever be in my heart
Absolutely
It has the best art design out of all 3. To be honest, I want to see some PVZ2 and PVZ3 plants with PVZ1 design like Lightning Reed, Bamboo Shoot, Bonk Choy
All these games throughout all these years, and the first one is still the best
i remember the feeling of playing pvz2 late at night, I don't think any game will ever give me such a feeling ever again
Even though there are so many versions out there I still plays the first one on my phone the game made my childhood😊
they did indeed turn them into plants
My mom really loves the original PvZ, I taught her play in 2012 and still today she still play it. She used to play on our old laptop but now she got a phone she play the game in it.
aww thats so cool man
That's so cute! I teach my mom play it too! She still play it on phone, and I play it on laptop and we still talk about strategies. She more good than me in Vase minigame , to be fair😂
09:46 wait, this one is from my singing monsters, that one character incisaur
“The sequel didn’t really do anything extremely different than the first game” -Shaii (about GW2)
I beg to differ.
GW2 did so much different than GW1.
It changed the menu from a regular menu, to the menu being an actual map, known as backyard battleground.
Added a new gamemode, known as herbal assault, which is the opposite of gardens and graveyards.
It added new characters, gave the game an actual Campaign, and made me so hyped when gargs appeared.
(Only true fans know who gargs is)
In all, it changed everything, most of it for the better.
But then BFN showed up, and took a big dumpy shit all over the rest of the franchise.
Hate ea, not pop cap.
hate popcap, they develop the games, ea just publishes
Maps in GW2 were pretty bad tho.
i swear i always thought pvz adventures was just some fever dream i had. i have vague memories of it but could never find the game, it was uncanny learning that it actually had existed this whole time
As someone living in the Philippines when PvZ 3 came out in our region, I played it for about a few days then uninstalled it. Sure enough they listened to some level of criticism- sunflowers re-added, landscape mode, more levels, but it still felt very barren and cashgrabby. At least PvZ 2 was playable to completion and had much replayability with endless modes and events, but here it felt like the game was holding your hand all the way through and there was no variety, essentially ruining the strategy aspect as well.
Perhaps it was good that the game was taken off the store for an nth time, seems like at this point Popcap/EA are trying to trial and error their way through this one, but I feel the main issue is they're changing too much to try and be original or pander to new audiences, like with BFN. The future is uncertain but Ill be waiting with open arms and knife to the front.
I still play PvZ Heroes, I love that game so much. It's surprisingly strategic and it takes a lot of planning to make your cards work.
At 11:20 when he said ''who knows whats in store for the future of plants vs zombies'' i was like well nothing has changed :(
4:58i remember playing it like 3times but I got sad when I tried to play it and found it got shutdown
Contrary to popular belief, the acquisition of popcap by EA did more good than harm
And surprisingly, the microtransactions were planned to be a part of PvZ2 before EA bought PopCap, and EA barely tells PopCap to do anything, yeah they may tell a few programmers to work on an EA game instead (which happened and led to BFN not being that great) but at the end of the day, PopCap are practically free to do what they want.
To me, I just see pop cap as following the tides of the casual market, simple as that

9:51 *DUN DUN DUN BUM BUDDABUM* NOOOO!!!
Wanna say, this was a refreshing video to watch, purely because the sequels were mentioned with an open mind. And yknow what, yeah! Most of the sequels are great! PvZ 2 is a fun romp, though a bit heavy on the microtransactions (also had a crazy difficulty spike while it was still adding worlds lmao) but it felt like a natural next step for the series, Garden Warfare 1&2 alongside Heroes were unique takes on the series that people really enjoyed!
It’s only been with the release of Battle for Neighborville and PvZ 3’s various testings that the series is going a little… downhill. I’m shocked 3 hasn’t released yet after all this time but, bah, what do I know.
Great video mate! Hope to see more like it :)

@@GamerboyZun Yeah, but it's still kind of annoying
Man the Warcraft 3 custom game scene has inspired massive franchises like PvZ and has created entire video game genres like MOBAs. Blizzard gave people the tools to create some amazing things and players were better off because of it. But it is all the more of a shame that Blizzard’s current state has drifted so far from that image feels like a shadow of its former self
Gotta love these history of the entire world spinoffs
Please, don't let this game die. Not yet.
the issue with PvZ3 isn't that it's necessarily bad, it's that it's a SEQUEL to PvZ.
Arguably. One problem that surrounds modern game culture is rising expectations. Here, we have a game which comes from a fantastic franchise that is loved by many, making expectations higher.
On the other hand... yeah no, pvz3 is just a mediocre mobile game at heart.
@@scotterboi9 personally i don’t mind the gameplay, my issue is that it is literally a Scapes game now.

Ima be honest 2009 - 2014 was the best versions loved playing it back then :D
I have to disagree with what was said about plants vs zombies garden warfare 2. It wasn't just pvzgw1 with more characters. It also added an engaging hub world and a surprisingly fun campaign. However, where the game really shined was with its secrets. Some of my favorite gaming experiences are with grinding out the trials of gnomus or finding a hidden golden gnome until eventually opening up the first part of the vault. As well as all that, the tower defense mode had received a huge update with you now being able to play as zombies in grave yard ops. They also added a new game mode that played similar to a tower defense in the form of infinity time. Finally, the events were loads of fun. around once a week, the town hall would open up and you would be able to play some sort of exclusive game mode whether that be robo cats vs robo dinos or, my personal favorite, the "raid bosses". there were four incredibly challenging bosses that you would only get a chance at once a month. During these times you would grind up your XP multipliers in preparation for the fight. Out of the four bosses, I only beat two in my 600+ hours of game play. Needless to say, the game had much more depth than the original. Battle for neighbor ville not only lost the character varients and stick packs, but also the depth in secrets which was a much larger deal for me.
Yeah backyard battleground was awesome
That amazing 🤩 thank you for sharing this video to us !

Wanted to make this, but you beat me to it. Kudos to you my friend
You forgot to say that in PvZ 2, the players never got more content, the chinese version had a little more to it, but what really was giving the fan base hope were the mods, cause cmon no one normal could ever get a plant to level 20 just by playing the game, the only way was spend money or get one of the modded versions that had evething unlocked for free.

The change in pvz 2 where instead of unlocking all the worlds at once to getting them one by one in order is really my only problem with the game
I mean at launch you could unlock any world you wanted woth 1 boss key. Then you could only play it in order (of release) for a while, then you could unlock every world at once, and now you play every world in order of difficulty

I like how plants fight different types of undead like mummies that can place ancient curses or vampires
That can turn into bats etc
George fan initially thought that players would wondered why soldier could not move and help other lanes. So he decided to use plant because it's easier for players to realise/accept that once they are placed, they won't move.
