Ahh i'm so sorry! The pain will go away before you know it. Just stick w/ softer foods for the time being & take whatever medication you take for a regular headache. It will pass soon =] You're on your way to a more beautiful smile every day that passes!

Okay so I just got my spacers and to be honest it all depends on your pain tolerance. I got two spacers one on each side of the top part of my mouth, towards the back. Mines personally didn’t hurt but then again like I said before, it all depends on your pain tolerance. Also don’t be scared…I was terrified but i was overthinking it. Btw it’s going to feel weird but you’ll get used to it eventually. I hope this helps!!❤️❤️

It's not just pain tolerance. You have to realise that the levels of pain being experienced by people are different. Some people have very closely packed teeth, making creating space between them very difficult and painful. For others, it's a lot easier. I have a high pain tolerance but the spacers I have in right now are incredibly uncomfortable and I'm unable to eat anything. The orthodontist putting in my spacers actually struggled so badly to fit in the spacers he had to call in the head orthodontist to do it because it was so tight, there was virtually no space between my teeth.
I’ve had my spacers for 8 days now. There was a lot of discomfort the first days and finally day 7 it didn’t “hurt” anymore (just pressure!) but I maintained a soft diet primarily the whole time so far. Those gummy vitamins were tough though!

If your anything like me, you are here because you're nervous about the process of getting spacers, and I just wanted to share my experience to maybe help some people :). Firstly, everyone saying the pain is unbearable is a little worrying. However, even as someone with low pain tolerance, it really isn't that bad. It may be a bit uncomfortable for the first day or so, and a bit painful too, but just make sure not to put pressure on them and you should be okay. The pain itself is pretty uncomfortable when your teeth are messed with, but certainly nothing as bad as getting a tooth pulled. Just make sure not to put any pressure on your teeth and everything should be okay! The process of getting them on is also quick and painless, only around 5 minutes. Make sure to just prepare some soft foods for the following days and you should be good! Also take some basic anti pain meds like Aleve or Tylenol. Hoped this helped a few people!

I got my spacers today & they are hurt the first few hours but after that it doesn’t hurt at all. You can’t eat the same foods you would usually eat but try noodles because they helped for me :)

I remember when I had spacers put in, it was extremely painful the first few days, but getting my braces hurt even more than spacers the first few days of having braces Edit: also, my teeth were more sensitive to cold then they usually are, I have a sensitivity to cold in my teeth, so it’s warm stuff that relieve my dental pain
Day one: it doesn’t hurt at all😄 it’s a little uncomfortable but totally fine!! Day two: i woke up crying and I hate everything about life (took me ten minutes to eat a banana so if that gives you any idea of how sensitive my teeth where) and it’s like 10:30 now and all I’ve eaten today was a banana, mashed potatoes and apple sauce anyways I’m gonna go to bed and update you tomorrow 😩😭😭 Day three: much better! I took some pain killers this morning and haven’t felt anything all day, kinda I can’t chew or touch my teeth and all I’ve been eating today has been smoothies, BUT I ate a babell cheese wheel thing I just used only my front teeth
Im saying it hurts soooo bad. When they first put them in it was very thick. I went home to take a nap and boom i was in PAINN. And i have to have them in for a week😭😭😭😭 it does not feel like popcorn

I got mine yesterday. I have 10 in total, I thought it was REALLY gonna hurt but it's not that bad I mean it does hurt but its more so uncomfortable but bearable.
If you Hispanic like I am I got spacers yesterday and here is a food you can eat this is soft: Tamales they are really soft and really good I hope this helped 😊
at first mine were uncomfortable, then a few hours later my teeth felt loose and weird (wanted to pull teeth out) but didn’t hurt. then more hours go buy and one spacer hurt really bad and i accidentally but down on food really hard. felt like my tooth fell out then i put my tooth back in and hit it with a hammer. very pleasant as you can imagine :) that was 30 min ago
I got spacers yesterday and got a total of 4 (2 on each side) and they hurt really bad! I didn't think it'd hurt this bad but let me tell you this IT HURTS TO EAT. I am also a deep sleeper but the pain broke my sleep many times in the night. I took some medicine and they are helping but it still does hurt a little. Hope this helps some people but remember that what I felt doesn't mean everyone will feel it. Also it feels like something is stuck between your teeth!

I had a LLHA for four years as a kid, and there are two things I remember vividly: how awesome my orthodontist's gameroom was (it had air hockey and a Gamecube!) and how fking horrible spacers were. I need braces and might finally be getting them at 25, and spacers are the things that I am dreading the most.
Can you put spacers/separators on the front teeth? When I was young, a dentist (a bogus one a suppose), told me I could get retainers to straighten my teeth even though my front 3 teeth were over lapping/crowded. Couldn't afford braces back then so I went for it. So while in the process, he kept filing my teeth every visit. Eventually I just stopped going since my teeth look like its been chipped/cracked. Now that I'm planning to have braces soon, I just want an opinion how I can get my teeth back to its original shape. I know I would need veneers/fillings but since 1/3 of my 2 teeth has been filed down, and its overlapping, I don't want to end up with an uneven, small 2 front teeth (right), next to my 2 front teeth (left).
Space can be made also by proclining or leaning your teeth forward. This will be done in the braces and I dont think any more / much more filing will be necessary on your lower teeth. I would express this concern to your next orthodontist so that he/she knows and does not perform much more IPR on your lower teeth

I just got spacers like less than 10 minutes ago and so far they don’t hurt. They only feel like pressure when they put it in but they don’t even feel like they’re in my mouth unless i bite down. Let’s hope the don’t hurt later on.

alex hennel - Hi Alex, I’d give your orthodontist a call and have him/her take a look at it. Rest assure that even if they do get embedded in your gums, we should be able to get it out. Best bet is to have your orthodontist take a look though !
Hi Erin - Great question! Once all the teeth are on the same level & the rotations are out, that will likely be around the time you get a power chain to help close space! It's totally OK to not ever have spacers / bands. Many orthodontists use brackets on your molar teeth instead. It's totally dependent on the docs preference =]

Just wondering, I have spacers in right now and put them on in the morning, getting them out tomorrow morning, so does that mean I am getting the metal thing? Coz she just said I needed space in my teeth and I'm gonna do extractions. She didn't tell me that I'm gonna get the metal expander thing in my molars. I;'m getting top braces tomorrow tho.
Generally whenever we use spacers, we follow them up with the "metal things" =] There are definitely other uses for spacers but the main reason we use it is to make space for us to be able to fit the metal rings.. Keep me posted!! Congrats on getting your top braces!

I had spacers for 3 - 4 days and i just had pain killers after coming from the orthodontics because i knew the would hurt and i was just doing fine with them and now i have braces :)
Damn these braces.. But I would say these braces are far better than rubber spacers.. i did not have the excruciating pain on my 2nd or 3rd day.. I just had soreness in my premolars and molars which happens only when I bite into something..Today is the 4th day and I got my jaw pain.. The brushing part is always a complete nightmare for me... I miss those days when I can brush without looking into the mirror..But I would say braces are fun, especially while you see your final result! So who ever is reading this, if you have decided to wear braces, please don't think for a second choice, just go on with it! The only pain I had when the braces where applied to my teeth were when they attached the metal spacers, OMG that was so painfullllllllllll..

Spacers made my life a living hell. I took them out after a few days and luckily my orthodontist was still able to put in my bands with no issue.

Great suggestion! Making sure you brush and using mouthwash around the spacers to keep them clean helps a bunch!

Day three: much better! I took some pain killers this morning and haven’t felt anything all day, kinda I can’t chew or touch my teeth and all I’ve been eating today has been smoothies, BUT I ate a babell cheese wheel thing I just used only my front teeth

Im saying it hurts soooo bad. When they first put them in it was very thick. I went home to take a nap and boom i was in PAINN. And i have to have them in for a week😭😭😭😭 it does not feel like popcorn
@@bitchhey4300 exactly! It’s not popcorn it just feels like.. well a rubber band lol!! But I’m sure you’re doing great, I got my expander and braces a month ago and let me tell you it’s actually less painful so as long as you get through this I’m sure you will do just fine!! Good luck!

Ugh i just got 6 spacers on the top of my mouth and it feels like someone is stabbing my gums. I haven't eaten solid food for days it hurts so bad lol

Wow, a lot of people are talking about how painful it is, mines are just a little sore, but getting my braces tomorrow.
I got mine yesterday. I have 10 in total, I thought it was REALLY gonna hurt but it's not that bad I mean it does hurt but its more so uncomfortable but bearable.

When i got spacers to me it felt like I had a big popcorn piece in my mouth but it hurttt and all I did all day was sleep to get the pain away😂

Spacers are so painful and I hate the feelings
at first mine were uncomfortable, then a few hours later my teeth felt loose and weird (wanted to pull teeth out) but didn’t hurt. then more hours go buy and one spacer hurt really bad and i accidentally but down on food really hard. felt like my tooth fell out then i put my tooth back in and hit it with a hammer. very pleasant as you can imagine :) that was 30 min ago
Just got my spacers today 2 up top and 4 at the bottom we shall see how this goes...I get my braces next week

I got spacers yesterday and got a total of 4 (2 on each side) and they hurt really bad! I didn't think it'd hurt this bad but let me tell you this IT HURTS TO EAT. I am also a deep sleeper but the pain broke my sleep many times in the night. I took some medicine and they are helping but it still does hurt a little. Hope this helps some people but remember that what I felt doesn't mean everyone will feel it. Also it feels like something is stuck between your teeth!

I just got eight of them today, it hurt a bit when they first put them in, it’s been about four hours since then I’m fine and the best part they stopped hurting after five or ten minutes.

same. i got my spacers on 11/25. got them taken off 12/4. i can easily say they did not hurt (maybe i already had enough space). i just got my braces put on today and i feel pressure/tension but no pain. i was told the real pain comes around the 2-3 day. idk but so far so good. my cousin and brother got braces and they were in pain after only 4 hours after getting them. i hope i’m not jinxing myself into any pain (btw i got my braces on only 14 hours ago). hopefully the next few days to come treats me how these last 2-3 weeks have!

I had a LLHA for four years as a kid, and there are two things I remember vividly: how awesome my orthodontist's gameroom was (it had air hockey and a Gamecube!) and how fking horrible spacers were.
I need braces and might finally be getting them at 25, and spacers are the things that I am dreading the most.
I had rubber spacers last week and they weren't bad. Now, this week, I have 8 metal spring spacers and boy do those things hurt!!!

I started my spacers today and the pain is unbearable 😞 but Its probably because I keep bothering them.
Can you put spacers/separators on the front teeth? When I was young, a dentist (a bogus one a suppose), told me I could get retainers to straighten my teeth even though my front 3 teeth were over lapping/crowded. Couldn't afford braces back then so I went for it. So while in the process, he kept filing my teeth every visit. Eventually I just stopped going since my teeth look like its been chipped/cracked. Now that I'm planning to have braces soon, I just want an opinion how I can get my teeth back to its original shape. I know I would need veneers/fillings but since 1/3 of my 2 teeth has been filed down, and its overlapping, I don't want to end up with an uneven, small 2 front teeth (right), next to my 2 front teeth (left).
Space can be made also by proclining or leaning your teeth forward. This will be done in the braces and I dont think any more / much more filing will be necessary on your lower teeth. I would express this concern to your next orthodontist so that he/she knows and does not perform much more IPR on your lower teeth

I just got spacers like less than 10 minutes ago and so far they don’t hurt. They only feel like pressure when they put it in but they don’t even feel like they’re in my mouth unless i bite down. Let’s hope the don’t hurt later on.

alex hennel - Hi Alex, I’d give your orthodontist a call and have him/her take a look at it. Rest assure that even if they do get embedded in your gums, we should be able to get it out. Best bet is to have your orthodontist take a look though !

Hi Erin - Great question! Once all the teeth are on the same level & the rotations are out, that will likely be around the time you get a power chain to help close space! It's totally OK to not ever have spacers / bands. Many orthodontists use brackets on your molar teeth instead. It's totally dependent on the docs preference =]

Youre going to do awesome. Just try and keep your expander super clean ! Best tip I can give you =] in addition to turning it as your orthodontist prescribes, of course!

Coz she just said I needed space in my teeth and I'm gonna do extractions. She didn't tell me that I'm gonna get the metal expander thing in my molars. I;'m getting top braces tomorrow tho.
Generally whenever we use spacers, we follow them up with the "metal things" =] There are definitely other uses for spacers but the main reason we use it is to make space for us to be able to fit the metal rings.. Keep me posted!! Congrats on getting your top braces!

I had spacers for 3 - 4 days and i just had pain killers after coming from the orthodontics because i knew the would hurt and i was just doing fine with them and now i have braces :)
Damn these braces.. But I would say these braces are far better than rubber spacers.. i did not have the excruciating pain on my 2nd or 3rd day.. I just had soreness in my premolars and molars which happens only when I bite into something..Today is the 4th day and I got my jaw pain.. The brushing part is always a complete nightmare for me... I miss those days when I can brush without looking into the mirror..But I would say braces are fun, especially while you see your final result! So who ever is reading this, if you have decided to wear braces, please don't think for a second choice, just go on with it! The only pain I had when the braces where applied to my teeth were when they attached the metal spacers, OMG that was so painfullllllllllll..
