Clarks edgelord alien phase in season 9 is a direct reaction & oscillation from his previous idealization of humanity. He himself says it in the season 8 finale that he put humanity on a pedestal ignoring their flaws which is why he oscillates by trying to behave like a dispassionate alien.
Season 9 is my favorite season. I'm glad Tess is getting her own video, because to me, her redemption arc highlights what I love most about Smallville - that Clark's greatest power is his kindness, and his belief in others.
Bro, you gotta do a whole episode on the Justice Society story. THAT was one of the best representations of them I've ever seen, they did my Boi Hawkman particularly well in Smallville....

About a year ago now I posted a pic of Shanks in the Hawkman costume with his helmet off to the Stargate subreddit with the title "Anybody remember that time when Daniel had to go undercover as a Horus guard?" Still one of my highest upvoted posts ever on Reddit.
Really? Ratings dropped for it? Cuz this was probably my favorite post-Lex season of the show. As a whole, I actually rank Seadon 9 relatively high. Had the perfect blend of the CW drama and the superhero stuff. Honestly the only thing that really holds the show back at this point is it’s budget. As with every long running show, things get more expensive, and it’s clear the show had bigger aspirations than what the budget allowed. Zod himself was a great villain, and we had some really cool standout eps, particularly with the JSA. And damn, it was great to see Clark and Lois really come together as a couple
I think Lex leaving after Season 7 affected the ratings in general. Though I do agree, Season 9 was amazing, might even be my 3rd favorite after Seasons 5 and 2, with Season 10 on 4th.
Season 9 is still one of my favorites. Honestly glad I'm not the only one. Absolute Justice remains one of my favorite episodes to revisit of the whole show
Season 9 was definitely a great season of Smallville. One of my personal favorite seasons. After all Clark is in a dark place after season 8, and actually has a reason to wear a black suit with the symbol of the house of El. He just lost his faith in humanity because Davis killed Jimmy. Then he has to deal with Kryptonians and the possible end of the world, while also dealing with finally being in a relationship with Lois. Zod definitely has a more complicated relationship with Clark in this season, and it's very interesting. Clark is dealing with a clone of Zod that comes from a point in Krypton's history when Zod was a war hero and not the general that played a role in Krypton's destruction, but Clark knows the person Zod becomes. Then Clark learns in a future without Lois that treating Zod like the villain leads to a lot of bad choices. With Lois back in his life and a chance to make different decisions, Clark does try to give Zod another chance, even seeing parts of Zod that he can relate to. Unfortunately, Clark's best efforts were for naught, as Zod was sadly already at the point of no return when he was cloned, all because of a falling out between him and Jor-El. This leads to another reason why I like season 9. We finally get the definitive Jor-El of the series in flesh and blood that isn't Terrence Stamp who voiced mostly Jor-El's A.I, or Tom Weilling being a teenager Jor-El. I honestly think Julian Sands did a good job as Smallville's Jor-El, and we get some more insight on Jor-El, his history with Zod, and some interaction between Jor-El and Clark, even if it was a clone of Jor-El and tragically for a short time. It definitely had an impact on Clark for the rest of the season. In fact, even though Clark couldn't get Zod to see reason and stop his attempt to conquer the Earth, it wasn't all for nothing. Clark was able to connect with his Kryptonian roots, while also regaining some of his humanity and faith in humanity. Clark's faith in humanity wouldn't be fully restored until the final season. Oliver being brought back to being a hero was definitely a highlight, even though I am not a fan of him being in a relationship with Chloe. Regardless, I am glad that Chloe was able to get out of her dark place because of Oliver, even if I wasn't a fan of her actions this season. I definitely enjoyed the Absolute Justice two-parter which definitely did a great job paying homage to the JSA and the justice league, while also hinting at Lex Luthor's return to the series. The season 9 finale was also a great way to end the season, even if the cliffhanger had unnecessary Jesus imagery. Clark at least saved Earth from Zod and gave the Kryptonian clones a chance to have a new home elsewhere.
Michael Shanks as Hawkman as not Batman was just a delight. As a huge Stargate fan, it was so cool seeing him in this. Any chance you'll cover the Stargirl series?
For me I think smallville worked best when it was what I imagined the elevator pitch was a show about superman in high school. I hold seasons 1-4 as my favorite and 1-6 as good television.
7:55 lmaoo you almost got me there, I was like "..what??" But you're right, they kept their essence even in an established relationship and that's one of the reasons why they're one of the best TV couples, along with their long slow burn and great friendship basis.
0:50 to be fair, this is Season 9! No show running for that long can sustain ratings forever. Especially when it's live action. Other hot shows might inevitably crowd it out.
Loved season nine one of my favorites! Love this adaptation of Zod, especially In sacrifice. So many memories watching this on a Friday night. Excellent video
I really love this season! It's probably my favorite, followed by 10. I've actually heard a lot of people saying they like this season, but not everyone of course.
This season was great. Clark working through his dark period after leaving his humanity behind was important for him to do before he could become the solid rock of inspiration he is as Superman. I wasn’t sure about Zod in the beginning of the season but he really grew on me and became a great character. The romance between Clark and Lois was a fantastic display of the superhero struggle as it showed how Clark’s dual identity prevents him from being truly happy but is necessary to keep the ones he loves safe. First Lois fell in love with Clark, then Clark fell for Lois but at the same time Lois grew feelings for the Blur. So although Clark and Lois started dating, he couldn’t have all of Lois’s love. I’m glad Lois found out the secret herself instead of Clark telling her because he knew it would be selfish to tell her himself. By the end of the season, I thought Clark was ready to become Superman. In the finale he showed strong leadership with the proto-Justice League, he got the Superman suit from Martha, and Clark made the ultimate sacrifice to stop Zod. Clark saw his destiny as Superman from Doctor Fate’s vision and was ready to embrace his role as Earth’s protector. The finale was incredible. But Chloe was unbearable throughout the season.
None of them are awesome. Both their actors are so annoying, both Batman rip offs. One's a complete nuts and the other is an arrogant douche who is more at fault knowing his co-star was in a sex cult.
This was the video I was looking forward to the most. I HATED this season when I was 12. I thought it was dull as hell, the dark trenchcoat over an actual colorful costume made me upset, and I thought Callum Blue was terrible as Zod. But rewatching it at 26, I actually really liked this season!

I agree that seasons 8-10 are very nostalgic especially 9 for me. My peak childhood phase was just starting where i was just a happy kid with no responsibilities and endless entertainment with movies, shows, and video games. I really think 2000s kids might've had the best childhoods. The internet and social media hadn't fully blossomed into the intoxicating mess it is today, the entertainment industry was still alive and well with more studios having creators with passion instead of greed, and of course the topic of this video, smallville ran for 10 years and partly contributed to superheroes becoming mainstream
He reminded me of punisher wannabe in outfit he wore as blue in season 9 but with symbol instead. I liked that outfit he wore and wish it carried in season 10 with red trench coat and blue shirt and jeans again but but with superman shield on it. Not red motorcycle jacket we got and denim jeans and blue tshirt.

I'd love to see you cover Legends of Tomorrow. It became far and away my favorite arrowverse show and I'm still sad we didn't get the next season that promised Booster Gold
Season 9 was definitely the better season after seasons 1-3. Clark and Lois become officially a couple, Zod becomes the best villain after Lex and Clark is pretty Superman, just missing the costume and the name
When you want a Smallville video you get one Season 9 I always thought was great even if the JSA stuff is kinda dated Smallville still rocks can't wait for your final video for the last season hope you can make a Lex and Clark relationship video and a Clark and Lois vid would be great too love your stuff man especially your animated justice league unlimited vids been here since your first upload of your Captain America video keep up the great work dude
The worst part is the switch from film to digital in S8. 8-10 look so glossy, they look worse than the last few Saw movies. Someone should have gone to film school before becoming a DP.
Something like that. He was found by Lionel who was looking for Clark on the day the meteor shower happened but Clark ended up being found by the Kents. Years later, Davis becomes an EMT in Metropolis where he discovers hes a monster thats been killing people in the city.
Season 9 was the best of 8/9/10, maybe better than the SAG strike season 7. 8) kept Lana around far too long, and the Davis Doomsday ending was frustratingly terrible. 9) Callum Blue did a great Zod (and came back in 10), the JSA was an opportunity for the "Arrowverse" (but didn't start until WB/CW cut the Smallville cast payroll, best story of Lois finding out about Clark on her own. 10) Could have been better if Tom was willing to do more Clark to Superman growth on screen, and not a slow burn season with the biggest villain Darkseid turned into a ghost, but suddenly Clark does one of the biggest Superman acknowledgements pushing the planet Apokolips away from earth. The best part of season 10 is mirror Clark Luther and Lionel Luther's return.
I never liked this season. Honestly every time I do a rewatch without fail, I stop at Season 9 ep 6. After that I gotta go to the 10th. I respect the massive amount of love people have for it though, Is just a "me" thing, I hated Zod.
Season 9 is definitely my least favorite season of the entire show. I gave up after season 7 as a kid and I only just recently forced myself to finish it. After season 6 the show lost its WB charm and to me became on par with a lot of the superhero shows we have today, which I recognize some people love, but it lost the magic of what made Smallville so special.
I hate most prequel shows because of how literally everything needs to be half-assed in order to fit with continuity. Can’t have X villain show up, because they don’t exist until the future, so they have a low quality ripoff you’d get from Wish. Can’t have character progression, because that would conflict with that’s shown in the future. Ultimately nothing important can ever happen because it would conflict with what’s shown in the future, making everything done a complete waste of time.
This season got me so bored. I stopped watching every episode and just did it with the ones where some character from the comics would appear. I actually liked the one with the dark archer and the lore they stablish Ed with the secret organization that trained Oliver. I liked the Justice for all, but Icicle Jr. wasn't a great for to make everyone join against him. I loved the fact that, despite not liking him, Hawkman recognizes and treats Oliver as the leader of his generation. That season finale was the biggest let down i had since Matrix Reloaded. You show all the kandorians writing Zod's emblem around the globe and an screen with every hero who had appeared on the show saying they're ready to fight (and you know Luthorcorp has literally tons of kryptonite in storage) and then simply not. Just remembering that makes me mad!
Justin Hartley had so many good scenes in this season. Then, of course, he got his own spin-off with Chloe and Mia....s#!+.. nevermind. Would have been cool, though.
To this day it still amazes me that I finished this entire series, as it was such a slog. Granted it was often in the back ground while I was doing something else.
Bro, I didn't feel Lois and Clark love story... like not at all.. at best it gave me an incestuous vibe like two buds ending up together out of boredom or because there was no one else around. And as much as I find that Lois Lane to be fun and funny, I don't think she ever established a real connexion with Clark... and Clark, well, it's worst: in the second part of the series, he is more stoic more emotionless... As much as you could feel how deep were his feelings for Lana, every time he speaks about Lois romantically, I am like "what the hell are you talking about ?"
For me, strongly disagree. The Lois and Clark relationship was more fun and romantic, while also being more deep and real. I fully felt the connection between them in their words and their eyes. But we all see different things in what we're watching, and can have different impressions from it.
Ollie really did have the best lines in this season. "Clark Kent's hosting morning television? I can't wait to watch him show me how to bake a cake."
*chuckles* "Little jellies."
Absolute Justice is also basically the prototype for the Arrowverse crossovers.
Blueprint.

I was wondering, what would Clark, Chloe,Lana, and Pete former classmates would think about everything they went through post high school.
Clark treated Lois like crap. Lois should never have hooked up with him
Everyone the black trench coat clark wears with the white superman symbol is his black and silver suit from the comics when he fought doomsday.
To be fair, they moved Smallville to Fridays. Of course the ratings dropped because of Friday night commitments. Still the best season.

The best part of season 10 is mirror Clark Luther and Lionel Luther's return.
I feel like there was a missed opportunity for some Whitesnake during Lois's segment.😂
I always liked when lois rubbed it in clarks face that she had a date. They should have done it a lot more.
Listen to me well.
I love you.
Period.
These videos give. me. life.
Are the earlier seasons of Smallville going to get a deepdive?
I hate most prequel shows because of how literally everything needs to be half-assed in order to fit with continuity. Can’t have X villain show up, because they don’t exist until the future, so they have a low quality ripoff you’d get from Wish. Can’t have character progression, because that would conflict with that’s shown in the future. Ultimately nothing important can ever happen because it would conflict with what’s shown in the future, making everything done a complete waste of time.
Wish you would review Smallville Season 11 by DC Comics that Brian K Miller did. It was so damn good.
I hope so.
Nah, Callum will always be my favorite junkie reaper.
Terence Stamp is Zod.
Should have just killed doomsday
Wait! -- no mercy?
(Pretend someone on this show screamed NO MERRRRCYYY! in reply, it probably happened sometime.)
hold up.. that kneal thing? was that Attack on Titan salute?
They’re actually making the letter Z when they kneal with their arms
All he had to do was wear the suit
Season 9 was great. But i have a feeling ratings dropped because folks were just tapped out.
BASED
What’s the song at the end of the video?
Просто кайф.
Justin Hartley had so many good scenes in this season. Then, of course, he got his own spin-off with Chloe and Mia....s#!+.. nevermind. Would have been cool, though.
Arrow!!!!!!
I don't understand that ratings drop season 9 is 1 of the best seasons of smallville. It's better than season 8 and 7.
The red Queen never worked.
To this day it still amazes me that I finished this entire series, as it was such a slog. Granted it was often in the back ground while I was doing something else.
Err.......
First
What a show. Thank you for doing these recaps I’ve been watching for so long. And take all the time you need for them taking time of your uncle. 🫂
