Clark always smiled when he was with Lois. His whole face lightened up when he was with Lois. You never saw that with Lana. Lana was boring. She was always getting him to talk about his feelings. What are you feeling Clark. She was so annoying. She should have been gone after the first season. But she was on it for 8.
He was enchanted by her! He didn't realize a crush was supposed to be that free and easy, so he covered it up with sarcasm and "dislike." Such a well written slow burn romance.
Yeah. I've been enjoying the new Superman anime ( _My Adventures with Superman_ ) and the _Superman & Lois_ show and their interpretations of Lois, but Erica Durance is still my favorite Lois so far.
He was freer with Lois than he was with any other potential love interest, which is why they sometimes got on each other's nerves. He always had to be careful around both Lana and Chloe, because he was afraid of shattering the perfect image he had of Lana after he himself put her on a pedestal, and leading Chloe on because of her feelings for him and jealousy/protectiveness over him when he hadn't figured out how he felt in return yet. With Lois, there were no expectations to meet so they got to be completely real with each other, and after learning who the other person truly was, ultimately fell in love. Sure, they were both clowns, but I'd buy tickets to this circus
Liked how he was always mopy, walking on egg shells with Lana but crackin jokes, generally just having fun with Lois. That was a good little juxtaposition
I love their chemistry. I think Lois was an incredible addition to the show, before she got there everyone else in the series revolved around Clark but Lois shows up as this force of nature that Clark has to try to keep up with until they eventually start to revolve around each other.
I loved in the episode Hex when Clark was acting so freely with who he thought was Lois that Chloe was genuinely really taken aback by how happy he was. It just goes to show Lois can bring out something in Clark that nobody else can.
Clark was never truly happy with anyone else. There was always something holding him back or getting in the way, but with Lois he was completely and utterly himself.
“I can’t stand her” then dude proceeds to stare her in the eyes for 30 seconds straight like it’s an everyday thing🤣I’m on my way to watch this show now!
I think it's the other way round. Lana tried to push Clark into being the man she wanted him to be. Clark knew that, too. In S5 she calls him childish and emotional. In her S8 arc there is a scene where she sees him in his work clothes for the first time, and compliments him on the man he's grown into, and his face lights up because finally, he's the man she likes. Lois pushed to figure out what kind of man he was underneath, and liked what she found. Lana hindered his development by pushing him in the direction she wanted. Lois helped him develop by pushing him and rewarding him when he pushed back, asserting his boundaries.
i think my favorite part of their early dynamic was that it was as if they had an unspoken pact to hate each other forever and that committment in itself was a bond. The scene at 2:05 is a good example like it's such a meta moment in their relationship in that they're actually creating a joke together about their hatred for each other and equally enjoying it. It's so funny to me.
I did like Lana and Clark for the first few seasons but after awhile it got old and a little annoying. I much preferred Clark and Lois after she was introduced on the show. Its also due to the fact that I like the trope of "they can't stand each other but deep down they care."
@@deathstarstallion I think second was a bit too early but once they broke up in series 5 they should have never got back together. If I was writing it I would have had Lana become a recurring character rather than a regular one and they could have had her discovering Clarks secret too at one point.
I like that once Lois came along Clark got to have a lot more character development in parallel with his love interest(s) rather than it revolving around her. Lana was very much one of Clark's driving motivation alongside saving people whereas seeing Clark openly dislike Lois and rush to her rescue just the same does more to highlight his moral compass than their relationship. It's good character writing, which Lois received as well because her role in the plot wasn't to be the new Lana.
I never wanted Lana to like leave really but I wish her and Clark had what Lois and Oliver had. A friendship after the breakup. I know Lois is meant to be with Clark but her and Oliver relationship was great and their breakup heartbreaking. When Clark and Lana broke up I was cheering cause I was annoyed. Oliver and lois had a great relationship and friendship
You and me both, it was a breath of fresh air from all the Clana dramas which I was tired of after season four. It was always fun times to see Lois and Clark bickering and all. I would've loved to see more of them then all the boring Clana dramas.
The reason these two worked so well was because unlike Lana, Clark never had Lois on a pedestal, and Lois never pined for Clark like Chloe. Their banter and methods of getting on each other's nerves actually opened the doors for true chemistry because there was way more honesty there. Unlike Chloe/Lana, there were no pretenses that had to be maintained and as they fell in love, it was the entire person... flaws and all. But man, that dunking booth? 2:39 You can see it right away: real chemistry, and it was more than anything with Lana/Chloe, because neither Lois or Clark needed to keep the other at arm's length! When she tousled his hair, it's the biggest smile he gives in the show!
The dunking booth totally sealed the deal for those two. You got more pure joy in that smile from Clark than anything he'd expressed in the prior three seasons.
@@bad71able Yup, even Chloe noticed it! She glanced between the two of them with a certain look, like of disappointment I think because, obviously, it shows that Clark could never love her the way she wants
When Clark Kent meets Lois Lane, literally everyone knows they're going to end up together. This show made that relationship feel so natural even though it was completely inevitable, and they had really great chemistry.
He went from "I can't stand her" To "I can't live in a world where you don't love me" 😂❤ Once i saw someone saying they didn't have a good romantic chemistry, not as much as him and Lana. And ok, maybe that's true in some level, when it comes to pure physical chemistry(althought i think Lois and Clark had too) these had such better interactions and overall a better arc then him and Lana ever had. Not to mention, i mean, they are Lois and Clark, everyone who knows their story knows they are perfect for each other cause they give what the other need. They as couple are extremely better, not just to each other but to themselves, they grew so much together. They had an amazing dynamic that just stuck with you even years later and even Clana fans admit the drama and the long, just exausting romance, even at their best, when with Clois...it was all easier a lot more drama-free, they were all about being there for each other, and after all this time that's what we remember the most about them.
Honestly, with Lois and Clark, they’ve gone through so many level/phases in their relationship: foes, frenemies, friends, desk buddies, lover, family. The slow burn, vague yet clear insinuations, their never failing in denial moments. I love how these characters grew so much together. Their chemistry IS over the roof so idk why people say they dont have chemistry because atp if chemistry was a person, it’ll have to be lois and clark.
I think Clana never could get past the immature first love phase. She wanted things from him that he wasn't ready to give, while Lois was patient and waited for him to come to her. They built their intimacy from the ground up. and she's the one person he realized he couldn't live without.
I never liked Clark and Lana, she was so annoying. But Lois is a firecracker and she made Clark come out of his shell they were also my favorite together
Lana is actually set up as an unreliable character in the first scene she appears in. She's talking to her boyfriend, he walks away, Clark falls at her feet, and IMMEDIATELY she begins flirting with him. That's her role, being unreliable. Whereas Lois is always loyal to the men in her life, as well as to her friends. I do think it could have been worked out better for the viewers, and I suspect there was some politics involved behind closed doors as to why the Lana arc didn't follow its natural conclusion more clearly.
The chemistry of the two of them crossed the screen impressively. And it makes me very angry that in season 8 Clark left with Lana, but I feel that it was because he thought that Lois did not see him as more than a friend because of what happened in episode 5 of season 8.
I think it was because she asked him why all these horrible things kept happening around them. Chloe has just told him that she's felt like a weight was taken off her shoulders, referring to when he made her forget his secret. He wanted to protect Lois. He reiterates that when she returns, and he does this alternate time line where he tells the world his secret. When he resets time, she is quite crushed at the realisation that he won't tell her again, and he tells her that he won't do it because she IS special. He then tries to stay away from her, standing her up and never confronting what is between them. He doesn't want to break her like he thinks he did with Lana. Lana on the other hand is already far gone, he can only hope to maybe save her by being with her, as she can no longer be protected.
I think deep down Clark and Lois knew they started to like each other here, but didn’t go further with it because he was still in love with Lana and didn’t proceed things Lois, but the chemistry was very real already there!
Will be forever grateful for this edit for turning me on to Smallville! What a beautiful couple these two made❤. Finished binge watching the series a couple of days ago and now I have no clue how to move on from this show and the characters😢.
They both liked each other from the beginning of their relationship. I felt Lois always fought her feelings coz of Lana but Clark liked her like a good friend. Their chemistry from the beginning was special.
This was so perfectly made!!! I'd been craving Clois banter especially from the earlier seasons and this video made me cackle like a hyena. I'd love it if you made a second part.
Smallville made me realize that Superman is my favourite superhero, and honestly 80% of that is because Superman has Lois Lane! Honestly, she is my fav Lois! Just freaking iconic! Love her and Clark, specifically in this show!
I think tom welling said that years ago because of the Clark /Lois restrictions mandated by DC/WB(that was lifted after Superman Returns was released). Or for him not to be bashed by a certain rabid fandom who shipped his Clark character with miss secret and lies . But tom welling on recent interviews in conventions, always emphasize that Clark and Lois has a more mature relationship and connection compared to the other ship. Which is very true indeed.
I love (in a bittersweet way) that part right a|ter the dunking when Chloe looks between them & is the first to realise, but is also thinking: "Really? Anyone but me? She's my COUSIN, for god's rake!"
I don't think I've ever watched a show that I absolutely loved both love interests of the main character. Of course everyone has their favorite but Kristen and Erica both had such great chemistry with Tom.
Lois Lane (specifically Erica Durance) absolutely saved Smallville for me. She was a breath of much-needed fresh air. I was over the Clark-Lana thing and these two kept it fun, interesting, and sexy for the next seven seasons. I will always give Margot Kidder her flowers but Erica is my favorite Lois (as Tom is my favorite Clark -- Henry Cavill and Christopher Reeve battle it out for my favorite Superman but Tom is the best Clark).

May I request a similar video showing how their relationship developed from this banter to the more romantic and tension filled moments? ex. Lois friendship-punching him vs Clark catching her arm and them staring intensely at each other, i think in S9?

That they had a love-hate friendship. And I say had cause obviously now they love each other towards last couple seasons

May I request a similar video showing how their relationship developed from this banter to the more romantic and tension filled moments? ex. Lois friendship-punching him vs Clark catching her arm and them staring intensely at each other, i think in S9?
I don't want to make promises because I really never know which videos I'll actually finish but it's definitely an idea I had too :)
@@lesbianscully of course! I just threw it out there in case it could inspire you, but absolutely do not feel obliged or anything! I just really loved your video and I think you would do such a good job with such a prompt, so I had to give a little suggestion 😂 but no pressure, truly! thank you for even just considering the idea 🥰
Makes me want a rewatch. damn it.
Please make more of this ❤
