I stay out too late
Got nothing in my brain
That's what people say
That's what people say
I go on too many dates
But I can't make them stay
At least that's what people say
That's what people say
But I keep cruising
Can't stop, won't stop moving
It's like I got this music in my mind
Saying it's gonna be alright
I never miss a beat
I'm lightning on my feet
And that's what they don't see
That's what they don't see
Players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate (haters gonna hate)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Heartbreakers gonna break
Fakers gonna fake
I'm just gonna shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I, shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I, shake it off, I shake it off Кино
I don't care what anyone says, Smallville was a great show to me. Even when the story was meh or bad, the actors/characters were always good. I mean, I always say that the biggest reason to watch seasons 1-7 is Lex. He's like a reverse Zuko from Avatar. Truly really good.
Bingewatching the show and just finished season 4 and yes Lex is one of the big reasons the show is as good as it was. He and John Glover are a great foil to the decency of Clark and his adoptive parents.
Story was top tier
I would argue seasons 5 and 6 were when the show was at it's best. It did not really mature until after Clark left highschool.
@@henrypeters5291 *its
when a character goes from good to bad its called a 'Negative character arc", fun fact!
Anyone else wonder what Smallville would have been like if it didn’t force itself to stick to the rule that Clark doesn’t become Superman officially until the final episode and instead it was allowed to transition itself into a Superman show?
Definitely think the second half would have improved. I still think he wouldn't wear the costume until maybe Season 9 or 10 even if they could get away with it (not to mention that they just couldn't logistically do the flying effects every episode), but being able to build to him going public and then getting the rough early years that lead up to Metropolis having faith in him would be dope.
I do agree that the Clark/Lois dynamic was such a breath of fresh air and breathed life into the show. After Rosenbaum and Kruek left; Clark/Lois, Tess and Ollie became the shows bright spots.
We’re getting spoiled with two uploads this week
Clarks pining for Lana when he couldn't have her, and mature realisation of when he had to let her go, is something that everyone has either felt or experienced. The show unpacked its viewers emotions. One of the reasons I think it was so successful.
No, Clark's pining for Lana is what nearly ruined the show. Lana was a good character right up until season 4. By season 5 she became a drag on the show, and Clark's pining for her when he had Chloe Sullivan and Lois Lane by that point made Clark look like an idiot.
i’m very excited to talk about seasons 9 & 10 because season nine is THE BEST season of the show with the best seasonal villain of the show and season ten is lovely!!!! i mostly just really want to talk about LOIS and CLOIS because they are my everything!!!!!
Ideally, the show would’ve ended with Clark moving to Metropolis as a reporter and would’ve reunited with Lois. Then it could’ve led into a theatrical movie where we finally see Tom in the suit and a full scale rivalry between Superman and Lex
That sounds great but Tom Welling would never let that happen
@@autobotproductions1244 actually I think he kind of wanted to be in Superman Returns based on some things he’s said
@@dynaguy3 from what I’ve read about Smallville he never wanted to don the suit
Every time the topic gets brought up, he has been firmly in the no camp. It's only the last 5-7 years his opinion has softened on it.@@dynaguy3
Smallville should have ended after S4/5 and the show could have been rebranded into Metropolis. Smae exact episodes, just two different series.
This is how I’ll always see it. 1-7 is Clark story 8-10 is superman origin
Smallville can really be divided into three individual segments -
Seasons 1-3: The more simple years. Clark and Lex are friends. Lionel is the clear villain. Pete is Clark's best friend. Chloe pines after Clark and is emotionally insecure, fairly emotionally fragile, and innately emotional in general. Clark loves Lana.
Seasons 4-7: Clark still loves Lana. The breakdown of Clark and Lex's relationship. Hints of and then Lex decides to become ruthless. Lionel decides to become good. Lana's experience being drawn in by and deceived by Lex in a romantic relationship. DC comics elements or aspects originating from said elements are sporadically, and increasingly introduced. Lois brings her own spunky, sassy, fairly abrasive energy to the show as a side character. Chloe is Clark's best friend.
Seasons 8-10: Chloe is still Clark's best friend, but due to personal experiences, she becomes a fairly closed off, somewhat ruthless, strategic mastermind, who follows her own path in a sure of herself fashion, lessening the trust in their friendship. Clark proactively pursues being a superhero. Clark and Lois work at The Daily Planet. Clark and Lois experience forming a romantic relationship. Many DC comics aspects are introduced, and the formation of a group of superheroes occurs, with Green Arrow firmly becoming Clark's best superhero friend. There's a "Big Bad" DC comics villain each season, and Tess is a scheming side character.
Seasons 1-7 were dragged down by Lana. She should have been gone by season 5. Seasons 6-10 should have been Superman's origin.
What was really telling with me even as a kid. Lana couldn’t tell the difference between Clark and bizarro Clark. However Lois could tell the difference between an elseworlds Kal-EL and the OG Kal-EL
Because Lana thought Clark had finally accepted her darker side and that she had flaws- it doesn’t take away anything from Clark and Lana because bizarro and Clark has always been “confusing”
I never liked how they brought Lana back. It made Lois feel like a consolation prize in the absence of Lana.
That's because she was exactly that, atleast in this show.
@Ryan_Wayne nah. Lana showed the contrast in the two relationships. Lois was fun & supportive. Lana was bitter, jaded & untrusting by the end, not surprising as she probably had PTSD growing up in smallville.
Think about it, every episode Lana was getting knocked out, assaulted, mind controlled, hospitailised, stalked, groomed etc. Probably had PTSD & CTE by the time she left in season 7.
@@joelbilly1355 When Lana was bitter, untrusting or whatever, it was almost always for a reason. The fact that they actually got through it all to be fully open to each other and still very much in love only to break apart forever because of cryptonite in her body only speaks about the strenght of that relationship which overcame almost everything you could imagine and even often nonsensical obstacles made up by the writers only to "keep the show alive".
But sure, there was a contrast; the first relationship actually had some sort of romantic chemistry. The second one became "romantic" only because Superman's lore dictates it.
@Ryan_Wayne nah too much had happened. She spent a lot of time lying to clark about her obsession with getting back at lex and clark was starting to resent her for a lot of things. She even admitted that she was happiest with bizarro than she was with clark. Lana just became a very bitter dark person by the end, life had ground her down. At least when she got superpowers she didn't feel helpless anymore which was always a big thing for her
@@joelbilly1355 Too much time lying to Clark? It was literally just few months of one season. He lied to her six years... But that doesn't matter, because even if your argument was valid, it doesn't negate my previous point; that she almost always had a reason for her struggles and they got through all that shit anyway.
Lex manipulated her through fake pregnancy and then made her believe that she lost the baby, bad as her behaviour was, I think we can safely give her benefit of the doubt regarding her "craziness" in season seven, considering circumstances.
Important takeaway from that was that she grew from all that anger and in the end, she was even stopping Clark from killing Lex. Her character went through insane shit and grew into mature woman and I think her growth was always very underrated by the fans.
The writers didn't know what to do with Pete.
They could've found ways to keep him on the show they were just to focused on shoving Lana down our throats they were obsessed with her they could've ended her time in Clark's life at season 4 when they graduated high school. They didn't even bring in the mermais Lori Lamaris since they were bringing in characters that Clark doesn't meet till after he's grown up & left Smallville.
@@catspaw3092 I'll do you one more and say Pete should have came back for the Smallville high school reunion. As for Lana- Chloe took the good aspects from Lana but I think the character who got the most cheated over was Alicia Baker.
Season 8 might be my favourite season of Smallville; it really was like a breath of fresh air after a few days stuck inside.
Everyone thought Lana and Lex leaving would be the death knell of the show, but to be honest it really did feel like a MASSIVE weight had been lifted off the show and off of Clark’s journey itself. Both Lana and Lex’s stories had essentially run their courses. Clark needed to take that next step after being stifled for a few seasons.
@@thedefinitionisthiseven micheal still acts like the show got worse after he left but season 8 is immediately better than 7
I think by season eight I had pretty much already accepted that Clark and Lana just wouldn't work out, so I didn't really feel all that upset by her departure. What they did with Jimmy Olsen, on the other hand...
Man, that still bothers me.
I accepted that in season seven
I accepted it season 1 because I knew the story😭
@@saadieqfaison3160 Smallville acting like Clark/Lana was meant to be for its first several seasons was headache inducing.
By season 8? Dude, you should've known from the first episode that Clark and Lana wouldn't work out because you knew that he was going to end up with Lois. Seriously, Clana fans make no sense. How could you ship a couple that was always destined to fail? The show was never going to have Clark end up with anyone but Lois, and you should've known that. Also, the problem with Jimmy is that he should never have been on the show at all. Clark should have been paired with Chloe during season 6. Chloe being paired with Jimmy while Clark continued to pine for Lana was a waste of her character and Clark's.
OH YEA!
still the BEST Lois EVER!
Awwww I never put together before that Lois and Clark working side by side at the planet is like Jonathan and Martha 🤗🤗
Man I was hoping you'd talk about this. It's such a well-written love story. Lois and Clark I mean.
LMAO THE FUCKING INTRO SEQUENCE.
Your Smallville video essays are top notch.
I had a weird time this season. On one hand, it has some of Smallville’s best content, allowing us to breathe as you put it after dragging a lot of stories out and moving on. Seeing Clark smile and just enjoy life again after being perpetually miserable was such a welcome change. On the other hand, the way they handled Lana’s return felt so backwards.
They build it as her finally making a life for herself, but then walk back on her and Clark deciding to break up for good. It doesn’t help how majorly inconsiderate Clark looks considering his developing feelings for Lois (way to leave her behind Clarkie). I found myself rolling my eyes moreso than finding the story tragic.
Exactly, having the Lana arc - arguably one of the worst Smallville mini-arcs - right in the middle of what could potentially have been the best season, and thus knocking it down a notch, was very frustrating.
The main problem with this series is that it really drags out Clark becoming Superman, really he should’ve started the become Superman in season 5 when he got the fortress and started facing actual Superman villains. But that stupid “no cape, no flying” rule and Tom Welling’s refusal to wear the suit shot this show in the foot.
Would love to see your analysis of Gotham! Similar vibes and premise to Smallville but for Batman. First season isn’t for everyone but it really takes a villain-centric turn from Season 2 onwards. Can definitely picture an Implicitly Pretentious video on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and the Joker.
Me to Gotham is my second favorite show after Smallville
Same I’ll be so excited when he does this
I hated Lana character, i hated the way they brought her back and Clark completely kicked Lois to the curb i was disgusted!
As he should
Please Please Please do a video about Alicia. She is such an underrated character in smallville but she's also a big part of Clark's and Lois development.
Don't you mean Clark and Chloe?
@@tornadochaser2457 Nope I mean Alicia
I would have preferred if CLark and Lana had simply grown apart and realized that because of who they are now, they are no longer meant for each other and they should move on rather than the contrived Kryptonite suit thing they did.
Lois was right for Clark, supportive and fun. Lana though an orphan was still very upbeat & pretty in the first season so why wouldn't clark want her. But as the seaons went on every week bad stuff happened to. Lana was getting knocked unconscious, marrying a monster, kidnapped, stalked, assaulted, mind controlled, possessed, groomed by older men, manipulated, hospitailised gaslighted, controlled, raped, miscarraige, even became a vampire seemingly every episode. By the time she left Lana was likely suffering from massive PTSD & CTE as as any football player & very jaded. When clark was with her she was completely untrusting & unsupportive. I would not be suprised if she left smallville to join a cult.
LOVE LOVE LOVE ERICA DURANCE ❤❤❤
I love this Clark and Lois and seeing them at the Daily Planet it's fun
season 8 is where people say the show starts to dip but season 8 is where the show takes off for me, mainly because Lana finally leaves in the only way possible! they kept the Lana character around way past her expiration date with the "will they won't they" getting beaten to death by season 5 and they wrote themselves into a corner with her by the absolute only way for Clark to finally move on was to make her litterally poisonous to Clark!
I love this show but my biggest problems was Lana and Clark bitching about his powers then losing them to be in a relationship and learning his lesson then getting them back and breaking up only to turn around in the very next episode and bitch about them again and start the cycle over again never learning his lesson even 10 years later he gave up his power yet again... thanks Tom welling for letting the fans down and still refusing to play the character you were cast for!
Kristin Kreuk, such an early crush. And future podcaster Michael Rosenbaum solidified himself as my Lex Luthor the way Hamill and Conroy are my Joker and Batman. (not to say i didn't love him as Flash and Mr Crabs as the animated Lex). Looking forward to how all this doom and gloom plays out in your follow up video. Cheers!
Love Lana and Lois ❤
I love your smallville breakdowns!
Keep them coming :)
All your Smallville videos, I love them!!! Thanks!!
I really love your videos they just feel nice and comforting.
I love your videos
They feel so soft and comforting.
Thank you
thank you for blessing my week
I admire how you try to turn into gold a terribly written plot. Season 8 was a much needed improvement over season 7. Clark finally stops acting like an immature jerk, Lois is given the spotlight as Clark love interest and Tess Mercer was a true great addition to the plot. Davis Bloome arc for the most part works too, but the writers and producers had to find a way to screw up.
First of all, Lana shouldn't have never ever return. There was nothing for the character there, but they had to milk a dry box for soap opera drama. I can't get emotional over their final goodbye because it's ridiculous. It's well acted, but ridiculous. It was already over, no reason to bring it one more time only to create a convoluted way to justify them not being together, when it was already stated that Clark and Lana simply didn't work. And the whole Super Lana thing was laughable.
And the worst thing besides the Doomsday plot resolution was how they dealt with Lex. They should have left the character alone, with only hints he was alive instead of bringing him back and kill him and then create a convoluted plot to justify his return.
I love these videos beyond words
Yh Erica Durance was the perfect Lois Lane.
you are so good at analyzing this show
Loving your smallville phase, thank you
I'll always love you lana
This was so good.
Great show! Love the video!
I’m glad Clark got 2 of the most gorgeous women in the world. If anyone deserves it, it’s Superman. Clark’s girlfriends are continuously cast with the best looking actresses around. Nice to see that continue with Rachel Brosnahan
Early Smallville was soo good. Like early Young Justice
Well done!!!
I still be crying in the club with that Lana and Clark goodbye scene. I need to rewatch my favorite show to see how it feels now 😅
same🤧🤧
You make the best videos I love the artsy passion for hero
I think Season 8 is my favorite of the show.
That clana goodbye will always hurt😢. These reviews definitely bringing back emotions 😅. Thanks though 😊
I do love these Smallville retrospective videos. I hope to see more of it. 😊
Really hoping to see another Season 8 video about Tess, Davis, and Jimmy. And more Lois never hurt anybody...
You mean Henry Olsen.
@@giovannigiovanni.7220 Nope. His name was Jimmy.
@@retro_vintage Henry James Olsen. Jimmy is his nickname.
God, that Lana return-departure was SO badly handled and written, I still shudder just remembering it. It ruined characters, threw a wrench in multiple character arcs, left a narrative mess that was barely cleaned up... The only consolation is knowing that this was dictated by actor contract and not character choices, this way I can pretend it didn't happen and that characters weren't ruined.
The worst part is, they DID have a chance to handle it gracefully and have them break up beautifully in a mature way, but they decided to do.... this.
Shippers are forever bitter lol. Realistically with everything they went through, no way would Clark and Lana willingly just walk away from each other. They had to be forced apart
@@kirstenrox234 Realistically they would have walked away from each other after the Bizarro fiasco AT THE LATEST, if not during the Lexana shit or a few other times earlier.
@@tinatinarmainteresebs9255 that’s not realistic at all especially since Lana was essentially raped by brainiac and was groomed by Lex
As someone who never watched Smallville, this is a great series of videos!
I don't agree with a lot of things these videos say, but man they're good.
Man, I didn't realize how much I missed this show.
haha great choice of 'Lana' font. Perfect for some reason.
Lana lang was the bes character in this show I totally love her. I miss Smallville too much, beautiful video btw.
Lana Lang was only good for the first three seasons. She became a drag on the show once Lois Lane arrived and Chloe Sullivan became Clark's confidante. The show didn't need Lana once high school ended because she doesn't have a story after high school. Once the show shifted from Smallville High School to Metropolis and the Daily Planet, Lana should've left Smallville and Chloe and Lois should have been the focus of Clark's story.
Lana coming back in season 8 but needing to leave because that's the only way it can be, is the most emotional moment I the show for me. Man this show is so good!
Smallville videos are back thought they never finish
insane clark
I always felt he should have ended up with Lana.
If the show or next show was called Superman something, with the same cast, then I would have been ok with Lois.
yeaaaaaa booiiiii smallville video
This was surprisingly quick. You just uploaded the last one two weeks ago.
Lana coming back in s8 in the way she did was the worst thing about the show along with Tom not actually bwing in the suit. Other than that, fantastic show
Just subscribed notifications bell on!!!
Speaking of Jensen: When are you going to do an in depth and complete look into 10 Seasons of Winchester Family Trauma? Because if any show demands a complete analysis on Trauma it's definitely that one.
I remember loving season 8 so much back in the day, it felt so fresh, it was a perfect soft reboot for a show that had already started to feel like it had been overstaying its welcome for a couple of years with seasons 6 and 7. It's a shame the last 2 seasons were unfortunately not as good as season 8, especially season 10 which felt like what should have been a double episode finale stretched over a whole season with barely any characters left.
Me personally, I actually loved season 9. Probably my favorite season of the post-Lana/Lex era. Zod made for a great villain, and the JSA eps were awesome. I do agree tho that season 10 was a letdown until the finale.
No one will ever comprehend how much I loathe and hate Lana Lang… She was fine the first 3 seasons, but then she became the most annoying and irrelevant character I’ve ever known. Especially after she took up so many seasons when Lois should’ve been the endgame love interest from much earlier!!!
They should have started calling it Bigville then
The ending wasn't as bad as the Smallville Doomsday fight! 🙄😂
When it aired, it was actually considered good effects. It just had the Smallville fight issue of only lasting a couple hits. But that was about keeping the ratings down to a T/PG 13.
@@kyleellis1825Also gotta keep in mind that the show’s budget was glaringly low. As with any long running show, costs of keeping the show going, goes up. A shame too because you can tell the show had higher aspirations that what a CW show in the 2000s would allow, financially.
8:14 yeah, i agree
My new favourite pick up line @ 10:47
I think it's either after Smallville or Supernatural where I decided that 5 seasons of a show is really enough. In as much as some of the later seasons (certain episodes, specifically) were enjoyable, I think I would've enjoyed the show as a whole a lot more if it was shorter.
Very few shows have kept me invested after S5. Buffy, Community, Friends, and DS9 are pretty much the only ones.
It never made sense why they hinted at Clois in "Bride" only to start Lana's return arc in the next episode. It makes you wonder what the writers were thinking. 😂
I mean, Lois is suddenly gone, and Clark is back in love with Lana like Lois doesn't exist. Then it's implied he'd be with Lana if not for the Kryptonite in her body. So Lois seems like a backup choice in the end.
Ultimately, when Lana came back, it should've been kept platonic with Clark. Even a simple "Looks like I was right about the two of you four years ago" from Lana would have established Lois as the one and not a consolation prize.
What's funny is that if u skipped those 4 eps its like nothing happened, and although I think they should've finish that arc a diff way, I dont think it places Lois as a consolation prize since they didnt get together immediately,
@CesarRodriguez-cf3tn - Nobody skips episodes when watching though. So it's ultimately stuck in the viewer's mind that he'd be with Lana if he had the choice.
In the end, they either should've waited to push Clois until S9 after that happened or kept Clark/Lana platonic with Lana giving Clark an "I told you so" and Clark admitting how he felt for Lois.
@@ryandeffley7652 well they did wait until s9 for Clois fully, on the other thing im referring to the story, it doesn't really change much after she left, like she never came back, since i mostly rewatch the last 3 seasons i notice that skipping those eps doesnt affect the story really, reason why i believe they should've ended it differently with them
@CesarRodriguez-cf3tn - It actually does set that frame, though. Clark acts like Lois doesn't exist, goes all in on Lana, and then when that can't happen, good old Lois gets to be a replacement.
If they knew Lana was coming back for five eps right after Bride in a romantic context, it didn't make any sense to start romantic Clois in any context.
I agree, if you skip those episodes you'll see that nothing's missed and nothing happened, like they never existed. They have no point. Which goes to show that they were shoehorned just to give Kristin those remaining episodes and served no real logical or story purpose.@@CesarRodriguez-cf3tn
14:08 sometimes trite puns are still valid 😂
Clark and Chole? Nah, they have to be “just friends” so Clark can keep pining after Lana. Clark and Alicia? Actually the most suited partner for Clark on the show and was actually good for him? Hell no!! We can’t have Clark finding someone actually good for him and can help him grow as a character! This’ll ruin our plan! Kill her off!! Seriously, Alicia was done dirty by the writers. She gave us a taste of what a Clark who was focused and could grow and mature as character would be like, and they yanked it away from us!
RIP Alicia Baker ❤
Lois has many numbers higher than Clark, not just age.
She’s dated a few billionaires, as well as just having sexual relationships, which Clark just never had.
Doesn't really matter.
Clark got married aleady. Firsts don't matter, only the bests/lasts.
So?
Lois was easy and fun but Lana was hard work. Lois went looking for trouble but trouble always found lana.
If I had to put up with THIS Lana Lang couldn’t they make her story better then it was? Such make end up becoming a villain Clark had to take on? Then just have her end up in prison for rehabilitating or she just ends up in a long coma. Where she’d wake up starting all over fresh and new?
I think Lois got shafted in Smallville. They always made you think Clark would be with Lana if he only could. Lois deserved better.
I never liked the season 8 Lana arc. In the previous seasons it had become pretty clear that Clark and Lana just didn't work as a couple for many reasons, and while it would have been less dramatic, I think the proper resolution for that relationship would be them coming to the mature conclusion that they just aren't right for each other. Instead, we get them once again being forced to part instead of it being their own choice. It also cheapens the romance with Lois, which had already started developing. It makes Lois seem like the consolation prize when she is actually the true perfect fit for Clark.
Only thing weird was her new hair in season 8 who butchered it, hopefully it was a bad wig.
💛

Gosh, I love Lana Lang. Always did. Always will. I think half of that is the way Kristin Kreuk played her, and the other half is how much chemistry Tom and Kristin Kreuk had, It was palpable, and that made their love story so profound and beautiful. Tragic, yes, but beautiful.

Her relationship with Lex, felt 10x longer than with Clark.
I liked Clark/Lana in the first 2 seasons, and I liked how S4 handled it with Jason and Lana, so Lana was the ex with some unresolved feelings over. Hated the ship the rest of the time.
Lol Lana Lang is just as much a result of Kristen Kruek as anything else in this show. I think the writers understood how she looked on screen and adjusted accordingly.
Love Lana
I Couldn't do this. It made me very sad😢

I thought I was over that final Lana goodbye. I was wrong. 😢
The show kinda goes downhill after S5 and never really recovers but I guess that's an interesting angle. Clark really needed a big push.
Just started watching recently. I binged 1-3 in like two days but as soon 4x1 hit with Chloe and Lois playing the same character basically, and no Clark + Lana in sight, I want to force myself to continue for Lex but it's they're not making it easy.
Dude keep at it seasons 4 and 5 are the best seasons
