Why am I comparing the R5 to the a7r3? Because the a7r3 is my current primary shooter because I didn't like the a7r4, or any other Sony camera, as much as the a7r3. We made a video about why I didn't switch to the a7r4 (but Tony did): ruclips.net/video/Yy-5RVm6Mck/видео.html
@الله جل جلاله There is nothing wrong with Sony's menu. Once you use it more often, it will be easier. Especially with the FN shortcut and the 10+ customizable buttons that you can assign almost everything to. Form factor on the recent models is fine, even though I have a large hands and prefer DSLR feel and grip. If you have a small hands it should be enough. There are many cheap models that you can buy. Look them up and start making money.
Watching this as a Nikon user. I was intrigued and bought into Sony and used it as a second camera for a year. What I learned? For most people, unless your system is truely limiting your real world usage, time and money can be better spent on true photography projects, learning skills, or traveling. Or simply get a better tripod and some new lights, or sign up for an online course for Art History. Camera companies are constantly adding new features and trying to leap forward, don't be distracted. Or you will want to switch every two years.
Exactly Yeah, brand switching makes little sense. I stuck with Canon for 15 years as a pro, tried other brands and there was never any real reason to switch. I almost went to the A7RIII once but tried the body and hated it (also didn't like the Fuji). I'm glad I stuck around. And in 15 years I've never once seen anybody take better pictures or get more clients when switching brands. Never. And I've seen people who have gone thru all Canon cameras, then Nikons lineup, then Sony, then medium format, then back to Canon... never a meaningful difference.
I will say in slight contrast, many are switching to mirrorless from DSLR and may be trying to figure out who to buy into. I had Canon, I'm sticking with Canon. Bought only an RP because I'd like to wait for all this chaos with the R5/6 to subside and get a pro body later. Starting to invest in RF glass now...
Yeah, I would agree. I've spent thousands of dollars switching from Fuji to Sony to the Canon RF mount (and Leica for personal work) the photos never got much "better". In real world use, without pixel peeping or worrying about an extra stop or two dynamic range, all modern camera are going to give you great results. Switching systems is almost always a waste of money.
I was always a Canon user. Beginning with my EOS 500, to 700D, 7D Mark II going over into EOS RP at this arrived and now looking forward to the EOS R6. Canon never disappointed me. So I never changes the system or the lenses. All of my many lenses works on all this 4 cameras and on my coming R6. And in the future I will never change the system.
Francis So Yeah the new Sigma 85 1.4 Art FE is amazing and even better than the G-master only $1200. The canon 85 1.2 is definitely not $1500 better than the sigma.
I don't get why I should use my fingers to zoom in every single picture when the Sony just zooms in on the part that was focused wherever they are in the frame, so for portraits you can go through all pictures via dial and have the eyes shown instantly.
@SwitchRich I agree and I was going to make that same point. However, I also think it would be nice to be able to use the typical touch gestures because that's what people are used to and as younger people start getting into photography it's going to feel weird without those gestures. When Sony adds them though, they also need to keep that instant way to check the focus spot and scroll through like we currently have.
kelb89 There is nothing wrong with switching to other systems if you think it will help you to improve your work. It's actually better to not be married to a specific brand. I personally switched from Canon to Panasonic and later to Sony. I've sold all my gear last year because of lack of interest in photography but now I regret it. I'm considering to buy a camera again and I've not decided yet what brand it will be.
@@binaryblog I agree to an extent, however, 'switching' every time a new camera comes out is excessive and shows a lack of skill. It seems like every new camera now will improve these RUclipsrs' work... Maybe it's not the camera they should need to improve, but their skills. I'm not saying they lack skill in particular but come on lol.
It does but it zooms in all of the way rather than having the ease of zooming in the amount you want. Also, I accidentally deleted someone else’s comment while trying to delete my own. Sorry, person.
So rather than ditching my Sony A7R III and buying a new camera and lenses what do you think about just keeping the R III and adding the A7S III to my bag?
Spend your money and switch to Canon. Then in a couple weeks, spend even more money and switch to the new Nikon Z7 II. It makes good entertainment. Love the live testing. It shows us that photography is more than just the spec sheet. I don't see enough technical difference to make me want to switch, but I can understand it if you don't enjoy the Sony experience. The similarity in the results tells us that we might be leveling off with mirrorless technology. I hope Nikon leapfrogs into the same pond. Hopefully you can get your D850 feel back with mirrorless benefits. PS: I liked the concept of Tony's blind test.
I thought the Sony not only had better colors, but made the lighting look better as well. The canon images seemed kind of flat to me, color and lighting. I also thought that between the first set of lenses used, the sony one had a nicer look to it, in my opinion.
Thank you. I’m so happy with the Sony a7Riii, I haven’t really considered the need to switch. The menu and UI are now easy to navigate and colors are great. In particular I love jumping between Full Frame to Apsc mode that allows me to zoom in and out without changing lenses. I am sure Canon users will be happy with the R5 and R6.
Chelsea this is a really good video for SONY! You just made a great case for the Sony - especially the a7riii (btw, came out in 2017). A camera that is really 4 years old vs a Canon R5 in 2020. I would question what is comparative cost of (i.e.) Sony a7riii + 85 1.4GM vs Canon R5 + 85 1.2
Yeah, the price difference is huge and A7r III still is a great camera. From picture quality point of view A7r IV is not supposed to be that much better than the earlier model. Actually beside the pixel count A7r III has in some areas slightly better tested performance. But other areas were improved so a test between most recent models would be kind of more fair comparison.
Glad you brought that up! Didn't see who else did, but I definitely was gonna say something. Comparing an older Sony to a brand new Canon and they still trade punches? Sounds to me like the system is altogether better for Sony, maybe it isn't about just the camera body at that point...
I'm about half way through the video where you say "so far the canon is winning because of use-ability". You're not wrong, but I think Sony is addressing all of that in their newer cameras, and will definitely have it all worked out in the cameras to come in early 2021. I'm finding it a bit odd that you're comparing Canon's cutting edge, latest camera to Sony's a7R of 2 generations back.
@ Pat Bollin don't you think that this is the most accurate scenario that we all face though? If she was doing a camera vs camera shootout of which won you should buy, I would agree with you. Since this is a video of do I want to stay in this system, or do I want to switch over to another, I think it is relatable. That is just my two cents. Either way I enjoyed the video.
The A7RIII actually produces nicer images with better dynamic range and lower noise than the A7RIV. The body isn't that different and the menus are still a nightmare.
You are seeing the A7R III because that is her camera lol. This video is about switching. She has already compared her camera to the A7R IV in another video.
WOLFTICK VIDEOS thanks for replying. I don’t disagree with you completely, but I think I’m with another commentator who said the comparison should really be R5 vs a7R Iv. I’m not a hater, though. I enjoy and learn from 95% of the content on this channel.
I think she was trying to sell us some Canon gear. Finding excuses for all Canon disadvantages, comparing more expensive Canon lenses with hood to cheaper Sony ones, etc. Sony also has a ton of third party lenses - Zeiss, Sigma, Tamron, Voigtlander and many more, you have both cheap options and extremely high quality ones.
Release dates A7R III - October 2017 24-70 GM, 70-200 GM, 85 GM - February 2016 Canon R5 - July 2020 RF 24-70 - August 2019 RF 70-200 - October 2019 RF 85 - June 2019 Sony did really good. Did not realize that the technologies were so many years apart.
@@elias38 The price doesn't seem 3 years old to me, also A7III came out at 2018 April, about one and half year. Edit: Oh oh, it was the A7RIII she was comparing with, the title caught me off. In that case, definitely compare to A7RIV to be fair.
I just got the RF 70-200, and I'm blown away. It's wildly sharp, super lightweight/compact, the IS is way better, it focuses WAY faster, and it focuses WAY closer. That's compared to the EF gen 3 version I traded in, not Sony, but this lens is an engineering marvel! The 85mm 1.2 DS will be next on the calendar for me! I'm prepping for upgrading my EOS R to the 80-90MP R5s in 2021. 🥳
Why compare the a7 III and not the a7r IV to the R5? Seems lopsided. Not saying this to be mean, just genuinely wondering since your prior videos seem to suggest that you own an a7r IV.
I appreciate the down-to-earth-ness of this video. If this were any of the popular photo dudes, the video would be full of sexual innuendo (Kai and Fro, for example), or they'd be shooting models who don't look like normal people (Manny).
Edit: They test the A7r3, not the A7III - the video title was wrong and I misheard it because I read it simultaneously. So ignore my argument about resolution below - the other points mostly still apply. To be fair, the A7III is already from 2018. While it is still amazing and - be honest - still does what you usually need, it definitely will have a harder time 'winning' this specific competition - alone because it just has half the resolution. Other factors as the (back then 10bit being non standard) video features and the usual Sony IBIS in the small E mount won't help it either. But it's neither the less interesting to see how those things can be done 'better' or 'worse' - depends. In photo mode, the difference is even smaller. Another thing is to note that Sony's newest photo-camera (the A9ii and A7RIV) are still "older" than the canon and sport the old processor instead of the new one in the A7SIII model. With the new CPU we should see some bump in speed, accuracy and AF-AI-Power. So for now this comparison is surely a statement, but all things considered, it also doesn't really tells us anything else than "Sony needs to release a matching model on their next production cycle" - Which is something that always applies anyways and should never be not expected. So probs for making this video and putting the work into it - it definitely shows where cameras have evolved and where is still space left, but except for showing that tendency, there's not a lot to take from it - and that can be and is fine too. Both cameras are amazing and capable of most things you throw at them. The other points like feel and colors are very subjective and you should chose the tool you need - brand loyalty will not bring you more clients ;)
That always used to be a setting you could change on Canon’s DSLRs (as in, what it does when you press the magnify button) would be a shame if it wasn’t a thing on the R5/6
With regard to your 85mm comparison, I'd love to have seen you try the Sigma 85 Art DN 1.4 instead of the Sony GM 1.4. The Sigma absolutely crushes the Sony. I think it'd be a more fair fight. Dustin Abbott did a fantastic comparison between the Sigma and Sony.
Bonus; the canon size ensures you never have to wander more than 50 feet from a parking lot. I like carrying lenses that are the circumference of my thigh.
They switch cameras more than undecided freshman switch their majors. Lol. The photographer makes the camera. The camera doesn't make the photographer.
Almost same results, as you said if you shoot raw after post editing no one will see the difference. So left the price. Canon is exspensive with its lenses. Sony has full ecosystem of lenses and banch of third party lenses! Also Sigma has announced new line of Art lenses for mirrorless E and L mounts. I would go with sony)
Sony fe mount has the advantage of having a lot of fast lenses: 50mm 1.4 ,100mm,a lot of 85mm, 35mm (Maybe 135mm). Zeiss lenses, samyang, sony g and gmaster, sigma sony-zeiss,voigtlander.... Canon lenses are more expensive, heavier, some are bigger and newer. The canon's price are even higher than sony's but the only thing i see in this comparison is the canon brand and bage on the lenses and overprice.
Mattia Falappi what!!! Canon has the f1.2 and the 2.8 trinity is the best you can buy , plus has IS on all 3 lenses and nothing comes close to the rf 70-200 f2.8...
@@marioslrzn the best is subjective, if you can share tests that can demostrate it i'm fine but you can't talk about the new trinity of f2.8 tamron zoom, g mastres trinity, g 70-200 f4 version, sigma sports, sigma art series, zeiss batis,loxia,sony-zeiss and if you are a Amount usere you can use the high density phase detection point on the sensor with complete eye af at a reasonable price. The f4 zoom lens are oss, all the new bodies are oss, sony superzooms have oss and even a sony g macro lens have it. I know you are maybe an ex canon dslr user or an canon Rf mount user but when we talk about native system lens sony is WAY BETTER and even the number of lenses confirm this fact.
Sorry guys but its obviously confusing commercial, just promoting who pays more. No other person would change camera and all lenses, for different ordinary person can't see...
We have never accepted money or free gear from any camera or lens manufacturer. I agree that ordinary people don't change gear all the time. We're professional photographers and also camera reviewers; we have to buy the gear anyway for the sake of reviews, so we might as well use whatever works best. We're sharing our own testing and decision making process.
I’m also considering the switch from and to the same cameras. From your experience with the a7siii, have they improved any of the playback features or usability with the new menu / touch system? I know it’s only a 12mp camera for stills, but if there are some improvements on that camera, maybe it’s an indication the future a7 and a9 cameras will improve too? Willing to wait it out and continue using my Sony kit before switching, it’s tempting though.
Makes sense, if you have a whole lot of money or get the equipment for free. Canon RF lenses are amazing, but the price is so high that I'll definitively resist the temptation to switch from Sony to Canon until 3rd party lenses become available and prices for Canon RF lenses drop after 2 or 3 years.
I got a a7rIV myself, using the sony 85 1.4 gm for portraits. And having real issues with it, patterns and moire in the clothes of the models..real pain in the ass processing the pics afterwards. That being said, the a7r IV is a fantastic landscape camera.
Thank you. I was thinking about getting the r5 over the a7riv. I own the a9ii and use it allot for wildlife. I was going to get a second camera for landscape and portraits and have been going back and forth with do I get the A7riv or the r5.
you seem so sweet and kindhearted... yet the comments are full of rude and mean judgments. I looked up this video and was happy to see the two cameras I was considering getting compared so thoroughly. Thank you for creating this and ignore the haters.
People you need to understand that Chelsea is a professional photographer. Not just a reviewer. So she is still using the A7Riii because it isn’t about having the latest and greatest, it’s about what using what is working and if the upgrades are minimal why upgrade from iii to iv? She’s not comparing the A7Riv because she doesn’t USE it. When this is your career it isn’t about the body it’s about the lenses and swapping bodies every two years is VERY ridiculous.
I predict a switch back to Sony early next year, I mean it will be a good half year by then. Or maybe Nikon? Perhaps just keep all the lenses so when you do switch you just need a new body. Further, I personally have not been impressed by KEH with my experience, and I had very realistic expectations.
I don’t understand why people keep complaining about the user experience on the Sony bodies. Yes, it’s different, but once you learn how to set it up and what settings work for you, you shouldn’t be constantly struggling. And, if you just shoot such a huge variety of subjects that you are constantly changing settings and changing the type of settings you need to tweak, there are SIX custom recall functions that allow you to preload whatever settings you use for whatever you plan on shooting. Also, yes, it is nice that Canon has a more developed touch system, and I would like it if that came to Sony, but there is nothing hindering about the current way to review pictures. Everything is accessible with your right hand without ever having to take it off the camera. If you are swiping or pinching to zoom, you have to take your hand off the grip unless you happen to be left-handed. Yea, Canon’s touch interface is nice-it really is-but that doesn’t make Sony’s interface bad. It just has room for improvement. And, any client who can’t figure out how to use two buttons and the dial wheel/d-pad probably would struggle with whatever else you try to give them.
I think after the release of sigma 85 1.4 dg dn lens, I don't think anyone would buy the 85 1.4 GM but I understand the need to test both native lenses.
HAIDUC BLADES stop watching it as a latest and greatest comparison. It’s a video about Chelsea’s decision whether to change from her current camera to another one. It’s going on that journey with her and perhaps learning on the way. That’s what this video is, not a review of either. Just a comparison for her.
i used to shoot with canon eos R and I needed to upgrade my base because i outgrew the eos R and needed more megapixels to get better photo resolution and better photo quality. i didn't want to spend 4000 dollars on the canon R5 so i went with sony and i noticed the autofocus was so much better and intuitive on the a7r3 then the canon eos R it was mindblowing. a few weeks ago i went back to use my canon eos R and found it extremely frustrating with the autofocus system i had to constantly manually move the focus points to where i wanted them to go because the eos R kept wandering around aimlessly and tracking things i didn't want it to. my photoshoots go by so much quicker on the a7r3 then they ever did on the eos R. The eos R would take me about two hours to get my work done and the sony a7r3 a half hour to do all my work with more detail in the photos. Canon is a good LEARNING camera but that's all it is a LEARNING camera for newbies who want to LEARN photography. If i had a cheap photoshoot job and cheap customers i would give them the crappy canon photos but if i have high paid clients or do it for myself i would use the sony a7r3. I've also noticed that when editing my photos in post production the colors are A LOT better on sony then on canon and requires much less post production work on the sony then the canon
Loved your videos. Would you be kind enough to make a video about using the Canon EF lenses on R5 body and the quality comparisons between RF and EF lenses on R5 body, please? For example .. Comparison between the EF 70-200 F2.8L IS III USM lens the RF-70-200 F2.8L IS USM on R5 body. Also one should upgrade the EF lenses to RF or not when they already have the Canon Trinity of EF-L lenses if they are upgrading from Canon 5D mark 4 to Canon R5 body ?
I've noticed that the Canon has a more professional feel and shutter sound. Sony shutter sounds very tinny by comparison. Canon shutter sound reminds me of my Nikon D810, just very damped and professional. This may sound weird -- who cares about shutter sound -- but this is something you listen to throughout most shoots and it can affect your mood.
I agree as well. The sounds and the feel are all part of the experience and creative process. I think Chelsea is one of the few reviewers that look at a camera as more than a spec sheet.
I found on the R5 that if I use back button focus with the AF-ON button and Eye AF on the * in instances where the Eye AF struggles, i hit the AF on button and it gets close and then hit the star and it locks on the eye.
I'm sure that you can pinch to zoom on the r3 when you have the option enabled somewhere in the (vast depths of Sonys) menu? At least on my a7 III you can do that.
Ryan B 450 comes with all original accessories box Manuel neck strap 1 original canon battery 2 third party 1 portable charger 1 original wall charger kit lens and 1 glass screen protector 2 extra plus a v nd filter for the kit lens.
Since you have used the Canon R before (or Tony has) and now use the R5, does the R5 seem to have better color and better dynamic range than the original Canon R in a comparison? How much are you gaining with the R5 over the R for photo use? (Only asking as some people may only have the budget for a Canon R, just starting out in FF.)
I prefer the look of the EOS R sensor for the money. I thought the R5 would knock me out with its colour science but it was too similar to the Sony A7R IV.
i am not an expert but... isn't the point of a mirrorless to be smaller than a DSLR? i mean Sony is like 30% smaller that what you have on Canon there... , and the fact that they are that close in quality......i would just pick sony no questions asked
Adrian Dobre the point of mirrorless being smaller was all it had going for it years ago. Times change, and you’d have to be blind to not see a million other benefits. Thank god it’s not smaller.
From your above comparison if i intend to buy i would probably choose Sony A7riii rather than Canon R5 even though Sony A7R3 is already 3 years old since Sony A7R3 body street price is only US$1900 to $2000 while Canon is USD 4000 in Hong Kong. Also there are many lens other than Sony lens to choose from Sigma, Tamron etc. I am now looking for Sony A7R4 although it is a year old the street price is only USD2600 brand new from Hong Kong official agent/distributor.
Don’t know I mean the a7r3 is selling right now for under 2k and wider lens Selection.. Now an apples to apples comparison would of been the a7r4 against the r5 instead of a two years old camera
Tony the video is on point to be hand held you have a steady hand. Chelsea your comparative was great I do agree with the touch screen seems to be the main advantage. But the af is a bit more crucial.
Over 20k in sony lenses and decided to stay with the a7r3 when the a7r4 came out. I considered returning to canon but it's just not remotely worth it as the loss would be to great
I am surprised! the Sony A7r3 and the worst GM lens is still matching the new Glass of Canon along with the new R5.... I don't see any justification upgrading from someone who owns Sony to switch to Canon maybe just if you so much care about the video and you need a super Hybrid Camera.... both cameras are doing nice best luck
This was great. Not ready to go back to Canon, but thanks for this. Were those drone shots by Tony messing around while you guys set up? I live so close to this part, yet I've never been!
The Canon looks more appealing with an unlimited budget, but I chose a refurb A7RIII and glass from Tamron to save many thousands of dollars. Can't go wrong either way.
@@TonyAndChelsea Absolutely, but once you get used to mirrorless... Will you be reviewing the Tamron 28-200mm? It's a great fit to the hobbyists in your audience.
I love that people always say eye af is awsom for portrtets but in real life if you have more then one person in the frame it becomes unusable I don't understand why camera manufacturers won't let my limit the space where in the frame eye af works I wold love to have an option to limit the eye af for example to zone af in that way saying to the camera look in this zone there will by a face where I want you to focus and if it's possible find the eye please I wonder if only I have problems with this or cameras manufacturers have made this all rady but i can't figure it out how to make it work. :P
If they are almost even in quality and performance thats an expensive switch for a small gain. If you're buying in new without switching, the canon might be the way to go. Of course the a7r3 is 3 years old and if the rumors of a a93 or something like that happen in 1 qrt 2021 who knows what improvements sony might have. It's an exciting time and you really can't go wrong with these new cameras as they are both awesome. I've loved my a7r3 since I bought it but I keep my eyes open. I dream of the autofocus for BIF of the a9 on a 50 meg body without the noise of the a7r4. Looks like canon r5 has that. I'll wait for sony till next summer and then see how much money I can hemorrhage. Nice comparison. Good info.
I see different results from different RUclipsrs. The R5 and Sony's go back and forth though it's always close. User error/ability or are there differences between cameras off the assembly line as there are with lenses?
I think that Chelsea should definitely watch some of Tony's videos about how gear doesn't matter If you need to pixel-peep to tell the difference, maybe it's not worth several $K to change systems and with all that's currently going on in the world you probably won't get enough use to justify switching now, best to wait until we settle into the "new normal" and reassess our needs
Nice job. It's a bit unfair to compare the canon to the much older Sony. If you don't have to move now I would wait for the a7r3 replacement which should be a better match to the canon. I am not sure the a7r4 is that camera. Seems like a lot to spend on switching for marginal improvements. If you are totally new and have the money for canon glass then go r5
I don't get the change, she said she changed from Canon to Nikon and Sony due to image quality. But here imagine quality is the same. My best guess is that she didn't liked the Sony from the start and just compromised using it for the better image quality and eye af.
Also I just ordered a A7riv arrives Friday I just sold my Canon 6dmkii with 24 to 105 1.4 but I'm keeping some of my Canon lenes. I now have Sony 7ii, A7rii, and A9 selling the 7rii and a7ii so I will only have the two A7riv, A9 I have Several Sony lenses. I have purchased from KEH but was able to get a better price on the A7riv from a New Jersey store at 2749.99 couldn't turn that down. Oh by the the way great video. I leave Saturday for MAINE driving from Florida to shoot fall colors.
If a significant part of your job involves reviewing the trends and tech then its fine to change systems regularly, its not fair to compair the rate of change with most pro/amateur photographers. What can I say ....if I could i would as well😃😄
Second video comparing the R5 vs a7riii today. Why not the a7riv. I see you’re saying you didn’t like it but that not comparing what the latest offering from on company vs another’s super new flagship. 🤦🏾
I've seen quite a number of RF lens vs GM/best primes of FE lens image quality comparison before this. The conclusion is somewhat realistic to a lot of pro's opinions. One may have an edge over another but at this day and age the difference is small. Really small. It is not stopping you from earn an income using either brand of tools. Espeically if all you shoot is just portrait. The Canon RF lenses are all newest and the greatest so they definitely beat a lot of the old lenses. Both price and performance. That should be given. No surprises there. The real edge now with R5 is it is the only full frame beside A7sIII that can shoot faster than 4k30p(including R6 as well) so there is a lot for potential the wedding/event hybrid shooters. A7sIII has not surfaced the marke last I saw it. Other than that you only have fuji that can do this from the APS-C side. I'm sure a lot of people can't live without those slow-mo b-roll. These are features that are of real value. If you do way more still images of course it is a bum to actually absord all that costs.
@@davidho2977 considering sony makes the sensors for smartphones and can't keep up with the demand. Plus Nikon I doubt their sensor/camera department would be in any trouble anytime soon.
Chelsea has an obvious fondness for Canon (We all have a favourite) and so although she is being even in this video, it has to include that slight and fully declared favouritism, and also you can't ignore that she is using an old generation Sony and an old and known soft 85mm GM against the latest and no doubt very good R5 and 85mm 1.2. I'd now really like to see Tony do a third part to this as a real balance, as someone using the latest generation Sony and maybe with more fondness for the Sony system? Their joint views probably will give an overall more balanced result. I used the R5 as someone who never used canon before and thought it was like a brick of a camera, heavy as an old DSLR, I couldn't stand the ergonomics with the weirdly placed dial on the top and thought it was notably softer than the A7Riv (using a sigma 85mm not the soft GM). I sent it back pretty quick. Nice camera, no doubt, but definitely not overall better than the A7Riv, and very much just about what feels right to you.
I find the A7RIII produces nicer files than the A7RIV anyway, especially at higher ISOs or when recovering shadows.
@الله جل جلاله If Sony actually did those things I would consider it. Don't think it will ever happen though.
الله جل جلاله They did fix all this already, ergonomics, menu
WOLFTICK VIDEOS Ergonomics have been addressed already since A9ii and menu on A7siii. A7iv will have all these changes next year
@الله جل جلاله There is nothing wrong with Sony's menu. Once you use it more often, it will be easier. Especially with the FN shortcut and the 10+ customizable buttons that you can assign almost everything to.

Wuwei HE or you’re switch might let you shoot in a different way inspiring you more. What works for some, doesn’t work for others.
Well Tony and Chelsea have the money to do everything they want ... so why not upgrade as much they like if it make their hobby more enjoyable.
Sony all the way !
DARK STAR If Sony works best for you and your needs I am always fine with your opinion. Congratulations and many great and beautiful pictures.
Sony plus Sigma lenses is the best combination for me at the moment. The Canon RF lenses look great, but I can't really justify the extra cost.
The extra stops of Image stabilization.
Sigma is doing an outstanding job with the ART Lenses ! I can afford very cool glass for an affordable price.
Francis So Yeah the new Sigma 85 1.4 Art FE is amazing and even better than the G-master only $1200. The canon 85 1.2 is definitely not $1500 better than the sigma.
I definitely agree. For most people.. Chelsea has the luxury to buy all the expensive canon glass.
Dumping? Which dumpster? I need a specific gps location of the dumpster that contains your Sony camera, please.
😆 “dumping” aka selling whichever one i don’t pick to KEH.
Chelsea, do your cameras sell more because you're kinda famous or just the same as any of KEH? Lol Btw, asking from a fans perspective!
Don't pickup garbage.

I don't get why I should use my fingers to zoom in every single picture when the Sony just zooms in on the part that was focused wherever they are in the frame, so for portraits you can go through all pictures via dial and have the eyes shown instantly.
It's not just about checking focus on the eye but also the overall composition.
I want the dial on my Fuji. Basically on all cameras. This was the best thing while I was shooting Sony.
@SwitchRich Lol ! nail it man ! :)
Nikon, one button and your at 100% zoom on the focus point. Move it with your finger or zoom up or down with buttons or pinch.
I'm sure you will switch in 6 months
To the R1 for sure.
Nikon Z 7 II will be announced Oct 14.
Relax, it is her job trying out different systems
Surely you meant 6 weeks ...
I was just about to post this.
Nikon's next camera: dumping Canon for Nikon!
kelb89 There is nothing wrong with switching to other systems if you think it will help you to improve your work.

Nikon next camera end of nikons business.
So twice the price, 3 years new and the R5 can do only slightly better… Impressive
This should have been a comparison to the same age Sony vs Canon.
@@JoshKaufmanstuff why would she switch to an old camera? She's comparing them from the point of it worth upgrading to the newer Canon R5.
Chelsea, you need to join the step ladder gang, it's a life changer for use shorties.
Hey Chelsea, a tip for the Sony: You can double tap on the screen to quickly zoom in (still not ideal, but a little quicker)
That's a great tip!
It does but it zooms in all of the way rather than having the ease of zooming in the amount you want.
Also, I accidentally deleted someone else’s comment while trying to delete my own. Sorry, person.
Wow I've used them for years and even made tutorials and I didn't know that. They gotta be more intuitive. Thanks for the tip!
I did not knew that, it even works on my a6500.
Woah I’ve owned cams for years and didn’t know this!!!
So rather than ditching my Sony A7R III and buying a new camera and lenses what do you think about just keeping the R III and adding the A7S III to my bag?
That's what I did.
Great time to buy a camera, huh? I can’t imagine being disgruntled owning any of these newer cameras, honestly.

yes, also check the new Sigma 85 1.4 too :) It has a way better price-performance ratio than the Sony native lens.
Cool comparison, i much prefer the warmer tones of the sony. But what a great time, to have such amazing tools that are ALL great!
I have the R6. I love it. I couldn’t afford the R5 because I used money for the 50mm 1.2 and the 24-105 f4
Smart man. That 1.2 is the best available and it is forever
Good choice, enjoy your R6 for me
I switched from an A7III to the R6 a month ago. Editing is so much easier now.
@@ryanb8736 what do you mean by that? How does a camera change make the editing easier? (o_O)

Nobody cares because she is testing a camera she used until now against the R5. I will also switch to the R6 this year and will use this 85mm f1.2!
So i thought she was using a7 r4???
@@needleanabolscik5931 No, she was using her old camera, A7r III.
Picture qualify is basically the same, you can't choose wrong. For me r5 is not worth extra money.
Just a little more sharpness for 2k dollars extra
The a7s footage looks terrible?? Why is the he dynamic range so bad

R5 should be compared with a7r4 not mark3 🤦🏻♂️
I don’t think she’s trying to make a definitive technical review. This is more her personal journey.
They all compare it to mark 3. Canon’s r5 is competing with a 3 yo camera - nice.
@@elias38 The price doesn't seem 3 years old to me, also A7III came out at 2018 April, about one and half year.
Edit: Oh oh, it was the A7RIII she was comparing with, the title caught me off. In that case, definitely compare to A7RIV to be fair.
The a7r4 has more MPs, plus that’s not the camera I shoot with. I made a video about why I didn’t upgrade from the 3 to the 4.
大狐 lmao the A7Riii can be bought as low as 2300 dollars with an education discount. R5 va A7Riii is like heavy weight vs lightweight
The best of the best!
I wonder if Chelsea needs to talk with Irene Rudnyk about the best travel step ladder for outdoor portrait shoots.
I noticed that when you were using the 85mm primes, that the Sony 85 was used w/o a lens hood but the Canon 85 had the lens hood attached to the lens.
I made the switch because of the handling advantage of the Canon. Love Sony A7 / A9 series yet they are just to small in the hands
Why compare the a7 III and not the a7r IV to the R5? Seems lopsided. Not saying this to be mean, just genuinely wondering since your prior videos seem to suggest that you own an a7r IV.
We own an a7r4 and I didn’t like it as much as the a7r4. We have a video about it.
I thought she'd done prior videos explaining why she didn't prefer the rIV and still used the III

@@greggoodenough5607 I was thinking she might have sold it and just forgot that she had traded it for the R3
People that comment without watching the video!! 👌🏻
The other points like feel and colors are very subjective and you should chose the tool you need - brand loyalty will not bring you more clients ;)
sony zooms to where the focus was, canon can't do this, I find it more useful than pinch to zoom, because I want to check my focus after I did a shot.
Canon can do this as well, I have my R5 set to zoom in 100% on the focus point when reviewing images

Sony for me has reached its zenith but other camera manufacturers are catching up with new iterations of their mirrorless cameras.
I got a a7rIV myself, using the sony 85 1.4 gm for portraits. And having real issues with it, patterns and moire in the clothes of the models..real pain in the ass processing the pics afterwards. That being said, the a7r IV is a fantastic landscape camera.

Thank you so much Chelsea for the detailed and informative comparison video! Good luck!
The Sigma is just too good man

Can you guys do a video on the performance of ef mount adapted lenses for the new R5 and R6?
i used to shoot with canon eos R and I needed to upgrade my base because i outgrew the eos R and needed more megapixels to get better photo resolution and better photo quality. i didn't want to spend 4000 dollars on the canon R5 so i went with sony and i noticed the autofocus was so much better and intuitive on the a7r3 then the canon eos R it was mindblowing. a few weeks ago i went back to use my canon eos R and found it extremely frustrating with the autofocus system i had to constantly manually move the focus points to where i wanted them to go because the eos R kept wandering around aimlessly and tracking things i didn't want it to. my photoshoots go by so much quicker on the a7r3 then they ever did on the eos R.
I understand. Some people are more tactile than others. Sounds. Feels.
I agree as well. The sounds and the feel are all part of the experience and creative process. I think Chelsea is one of the few reviewers that look at a camera as more than a spec sheet.
In Backlit situations, do the Canon R5/R6 hunt. Is it bad? or is it just occasional?
I found on the R5 that if I use back button focus with the AF-ON button and Eye AF on the * in instances where the Eye AF struggles, i hit the AF on button and it gets close and then hit the star and it locks on the eye.
What was the video footage recorded on in this video? Thank you.
"It keeps thinking the wheel is an eye." And I've been led to believe this was only a Nikon issue 🤔🙂
All can have this issue. I've seen it with Fuji and Sony too.
I'm sure that you can pinch to zoom on the r3 when you have the option enabled somewhere in the (vast depths of Sonys) menu? At least on my a7 III you can do that.

Not for me. Mirrorless is now offering better AF technology.
Don’t know I mean the a7r3 is selling right now for under 2k and wider lens

What is the lighting set up you were using for the portraits?
They are all sharp.. dynamic range is EVERYTHING.
pinch to zoom should be easy to add to sony via firmware, wonder why they don't do it...any thoughts :)
I don't see any justification upgrading from someone who owns Sony to switch to Canon maybe just if you so much care about the video and you need a super Hybrid Camera.... both cameras are doing nice
best luck
This was great. Not ready to go back to Canon, but thanks for this. Were those drone shots by Tony messing around while you guys set up? I live so close to this part, yet I've never been!
Posts like these make me extremely glad I am not impulsive and never switched!
Did you find any overheating?
Please compare the colors between the R6 and eos r. A lot of people are saying the r6 is magenta and crap vs the eos r!
The Canon looks more appealing with an unlimited budget, but I chose a refurb A7RIII and glass from Tamron to save many thousands of dollars. Can't go wrong either way.
True that. I still feel like the best bang-for-the-buck is with used DLSRs, like a Nikon D750 or D850.
How about comparing the Canon EOS R5 against Sony AR7 IIIa
Use the new sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN, at the less than half of the price of RF 85 it'll perform equally wide open.
Please
8:37 *Gulp* Chelsea placed the sony down a little too hard there
I think that Chelsea should definitely watch some of Tony's videos about how gear doesn't matter
If you need to pixel-peep to tell the difference, maybe it's not worth several $K to change systems
and with all that's currently going on in the world you probably won't get enough use to justify switching now, best to wait until we settle into the "new normal" and reassess our needs
Gm is not sharp lens. Batis zeiss or viltrox 85 would have been a great comparison
Use High Speed Sync (HSS) next time to avoid blown out backgrounds, its too distracting. Shoot wide open, dock your ISO to 100. This was good Chelsea.
Bro she knows how to use HSS... Of course. As evidence, the F1.4 shots are at 1/640. She picked the ambient exposure she wanted very deliberately.
Apples and Pears come to mind.
What can I say ....if I could i would as well😃😄
Canon adds flippy screen, Chelsea stands on toes.
canon has had flippy screens at least since the rebel t3i.
@@rws531 I believe this is one of the first flagship cameras they added the flippy screen. I could be wrong though, no worries. : )
Typo in the title (a7III instead of a7RIII
I would love to own either the R5 or R6. I don't think I would ever change from Canon.
The way things are going, Canon might be the only camera company standing in a few years. (fwiw, I'm a Canon guy since the early 80's.)
@@davidho2977 considering sony makes the sensors for smartphones and can't keep up with the demand. Plus Nikon
I doubt their sensor/camera department would be in any trouble anytime soon.
Now take the winner and put it against the Z7 and 85 f1.8 S lens and be humbled and impressed
I would wait until the Z7II.
Cammackey and J. Marcus both own Z7s and prefer the R5.
It doesn't matter who prefers what if we don't know why.
