  • Dollar per gram more expensive than coke, but will it supercharge your bike? OK. That was a horrible analogy and I don't even know that it's accurate. But seriously, the filter holder is very expensive for a few pieces of aluminum. $130 and up. I do however REALLY like the pre-oil Twin Air filters. No muss nor fuss just clean air.

The metal screen on the stock filter cage has little metal tabs around the edge that hold the metal screen to the plastic cage. You can flip them up with a flathead screwdriver and the screen pops right out :)

WAY cheaper than buying the Twin Air

Awesome thanks John. Sometimes a small layer of grease around the base of the air filter helps to make a better seal against dust etc.

Tip. Don't worry about the "buckets" of cleaning stuff. Gallon ZipLoc bags are what I use to clean and oil air filters.

    Another good video, John!
Everytime I watch one of your videos, I'm usually walking around whistling your opening music for a couple hours, lol.
What's the next big mod you have planned?
Looking forward to a rebuild video (miles down the road).. maybe a valve check video?
    Have a nice day!

The Twin Air filter cage is $120 however if the engine inhales dirt from a botched plastic cage trying to remove the screen it is *THOUSANDS* as the cylinder (Nikasil)/crankshaft /valves/throttle body is all *sand blasted.* I have seen more race bikes/dual sports bikes have that happen and the money it takes to 'make it right' again ($120 is like $1 dollar). ✔ EDIT (air filter is the most neglected/oil-incorrectly (not enough oil) or NO oil at all. Working at Yamaha/Kawasaki shop.

The Honda cage just has four metal tabs you can bend back and the metal mesh will pop out. Takes about 10 minutes and you save 120 buckeroos.

I cannot seem to get mine seated properly, cannot get the foam even placed behind the lip on the intake housing, part of the foam seat ends up creased when I take it of again, any tips? Of course I don't have that horribly expensive twin air cage LOL

I've never been inclined to mess with the OEM air filter/box. I reckon the manufacturers have the most design experience on their machines, and this isn't something you want to get wrong.

    • @JohnTYoung

Pulling the cover is an instant 1HP gain, as dynoed. It also makes the bike a dB louder. Honda made the bike to be 50 states legal, not efficient or powerful. They did, however, make the cover come off very easily.
