After watching your vid, I was prepared for a rough day, particularly after my all day IMS tank install. However, it went relatively easy. That first bolt was a bugger but after using a ratchet strap around frame and seat, I was able to lower the linkage out of the way and the bolt slid right in. Used all the supplied bolts nothing extra. The hardest part was understanding the instructions which were close to useless. I don’t know why I am still surprised that these after-market parts come with such unintelligible directions, but I am amazed every time I try to decipher the code. As always, thanks for the help.
The aluminum skid plates can vibrate and give off harmonics/ vibration noise. That’s the noise manufacturers are referring to when they say the plastic is quieter.
Another worthy video John We love seeing someone actually doing and trying/testing products for us It's interesting and a whole lot cheaper than doing ourselves 😉 As far as noise goes, I think they are referring to the sound made by ricocheting rocks and stones thrown up by the front wheel on the trails 👍🏻
I liked the look and better protection coverage of black ASpec 👍 Easier to add a link guard than getting good coverage over the water pump... Great vid 👍
I like the Polisport clutch and ignition cover guards for my 450RL. They’re designed for the 450R but fit just fine with no modifications needed for the L/RL.
Thanks for the Video John; this helped me with my install. I think they fixed the hardware issue as all of mine fit perfectly. And I ended up with black as that's all I could find.

I think that the sound they're referring to is the resonating of the aluminum skid plate at higher RPMs. Whereas with the plastic you don't get the the resignate thing noise that the aluminum makes.
Hi again John T. I have a couple of questions about this skid plate (which I have fitted too). First, did you permanently remove the left side plastic engine cover, to provide access to the oil filter? Second, can you change the oil filter without removing the skid plate? I had such a hard time fitting this dang skid plate, I never want to remove it again!! If you did remove the plastic engine cover, did you replace the three mounting bolts with shorter versions? I've had a look and I think you can't just do without these bolts - I think they serve a mechanical purpose in holding on the metal crankcase cover. Finally, and unrelated, I see you did not use the Bajaworx screen on the COBDR. Have you discarded it? If so, why?
Yes, I have permanently removed the covers. Yes, you can access the oil filter without removing the skid plate. Yes, you can change the oil without removing the skid plate - check this out - ruclips.net/video/vCFzJiYHBTU/видео.html. You don't need the Works Connection EZ Oil Drain System, but it makes life a LOT easier. Yes, you have to replace ALL the bolts holding your side covers on. Lastly, the COBDR videos were shot before the Bajaworx windscreen had been installed. I am really bad at shooting and editing a video in any sort of timely fashion and useless at posting them in order. I have no plans to remove the windscreen, but I have modified it a bit. Video coming soon. Out of order. LOL. Thanks for the great questions! And double thanks for watching my antics.

Do you think that spacer is necessary? I’ve read that it’s for extra protection but I’m not a fan of how you have to wedge it in. I’ve seen the AXP skid plates for other bikes don’t have that spacer pressed up against the linkages like it is on the 450L.
Those bottom front screws that are not long enough, I missed doing. I was just looking and they go into the reserve coolant tank? I don’t like that idea at all. If you bash the skid plate it could also bugger up the tank holes and crack the tank. . I think the rest of the screws are more than enough to hold the plate on. I’ll be leaving those out.
Red for the Win. Love my AXP Skid. Smooth as butter over rocks, dirt clods, sand, you name it. Not sure on the "Quieter" bit but i can say having had an Alum skid on another bike it is 50% quieter hitting stuff and don't get that retched "Ping" when a rock gets flung from the tire
They need to redesign the rear mounting. If I take it off again, I’m gonna glue the nuts on, the screw I didn’t get in I’m just gonna get a bigger screw and screw it into the plastic hold with a bit of blue lock tight problem solved
That skid plate is pretty as heck, install though is not very easy at all, never did get that last screw in.You can’t get to it, it needs capture nuts, she’s tight though, they need a redesign for practicality.
Red is Ok with me. Looks like I’m in the minority. Somehow I missed the initial overriding reason you changed your bash/skid plate. Disappointed with the other or looking for weight savings?
Originally I was going to go wit the AXP plate. I liked the light weight, the linkage guard, that it was slippery plastic, even the color. Then I got the AS plate instead as part of a larger package. I thought of adding the linkage guard to the AS plate then thought "screw it", I should have gone with my gut the first time. So here we are. No good reason at all. LOL.
@@JohnTYoung tnx...I saw the other vid w/the oil change device; you never did an oil change just dropping plug? Curious because it almost seems like you'd NEED that device or oil would get everywhere?

It’s really cool; and I thought I would be able to use it to avoid removing the skid plate for oil changes. It works really well if just changing the oil; but, since I have not removed the plastic cover on the oil filter side of the case, I still need to remove the skid plate to change the oil filter, which I do at every oil change. Fortunately, the Works Connection skid plate is easy to remove and replace. I was feeling a little regret for not having purchased an AXP skid plate; but, after seeing your video, I am happy with one that is easier to remove and replace.
