You have a lot of integrity and character. Been watching for a while now. You are doing the best thing for your business. You sell what you believe in and stand behind them. In this case, it would be poor business to take this on and pass it on to someone else who follows your channel. Your business impresses me even more now than before! Thanks for being so transparent and honest! It will come back around for you-I believe that!!! Rick
I was a RV salesman in the early2000s in Central California I saw the underhanded stuff that happened to nice people. I even talked couples out of buying units because they had no idea what they were doing.
When we were buying our Winnebago Travato (campervan), we'd finished the paperwork, we were just there to pick it up and I was chatting with the sales guy and telling him about a huge 5th wheel we'd seen - I told my husband to be grateful he wasn't married to one of those wives who likes those big things. The sales guy said "It was a Thor. I won't sell.Thors. If I'm working with someone who has their heart set on one, I'll turn them over to another salesperson." And after buying my Travato and watching class videos, I came to understand what he was talking about. They're terrible! They have a lot of features with but boy! Do you get what you pay for - a lotta headaches.
I bought a Thor Motor Coach Palazzo 10 years ago. It's been an awesome motorhome. We enjoy our Palazzo so much! It does everything we want to do with it. We can do the same things in it that someone who bought a 250K+ RV. It's been a great experience!
First video of yours I see, but not the last. Integrity is worth much more than money. The fact that you would rather take a big loss than throw the dog on to the next person shows that you have integrity and in the long run it will pay off. Wish you the best.
I understand that Thor is in the business of making a product to a specific price point. But there are some things you just don't do if you are an honest company...and one of those is to use Swintec slide mechanisms on a full wall slide, even if you double up on them, they are not going to work for long. Even the other front slide is too big for a Swintec mech. Secondly, everything Thor touches becomes about maximizing the profit by reducing the quality. Look what they have done to Tiffin, a company, before them, had a long and lauded history of quality coaches because the people in charge felt that they should do it right or not do it. Let's just say that Thor has a different philosophy...and it shows.
I would've bought it for $25 Liz Amazing channel exposes RV manufacturer's, including Thor. Used to drink with Earl Hindman (Wilson) in Mexican bar in Burbank many years ago. 😊
Great video and that was very nice of you for doing the right thing. I liked and subscribed. The motor seems pretty strong in that thing and quite honestly it probably has a lot less problems than a lot of the newer ones right now. Something was nagging at you and you probably did the right thing so no regrets.
You hit the nail on the head about a Thor being what I can afford, if I could afford it I would buy a new Newell but I Love my 2018 40a Thor Venesian Diesel Pusher, I put 10,000 miles a year on it and do all the repairs myself, I bought it in 2020 with 5,000 miles on it for 180,000, I have small repairs to do after almost every long trip but no major issues.
Looks to me like a very sub-par inspection unless the inspection noted those issues and you purchased it anyway. Good video. We get to see other sides of being an rv dealer.
It’s not the in depth inspection you’re likely thinking of. He does great work for us. The problem is me not necessarily the coach. I shouldn’t have bought this unit to begin with. It sold again yesterday for $82,500 at auction.
Sir i love u as a dealer an would buy from u if i could afford it. but unfortually i will be a guy who must buy the cheaper coaches . but thank u so much for showing us how to look for issues . please make more videos like this .
Something my grandpa says has been imprinted on my brain; "The most expensive tool in your toolbox is the one you paid the least amount for". What impresses me the most about the man behind Sewell Motorcoach, it your integrity and honesty. I bet, 99% of used RV dealerships out there would have passed this headache waiting to happen on to the customer without batting an eye. In life as in business, the chiché "cut your losses short and move on" . Ms Heather hit the nail on the head 🤣!
I completely DISAGREE! Don't make excuses for manufactures like "price point". The manufacturer sells me a product with a claim of what it is supposed to do, and I agree to pay money. If I stop paying they take the RV back, and if it doesn't perform; they need to take it back. Don't tell me it's my problem because I didn't pay enough. I talked to a manufacturer rep once and he said "well... it's like they go through an earthquake every time they go down the road, so there will be issues". He got pissed when I said "If I build a house on a fault line, I'm building it strong enough to be on a fault line, or I would have to be a complete IDIOT".
Nailed it...always some pitiful excuse such as "...like an earthquake going down the road..." or on the user forums, the ubiquitous "every motor home has problems..." constantly letting the manufacturers off the hook for really poor quality. Some of the newer Class A's seem to be put together with silicone...and even so, not applied very well to hide it.
It’s been a while Doug but I had a chance to see this one and it really caught my attention. The fact that you are not retailing this speaks volumes about your ethics in business. I have always had faith and integrity in your company and you have just made everyone feel good about the standards you place around your business. You may have lost some money on this one but the fact that you are choosing not to sell it to the public gives you credence in so many ways. If I ever doubted you before then I was wrong and you’ve just proven that. You haven’t lost a penny as you have invested in yourself and your future customers. I’m willing to bet that your sales will increase in the not too distant future as people realise that the person they are buying from is both honest and willing to learn. I’m so proud of you for your business standards this tape should go viral. Much respect to you and your family 🥂👏🕊️⭐️💫
you feel good, due to it being a learning experience & you will NEVER make that mistake again, so, in a way, it saved you money moving forward with more purchases in the future!
Ouch! That one even hurt me to hear! We all make mistakes, I bought a Buick a few years back to re-sell knowing none of the windows worked, and I sold it that way, and yes I lost money on it! Enjoyed the video and thanks for your honesty.
Life lessons are the best teacher……moving on my friend you are going to forget this and the smile will return…..my old adage it a problem can be solved by money then it’s not a problem.
You would have been better buying my 2005 Monaco Exec 40PBDD. But i am not ready. I hear you loud and clear as a business owner sometimes we have to take a hit to learn lessons.
I am truly sorry for your loss. I, too have a 2014 Thor Tuscany 40 XT. But I made 2 mistakes in my purchase. The first was not having any knowledge of Thor's reputation of poor build quality. The second mistake was buying it from La Mesa RV. I told them the fridge was not getting cold when we went to pick it up. They said it would take a couple of hours to fix, so we went and had dinner. We came back and they said it is fine. Give it a couple of hours to cool down. It was late so we took it home. The fridge didn't cool down by the next day so I called them. They said "did you get it in writing that the fridge was working". Needless to say, it cost me over 2200 to have the fridge fixed. I use to take people to jail for stealing. We would be very happy with a Dutch Star or Mountain Aire if the budget permitted.
I owned two Tuscany’s the first one was a 2016 45AT beautiful Coach but made mistake of buying from Camping World new, kept it a year and unloaded it. Should have been a give away it took two months for them to get it ready for delivery. Second was a 2011 36ft Tuscany I bought from private individual it was a nice Coach I had to put some money into it but it was a good coach with a 380 Cummins. It got totaled in Tennessee mountains heading to Kentucky in 2018
Doug I don’t blame you I have the exact same coach and I feel so ripped off by the dealer I bought it from not to mention I’ve had to have all the slides rebuilt but it drives awfully wasn’t weighted out right. It now just sits in the garage and we don’t use it .
Its hard to blame Thor on the problems you covered in your video. I doubt that the RV smelled bad when it was manufactured and you mentioned the slides will eventually have issues. I own a 2019 Thor Aria and it has Schwintek slides that have never failed after 35,000 miles and 5 years of ownership. I wished they were hydraulic and yes, I expect them to eventually be a problem. I have owned a Holiday Rambler Imperial (great coach) and a Tiffin Phaeton. The Phaeton had similar issues to the Thor including sheared bolts on the Phaeton slide several times. What I liked about Tiffin was the quality of their dealer network and Tiffin factory service. My Phaeton slide failed on a weekend in Colorado and Bob Tiffin returned my call and walked me through the repair. I suspect Thor will hurt Tiffin's reputation with poor customer service. That's the biggest Thor problem in my opinion.
I didn’t blame Thor. Did you watch the whole video? I actually stick up for them. It’s simply a coach I decided to reject! Thank you for leaving a comment. All the best
But you're honestly, of not feeling well about resaleing it to a person, love how honest you are about everything you sell and do, great people and business, 👍
And yeah they do make lower price point stuff but they also breach the higher end with trash too. Look at those Omni/magnitude super C's with the same MSRP as Renegade and Dynamax
I agree. I took a chance on a '14 Tuscany. Freightliner chassis, 450 cummins, central vac, Aqua-Hot, etc. All the same components as a newmar. saved 30 to 50 thousand. No regrets.
I bought a Thor Vegas. It was a joke. Sold it as soon as I could. The Ford Drive Train was fine but plumbing, electrical (and the windshield wipers) were a nightmare. Endless repairs. Sold it and got just about all our money back which was great. Beware.
I feel like this video is you still processing this mistake/lesson, with all of the associated emotions. When your business is cruising, stay in your lane! Got it. Good stuff Doug, thanks for the candid bit of schooling.
100 positive comments 1d. Out. Integrity is VERY hard to find these days. NEVER let down, it will all come back to you. As mentioned by another comment i would if i could definitely buy from you, even driving from MI. Winnebago, is more our price point and IMO is WAY better quality than thor. Thanks for great videos. You and James better stick together too.
That's too bad it didn't go well for you buying that coach, even though l own a 2005 Mandalaymodel 40 E since 2017 it's been a nice comfortable coach and l haven't had much go wrong with it that hasn't been very expensive, just the usual things that wear out over time that you have no control over. After watching many videos and research on many RVs over the last 10 years l plan to buy an older Prevost hopefully in the next year and that will be my last RV Just use whatever rig you have and have a good time out there Keep on making those great videos Doug !!!
And Thor owns Tiffin now. Years ago we visited a mega motor home repair facility in CA...they had every high end coach you could drool over as well as some mid to entry level...we got to talking and I asked what entry level to mid level class a they would recommend based on their repair experience...they said, "whatever you do, don't buy a Thor."
Yes, Thor builds to a price point, however that price point is the same as what other manufacturers build. The problem with Thor though, is that they do an awful job at building them. So when you line a Thor up against a Fleetwood or Forest River of the same price level, the poor build quality shows tremendously! Good on you for getting rid of it. The problems all seem to be small, but they all add up. And you know you or a future owner are going to have more issues!
Doug I had to pay out of pocket for 2 new Porsche wheels for over $6k for a technicians mistake. The job was originally for only $650! It happens to everyone sooner or later.
Doughhhh. You, sir, are a better man than me. I'd be crying all the way to the bank. Just remember it's Thorn, not Thor and Thor was a god not every time you buy one you say oh god why. Lol. Lessons learned. Great video sorry you took that one in the shorts.
Hello go bye bye. This is one I would love to see James do the inspection. The safe side would be let it go. But the bottom line is that you just helped your future buyers.
We all suffer lapses in judgment from time to time. Thor is a terrible company. My wife always wanted a Tuscany, but I just didn't feel them. You are keeping your quality level for your customers, that is commendable.
Doug do you guys need help delivering and picking up motor homes? I’ve been a huge rv geek for many years now and even live and travel in my Newmar. I have a class a CDL use to drive semis and spent many years as a motor coach driver. With around 16 years of behind the wheel time accident free.
I’ve had losses as you and many many others but with the full wall slide out system it had I would have ran if I was a potential buyer. The paint chips and bad smell is no issue as you and I know. Well losing a bit over $15,000 is never good we’ll know going forward. Education in life. Yep.
This is what makes your business so successful. I am just curious, were you mad at your inspector ? Between the smell and the rusty screws on the slide I can't imagine taking a chance on a Thor !
Hey Doug, appreciate you for the valuable information. Too bad Thor owns Tiffin now too. Its like the RV industry is eating itself alive. Older is generally wiser for both humans and RVs.
Thor owns almost all of them. It’s the Tuscany that’s the lower end that Thor produces. Thor does not produce Entegra Tiffin airstream Jayco or the Montana.
rv have bugs somtimes there no gov over seeing the quality..next alot of probs on rv is people tryen to go off grid overland its made for a rv park its not 4x4 ...call az expert he'll fix it
Why? Were you too hungry and you lowered your standards? I used to flip houses. When I’ve gotten myself into this same situation where I buy a house that I realize, shortly after purchasing, is just gonna be trouble and a loser, hindsight clearly shows that it’s aways been when I’ve been too hungry for additional inventory and ignored some of my standards.
Hmmm....I can't help but think there is more to this Tuscany sell back than meets the eye. I get having a standard in your business model, but some of the Fleetwoods you have/had, Expeditions, Pace Arrows, etc., are not what I would consider an elite brand. Sure they are not an Integra, Newmar, CC, etc. So with all that, surely some prep work on that Tuscany would have put it is a sell condition. So I am back to square-one as to why you would take a 15k+ loss. It is indeed your decision to make, but with no major issues reported in this video (other than a strong smell), I am baffled. In any case, I enjoy your videos and how you work with AZ Expert too! Thanks for taking us along.....
I appreciate the comment! I’m a open book I could have easily fixed every issue. But even after that I don’t have any confidence in the coach! The problem lies in my decision to buy it in the great place. Huge mistake. I must be able to believe in What I’m selling. This coach didn’t build my confidence. I’ve sold some Thor products This one just isn’t for me.
I just don't get it. He says.... "I Bought a 🔥THOR🔥and instantly regretted it!!" And never really says what's wrong with the Thor.... did I miss something ?
He ls a salesman. The long convoluted word salad company sales pitch wasn’t about the Thor. It was about selling himself, implying integrity, his superior product line. Frankly a commercial. A+ job in my book.
Commend you in your integrity. By setting a excellent example for yourself. You set the example for your employees, suppliers, your future customers & your children. Everything does not revolve around making a dollar profit. You are miles ahead & much richer by your integrity & HONESTY. Excellent job & excellent business leader.
I just found this video. I'm not sure what was wrong with the Thor? I don't know anything about class A motorhomes. The slid had rust on it.. It's a 2015. Isn't that normal? I myself would not buy a full wall slide. I'm not to crazy about slides to begin with. Maybe for those of us who don't know anything about motorhomes. you might want to go into more detail. I would be interested in watching your video's if you did that, just saying.
You are an emotion based buyer. You ignored the smell and slides and the inspector missed issues or if they discussed the issues and data points with you, your emotions became dominant and you bought it against the facts, issues and your intuition. Emotional buying decisions are high risk endeavors. You do know better.
Bottom line you bought a piece of garbage an you realized your mistake an taking the hit because you don't want too lose your reputation you are doing the right thing nothing more nothing less I respect your decision well played young man
I've been a fan of yours for awhile my only question is why would you even consider buying anything built by Thor industry's that I can't understand at all Doug well Liv an learn I guess
Man… lots of red flags!! Foggy windows mean the seal is broken… and needs to be replaced… but bet it’s caused by faulty slide which is another red flag… I don’t even own an tv and never will… but my eyes are open thanks to RUclips …you’d benefit from learning…
Thor 🤦🏼 A full wall slide on a Schwintech is a no go for me. On anything. A small slide is ok but I’ve seen horrible failures on a full wall. Thor has a Facebook hate group 😂
I bought one from Thor 2023 brand new . It was junk I call 43 ford dealers to fix steering and brakes not one would ever look at it. It also needed interior work . The factory totally gutted the inside. Meanwhile I am making payments. While it was at factory and ford the unit got wrecked. Factory fixed it not telling us. Thor called said unit was fixed , we went to pick it up and I knew something was wrong the min I saw it. They said yes it got wrecked. I took Rv to Kentucky it had so many issues I traded it off. I lost 50 thousand. But I have had enough. Live and learn stay away from Thor.
You have a lot of integrity and character. Been watching for a while now. You are doing the best thing for your business. You sell what you believe in and stand behind them. You win some you lose some but your reputation is the most important
Wow I don’t know of one dealer that would admit that one bless you
Your reputation is enhanced by your humility!!!!!!

You're honesty is most refreshing amid all the falsehoods flying around the internet at this time.

Good to know your level of integrity.

We here at Sewell Motor Coach, have a 2019 Mountain Aire coming, we also has 3 Dutch Stars, 2016, 2015 and a 2019, the 2016 is an awesome coach
Like I always say, if the company is Thor, run for the door! Love you Doug. Sorry this happened.

Thank You Sir for Your rare high level of honesty. I think I now have a real caution from ever buying a Thor. I am sorry You got beat up in this deal.
What kind is the best one to buy I'm looking for a handicap motorhome class a diesel

After watching many videos and research on many RVs over the last 10 years l plan to buy an older Prevost hopefully in the next year and that will be my last RV
Just use whatever rig you have and have a good time out there
Keep on making those great videos Doug !!!
You can't buy a good reputation, and yours is still intact 🎉
Appreciate your honesty!!
I would never buy a Thor - or a brand owned by Thor.
The problem is that thor, winnebego etc are not standing behind their products which they are cheaping up all the time!
It's the same as a car -- I wish CarFax was into the RV world so we could see all the Tech notes.....
Yep.
Great reputations are not given their earned and you are earning yours.
This is what makes your business so successful. I am just curious, were you mad at your inspector ? Between the smell and the rusty screws on the slide I can't imagine taking a chance on a Thor !
Nah, he is a great guy and does a good job for me.
Totally all my fault
We have the same model but a year newer. We’ve had a few issues but nothing major. Sounds like you’re blaming Thor for a lackluster inspection!
Wining not helps..need go on..if you made a bad decision..i got scammed too..on few vehicles i bought..lost..10k$..
If it doesn't feel right don't do it, great dealer did not stick it the customer.
Thor does not produce Entegra Tiffin airstream Jayco or the Montana.
loose/lose must be the most common spelling mistake of all-time.
Good catch
I usually proof read those
But I changed the title last minute.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Evaporator for the A/C unit prone to MOLD & CRITTERS. Not sure if equipped with CABIN AIR FILTERS.......BUT..............
rv have bugs somtimes there no gov over seeing the quality..next alot of probs on rv is people tryen to go off grid overland its made for a rv park its not 4x4 ...call az expert he'll fix it
I really like the sound track at the beginning. What the name of that track?

I thought Thor owns Tiffin, does that mean Tiffin no good anymore?
Thor does own Tifffin
Maybe that’s a subject For another video🤓
Eww I run from Thors… I had my mom help me find my rig and I told her Thors were off the list no matter what.
Doug, how is it that the owner would buy it back? How often does that happen?
Watch the whole video sir
I bought it from auction through a dealer that I have a good relationship with.
I’m a open book
I could have easily fixed every issue.
But even after that I don’t have any confidence in the coach!
The problem lies in my decision to buy it in the great place.
Huge mistake.
I must be able to believe in What I’m selling.
This coach didn’t build my confidence.
I’ve sold some Thor products
This one just isn’t for me.
Doug you of all people know about Thor products and sadly it has affected Tiffin products now that they are a Thor product
@@Marcel1130
I don’t totally agree
But I do appreciate the comment
And I understand what your saying
I just don't get it. He says.... "I Bought a 🔥THOR🔥and instantly regretted it!!" And never really says what's wrong with the Thor.... did I miss something ?
He ls a salesman. The long convoluted word salad company sales pitch wasn’t about the Thor. It was about selling himself, implying integrity, his superior product line. Frankly a commercial. A+ job in my book.
Trust your instincts.
I have no idea what is good or bad.
Wow! What a great comment and such kind words.
Thank you.
Thanks Doug.
Wish I had more time in the day.
I really appreciate your point of view and your input.
You realize how easy it is to tamper with anything
When I saw the title, I was like, I know Doug Newmar Sewell didn't buy a Thor.
You know that saying opinions are like diapers they are full of you know what and always on your butt? Yeah, reminds me of a Thor 😂😂😂
Opinions remind me of a boss, you said the rest.
You are an emotion based buyer. You ignored the smell and slides and the inspector missed issues or if they discussed the issues and data points with you, your emotions became dominant and you bought it against the facts, issues and your intuition. Emotional buying decisions are high risk endeavors. You do know better.
I'll take it !
Right!!
I was hoping you coins answer that question for me!
My only guess was greed😬
JK
DEFINITELY A LAPSE IN JUDGEMENT
My bro bought one back to the factory paint bubbling…. junk
Put a bag open of coffee. Take out the smell.😊
The three “T’s” prevail here. If it has Tits or Tires, it equals Trouble.
Real talk
Man… lots of red flags!! Foggy windows mean the seal is broken… and needs to be replaced… but bet it’s caused by faulty slide which is another red flag… I don’t even own an tv and never will… but my eyes are open thanks to RUclips …you’d benefit from learning…
Those that take the risks make the rewards. Unfortunatley this one did not work out.
Thor 🤦🏼 A full wall slide on a Schwintech is a no go for me. On anything. A small slide is ok but I’ve seen horrible failures on a full wall. Thor has a Facebook hate group 😂
I read way too many problems with those Schwintech slides.
