    I accidentally called this the BL30, but it's BL50, I don't know where 30 came from! Also, there is a lockout mode which is accessed by triple pressing either button whilst the light is turned off. Corrections complete...
    What do you think of this light and what Imalent would you recommend I take a look at next?

    I just got this. My weirdest light. But the quality is excellent. The UI is definitely funky. Can't use it as a EDC. This will be a backpack light.

      Is the UI the main thing holding you back from EDC use? I agree with the high quality but weird, well put!

    Thanx for the review!
    I would like to see 3 small RGB LEDs in the lower front instead of the single UV LED! I also agree with you on the clip - it should have a clip. A magnetic flap for the charging port would be nice also.

    • @gearedforward

      I'm happy you enjoyed it! And I like your suggestions, but i think there'd be room for two models, one RGB and the other UV, it can be handy to some folks. The magnetic cover would be a lot better than that fat bit of rubber.

    what charger do you use to charge it? and what power charger would you advise to use

    • @gearedforward

      I'm not fussy with the chargers I use, I mostly use the quick charging brick I got with my Oppo Reno back in 2019 tbh. If you were looking to buy an adapter, then I'd recommend a GaN charger from Anker, just be aware that chargers get pricey when you get into higher wattages and GaN.

      4.5A which is 22.5 watts max. However, you can use any modern chargers because they have a handshake protocol on how much wattage a charger should send to the device connected.

    Any outside shots in the dark? I’m interested in this imalent BL50 and the Imalent LD70 but don’t know which is better/brighter. Thanks in advance!

      I'll record and post a short trying to show it off outside at night this weekend. As for between the Bl50 and the LD70, as far as I remember the LD70 has a bit brighter turbo, but otherwise (on paper, I haven't handled the LD70), I think the BL50 is the superior light.

      I've been through 2 LD70's & bought 1 as a gift for my brother... all 3 died within around 6 months :/ such a fun little light with amazing power but they just don't last, it's just too powerful for it's size, 2 of them had overheating issues even with very irregular quick usage and wouldn't turn on again & 1 stopped being able to charge for no reason (tried multiple cables but it was the flashlight itself that didn't want to charge, very bad proprietary charging system) i would spend the extra money on the BL50 slightly less powerful (4K lumens is kinda silly in 99% of scenarios anyway so i almost never used the boost), slightly bigger body for better heat dissipation & a much better universal charging system!!!!
      however since i'm kinda done giving imalent anymore money i don't think i'd personally risk it again, i'm probably gonna go for the new Olight Baton 4

      @@JYMBO I'm sorry that you had such a bad run with the Imalents! I've never had an Olight conk out on me, so hopefully your new Baton treats you well, I recommend the charging case!

    Could you leave it fully charged for a week and see how much the battery has dropped? The problem I've come across is that if you leave them on the shelf, the parasitic draw from the display will drain the battery. Thus making it ok for EDC but not for an emergency light you can chuck in a drawer and expect it to be charged when the power goes out :) Iv'e got a great power bank from Anker that goes dead in a couple of months for the same reasons.

    • @gearedforward
      @gearedforward  3 месяца назад

      I suspect the electronic switches are probably at play here as well but that's a good test! I'll charge it up now, leave it alone, and update you in a week. :)
      I tend to like lights that I can manually lock out with a partial turn for emergency lights, then it's just down to how well the cell keeps its charge!

    • @gearedforward
      @gearedforward  3 месяца назад

      Hello again! To be honest I forgot about this, so it's been ten days instead of a week. After 10 days the battery has dropped to 4.09V down from 4.2. So the parasitic drain is certainly real and you couldn't store this for a prolonged period of time and then still rely on it like you could some other lights.
      That said, the battery is still high enough that I wouldn't worry about general use at this point, the battery is still charged enough to enter Turbo (3600lm) after ten days, with most use being much lower outputs. I'd say maybe top it off every couple weeks, but I'm already in the habit of maintaining my lights in this way.

    Really interested then you mentioned built in battery.
    Sorry i cant justify spending high amounts on something that after couple of years goes in the trash when tue battery lige is over. Thankfully the eu has ruled that all gadgets including phone etc will have to have user replaceable batteries . So we should see less of this disposable culture specially on something that should be able to function for years to come.despsite that rant great vid have subbed

      Thanks for watching and welcome to the Geared Forward family!
      I can understand not liking integrated batteries,they don't bother me personally,but I get it. For what it's worth, based on the shape of the light I'd imagine it's a standard sized cell and probably replaceable, just less than ideal.

      @@gearedforward ye the battery is 18650 3000mAh but the question is: is it possible to dismantle the flashlight to replace the battery :D

    • @gearedforward
      @gearedforward  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@WRATH1 Yeah it has what looks like small hex bolts, I'd imagine it'd be as simple as popping the tail switch section off to access it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a soldered cell though, and I'd imagine it'd void the warranty, though by the time this is necessary I'd think that would have expired anyway.

      Runtime would be a big upgrade, it'd be nice if there was a % option instead of just the voltage too, I imagine for a lot of folk the voltage wouldn't be intuitive.

    recoment 1 for me from imalent, this, ld70 or ms03

    • @gearedforward
      @gearedforward  2 месяца назад

      I'd say either the BL50 or the MS03, the former is a better size for EDC but the latter has the power of a 21700 behind it. The girth of the MS03 would make it difficult to pocket carry outside of a jacket, so it's really just how you want to carry them and how much power you need.
