I highly recommend using your bare hands when applying leather conditioner just like he did, it helps you rub it in better, get it in the nooks and crannys and as a plus it also makes your hands nice and soft. True story the tip of my thumb was cracked pretty bad and after conditioning my boots the conditioner actually helped heal my cracked thumb.
That's actually pretty neat. What kind of leather conditioner do you use? So far I've used the leather conditioner by applying it to a small sponge or damp clothwipe
Use the naked fingers for conditioners. Bick4 is my most used on foogwear that does not get abused. For those boots mink oil. Mink oil darkens leather. For crap work abused boots I want water staying out. Mink oil is about the best. Casual shoes and boots get the Bick4. It has to be applied more frequently because it is not a heavy oil, but does work well. I use it on all horse tack, saddles, bags, etc.
Fact. My cuticles crack and peel all the time when I get into sand or anything that dries them. Before doing lawn or woodwork, I always condition my boots by hand and then get a nice coat of Obenauf's leather conditioner rubbed into my hands before putting on my gloves.

How can you correct (or prevent) the separation of the sole at the toe? I'm interested in this shoe but want to make sure the sole won't be separating after a year of regular use.
Great vid. I’ve got two pairs of Sagara boots myself, they’re phenomenally well made and a great value. I think they’ve got an ongoing discount with Stitchdown where you can get ten percent off. By the way, sole separation is super common for wedge soles and not indicative of poor quality- that middle layer of rubber is stitched, while the outermost layer is glued on. Easy fix.
I had some Sorel boots with tread like that and a similar style - they were my favourite boots for comfort but in the wet mud on a hike there was no grip and I slipped many times until I changed to boots with better grip ( but sadly not Sorel).
Good video. However, are you going to put some sort of shoe goo on the front tip of the sole where it’s coming apart? That was not addressed in the video. Just wondering.
I honestly think they purposely did everything in the wrong order to trigger boot fans. The wax of the cream polish and VSC would prevent renovateur and VSC from penetrating into the pores. Maybe they found that wax first and solvent second makes the shell absorb wax better
Few questions: how long does it take to clean boots like this? How much would you charge? Was the outsole on the toe separating? Should that be fixed somehow? Love your channel!!
Those look like some amazing boots. In going to have to pick up a pair someday. Never even heard of that brand as I usually just stick with red wings. Really like the way these look though.
They are from Indonesia. Not sure if you know but that country has a lot of good quality bootmakers. The only downside is for most of them you have to order through instagram or whatsapp.
This boots cost less half of red wing... In Indonesia many brands like txture, daedalus, santalum and others have been reviewed by other channel named stridewise
Have you considered a BRAUN Electric Toothbrush? Small rotating head should do the trick for a lot of applications. Even a Childs electric one would work.
Those are an incredibly looking boot style wise, of course I’m sure they’re very functional as well. If they made them with a lesser quality leather and made some cuts cost wise I’d buy them at like half the price, like a budget version. I just love the look and style. Most expensive boots I own right now is 400something and I generally don’t like to go above 500.
Very good video but I would put either Venetian or Renovatuer (both serve the same purpose) before applying Saphir Corodvan shoe cream as the former may remove the pigment if applied after shoe cream. Just my personal experience.
The outsole is coming off the rubber midsole. The shoe is connected to norwegian handwelt -> leather midsole -> rubber midsole -> rubber outsole. He could reattach it with some cement because the treads look find but rubber outsoles only cost $6-12. A resole replacing one layer would cost around $30-40.

Found a pair of shell cordovan dress shoes at a second hand store a few years ago. I have big and fairly wide feet but they managed to fit me like a glove. Went to clean and restore them and realized that Shell Cordovan is a completely different animal than leather. Literally, it's made from the armored covering from a horse's ass which is tough enough to block things like sword blades and arrows. Best tip I ever found for cleaning it was to just use Windex and a moist rag and dry the excess off with a soft brush. It doesn't absorb most leather conditioners but it can be waxed and shined. It's almost glossy enough without it though and it definitely doesn't get as dirty if it's all gunked up. True talk on putting in extra work on the welt though. That's what makes good pair of footwear actually last longer. 👌
