    Many a trucker saved my butt when traveling on unfamiliar mountain roads. I would get a good distance behind them, when they sped up or slowed down I followed suit. Also kept me from getting speeding tickets.

      Yes following a trucker in unfamiliar conditions is a no brainer. I will initially come close enough to the truck I wish to follow so the driver can identify me. I want him to know I am not a highway patrol. Then I will back off to a respectful distance and follow. My uncle was a truck driver who taught me, old school respect and sense with sharing the road with trucks. Here is some advice he would be happy to hear me share.
      People, when behind a truck and trailer, always stay at a distance where you are able to see at least one of his/her mirrors. That means they can see you. Thank you Uncle Les Fritch. He is gone but not forgotten.

    It's cool you truckers give Obama credit for all the lives saved by those regulations. That's really nice of you! I am a big fan of not being killed by some sleepy cowboy, just because some beer HAD to get to Denver...

    OMG! MIKE U HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THIS 1 PARTICULAR VIDEO MEANS THE WORLD TO ME!🥲 Because 2 of the trucks u happen to pass were family that aren't here any more, and when I saw the company on the trailer I slowed the video down to see what trucks, 🥺😢
    The 1st 1 was Brother and the 2nd 1 was Dad. They were on their way home that night cuz my nephew was born so they were trying to get home as fast as they could but u know I 70 and snow LOL. Cuz it was brother's son that happened to born early so my dad met up with him to make sure that he made home that night. Which they did, it was just few months later we lost my brother and then dad 2 months later they both were home then too. Thank you so much for making this video, now I have a video that I can show my nephew how Daddy and GPA were racing too get home to see u on the night he was born thats going to be very special since we shut down the company after Dad passed away. So, once again, THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! YOU JUST MADE THE START OF THE NEW YEAR A VERY BRIGHT ONE FOR ME, MY FAMILY IS GOING TO FLIP THEIR WIGGS LOL WHEN I SHOW THEM THIS!! THANK YOU MIKE FOR GIVING US 1 LAST TRUCKIN CLOSURE! GOD BLESS YOU, ND KEEP YOU SAFE OUT THERE, KEEP ON A TRUCKIN SEE YA ON THE FLIP SIDE MUCH LOVE❤🥲

    Hey Mountain Man,
    @30:00 I don't hear you talk too much about the double and triple trailers, other than to call them Rocky Mountain doubles. What's the deal with those? Where are they legal, how much can they haul, do they fit on scales, what's it like to drive them, how do they handle in weather and wind, etc? I remember years ago there was a lot of chatter about legalizing them in certain states. I guess they're allowed on the roads now, but I don't really know too much about them.
    Maybe you can share some insights into how they handle.
    Keep on rolling!

Not a problem for you truckers but a BIG issue for motorcyclists going cross country. If I ever get out that way I'll have to keep it in mind and not forget. What kind of range do you normally get out of your truck? Fuel capacity? Great video as usual. Peace!

    I have enjoyed your videos for a while now. But you calling the DOT driving regulations Obama's clock more than a bit misleading your viewers. 98% of the DOT drive time regulations were written and in effect before Obama became president. I know, I drove OTR. I was trained in 2009, same year Obama took office and those driving hour regulations had been in place for years before I was trained. While I couldn't care less what anyone's political leanings are, but calling it Obama's clock is just an outright lie. You do the trucking industry a disservice making those kinds of statement.

    There were 4,657 large trucks involved in fatal crashes in 2017, a 10% increase from the year before, according to a May report issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, an agency of the Transportation Department. Sixty of the truckers in these accidents were identified as “asleep or fatigued,” although the National Transportation Safety Board has said this type of driver impairment is likely underreported on police crash forms. If truckers were not so stupid, we wouldn't have needed the Obama clock.

    • @carlwiltse3909
      @carlwiltse3909 Год назад

      Nunya, I know I'm two years behind here on commenting, but the ignorant are ignorant of their ignorance. You prove this! Before the "Obama clock", drivers could stop & sleep whenever they got tired at any time of the day & not lose driving hours. Now drivers have to keep going straight through no matter what to drive their hours, they cannot stop to rest or they lose that driving time, the clock keeps going even if the driver stops, so they lose those hours that they stop to rest. In the time before the "Obama clock" if they shut down when they were tired, they didn't lose those hours because they counted as time off, then when they resumed driving the clock would start up again, not resulting in lost hours. So, before you open your bullshit spewing mouth & calling truck drivers stupid, maybe try doing some research first! You've shown who is truly stupid here, & it sure isn't the truck drivers!
      Yes, I drove truck for years, am retired now though. So yes I know what I am talking about.
