    Professor Jacques, you have once again helped us to understand this watershed point in history that shows the stark contrast between The East and The West and how they responded to COVID-19 and the subsequence results are stunning and long-lasting. Even with the vaccines have finally come on board we don't see any clear path in sight for the uneven distributions and largely hoarded by the G7 nations, the developing nations are left floundering on their own. If China didn't step in to help, many nations would continuously spiral out of control. In the meantime, Trump is still busy sanctioning the underprivileged and war-torn nations even in his last days. So your analysis is timely and helps us to ponder what lies ahead.

    • @Shenzhou.
      @Shenzhou. 3 года назад +1

      Agreed. Canada even prebought enough Covid-19 vaccines for 5-7 times its population. Imagine 1 Canadian having access to 5 vaccines, whereas elsewhere, 10 Africans have to fight over 1 vaccine. That's capitalism at work, where the capitalists hoard all the scarce resources for themselves.
      Communism is the belief that every scarce resource should be allocated *according to needs.* As the Marxist saying goes: _"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."_

    Last week Chinese engineers revealed a high temperature super-conducting magnetically levitating train that can travel at 600km/ph., this was less than a month after igniting an artificial Sun and a successful Lunar sample return mission - in the middle of a pandemic. Meanwhile the Arecibo observatory in Puerto Rico has been abandoned to the elements and food runs short in post Brexshit Britain.
    The West outsourced its technological know how and industrial capacity to cheaper workforce countries(mostly China) long ago - this has nothing to do with viruses or black swan events like 2008. This is the result of Capitalists chasing easy profits, and 'all' the liberal voices that spurred on these fucking go-getters. Its the ordinary people of the West that carry this burden now and for generations to come.

    Many goverment leaders in the world are not working for their people , but working for their own future political career . So in turn their people are the one’s suffering .
    They do things very slowly with debates and lots of opinion . And also afraid to make mistakes . So they tend not to do anything at all . No goverment is perfect , we rate them by overall performance and not by the little mistake the made . They should make their people happy and wealthy . And not just make the headlines a hot topic to debate .

    This pandemic will end the myth of liberalism that man can live without a strong government, and that man can live without caring the poorer sectors in his country and beyond.

    MJ: "Western societies have displayed a fundamental lack of resilience." "The pandemic has been a test of governance." "2008 Financial crisis - the Western economies contracted and took a long time to recover, there was a loss in trust in governments, the govt elites and the political systems, the rise of nationalism and populism - yet the crisis was still far less damaging than the pandemic. What kind of damage might be wrought on the West in the wake of the pandemic? Weakened economies, abject failure of governments, reduced living standards, mass unemployment, heightened inequality, the loss of hope and a young generation that has lost out badly. Western societies will be highly troubled, unstable, riddled with conflicts, inward looking, volatile and unpredictable. The long term consequences will dominate the West that we cannot foresee now."
