GOOD NEWS! I tried this WITHOUT shrink wrap and IT WORKS BETTER! So much easier! You just need to make sure to tape all sides around the handle. I had PERFECT mugs!
Wow! How great is this? Thanks for always being there testing stuff out for us - CrystalAnn with Design Bundles just did a video yesterday 2/21, using an inkjet printer, on Best, and then applied the design to a cotton t-shirt - color was superb - then she turned right around and washed it which I think she should have waited 48-72 hours - so perhaps these projects will be less expensive to create one of these days
Love this. Side note, you can also change the template to a regular cut (not a print and cut) to let Cricut cut a test template out to check your size.
Thanks Angie ! I looked all morning on how to make the printing larger and all the videos skipped that till I sat down to watch you make mugs lol thanks again, it was very helpful !
Hello - thank you - each time i watch your videos - i learn more and more about printer, cricut & how to do the correct way for megs press... thank you for doing these vidoes
Hi Angie and thank you sooooo much for this video! I bought Hobby Lobby's sub mug with a handle and it's just a little wider than the norm so not a good fit for the Cricut Mug Press; I have an attachment that goes with my heat press but was not ready to tackle that feat either so I wanted to see about sublimating it in my sub oven with a shrink wrap and low and behold your video was right on point. The only issue I was having was the width with handle was not going to slide down the sleeve so I had to cut along seam about half way then fit it around mug and tape the heck out of it underneath the handle as you did and of course the end where it was slit. To assure a snug fit, I used my silicone bands on top of and under the handle after shrink wrapping it and voila! It came out fantastic and it was a birthday for my daughter's teacher. Whew!!! I want to make more now. 🤣🤣🤣
Angie, you and your tutorials are awesome. I’m so glad that you provided us with a template as I was shopping around trying to find one. I have been having so much trouble getting a mug to come out good in the new convection oven I purchased and my shrink wrap always melts. You are a savior.
Now I’m going to have to invest in an oven! Damnnnn. 😂 I really need to stop watching RUclips or start selling some items to keep up with all these cool ideas and tips! Thanks Angie! I love your channel!
Thank You, Angie!!!😊. This is awesome. Two new addition to the Cricut crafting world (larger print-then-cut and your demonstration of how to sublimate under the mug handle as well. You are the best.🎉🎉🎉❤
Great Video. I just ordered a sublimation oven, epson ecotank printer and sublimation ink. Also gathering supplies. I saw the shrink sleeve link in the comments, but it did not work. I want to order some to have on hand because I am definitely going to do some mugs. Can you update please? I don't want to order something that may not work well for mugs. Even if the website is no longer working, maybe the size dimensions for the shrink sleeving will put me in the ballpark. Love your videos and watch them to help me learn more. I just did a full purge of my craft room and reorganized. My reward to myself was purchasing equipment for sublimation. So psyched! I purchased the PYD Life mini oven. Thought that would be the best option since I can do most all the stuff without having several pieces of equipment and getting more bang for my buck (that's the Scottish in me LOL).
Hi Angie- Can you do a video on how to wrap 20 oz skinny tumblers with handles? The handles are more square/rectangular. Also, do you have a video on how to change edges where the template meets to blend better or how to turn it into a seamless design? Thank you! Love your videos! They are all easy to follow and very helpful!
Hi Angie, thanks for the great content! This is so clever. In looking at best selling mug wraps, I'm seeing the sizes of the wraps really vary, both in the 11oz and the 15oz. I'm looking making and selling wraps and not sure what size is optimal, especially for people making their own mugs. I'd really appreciate any thoughts you might have on that. Thanks so much!
Yea there are so many sizes. The issue really is that mugs vary depending on the brand. Not sure how you can really find something that will work for every mug that exists!
You could use the heat shrink and place it in a mug press with butcher paper to protect the press. The mug should transfer enough heat and the shrink wrap should provide the pressure to the under handle area. It would be worth an experiment.
You must have been reading my mind on how to do a full wrap. Thank you, great video. Have you tried any of the silicone wraps instead of the shrink wrap?
This is awesome. Thanks for the template. I will definitely be trying this. Now, if only Cricut Design Space would allow for ICC profiles in the printing.
@@AngieHolden Unfortunately, this did not work at all. If I print with Photoshop and select the ICC profile it works perfectly. Following the instructions to add the profile in colour management, etc., did not work at all. I'm not sure why not. I followed the directions exactly and the profile is showing under the printer with colour management as the default.
Thank you for the great videos, but I'm giving up on trying full wrap - have ruined so many mugs and no progress. I tape the paper down all around before using the shrink wrap and get it as tight as I can around the handle and then tape again and apparently it's not tight enough to make the print stick. I have no problem with the paper and mug when I do in heat press, so know it's not that and have no problem with tumblers in the convection oven. Could be partially time and temp, but near the handle no design is transferring at all so think it's the pressure. Oh well... on to something else and toss the remaining 20 color handle mugs.
@@AngieHolden it transfers in the main part of mug, just not around the handle and is lighter or non existent going from handle to middle of mug so that's why i think it's not tight enough around the handle even though it's taped down
Wait, so have to print this on legal size sublimation paper, right? The link to the paper you put in the description is letter size which is making me second guess myself.
I'm in the UK and pulling my hair out. I use Cricut design space and I bought some sublimation mug paper 3.5" by 9". I set my printer as user defined for the paper measurements 3.5" by 9" and page orientation to portrait. What's confusing me is the paper settings in Cricut when I send it to make it. Do I set this as A4 document, or legal document. I tried setting it to A4 then loading my mug paper in my Epson printer but some letters are missing. 😢
You never want to cook food in any oven that has been used for sublimation. However you can use a small convection oven or even an air fryer. You can see more here: ruclips.net/video/UJMTSDMbCWc/видео.html
Hi Angie, I love all your videos and hoping you can help me please. I have the EPSON ET-3830 printer that I converted to sublimation ink. My color works fine but now having an issue with just printing black. I normally only print color prints so never noticed it. I tried everything that I looked up online to see if it was clogged. I did all the maintenance. Any suggestions. Trying to make a mug for Easter. My black prints are streaking. When I do the test prints there are breaks in the lines.
Thinking of getting a mug heat press. Do you have to use sublimation? I really dont want to buy more ink or even another printer. Please let me know..Thanks
The instructions for the PYD Life oven tell me to bake a mug for 11 minutes at 392 degrees and you only baked yours for 7 minutes. Does that time change with different brands of mugs?
Even following this method I get a lot of ghosting. I use a conventional Oven and thinking maybe I should change ovens. i seem to get ghosting on everything i sublimate in the oven.
this is an amazing thing thank you so much.!! Angie I watched and downloaded the free canva template with hello gorgeous wrap but I use inkscape can this wrap be utilized on it ?
They should work on regular paper. Sounds like you need to check your printer settings. Be sure that actual size is picked or print at 100%. NOTE: If you are using Cricut Design Space as I have shown you may need to print on 8 1/2 x 14 paper if you are doing two per page.
May I ask a question? Could you trim down a thin silicone wrap so that the shape mirrors your template? It seems like the silicone wrap heats up significantly when I use it on tumblers in the cricut mug press., so would it be hot enough to activate the sublimation ink under and around the handle, even though the handles sticks out of the press??

@@AngieHolden it transfers in the main part of mug, just not around the handle and is lighter or non existent going from handle to middle of mug so that's why i think it's not tight enough around the handle even though it's taped down

Generally no because the coating can be so inconsistent there.

Hi Angie. What was the setting for the over and can I use those same settings for a convection oven?
I generally use 350 degrees for 7 minutes. That is a good place to start but each oven can vary.
I don't think that would work? I don't think you would get the pressure or heat needed.
