Years ago, before he died, I would regularly take my father for a drive when he was in the grip of Alzheimer's and play the Mills Brothers on the car cassette player. He could sing all the words to every song and not miss a beat. They have a special place in my heart. That's the power of great music.
This story brings tears of happiness and joy and deep heartfelt sorrow to me. I discovered them as a youth right at the height of Beatle mania and have loved their incomparable “sound” ever since. I know I always will.
The Mills Brothers Story was a beautifully made series. From the opening title through the closing episode. Can’t wait to continue on the episode #2. Thank you for the post. Your work is appreciated.
I never thought of thanking You Tube, but thank you. It is only because of this service that I can find all the stars of yesteryear. The Mills Brothers were certainly a class act.
Don't thank YT -- it exists not to help people but to make money. Thank the uploaders who care enough to share things -- it takes a lot time to find and upload stuff.
Oggi artisti di questo calibro, di questa capacità e armonia non si trovano nemmeno se li creassero con la robotica! I cantanti di oggi nemmeno si avvicinano a questi bravissimi artisti. Grazie per aver condiviso questo bellissimo filmato.
My grandfather played this music as I was growing up. Always have loved their sound/s. Didn't Ella Fitzgerald learn from them to make the sounds of the instruments? Has "their heir's" picked up the talents? Hope so. Thank you for providing the history of this family. I'm 75 yrs. and still love to listen to their music
Ohio's own...MILLS BROTHERS!!! Thanks for the video series. There may never be another group of singers like them. However, it's always great to hear records (both personally and on radio), and see movies/movie shorts, and television footage of that wonderful group of men who contributed to the development of American popular music. And what a way they had with it.
I have worked with my brothers for almost 50 years. I do not regret one minute. We had Some arguments- some hot ones. But we never separated in the end. Never.
@BrianandChristine1210 I'm 54, aren't the Mills Brothers awesome?? So one of my favorite collections is: The Mills Brothers and the Mellow Years... Gold Medal Longines Symphonette "Living Sound" 5 Record Set My FAVORITE renditions of these beautiful songs 💜
WOW!!!! They are exquisite!!!! They are often honoured by the BEE GEEs - as their very early influence in music, esp with their harmonies, because their dad, Mr Gibbs, was a Drummer and Band Leader, in the '40s, and brought home many Mills Bros records. Now l know who they were - beautiful human beings and musicians.
They had beautiful voices just talking! Listen to the resonance! They were a loving gift from God! Every good and perfect gift comes from God. And they were perfect!
It's amazing that even when they were well over 60 they still had such great technique (and such gorgeous voices) -- I'm not being ageist, just noting that singers' voices degrade over time, so their control is, no pun intended, breathtaking. Thanks for sharing this.
The longevity and powerful talent , y couldn’t equal this in style today. To be familial in structure as to group , many indeed , could not maintain structure . Power and elegant presentation. 🥰😍😇😇😇👍🧕🏿🦹🏾♂️👌🏾
The mills Brothers manager Henry Miller of General Artist Corp. Mailed me a copy of this show in 1990 right before it was broadcast on Pbs. Knowing myself and many other musicians in Cincinnati backed up the mills many times when they were in town. They were God given sweethearts to work with. Summer of 90 a few of us went to their family reunion in piqua. Donald was the only one left by then, dressed in golfing garb it was great to see him again. By 99 the mills Brothers were just a beautiful memory. Chip and his dad did a fantastic job unbelievable.
I must have seen them around that time. I was about 12 and definitely the youngest person there. As I recall, it was a Mills brother, a Mills son, and a Mills nephew. The Mills Bros. were all my parents played, and I was transfixed.
@@andycatherene you saw Donald, his son chip, and his other son Allen. They worked together from 84 to 90. What Donald had his leg removed because of diabetes. Then Donald passed in 99.
Boy these interviewers can really be clueless LOL Called them barbershop. I have been listening all of my life and never thought of them as barbershop. Just great harmonizers with heart. Not corny like barbershop.
Growing up,we were only allowed to listen to The Mills Brothers. Born in Piqua, raised in Bellefontaine, our late father played high school football with Donald Mills in the 1930’s,at Bellefontaine High School. When they had an out of state gig, they would call our late Uncle Russell to escort them into the back roads of town. Uncle Russell would drive his car at night ,pick the Mills Brothers up ,take them home. They would get their car later because the townspeople wouldn’t give them any peace. They would be home, and no one would know it. 😂 The greatest talent came from Ohio,The Mills Brothers,Dean Martin.Doris Day,Phyllis Diller,Nancy Wilson.
I WAS NOT BIRN DURING THEIR TIME BUT I LVOE THIS FOR SOME REASON I KEEP LOOKING UP 29TH CENTURY MUSICIANS AND MAN THESE CATS ARE GRET, TO DAS THERE IS NOT A DOCUMENTARY ON THEM .
I think my Dad who was a fan of the Mills Bros. and he thought Harry was always blind which I don't know about. When Harry was on T.V. he always looked sighted but who knows? Harry sure lost a lot of weight when this video was filmed.
joe welnack Harry had diabetes later in life and by the end he was completely blind... this video wasn’t made too long before he died so I would imagine he was blind or close to blind during the filming of this.
I would love to have heard the dialogue but the background music was overpowering… happens so often with video producers. Shame I love the Mills Brothers. They were outstanding musicians
For me, I'm a great admirer of the Mills Brothers. I put it down to "good taste" But, I'm not sure that carrying on into the 70s and 80s was a good idea. Sure, if people were prepared to pay money to see them, but I can't help thinking that in the last years they should have retired.
John Hutchinson does not look anything like the people he is claiming to be a related to. I think I seen this before with Muhammad Ali. And Michael Jackson sad.
Amazing how their voices didn’t fall off as they aged. Classy gentleman.

Could listen to them all day long! They were my parents music, I was all Beatles and Led Zeppelin, but the older I get good music is good music!
They were all born with Stunningly Beautiful voices, talking OR singing
They were class personified a perfect singing group
Some of the best vocal harmonies ever throughout the decades!
From the 20's on!
They were my dad’s favourite/ feeling nostalgic for my dad, so this fits my just fine. Thanks for posting this!

They made so many people happy and i will cherish them forever i love The Mills Brothers
The coolest most laid back singing group ever. Thanks for the memories.

These guys were truly amazing! A huge influence on so many including my personal favorite singer, Dean Martin.

They were even on the charts in 68 with Cab Driver. What a gift they still are.
This is why I love RUclips. Thank you for uploading this.
Me too.

The Incomparable Mills Brothers. It just doesn't get any better than this. Harry was really somethin.
The Mills brothers were born and raised in my home town of Piqua, Ohio. There is a monument on the public square honoring them.
I'm from Piqua too, they're really something special
@Daxton Madden You are a swine
@Nick Taco my father's favorites. Made me appreciate them A LOT. Beautiful music.
The Mills Brothers were absolutely amazing! I'm 53 and just discovered them this year. I wish I would have found them decades ago! Great music

Thank you for the Bee Gee's connection. Outstanding!
I had the privilege of attending their shows in Vegas in 1950

They are the best...
All time greatest vocal group
Great to watch this, reminds me of my father and family as a child thank you,
There's so much to say that I don't know what to say. They make me want to find a barbershop quartet organization and join it. I love "Nevertheless."
what speaking voices!
Wow. Been looking for this for years. Had in on VHS in the late 90s but lost it. Thanks!
All of them could have made a fortune as voice over artists or audio books. Man were they good. NEVER bet agains family harmonies.
Outstanding!
April 2023 🙏🏻🙏🏻🇨🇦
Beauty of music
Don and Harry Mills,Don and Phil Everly..Two great brother pairings.
Great performers a class act

I mentioned that they were from Lima, Ohio and I stand corrected I meant Piqua. Great family and entertainers. 😅
Too bad the audio is bad. But lucky to have this even so.

Call it what you want, these cats vocals were phenomenal. Never will forget the Mills Brothers.

Wonderful
Very interesting
I love their singing voices but they have sound of thunder for talking voices 😁
Any clips with their fourth brother?
Sure found as I watched it all 15:23

Harry was not always blind. Only as he got older and the ravages of diabetes did he lose his sight. That is also why he lost so much weight.
@@paulie4m Thanks guys for clearing this up. Dean Martin was a big fan of Harry Mills and once stated Harry gave Dean an idea of how he performed.
The Mills Brothers as a favorite of m Dad. I remember hearing there records when we were kids. Is a favorite memory of mine. Love them
Does anyone know when this was filmed?
The Copyright in the beginning says 1986, but Harry died in 1982, so I would say this footage is from probably 1980-1981.
