Mills Bros we’re my grandmothers fav group, used to download all their music on Napster for her near the end of her life.😢 Loved being able to bring some joy to her, she made it to 100, could barely See, and was hard of hearing, but was able to listen and enjoy the oldies!

Too often today, performers act like they're bestowing us an honor just by their presence. These entertainers truly gave of themselves, more and more again.

No wonder the Mills Brothers staid together for so many decades. They were the most relaxed group ever to appear on stage. And Nat King Cole also had a wonderfully easygoing presence. I miss that.

In the early 1960s, one of the carpenters who worked for my father told us that he had stopped to help some women who had a flat tire on the Merrit Parkway. Fuzzy refused to take money and headed home. A couple of days later. A new TV was delivered to his house with a note of appreciation from Mrs. Nat King Cole.

In the fall of 1957, Nat was presented on a "co-op" basis; that is, different regional advertisers placed commercials during the show (in New York, Rheingold beer not only sponsored Nat, he also appeared in at least one "integrated" commercial for them during the program). But the network wanted to *SELL* the time slot [Tuesdays, 7:30pm(et)] to a national sponsor- featuring someone who wasn't black. They offered him a "fringe" time period on Saturdays at 7pm; Carlos Gastel, Nat's agent, insisted he wouldn't accept that. NBC gave him a "take it or leave it" attitude; Nat "left it", because he was tired of fighting with them over the small production budget he was forced to stage his show with, and their not doing enough to "sell" him to a major sponsor. The following week's program was the last of the series.

Such a tragedy that the guitar playing brother died so young. Look up "How Ya' Doin?" The man kills on guitar.
