What I imagine the artists were thinking when they drew these is that they reimagined them in their own drawing style. I've done it before and not to make the character "more beautiful" just in my own unique art style.
Agreed. I have seen work from most of these artists before and it is just their style. Sakimichan is renown for her "beautiful" re imaginings of popular characters. That doesn't mean she did it on purpose, that's just her style. Also this video annoys me. None of the artists who made these reimagined images is credited in the description.
Throughout the whole video, I thought it was more of a youthful approach to the villains, not a beautiful approach that the artists were trying to portray.
It bugs me how the makeover for The Queen of Hearts looks nothing like the original. It's almost disgusting, in all honesty. No shame to the artist, their art is fine, it's just that the Queen should at least look like how she originally did, not more like the model that she based the re-make off of. And in all honesty, all the villains looked perfectly fine before their 'make-over', especially Dr. Facilier. If anything, he looked completely normal, as did all the other villains. I know I might sound butt-hurt over a simple video, but I just had to get my opinion out.

Not at all. Too often, a woman's worth is still seen as how she's perceived to look. To completely dismiss those who are older, or heavier, as not able to be beautiful is essentially the same as taking away all chance at worth. It's not always even so subtle.

I hate to shame artists, especially with how much work goes into art, but a lot of them removed the most unique features (sharp cheekbones, pointed or very strong chins, COOL SKIN COLOR) or pointedly aged them down (Yzma, Cruella) or just fucking straight out made them skinny (God forbid Ursula or the Queen of Hearts be shown as attractive and fat! There are plenty of beautiful/cute curvy/heavy women) and because of that they don't look like the actual character (Queen of Hearts is the worst offender imo). And who the hell said Dr Facilier was ugly? He looks fantastic. I realize this channel likes to showcase "what if" ideas with characters and the like, but this video seems very poorly planned out.
Clover Schilling I completely agree with you! A lot of the physical characteristics of these villains define who they are, and it just seems weird to me to change that. Take Yzma for example. Yzma is an old witch-like character, and making her look like some young model just looks wrong. Same with the Queen of Hearts! It's fine making her look younger or whatever, but it pisses me off when she turns into a pretty Ariel. She lost all of her defining characteristics, like how she is immature, spoiled, _obese_, and whatever Alice described her to be. She is not a deep character, and I don't see a reason for her to be a manipulative seductress. Maleficent lost her regal, dangerous look. With typical Disney villains, you're supposed to know the basis of a character just by looking at them. I might be whiny and annoying, but man, it really unsettles me.
I wasn't a fan either. Art work was beautiful, and I took it as the "re imagining" that it was meant to be. But it's like, they couldn't even bother to keep ursulas hair short. I totally agree! All this is saying is that you can't be beautiful without having the waistline of a pencil, eyelash and hair extensions (face it, most people can't get that long hair naturally, kudos to those who can), and that seductive = attractive. Let's free up the definition of beautiful.

Well Disney had to make the villains look completely different from their standard of beauty to really help you hate the villain. Because these days when the villain is smokin hot, most people can't help but like the villain especially if the villain has that bad boy/girl attitude. However, this doesn't automatically mean that all disney villains are ugly. I mean, some of them even look pretty good. I mean Maleficent looks fine and Ursula looks pretty nice if the color scheme wasn't too dark (Ursula sort of looks like your regular crazy aunt that is trying to stay "hip and fresh"). The villains follow a pattern, much like the princesses. They are often depicted as incredibly tall, skinny, or fat, and is often pretty old. There are only a few exceptions like Gaston. The recent Disney films are doing a great job though. Mother Gothel was a good villain, but she was still too similar to Disney's ridiculous standards like Rapunzel and Flynt. She wasn't ugly, but you can tell that Disney was definitely trying to make her look a bit hagard. However, she was still reasonably beautiful and they used a dark color scheme so that she stands out as the villain. Prince Hans changed it all. A good looking prince finally becomes the villain. Kudos to you Disney.

They don't, not all villains are ugly, Gothel from Tangled, the evil queen from Snow White and Gaston from Beauty and the Beast are all beautiful. Although they often use darker colors for villains but they do that so we will know they are evil from the beginning. Hans was a "secret" villain so he wore lighter colors.

For every overweight character that was reimagined, they were depicted as small and thin, because that is deemed "beautiful" in society's eyes. There are many ways to make an overweight character aesthetically pleasing and keeping them the size they are, instead of making them tiny.

If you were fat and smelly, you were obviously wealthy enough to afford good meals and you just didn't have to worry about hygiene because you were above that. That's probably why villians from the older movies looked slim and gray. Even in the nineties, some curves were preferred over slender figures. Everyone comes in different shapes and sizes, and nobody should be put down because of how they look. If the inside is beautiful, it makes the outside beautiful too.

It would be nice if they made a more beautiful villain. More realistic too. Evil doesn't equal ugly irl. While we're at it: a protagonist who isn't stunning would make for a great change. Pixar had some glorious moments in that respect.

But don't you think a person can be beautiful if they were older or more on the plus size? A lot of the characters personality and charisma comes from the small details in their design. You can tell about what kind of a character they are from simply looking at them. Some of this art just takes away the essence of the character. Many of these characters were already beautiful.

Not at all. Too often, a woman's worth is still seen as how she's perceived to look. To completely dismiss those who are older, or heavier, as not able to be beautiful is essentially the same as taking away all chance at worth. It's not always even so subtle.

I hate to shame artists, especially with how much work goes into art, but a lot of them removed the most unique features (sharp cheekbones, pointed or very strong chins, COOL SKIN COLOR) or pointedly aged them down (Yzma, Cruella) or just fucking straight out made them skinny (God forbid Ursula or the Queen of Hearts be shown as attractive and fat! There are plenty of beautiful/cute curvy/heavy women) and because of that they don't look like the actual character (Queen of Hearts is the worst offender imo). And who the hell said Dr Facilier was ugly? He looks fantastic. I realize this channel likes to showcase "what if" ideas with characters and the like, but this video seems very poorly planned out.
Clover Schilling I completely agree with you! A lot of the physical characteristics of these villains define who they are, and it just seems weird to me to change that. Take Yzma for example. Yzma is an old witch-like character, and making her look like some young model just looks wrong. Same with the Queen of Hearts! It's fine making her look younger or whatever, but it pisses me off when she turns into a pretty Ariel. She lost all of her defining characteristics, like how she is immature, spoiled, _obese_, and whatever Alice described her to be. She is not a deep character, and I don't see a reason for her to be a manipulative seductress. Maleficent lost her regal, dangerous look. With typical Disney villains, you're supposed to know the basis of a character just by looking at them. I might be whiny and annoying, but man, it really unsettles me.
I wasn't a fan either. Art work was beautiful, and I took it as the "re imagining" that it was meant to be. But it's like, they couldn't even bother to keep ursulas hair short. Why do they all need to be skinny with super long hair? I mean I guess if they kept the weight it wouldn't be the standard of beauty that the artist was aiming for. But they could have at least made her thick.
I totally agree! All this is saying is that you can't be beautiful without having the waistline of a pencil, eyelash and hair extensions (face it, most people can't get that long hair naturally, kudos to those who can), and that seductive = attractive. Let's free up the definition of beautiful.

Well Disney had to make the villains look completely different from their standard of beauty to really help you hate the villain. Because these days when the villain is smokin hot, most people can't help but like the villain especially if the villain has that bad boy/girl attitude.
However, this doesn't automatically mean that all disney villains are ugly. I mean, some of them even look pretty good. I mean Maleficent looks fine and Ursula looks pretty nice if the color scheme wasn't too dark (Ursula sort of looks like your regular crazy aunt that is trying to stay "hip and fresh").
The villains follow a pattern, much like the princesses. They are often depicted as incredibly tall, skinny, or fat, and is often pretty old. There are only a few exceptions like Gaston.
The recent Disney films are doing a great job though. Mother Gothel was a good villain, but she was still too similar to Disney's ridiculous standards like Rapunzel and Flynt. She wasn't ugly, but you can tell that Disney was definitely trying to make her look a bit hagard. However, she was still reasonably beautiful and they used a dark color scheme so that she stands out as the villain.
Prince Hans changed it all. A good looking prince finally becomes the villain. Kudos to you Disney.

For every overweight character that was reimagined, they were depicted as small and thin, because that is deemed "beautiful" in society's eyes. There are many ways to make an overweight character aesthetically pleasing and keeping them the size they are, instead of making them tiny.

If you were fat and smelly, you were obviously wealthy enough to afford good meals and you just didn't have to worry about hygiene because you were above that. That's probably why villians from the older movies looked slim and gray. Even in the nineties, some curves were preferred over slender figures. Everyone comes in different shapes and sizes, and nobody should be put down because of how they look. If the inside is beautiful, it makes the outside beautiful too.

I always thought Ursula was already pretty! Her makeup is always on point, great curves (top part, not including tentacles), super confident, when I see her I'm like yass bish!! yasss! Izma is hilarious and her being beautiful would take that away. The Queen of hearts looks nothing like herself after the transformation, that could be anyone, that could be Ariel for all I know. Maleficent also doesn't look anything like herself.

are from simply looking at them. Some of this
