It is better to connect your charger, using your laptop connected during personalization when it's the FIRST time that you turn on your xps. It is recommended by all pc experts😊

I Have just bought myself the Dell XPS 17'' 9720 (i9, 64GB & 4TB SSD £3,800) and also the Macbook Pro 16'' (i9, 64GB & 1TB £2,700) after my previous Alienware M18 which I used for everything & I'd had since 2014 started slowing down. I Thought I'd buy two different laptops, the Dell for all my photo and video editing as I'm a keen photographer and also make videos of my Ladies Football Team. The Apple to store all my music downloads in itunes as I have A LOT of music tracks and I mean a lot! I Dont really move the laptops around, they stay very much in the same place on a desk, I just take out which ever one I need to use, so I always use a mouse not the track pad. The screen on the Dell is massive and looks every bit as big as the Alienware 18'' screen. Very well made laptop, I havnt really got any complaints. Although the Macbook Pro is smaller the screen is still pretty big however I do wish they would of made a 17'' version. Both laptops perform very well but I have to say I do prefer using the Macbook Pro. Its seems more sturdy, everything seems solid on it. The Dell feels a bit fragile to me, like you wouldnt want to be moving it around too much. Also on start up from sleep mode it takes a good 10+ seconds to get to the password mode, the Apple its there as soon as you lift the lid. Not sure if its Windows 11 taking so long but it is a real pain sitting there waiting while it says 'Getting everything ready for you'. Never had that before, sleep mode always used to wake up instantly on my old Windows 8.1, seems like sleep mode is more like hibernation on the Dell. I Would highly recommend both laptops however the Apple is a much better 'all rounder' and if you're going to be moving around with it or even taking it from place to place I'd trust it more than the Dell. The Apple is also a better looking colour, not too keen on the Silver colour of the Dell.

That's a nice setup you've got, congrats! I wouldn't say that Dell is super fragile, my old xps13 lived through my uni years and is still in good shape and even survived a tiny spilled milk accident 😆

So I, too, am in search for a laptop to start an online business, which could use some photo/video editing, and I need a very portable laptop to be easy to go around with. I am still in between HP Spectre 360, Dell XPS 13 or 15, and Microsoft Surface 7 or 8, and I think you did an extensive research yourself too, so what's your take?

As for the laptop for editing, I'd be looking for something that has enough RAM and a separate GPU. And this is the reason why I went from my old XPS 13 to XPS 15

hi there, the fan doesn't run a lot and if it does it doesn't sound bad 😅 the battery lasts for about 8h on power-save mode and doing light office tasks, if I do some video editing or similar then it lasts about 3h, and just FYI I have the FHD+ touchscreen display so it eats up a bit more energy

The XPS 9520 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900HK 2.50 GHz 32 gb ram is Absolutely the worse computer I have ever owned and I have been using computers since the early 90's
After 3 months of use the screen started blinking like it was going to sleep. It start doing it once a day then went to every 5 min over time. I spent over 100 hours trying to resolve this issue with their help desk. Essentially 50% of the time I have had the computer I have not been able to work.
I have had 2 docking stations. 3 motherboards, onsite tech, OS reinstall, shipped to resolution center. Issue not resolved. Since it was over a month old they would not replace. So they shipped me a refurbished laptop. That lasted a week.
New(refurbished) XPS 9520 new problem. Desktop appearance will change every 5 to 10 reboots. Icon's too far apart on desktop.. Its like there should be another icon between them. Also the solid background color I choose will go to black. So I have started the process over. First up they want to reinstall the OS.
If you have purchased this computer you should extend your warranty immediately.
I have used multiple platforms in my 25 year career as a web developer and this is ABSOLUTELY hands down the worse product in terms of reliability that I have ever seen or heard of.
    Nice review, good luck

Hi Earl, I'm so sorry to hear you've been having so many issues 😔 I've been using mine now for 6 months, and it's working well, with no issues at all. Maybe it was a very unlucky shipment in your area, and most of the machines were somehow compromised 🤷🏻‍♀️ I will, however, consider extending the warranty 🤔
