  • I've put this beginner tutorial together for other Modelers new to Houdini and coming from more standard direct modeling software. I thought this might help show how Houdini Modeler has simplified the process of more direct modeling inside a procedural system.

Good intro - modeller really makes modelling in Houdini so much better : )
Houdini really draws you in. It has its frustrations, of course, but once you understand 'the Houdini way' it very hard to take any other way : )

Super solid video! Also if you hold A and middle mouse click edges, you can do a loop selection

Looking at your content. Nice to see you're a 3dcoat user as well. Anyway waiting for more content on both.

@regiszapp8758 Thanks for the comment, also yes I have used and purchased Soft Boolean. I don't use Booleans very often, but maybe I'll make a video of it after the project I'm working on wraps up. 👍

Yeah, no way in hell I'm touching Houdini lol Maya (and maybe 3ds Max and Blender) for the win

Hahhaa. That's cool. You have to be comfortable with the tools you use, so I respect that! I still love modeling in Maya too.

@@industrytuts5272 it's cuz Houdini looks like some alien tech lol too intimidating

I used to think so too. I just took the dive and started playing around with it, and then I realized I didn't have to go too deep into the software like Fx artists do, so even staying fairly high level, I found I could do so much more in it. But to be fair, it did take some getting used to. I'm having a blast with it now though.
