Hope your dad feels better quickly. Our brother-in-law was in the hospital’s intensive care unit unconscious for more than ten days though he’s improving now. The hospital staff took care of him while we took care of his wife. She’s exhausted and family has been flying in from all over the US to provide support. We took her out to eat healthy food (gardening benefit) and help support her mental and physical health. My garden grew some ugly weeds while I was gone, but I’ll get them soon. Supporting family is important and my ranunculus will bloom soon and inspire me. Glad to know you are taking time to take care of yourself.
Whenever i feel a bit blue, i go and hug a big strong tree - it always seems to calm me down and cheer me up. Recently, I have discovered something which has changed completely the way I experience the joy of flowers and leaves - I carry a magnifying glass with me in my pocket always, and when I visit a garden, I bend down and magnify the flower 10X - it is amazing and intense! You see flowers as incredibly intricate landing strips for bees! So seeing the flowers from a bee's eye view is amazing and a truly blissful experience - do try it sometime, Georgie - it will blow your lovely mind!

I have a chipped bark path which has become an orchid patch over time, as the bark has broken down. It wasn't designed or anticipated but is one of the best parts of my garden and much loved and treasured. Slow appreciation of a piece of land is such a joy. The purple flowering plant was actually ground ivy not bugle but also a beauty and great as a hayfever remedy x

My bird boxes hold lots of spiders , a possum and a lizard, - no birds yet lol ld love a Willy wagtail or blue wren in there that would be a surprise 😮! Just found out that dead nettle can be used dried as a tea, or even straight from the ground, also as a tea. Rinse off, pour hot water over the leaves and let steep. Add honey if you like. Used for allergies. Haven’t looked this up yet and you can buy dead nettle dried on line.

The slugs have had a rave up with my daffodils too, particularly my pheasants eye which I planted this year. 25 bulbs and I think I will be lucky to get 1 or 2 flowers. Some have been completely munched, leaves and flower stem, do you think they will survive for another year?
