16th notes have entered the room

Very true, but except for some super slow songs we wouldn’t normally strum a 16th note pattern. You’re totally right though, the next thing to learn about rhythm would be 16th notes

I love what you’ve done for newer players. Wonder wall is a 16th note pattern, as is What’s Up.
There are 65536 strumming patter when looking at it from a 16th note perspective.

I never understand music theory as a guitar player and always avoided it. But you interpreting my guitar knowledge/jargon into musical terms is very enlightening! Please do more of this!

Once I stopped trying to learn the exact strumming pattern for every song and just focusing on a set of patterns that have a “feel” I started progressing much faster. Good video.

wow. not only are you great at teaching but also an amazing marketer. The way you got to 256 was ingenious. I am past this point in my musical journey, but, like my teacher said, "you are never too good to go back to the basics". Great stuff man; also you cinematography is fantastic. Keep on keeping on and you will be one of the great music youtubers. Up there with beato, ammie, bennett, samurai guitarist

I dont usually comment on videos but you really demistified sonwell how strum patterns originate and how to go about creating your own...and you did this in the smallest fraction of time compared to all the other videos out there who just can't seem to piece it alltogether so well, thank you for saving me so much time :), subscribed

Hey! Greatly appreciate this video! Always struggled with understanding how to fit rhythm guitar on a time signature properly. Like where does everything go to make it pulsate, does this particular D play on 1 or an AND or on "+" etc etc. Even went to get some drumming lessons hoping it would help me understand it. Can you make some more videos on this topic?

Good video and it clarifies a lot. BUT what about a song like "Third Rate Romance" by the Amazing Rhythm Aces?
It has chucks and palm mutes ETC. Can you show us how to figure that out?

Some good information, but, as an experienced player and teacher, I have some problems with this approach. First, I’d say that an 8th note strum (1&2&3&4&) is probably more commonly played by experienced players as all down strokes. Second, what about 16th notes?

Nit: there are not 256 patterns ”between” D D D D and DUDUDUDU. It would be if you counted from silent strumming to full up-down strumming.😉
