  • I went to Rum before the midge and tick awoke. I was blessed with gorgeous weather.
I found a camp spot on Barkeval which I think is rare. Enjoyed some scrambles on it’s south ribs.
Next day I did a traverse from bealach an oir up Askival then back along the ridge to Sgurr nan Gillean.
The following day I descended coire Atlantic and walked out Glen Harris to….. Harris and it’s rugged coast and old shieldings, before trudging along the track to Kilmory bay for a beautiful sunset.
Finally I went back to Kinloch and ate myself silly and did some bird watching before catching the ferry next morning.
What a place! I’d like to go back and use the bothies next time, can’t believe one island holds so much!

Looks fantastic! Its been on my list for some time. Do you think I could take my Labrador dogs with me to traverse the main ridge. It says that the technical climbing/scrambling sections are avoidable but still not sure.. Thanks for sharing.

If you’re going from Kinloch towards Dibdil I think the hardest bit is the north ridge to Askival. The easier route skirts left of the ridge. It is grade one scrambling over steep grass and rocky steps, there is a faint path but it comes and goes and looks like several routes are possible. If your dog has done other scrambles before and is sure footed you should manage. Everything else can just be a walk. Just realised I’ve watched your Bidean nam Bian video before! Great story telling and a fun watch 👍😁
