  • Rum is one of the Small Isles of the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland.
    The island is designated as a National Nature Reserve.
    Rum Cuillin are steep rocky mountains rising high up straight from the sea. The route over five major summits is a physically demanding scramble with almost 2000 meters of ascent.
    To do this with my dogs was a very special but hard challenge I have never tried before. There is much more responsibility than if you go on your own and mainly route finding becomes crucial aspect with dogs..
    Unforgettable scrambling adventure with Sofie and Tilly filmed on beautiful Island of Rum in Scotland in July 2023.

    Don't normally comment - but what a fantastic film. If anyone ever in doubt than dogs are our best friends. They were just brilliant and you cared so much for them

      Thanks for that. Dogs have very short life compare to us humans. And it's up to us how they live it. All of these trips with them are pretty special to me and will remember them forever.

    Enjoyed this mate, what an adventure. Feared for the dogs on some of the scrambles but you looked after them.
    I did the traverse back in 2014 and loved every bit of it. Came down the wrong line on Trollival and had to scramble down greasy wet terraces. Was bricking it.

      Thanks Robin. for me.. it was one of those days I was in some kind of happy trance.. if you see what I mean. If I didn't have the pictures I would say I changed into a dog for that day and we did as a pack of three:-] Can't say I loved every bit of it though.. but the feeling after in the bothy was... amazing.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this Jonas, what an adventure! I would love to try the ridge but at 11 years old I think it would be too much for my Meg and I would leave her at home. ATB, Ian

    • @jonashubalekwhiskyandthewild
      @jonashubalekwhiskyandthewild  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you Ian. Yes 11 years of age for dog sounds like too much for Rum Cuillin traverse but you must know best what she can do. You can actually escape down to Dibidil bay for the bothy after you hike/scramble ''only'' first two hills [Hallival and Askival] if that helps or alternatively you could do just low level walk to the bothy from Kinloch. That is the path I used for going back from bothy. I hate leaving dogs at home but understand it will get hard later when they get old. ATB Jonas.

    Fantastic, takes me back to 2010 when my pal and I stayed there for 3 days and climbed every top, some of them twice! Because they’re not Munro’s they don’t see the same amount of foot traffic and are all the better for it and let’s be honest, they can hold their own against all but the best Munro’s.

    • @jonashubalekwhiskyandthewild
      @jonashubalekwhiskyandthewild  Год назад

      Thanks. I agree, Rum Cuillin are steep and more difficult to ascend than many munros where the terrain is less steep and with a path up on summits. Cheers.

My mate and I had planned to do the same journey a couple of years ago but the weather window was rubbish and spent the night at Kinbreak at the end of Loch Arkaig.
