Don't expect miracles to happen unless the change is initiated by the people. What I have also observed is that most sections of the society are also corrupt to a lesser or higher degree.
Excellent conversation - pkease keep going with similar topics enhancibg our knowkedge in economy

Very informative discussion and good insight for the future
Thanks for the clear explanation 😊
Worth to watch ❤ valuable facts!
Very good interview, thanks
You should have Talal Rafi on your show. Another very insightful person whose work the IMF publishes.
Lovely to see a bright young lady take on public finance journalism. Minor point: Was India is crisis in '91 or did it open its economy then? The kind of domestic economic planning that had been in place well ahead prior to opening the economy in the 90s instead of the 70s meant that India chartered a pathway by protecting and developing local industries that had a serious competitive edge in the world market. Unlike us with our agri goods with colonial market dependence. Economics is a behavioural science - and people's attitudes matter and corruption is systemic in Sri Lanka. We have an integrity problem in all of us not just a debt crisis.
Great conversation
And very simple explanation
To understand

Allowing imports required for value adding exports is fine but allowing all kinds of imports (just like kites, vegetables etc.) will not be good for the country. After 1977, when liberalising imports, they allowed Royal Doulton bathroom suites when the country didn't have any measures to increase our exports. It's such actions which destroyed the country.
grate conversation. but need to get more time to over come the speediness.
Surangana Kirilliye….?

Alanki you are my crush..😍
Practically it is difficult to agree with what is happening.. people must get together to change what is going on... there may be high level talks.. but in actuality people are leading a hard life without any exception of the future.... all these old thuggers who are in power must be sent to jail...
Now time for you to upgrade.
Reforming state-owned enterprises should be the prime target of any new government.
He is smart and giving his independent opinion infront of Alankis failed attempts to give all the credits to rw and undermine peoples aspirations towards a new strategic and people oriented movement
"They deserve better than this" is one of the most toxic false information in this world. Nobody deserves better than anything. Everybody has to gain and build what they want. Everybody has averagely equal opportunities. So they are þhe one should work hard and smart. Toxic media personalities are a huge threat to everyone
